"One thing." Albert piped in. "Depending on where we decide to drop in, which I am guessing will be somewhere deep in Naziland, we have to consider the fact that there are also allied groups operating there as well, what we might call the predecessor to our modern Black Ops missions. That being said, we will need a damned good cover story for each and everyone of us. Secondly, Sam." He turned his head in her direction. "We're all going to need civilian clothing, any of us being dressed to the nines in military rig of the day are going to be shot on site; we need to blend in, not stand out like the proverbial dog's anatomy."

Taking his gaze away from Carter, Al focused on the Admiral and Jack. "Shouldn't be too hard to create some fake ID's, we can research the era using names and backgrounds that can stand up to the most rigorous scrutiny. Mike you might want to help me with that maybe?" Of course anyone in this room could pull out a link to their own ancestries to use as a cover, that should of course be the natural way to go.

<Briefing Room>

The sound of a slight disturbance was heard just outside the upper floor entry to the briefing room, the sound of a debate between the SF's guarding the room and a woman, another Australian by the accent and tone of her voice. Apparently the SF's lost the argument when a minute later a small delicate woman appeared. "I'm so sorry I'm late..." Stopping dead she saw the brass before anything else came to mind. "Sirs, Ma'am's." She snapped to attention at the gathering of eagles and stars. "Traffic was a nightmare, I came as quickly as I could though." One could see a little anger on her face and it wasn't from the SF's entanglement, they were Teddy bears. Bobbie had been booked not a kilometer from the SGC gate for doing 10 mph over the speed limit. "I imagine I've missed most everything?" She looked around for a chair, spotting one next to Astrid, near Brian. Two of the few she actually knew reasonably well, apart from the aforementioned brass and Cate. "Scuse Astrid." She squeezed in then plumped down. "G'day Brian." She whispered. In the six months since she had last been around the SGC in any long term way, Bobbie had grown her hair out, no longer the short collar length bob, she was now sporting long tresses with colored highlights, so far since getting to the briefing room no one had recognized her, hence the debate with the SF's, she had yet to change her ID photo.

There was another guy there who also went by the name of Bryan, spelt differently of course. Bryan Walker of SG-9. The two had met several times when his team was passing through the Alpha Site. "Fancy seeing you here without Bonnie, does she know you're playing hooky?" She grinned a full set of extremely expensive pearly whites.

With a not so subtle hint of a smile, Mike quietly, to not interfere with the briefing, replied to Reynolds, “Trust me, they tried!” and then focused back on the conversations back and forth across the table in an attempt to get a grip of the situation.

Crap, he wished he’d listened more carefully at grandpa’s stories from his youth in eastern Poland, their trek across Europe, finally ending up in Paris about the same time as the war ended…
“Yes, of course, Colonel, I’m with you. I’m way better at looking up information than scrunching numbers. Specially the ones related to abstract things like physics. I’ll go get my lap top. See you in ten in the mess hall? Shouldn’t be a problem to find a private corner there at this time of the day.”

Bryan wrinkled his nose.  He knew Bobbie a little bit but not real well.  She was right though, he didn't usually go places without Bonnie.  "Well, not exactly.  Got the message quickly and reacted," he answered.

Jon hung back, listened to the exchanges, heard his assignment.

"Sir, ma'am, just let me know where to go and who to teach. What foreign language skills do we have between us?"

Then he shuffled closer to Colonel Reynolds. "My old man served in the European Theater. Army. 45th Infantry. Thunderbird Division. Machine gunner. Marched up Sicily, all the way to Dachau. Was one of the first boots on the ground there. I take after him enough, listened to his stories enough that I can probably talk my way through places all right."

"Tell me about it Flight Lieutenant." Sam almost snorted that out. Even with an Air Force driver and the reasonably short distance from her home the traffic was insane, more so when you considered the time of night it was. "Glad you made it though." She pushed back a little from the table getting ready to stand.

"Alright people, lets get this done. We all have our tasks to do and we need to get it done swiftly. Lieutenant Nealson, stick with Colonel Reynolds for the time being, your skills will be important to dream up and or find some credible identities for everyone until we need those lessons. Cate you're with me. Captain Jaworski I have a special task for you and your knowledge, we some hard data on the medical aspect of the era, possible things we may need to vaccinate our people from." There was so much to take care of, it was almost overwhelming. Sam scrolled through her own laptop, she was checking personnel files. "Flight Lieutenant Hatfield, you're a native German speaker, I'll need you to check on anyone else who has a smattering or relative skill in the language for accent, that could throw a spanner in the works if someone is speaking the tongue with a mid western drawl." Albert had made some good valuable points, she needed to address those. "Thank you Colonel Reynolds, point taken. Walker, I'd like you and Specialist Lofquist to get into the Pentagon archives, it'll be under the key word #pent@WW2 on our data base, see what you can find relating to allied covert operations behind the lines between June and August 1944." What else was there?  "Lieutenant Troy, since as Colonel Reynolds has nicely educated us on, going to Denver will be a waste of time now. So I'd like for you to jump on a computer and go mad searching men and women's fashions of the day, especially those of Germany and the nearby countries." That had to be it.

"Yes Colonel, oh by the way I do speak German fairly well myself, as well as Goa'uld. But as you said, Hatfield here might need to check on me, I don't think there would have been too many Aussies in Europe speaking the language at the time."

Cate stared at Jon for a moment, then smiled. "Suits me to. Far easier to get about in a war zone." Plenty of experience there.

"I'm good for that Colonel Carter. In the meantime I'll catch up on the details reading the recorded transcripts." Every briefing had those, it was automatic.

"Good, save me some trouble Hatfield." Sam caught Jack and Ian's attention. "I think we've done all we can here now haven't we?"

Ian stood up, as did Jack.

"Okay, instead of comparing how much we all know, let's go..." Jack said, dragging out the last syllable, a sign that he was starting to get impatient.

"Colonel, while that is true, you're going to be shot either way. Don't forget what happened to those who were military but showed up in civilian gear or the Commando Directive. Hopefully something in the archives gives us a clue, because this plan is more than a little too fast and loose for my liking." Ian said.

"Ian?" Jack gave the Admiral a look that insisted they get things going, and perhaps also questioned why he just did what Jack said to stop doing. McRaven clapped his hands together.

"Alright, you have your assignments. If you don't, pick someone you can assist. You know your skill sets well enough to know where you'll fit in best." Ian said, gesturing to the door. He then picked up the phone and hit Cheryl's number, before relaying to her the request for the personnel files for Colonel Reynolds to be brought up to the conference room, before then requesting that the Odyssey stand by for beam-ups.

With that, Brian and Astrid stood up as well.

"I suppose I had better find out if there is any halfway decent coffee on my way to the Archives room. It's going to be a long day." Astrid commented with a sideways grin to Brian.

"Hey, it was just around 0900 when we left, so we've at least got a head start. As for the coffee, you're probably going to have to endure whatever they've got here." Brian replied with a chuckle.

"I don't know what's the greater of the two evils; whatever instant stuff the military has or someone bringing in Starbucks. I should have asked the Commandant for a thermos if I had known..." Astrid said as she picked up her rucksack.

"Yeah, my vote is to avoid Starbucks. I'll drink the instant junk in an MRE before I deal with those yuppies and their bitter stuff...oh no." Astrid looked at Brian with a quizzical look. Brian looked at her, melodramatically seeming like he had just realized something terrible, but the sideways grin still said he was joking.

"Oh no, it's happening. You and Denis are turning me into a coffee snob." That got Astrid to laugh as she made her way out of the briefing room and to the Archives.

Mike got up from his chair as well and let his eyes sweep over the people starting to split up before answering Colonel Carter. “From what I gather, most of us in here have done at least one tour abroad, meaning we’re most likely up to date with the standard vaccinations program, including measles. I’ll need to dig in to our medical files to be sure though, but that will only take a few minutes. The only thing I can come to think about that most of us *are in fact missing and that could be a potential danger, although it’s very farfetched, is smallpox. Was that what you had in mind?”
With half an ear he registered the conversation about coffee between Astrid and her team mate, but they were too far away for him to point out that if they were nice to him, he might just maybe, share a bit of the stash he kept in his office.
Then again, knowing her cravings for a good cup of coffee, might come in handy at some point later on. It takes an addict to know an addict...

Lofquist? Bryan didn't really know her,  but he wouldn't argue.  Research, ugh! He was more of a hands on guy.  Hence why he worked on cars and raced.   "Of course ma'am," he said with a nod.

He turned to follow Astrid and Brian. "Everyone likes a good cup of coffee," he commented.

"Fully aware of that Admiral. My point being we're unknowns as far as the people are concerned back then, we might as well consider ourselves as alien as old Tefnut is to them. Unless we're going to wear German uniforms, our case is shot from the start. Although that will depend on where each of us, or teams of us end up being located." Made too much sense to him.

Since he was staying put right where he was, Albert stood merely out of respect. "Mike, you do know 'she' is going to murder you when she finds out don't you?" They all knew who 'she' was. "Nevertheless, good luck to everyone we've got seventy odd years of history to work on in a few short hours, so yes a lot of coffee will be consumed. Lieutenant Nealson you're with me for the duration of this duty it appears, we'd better get cracking." There were laptops available in the briefing room somewhere wasn't there?

Taer listened to the people in the briefing room. He was silent for the most of the duration. Taking a mental note that he would be in civilian clothes like the rest, he grunted. It seemed sound for him. Looking across the table, he noted that Daniel was quiet like him. The meeting was close to finish.

Daniel cleared his throat and looked up across the table. They were finishing up. He had some questions, but felt that he would ask them at a later time. He was glad Sam was here in the briefing as well as Jack. They were both good friends.

Realizing that he was just a resident Archeologist hitching a ride, he approached Sam and spoke offering his assistance, "Sam? I could help Reynolds with the false ID's. Also, the dialect from that era is a bit different, so I could help with that as well to make sure we are on the right track."

As the team's linguist, this was his chance to shine...

"Smallpox is one Mike, there may be others we're not aware of. Just make sure we don't miss anything, it'd be a disaster if you all made it through in one piece only to bring back some disease that has been nuked in our time." Sam was ready to head for the lab, she half turned then stopped. "Yes Daniel, that would be ideal." There was one thing though remaining. "Oh and Jack, you're not getting out of this either, we'll need a safe LZ where we can hide the 401; somewhere that with hope hasn't seen a human footprint too much both then and now. Dismissed everyone." She stepped away from the table, hopefully everything was spoken of that could be.

"I know, I know." Jack said in response to Sam, putting up his hands slightly. "I'll hang out here with Reynolds and look over the maps, then."

"Alright, who is going to go up with me to the Odyssey? We can kill a couple hours like Captain Coffin said at least figuring out what we need before we start the surplus store shopping spree." Ian said, moving over to a corner of the room. Brian made his way over to join the Admiral, trying to suppress a feeling of slight intimidation being put on this task with a flag officer.

"Tell Computer Thor I said 'hi'." Jack commented.

Jon nodded at Reynolds and went poking around, scared up a couple of laptops, handed one to him. Then he went and started another pot of coffee, because they'd need it. He booted up his laptop, signed in, and set to work.

It would be easy for him to pull up his father's service record and see where he was stationed when, cross-reference who might know him and recognize him should they run into other Divisions who'd crossed paths with Thunderbird.

He'd created some of his own aliases back in the day, when he was doing black ops, and the rhythm was familiar. The devil was in the details - how were social security numbers structured back then? What about driver's license numbers? One way to avoid getting tripped up in an interrogation was to use as much truth as possible.

He started to pull up the SRBs of everyone else who was slated to go. Whose hometowns hadn't existed back then? What details could they provide about a hometown that would be accurate to the time period so they didn't get busted as Nazi spies?

If he got himself built first, that was one less thing to worry about - and an easier thing to build.

He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, called up his earliest memories.

Yeah, he could build this.

With the room mostly cleared that left only himself, Jack, Mike, Daniel and the new boy. Now there in and of itself was a puzzle, with everyone else and their dog gone Albert was able to focus a little more on details. One of those was the fact that in the last six months, starting from the very day 'Nealson' was recruited into SG9, Al was fervently scratching his brain as to where he had run into the young fella previously. It all came to a head when one of those idle memories came back to him way back over eight years ago when Jack senior went missing. It did get resolved over a few anxious days, but he never thought in his wildest dreams he'd see young Jack clone back at the SGC.

Of course no one else in the team was in the loop, so it fell to Al that he was sworn to secrecy on the pain of death (Jack's words). It had been difficult to keep it from the other three, yet he had been doing just that right up to now. "It must be hard for you two to keep a straight face when you're in the same room"He whispered to them looking up from his now opened laptop. "I'm grateful that Sam found a way though to get Walker out of the room, I don't know that I could have contained myself that long had he stayed with us." He bent to his task then, it was going to be a long morning starting from now.

After that he took the opportunity to address the others. "Mike, no need to go wandering off, you can do that here just as easily. I think you're correct as far as things we need to watch out for medically, smallpox was still quite common in parts of Europe at the time." His eyes were going to and fro now across his screen, his own identity was starting to formulate in his mind by the time he got to the end of the first page. "Doctor Jackson I see here on my files there was a Ian Jackson listed as missing right about the time we're talking about, a civilian US citizen who somehow was supposed to be in neutral Sweden doing research on European languages, there was no trace of him ever found. Might be something you can work on perhaps." The name Andrew Barker was yelling at him now, a US OSS operator who somehow never turned up in London when he was supposed to, Albert though he could work on that a little.
