Title: Stargate Command- Level 16-17 Command Bunker + Stockade - Storage
Post by: Mim on May 21, 2013, 01:01:06 PM
Level 16 includes the secondary command bunker and security station as well as a monitoring station that can keep tabs on the entire facility and operate the SGC in the event of an emergency. Located in the heart of the SGC, the secondary command bunker includes a small control room with video cameras and communications equipment linked to all essential SGC functions. This command bunker can also communicate with the outside world in the event of a major catastrophe blocking standard communication channels. It is used to monitor the covert training exercises the SGC personnel run in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force Academy. This robust training program is helping to prepare newly qualified officers and enlisted personnel for membership of SG teams.

The SGC's main stockade is also located on Level 16, equipped with a number of small holding cells. These vary from a utilitarian room equipped with a bed, toilet and washing facilities, work station and monitoring camera to isolation cells with no appreciable amenities. Anyone considered a threat to base security is remanded to the stockade until they can be transferred to a more secure location. All security stations are manned by two armed guards twenty-four hours a day.

This level also contains a number of small yet functional accommodations and a small mess hall for emergency purposes

*****************

This level is currently undeveloped, set aside for future use. As necessary, Level 17 may be used as a storage facility, makeshift triage centre or indoor firing range. When the Asgard Thor brokered a treaty between Earth and the Goa'uld System Lords, represented by Cronus, Nirrti and Lord Yu, portions of this level were converted into a meeting room for the delicate negotiations.

Coming off the elevator or lift as some of her friends call it back where they come from Spook moves to stand against a back wall in the far corner like the last time the Big brass had made a scheduled visit here to the SGC. shifting about some she plants her feet in the stance for parade rest formation hands glasped behind her back head high chin stuck out a little and she stays put not saying a word to anyone who comes in or onto the level.

<Level 17 Conference room>

{Staff Sergeant Rebecca Mickleson} NPC

The entire sub section of level 17 had its dividing walls moved away. In their place, chair were arranged in rows twelve of them. At the front a dais sat with the Presidential Emblem on it and not only the US flag standing proudly behind, but those of every nation that served with Stargate Command. Rebecca was seeing to last minute details, she had already dismissed the civilian aides and just as she was about to leave Spook came in. She had met her once or twice before, two girls of a similar nature and background. Although where Ange was from the Hispanic ghettos of LA, Rebecca was from the poor Jewish quarter of the same city. They had that in common at least. "¿Oye allí Angelina, cómo es usted? ¿No le ha visto un rato?" She said in awkward Spanish.

Hearing a familiar voice Spook looks over with just her eyes moving and cracks a smile responding Becs Hi. ¿Cómo estás? Ha pasado un tiempo no lo tiene? Ya sabes que me mantiene ocupado ayudando a salvar traseros de todos. Me alegra ver que su todavía aquí. Staying put Spook looks around the room taking it all in. Then moving her eyes back to looking at Rebecca responds ¿Cómo está su familia de todos modos? Los nuevos miembros de la familia o de los individuos en su vida tal vez?

Donavan entered behind the young female escort, though his blank expression let both women present know he had no idea what the strange noises they were making at each other meant, though he grasped it was a language.  He'd heard it before, but never grasped the nuance, nor the reason why anyone would need more than one way to talk to another.

He moved wordlessly away from the escort while she was distracted with her apparent greeting and response, like a ghost, and settled into a corner where he was sure the standard guard would assemble, and not where the current enlisted would be expected to stand.  To his knowledge, he was in what they called 'limbo', neither enlisted, nor wholly civilian.  His guest pass was clearly clipped to the front pocket flap of his unmarked and unremarkable black BDU's and he assumed an upright if apparently relaxed at ease posture.

"Tenhut!" Cheryl called as she moved into the room, around the same time Donovan quietly moved somewhat away from her. She could understand his position, but she was damn sure he was not going to feel alien among her people. As temporary Security Officer, she also carried the weight of the Admirals words as if it came from his own lips, despite Spook being senior. "Staff officer present. And will you girls shut with the Espanol' already, show some respect!" She wasn't as meek as people made her out to be. Cheryl looked over the arrangement of chairs, there were names taped onto the back of each. Those receiving commendations were in the front two rows (there was a 6 foot space down the middle); then senior officers behind those. Lieutenant Colonel Lee's chair was next to the aisle, second row left. "There is your seat Colonel and I must apologise for our crew, they do get a little carried away at times."

{Staff Sergeant Rebecca Mickleson} NPC

Rebecca's face went scarlet as came to attention. "Begging my pardon sir." She tapped Ange on the arm and indicated Spook's chair, front row; right fifth chair along. "Catch ya later Spook." She whispered and slowly walked up the aisle looking for her own seat, it was way up back about six rows back. The cheap seats as her friends used to say, going to the movies.

Snapping to attention Spook gasps her arms to her side head high chin out nodding responding "Sorry Lieutenant Brownwell." Once given permission to move Spook moves along the wall to the area used as the front of the room and moves to her seat carefully removing the taped piece of paper from the chair sitting down as straight as is possible looking straight ahead.  Waiting silently for whatever is coming.

''Stop it please you to speak the most of your Spanish language, and so I try to understand English, and I've already a lot of time to learn it. '' Bella spoke little unpretentious. But it would be been seen that she was nervous about something. ''Sorry I'm late. But you know, when a person needs to do something, and that I really needed to do something. Nothing serious but not to share it with you again. So if you must, you must.'' Bella grimaced but a little smile.

With their arms looped together like old shipmates ( and no they weren't rolling, nor drunk) Carrie and Kim came off the elevator laughing. It would appear they were sharing a joke about something, most likely concerning the male species. "...and it was 'this' big!" Kim could be heard saying as they came up the passageway towards the conference room.

Not far behind them from another elevator down the passage way Maria and Ruby came out in a rush. That was typical of both women and Kim and Carrie's laughter attracted them like a magnet. "Come on girls share the joke with your buddies." Maria said grinning.

SSgt Gary Carter

Gary walked along the floor. playing around with the red sash he had to wear. it made the uncomfterable uniform just that little bit more uncomfterable. He walked over to  Lieutenant Brownwell as he pulled a packet of cigarettes out of his pocket. A habit he had started after spending months at a time away from his wife and two daughters. he leaned over to the Lt and asked.
"Excuse me, ma'am, is it possible to smoke on this level?" he asked. as he held one of the fags in his mouth as he pulled a lighter out. Knowing one of the many other assembled officers would probably have a go at him for not saluting or even daring to ask if he could smoke with the President of the US of A on the way.

Winced visibly at the 'tenhut', having hoped he'd live through this out of any spotlight.  He still wasn't used to being back indoors, let alone surrounded by people he didn't know.  He was also starting to get a little flustered at all the apparent reservations with his name on them, and now a seat at the officer's table?  He didn't even know his active duty status, let alone why he'd have a place at that table.

Flushing with both consternation and a touch of frustration and embarrassment, he pushed away from the wall, and by the time he got to the seat his escort had pointed out, his own perception noticed just out out numbered he was, gender wise.  That made him even more wary, and he sat with an apologetic expression to the other woman who'd taken her seat, trying to appear casual, and like he belonged, and failing miserably at both.

To try and calm himself, he hummed under his breath, the fingers of his left hand moving oddly, mentally pressing down on guitar strings and frets, his right hand tapping out a simple four/four time, lips pressed together to keep himself from doing more than humming the tune he mentally played out.

It would seem that Cheryl was left to organise things. Trust Colonel Donovan to take the best part and welcome the President with the Admiral. But she would do it well and make sure all was in its place for the event. She cast a knowing look at Ruby, not giving away what she knew. When her friend Bella entered she smiled, at least she had one more to help her if needed.

"It's okay Bella, you're not late at all, we still have ten minutes. Just take your seat..." She scanned the backs of the chairs, Bella was right next to Angelina. "...over there next to Captain Darkness." It was at that point Sergeant Carter asked about having a cigarette and her face went red. Damn, what do these British do on their bases. She calmed herself and held her fists tightly at her sides. "In a word Carter. No. You know as well as I do, the only smoking zone on the whole base is up on ground level near the car park and I seriously doubt you want to go now." She paused for a breath. "Now find your seat please, over there, third row left."

Poor Colonel Lee looked embarrassed and she could understand why as well. When she first arrived from the Pentagon, no one even thought a mere accounts officer would have what it took to serve with the SGC. She did prove them wrong, many times over. She gave him a friendly smile, indicating to him he was among friends.

In the middle of getting things organised, Cheryl was only slightly flustered when the Admiral called her. To be looking the best, she was using the older curly cord type of earpiece for her coms, neatly hidden under her short bob of auburn hair, the transmitter a small bump under her jacket at the back. She thought of all those dark suited, sunglass wearing agents that followed the President around everywhere as she spoke into her cuff. "I'm in the conference room on seventeen sir. Can I help you?" She wasn't the best with radio protocol.

Captain Robert Hughes

<<From Level 13, Quarters>>

For just a moment, back in his quarters, he'd caught himself looking at a photo of Catherine, taken during happier times, when... the air conditioning had kicked on? But there'd been the smell of perfume she wore that he liked so much. He'd shaken it off - he hadn't been sleeping well, after all - and reported to level seventeen, albeit deep in thought.

There was already quite the gathering when he got there, as officers and enlisted continued to file in - and a few were faces he recognized, including Maria who was laughing and joking with a small group of her friends. He nodded in her direction, but otherwise let her be.

Then there was the SGC's temporary head of security. He began to approach the lieutenant; he could speak with her to put in his request and expedite the process - he hoped beforehand, but he'd settle for after. He heard her speak into her earpiece, and he remained at a respectful distance, near another man in black BDUs. A civilian?

His dark blue eyes kept moving, never letting him fix on any one point or person, the slow evenly paced 4/4 time he kept with the first two fingers of his right hand against the table's edge, the fingers of his left constantly moving in chord positions as if along the neck of a guitar, his head faintly bobbing to the tune only heard in his head.  When the gender offset in the room started to balance, he started to feel a little less cornered animal, and started to relax.  He was too far away from anyone to hear much more than the din of low conversation, but he looked like he was paying attention none the less.

When the guitar pantomime failed to completely settle him, he reached into one of the front breast pockets of the BDU's and produced what looked like a very used Royal deck, tapping out the somewhat frayed, bent and faded cards into one hand, he deftly began cutting, flipping and resetting, keeping his hands busy, by alternating left, then right, then back again.  He was one of the rare people, at least that he knew of, where both hands could operate independently.  Not just ambidextrous, but autonomous.  He could write a completely different sentence with either hand, or draw with one and do dot puzzles with the other.  With his release from the holding cells, and subsequent tests performed after, this talent had been discovered and put to use.

Now, though, it was something of just a cheep parlor trick, slipping cards here and there from hand to hand as he waited and watched.

SSgt Gary Carter

Gary Frowned a little after being told he couldn't smoke. It wasn't because he couldn't, it was because this was the first time he had ever worn his dress uniform with out his family somewhere watching him. Gary then stepped away mumbling "I'm not even getting award, why the hell do I have to be here." He just wished normal SGC operations would start again, At the very least so he could be attached to other SG teams and go do something worth while, or even better be put on an SG team full time. then he could busy himself with everything in his path and ' not have time ' to attend these.

"Really, my god that is so...." Kim began when she realised Maria and Ruby where standing there with a questioning look. She thought she could spice it up even further but decided against it, given the mixed company. Plus there was the fact that the President and his entourage could walk through that door any minute; given his penchant for surprises. "...um..well, actually Ria we were talking about fishing, with our fathers." She said with a sloppy grin.

"Uh, huh. And I suppose I'm to believe that from you Kim?" Maria answered with an equally stupid grin.

"Yeah... we were honestly." This was becoming a tricky situation rather rapidly. But when all was about to explode on Kim's face; Ruby came to the rescue.

"Ah believe it... trooly ah do Kim, Carrie. Ah've seen them photos Kim has in her office with her dear old Dad. God... how big was that fish?" She had to grin. It was true, there was a photo of Kim with her old man on the banks of the Mississippi and a very young Kim was holding what she believed was a Pike, a very big Pike.

Kim giggled a little, most inappropriately for a woman of her age. "Twenty five pounds Ruby... it took me two hours and I was only fifteen." She was walking and talking at the same time. Before she knew it, Kim had led them right into the conference room. They were in time.

"You're kidding? You and Carrie here are into fishing? Damn me if that is just so funny. I'm trying to imagine it." Maria added. "We best take our seats I guess." Maria looked around to see if she could find her own tag. Front right a few chairs to the side. Kim's was in the second row, right next to a hunky looking guy in BDU's and Ruby's was first chair, front row left. Carrie's was right next to Maria's. There would be a few empty ones today. Mike's was on the other side of Maria's.

Calleigh is getting adjusted some. She looks around the room with her pad in hand . She stands by Sergeant Rebecca Mickleson by her chair where she is seated and she stands tall. She eyes Cheryl and asks: "Um may I ask where my seat is?" Calleigh is a very quiet and meek woman at times. But when pushed? She can be rather sharp. She is a bit nervous but holds her ground . She is a strong woman. One that can hold herself well. Calleigh is a woman with a strong will. But she is one that can work quickly on her feet. She also takes orders well. She stands tall in the Ceremony and looks proud and strong. She is waiting politely to find out what her orders are. Calleigh, looking sharp in her uniform, does her best to please her fellow officers around her. She waits for her orders to be given and where to sit and what to do.

"Meh."

George was the last to walk in and saw Fred wasn't there yet and muttered "Jesus F$%£ing Christ Rivers." As he walked over and took a seat one away from Charlotte so there was space for Fred to sit in rank order.
He didn't know if he should make space for the other British personnel, like Major Tiff O'Neill or Captain Evans or not, because they didn't have much to do with the rest of the British Contingent.

Satisfied that Gary was in his place, Cheryl with her arms crossed beneath her chest nodded as a job done. Next was Cal, she was a little ditzy sometimes but a smart and intelligent woman. SG-8 filed in behind Staff Sergeant Cooper, with Harley bringing up the rear. One might say she looked like a mother hen, if not for the dangerous, well trained look of her team in front of her. After the professional profession, the slightly disgraced officer almost looked out of place. Fortunately for her, the Marine Dress Uniform was enough to cover up almost any indiscretion, and the eight of them in procession together almost looked like a miniature parade.

None of them spoke, having practiced drill and ceremony of and on as a team building exercise. Cooper led them along an outside wall and they all stopped in time, and then made a perfect left face to face the room. They all stood at attention, as Harley finally spoke.

"SG-8, all present, pre-inspection completed Lieutenant Brownell."

Watched the rank and file entry, his hands stilling their idle card shuffling.  At the practically 'ten-hut' announcement the apparent leader made, he discretely tucked the frayed and worn cards back in their equally frayed and worn case, and tucked it into the breast pocket he'd taken them out of.  Casting a glance round the room, he spied the clock, and watched Brownnell's multiple conversations with her sleeve.  Whatever was going to happen was happening soon, and the knowledge that he was sitting where he was unnerved him even more.

Anxious, though covering it, he stood and stretched, playing off his fidgeting nerves by feigning to try and wake his leg back up and stand behind his chair rather than sit in it.

LtC Jonathan Brown - NPC

Carrie shrugged a little, “Not very much, but if it’ll keep the ol’ man happy, I’ll do it,” then added with a grin, Got to admit I like them netter on the plate than in my lap though!”
She followed Maria down the rows of chairs and as she was about to turn right to take her seat, she felt someone give her a light brush on her arm.She turned and looked at back at the man behind her, grinning when realizing who it was, “Jon! I was starting to wonder when you’d show up.”

LtC Jonathan Brown grinned back at his wife, “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He gave her an amused once-over look, “But seriously, jeans when meeting the President!?”

Carrie grunted, “Yeah, well, every one around here doesn’t get first hand information or,” she gave him the same once-over look and swiped off some imaginary piece of dust from his shoulders, “have a nice looking uniform tucked away in the closet at work.”
“Privileges of an officer.” Jon gave her hand a gentle squeeze, “Now hurry up and take your seat,” he made a movement with his chin towards the other section of chairs, “I’ll be over there.”
Carrie returned the squeeze, wishing she could actually give him a hug, then let go and nodded, “Ok I’ll see you later.”

With a nod Jon turned and walked over to an empty chair, he looked at the man in BDU’s apparently trying to wake up some numbed body parts, “Is this seat taken?” and then nodded towards the woman next to him, "Major." A familiar face from the infirmary, although he couldn't quite place her.

Carrie hurried away to catch up with Maria and slipped a sigh of relief as he slid down on her seat, and grinned towards Maria, “Amazing; it takes a President to make me sit down more than a couple of minutes…”

The Admiral still hadn't replied, such was the coms once he was outside the base, so Cheryl took the moment to continue her organising. She shrugged, Harley never ever addressed her friend by rank, but yet it would seen her little indiscretion might have put a little fear of God into her, meaning the Admiral. She looked them over and smiled; they were superb as usual. "Second row left Harley." Cheryl glanced over at the covey of women and one lone male gathering nearby; she knew each and every one of them. At least someone was organising themselves and Colonel Lee won't be alone either, that made her smile.

Mike stepped out of the elevator and hurried over to the designated area; it was starting to fill up to the last chair, but from the looks of it, he wasn’t the last one in.
He slipped a sigh of relief and took a few moments to catch his breath before entering the room, taking the middle aisle, looking for his chair. He must have looked more bewildered than he felt, because suddenly Carrie waved and pointed to the chair next to Maria.
Mike returned the greeting with a nod and grunted inwardly, ‘Oh just great. First row, my usual luck!’ then took a deep breath, walked over to his seat and sat down with a quiet “Hey” to Maria next to him and to Kim behind her.

Col George Sanderson.
Mjr Fred Rivers.
1st Lt Charlotte Summers
SSgt Gary Carter

Fred walked in, followed by the two female off worlders. He looked around for a second then back at them.
"Sorry, I have to go, But I'll catch uo with you as soon as this is done ok?" he smiled at them as he pulled his hat on. He then turned to walk over to the rest of his group, he saw George glare at him as he slided over and sat down. Looking around at the rest of the people before leaning over to George and asking.
"What's the Procedure sir?" The Colonel shrugged.
"No idea, Normally I get an update from the IOA or the MOD, so Im going to say we stay in out places, but stand up and down here when the president comes in and all that palava." Fred nodded.
"Got it." The other two had listened as well and nodded. but Charlotte gently moved her foot and felt something hard on Fred's ankle.
"What's that?" she asked. Fred shrugged.
"Small knife." he shrugged.
"You never know when somebodys going to try to kill you." he said shrugging again as he looked back at the front and crossed his leg.
"You know that feeling you get when you really dont want to be somewhere?" asked Gary.
"Staff Sergeant, your not leaving." Said the Colonel
"Why?" he asked
"Because I cant leave. And if i have to wear this monkey suit you have to wear yours." said fred as he got a small laugh from the others.

Finally it was starting to gel together, almost everyone was now in place; only two that Cheryl could think of were still to come; Commander McFearson and Lieutenant Colonel Ovcharenko. The last she had not seen all day and 'Legs' only thirty minutes ago. Feeling rather chuffed that it had basically gone rather well, Cheryl was wearing her normal sunbeam smile. The only dampener to her spirits was the fact that the one person who made it possible for them still to be even alive was listed technically as MIA.

The two bursts of static from the Admiral told her he was offline and she only had to follow orders from now onwards. She took a swallow, Cheryl wasn't a drill instructor that was for certain; her tiny voice was a little shrill if she raised it just a single decibel. So she did the best thing she could think of. She moved over in in front of the rows of chairs and bent, hands on knees. "Excuse me Jon. Colonel Lee, could you do me a favor please, as I am not terribly good at this sort of thing. The Admiral has ordered me to call everyone to stand, face inwards towards the aisle at parade rest (stand easy for the Brits and Aussies) and when the president arrives on our level, at attention."

****************

"Well I for one think its sweet Carrie." Maria finally admitted. "As weird as it sounds, I'm a little envious of the three of you girls. My relationship with my dad wasn't what you would call a real father-daughter relationship. In fact I hardly ever saw him growing up." Such was the life of a diplomats daughter. Which reminded her of a friend they had all made who came from a similar background. "Oh by the way, I received an email from Melinda Olofsson yesterday. It was a week old, but such is our communication from Atlantis. She is doing well and has her own surgery now on base. It would seem there are more animals in the Pegasus galaxy than we might have imagined. Its hard to believe that millions of light years away, domestic live stock and even dogs play exactly the same role as here on Earth. To the point she mentioned, the breeds are hardly any different."

By this time Ruby had found her chair in the front row, Kim was delegated to the base staff row near Jon Brown and the new guy in BDU's. She thought for a moment she had seen him before; she was going to say something, but refrained when Cheryl came to them. Ruby herself sat where she was, as nervous as a kitten.

((OOC everyone did well :) @ Fred. Gary and Bella would have been back at base and off to the battle by the time it took place. Not to mention reinforcements :D ))

{CMS Walter Harriman} NPC

The old base Cheif Master Sergeant had been filling in for Lieutenant Brownwell as security, he would of course have to be here quite soon and now was as good a time as any. On his way up the passageway from the elevator his eye was attracted by a set of keys on the floor just near the corner that led into the conference room. He picked them up, looking at the small name plate attached to them 'Capt R Hughes USMC'. Bingo! He walked smartly into the room, a little taken aback at the crowd that had managed to gather, sought out Rob and approached him. "Er, Captain Hughes, I think these are yours." He held out his hand, showing the keys on his palm.

He gave Donovan’s hand a firm shake, “Jonathan Brown,” then looked at the name tags, noticing them for the first time. “Oh, that’s a new one.”
Jonathan scratched his head, looked around and finally found his name tag on a chair in the row behind him.
He looked back at Donovan with a small grin, “Looks like I’m supposed to sit over there, excuse me.”
As he moved over he shot a look at Carrie in the other end of the room where she sat with the rest of the medical team and a pang of guilt made his stomach do a flip-flop. Of course he was proud of her being able to handle all of this, but if he’d known that they’d send her off world or rather in to deep space as soon as she’d set foot in the mountain, he’d never brought her here in the first place. Never urged her to seek the position as chief of surgery...
With a small sigh, he slipped down in his seat and waited for the ceremony to begin.

He watched the other man walk away, once again sitting by himself, and began tapping his fingers on the arms of his chair, spinning back and forth absently with one foot until he realized everyone else was apparently just as anxious as he was, though obviously different reasons.  He was anxious because he had no idea why he was there, especially considering who was visiting.  He could only guess as to why everyone else seemed on edge.

Tucking his hands into his pockets to keep them still he sat back in his chair, and forced himself to focus on holding still to give his mind something to do.

As they all sat around waiting for something to happen. As he did Fred lent over to the Colonel
"Sir."
"yeah."
"I've been meaning to ask you something. Can you Suggest to the MOD that they lean on the IOA to authorise a Search mission for Cate MacGregor." The colonel nodded a little.
"Whys that Major?" he asked Fred shrugged.
"Because sir, I rekon that the PM wouldnt mind being able to tell the Australians that we helped in the rescue of one of their, if not their best Officer. And Im getting tired of her not being a pain in my arse every now and then." he felt a Jab in his ribs coming from Charlotte who cleared her throat.
"And?" she asked. Fred nodded.
"And we dont leave our people behind." said Fred nodding. The Colonel smiled.
"I'll pass on the Message. but unfortunately, I cant send a whole team. I can send you three. but thats it." he shrugged a little. "The Admiral still has control over the rest of the personnel." Fred nodded.
"Then so be it sir." mumbled Gary. Fred nodded a little.
"Sir, me and Gary have had six months to plan out tactics and everything, we cant promise we'll find her, but we can promise to do the best we can."
"So thats what you do when your ment to be writing lists of people you think would be good for  SGC training from home?" Smiled George. Fred nodded.
"Most the time yes sir."
Fred knew Rob would want to, But unfortunately Fred couldn't convince the Admiral, but hopefully he could convince people in the MOD that it was worthy enough to lean on the IOA so they requested that the Admiral organise a team to do so. If the Admiral hadn't planned it already.

Fred also knew he hadn't a hope in hell of this request passing the MOD but he had to ask. To make himself feel better,

Larkin and Adia stood against the wall in silence and waited with the rest of the personnel. After six months on the earth base neither one of them was used to all this formality yet. Although their bodies were on a different planet their minds were still in their worlds. It was going to take some more time until they were used to it. Both women were just thankful that they didn't make them wear the matching BDU's they made the Tau'ri wear. They were most comfortable in their own attire and felt more connected to their worlds.

"Do you know how long this will last?"  Larkin asked not use to all this waiting around. She was always on the go, the run, and never had the time to wait. She was always running the wraith and searching for her father.

"I'm not quite sure,"  Adia began, "but I'm sure it'll be over before we know it."  Adia was used to waiting. She was the leader of her people now and she was always patient since she was a child. Not many Jaffa had patience, but it was something she perfected through the years as she waited for her people to be free.

Captain Robert Hughes

Robert frowned. "My... keys?" Where - how - had he lost them? One of them had been Catherine's last birthday gift to him, even if she hadn't been there to give it to him. Though he still wasn't sure what he thought about his car - Sally - actually talking to him. "Thank you, Chief Master Sergeant. Speaking of which, I need to put in a request for my set of office keys. Admiral Davidson placed me in command of SG-9."

Figuring it had been long enough and no new faces had arrived, he glanced sidelong at Brownwell, sighed, and pushed to his feet.  He reached for his name reserve plate and used it to rap on the edge of the table slow and repeatedly until he had attention of at least a majority of the eyes of the room.  He was no stranger to taking command, but he wasn't sure anyone here would even recognize his status, name plate or no.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it's been asked that we form rank at-ease.."  he used an open hand with his thumb faintly tucked against his palm to indicate the arrival doors, "probably best two rows facing the isle there.  When the ViP arrives, of course," he gave a self conscious lopsided smile "all hands on deck."

He cast a glance over to Brownwell and arched a questioning brow as if saying "good enough?"

Cheryl straightened up the moment Donovan stood and moved back towards the dais. Finally her day was fulfilled and complete. The Colonel didn't let her down and his announcement was perhaps the best she had heard for a long time; and that was her father also a Marine (deceased) like Lee. She smiled at him and moved down the lines so she could be near the door to see the Admiral and the 'special' guests arrive.

{CMS Walter Harriman} NPC

Walter felt a bit silly really. Rob was young enough to be his own son, and much like him except for the height. Peter Harriman took after the old man in that department; but the silly thing was calling the young Marine 'sir'. But that was military life. He shrugged. "They were on the floor just outside sir and you don't need a key Captain; the moment you were given SG9, I registered your ID card, you only need to swipe it at the access panel. The keys though for the individual cabinets and lockers are in the drawer of your desk sir."

"Nice of the guy in charge to dress up for the occassion," Michiel muttered to Hans who was in front of him. "And maybe he could have added a few more terms from other branches. I think that was my favorite part."

"Can it Freeman," came the growling voice of Tony from behind him. "If you had ever learned to shut your mouth, maybe you could give the orders. Now shut it, before you lose teeth."

"Yes, Staff Sergeant,"  Michiel offered with an inscincere tone.

The four of them all stood up and moved over. falling in line next to SG-8 and all standing at parade rest. George spoke quietly.
"We stand at attention, don't salute unless spoken to directly." He then mumbled to himself. "I don't damn well know how to preform around the President of the USA."
Fred smiled to himself hearing the colonel. "Non of us imagined this day when we joined. Never even thought I would meet the PM." the rest all mumbled in agreement.
Gary was next to the marines and nodded to the other staff sergeants there. this is one thing he hated. Hopefully the president wouldn't treat him as the other SSgt's. Its not that he felt he was better than them, but these staff sergeants were squad leaders, where as he was the NCO of a whole company. in his mind the lines didn't match them up.
Charlotte stood there quietly humming the doctor who theme to herself.

As quietly as she had found her way back into the SGC last night, Anne found her way to the Ceremony room. A few faces she knew, but for now all she wanted to do was keep to herself. Her own staff she could see up front and for now the head of the Stargate Programme's medical unit wanted to avoid any unnecessary chit chat. The only problem with that, as she could clearly see; each and every chair in the room had a name attached to it and hers was right up the front among those she knew best. A few steps outside the room, she had heard someone call the 'attention'; obviously not for her, but for the President. She assumed he and his entourage would be here any moment. Anne moved to the front; nodded at her staff and stood quietly near Carrie and Mike. Ruby was in front of her and it was that young woman's moment; Anne did as she always did and tactfully kept her mouth shut, her mind a whirl of emotions. "If they so much as bring Cate's name up I will be sick, violently sick." The thoughts in her mind told her.

The three women were in their element, or should have been. With the arrival of Commodore MacGregor and the two young English women, effectively the females of the SGC had the upper hand. Given the right circumstances they could have made a real hens night of it (or at least morning). But it was not to be; this was a serious matter, if handing out awards was serious; that much they did know, Ruby knew and even though she really wasn't supposed to let on, she did allow a few tidbits to slip out here and there. The other girls simply put two and two together.

Ruby was about to remark to both Maria and Carrie about Melinda, when that new guy called them to stand and be ready for the grand entry of the President; then her heart sank when she saw Anne come in. She felt so sorry for the older women and in her heart she wished she could do something for her. She nodded to her friends and Maria fell silent. Kim whispered to Carrie her voice barely audible. "Has she said much to you lately Carrie?"

Sean had waited for the President and his family to exit the vehicle first, then he followed.  Sarah, he knew, would be behind him, and as they approached the elevator in silence the admiral thought about what the President had just told him.   There had been some political shifting lately, the likes of which Sean typically didn't pay attention to, but now the French wanted total transparency.  Apparently that sentiment carried over to the Chinese and to the Russians, which he thought was rather unusual given that the former were still bent on their Communistic ways, where government secrecy was the norm rather than the exception.  Sure, China had experienced a pro-democracy uprising in 1989 at Tiananmen Square, but was quickly put down by the military.  Russia's own democratic changes came about after the fall of the former Soviet Union in 1991, then two years after that Yeltsin declared martial law and did away with their parliament, calling for new elections.  The new constitution, Sean had read, was approved by referendum in December 1993.

But why were the French starting to act up, particularly those on the Left?  It came as little surprise to him who was behind it - the French Socialists.  Sean avoided politics in general whenever he could, but apparently the French Socialists were hell-bent on uncovering everything that they deemed as "sensitive" or "secretive".  That meant whatever went on at the SGC was now subject to scrutiny, and suggested the French representative to the IOA would either bend to the wishes of his or her new masters, or be replaced with someone more complacent.

As the elevators opened, Sean would let the President and his family enter first, then he would followed by Sarah.  At least one or two of his security detail would travel down with them; Jack and the others would be taking the next car down.  Sean thought about the most expedient way dealing with these politicians, and for a moment he briefly considered having them beamed aboard one of the fleet vessels before dumping them out the nearest airlock.  He could always have the ship's captain claim it was a "minor malfunction" and as the program's commanding officer, it would be easy enough for Sean to deflect any and all inquiries.  Before he could suggest it, however, the elevator pinged indicating the seventeenth level and the doors opened.

Kim whispered to Carrie her voice barely audible. "Has she said much to you lately Carrie?"

Carrie gave their boss a nod and what she hoped was an encouraging smile. 'Good, at least she’s here, that's more than I hoped for' she thought before leaning closer towards Kim.
“Outside of the strictly professional; no, not much. Every time I’ve tried she shuts herself up like a clam, so for now I’ve stopped pushing...”, she whispered back.
Carrie wanted to help, but what was she supposed to do? Order her to go see the base shrink? No, that wasn’t even on the map. MacGregor knew that Carrie's door was literally always open, the question was if she would ever step over the threshold.

{Major Tiff O'Neill}
{Captain Roxy Evans}

Roxy and Tiff walked over to Fred and his British gang. "Hey guys"

"Alright, how's it going? Bit hectic in here ennit"

"Any idea who this VIP is?"

Col George Sanderson.
Mjr Fred Rivers.
1st Lt Charlotte Summers
SSgt Gary Carter

Gary nodded to Major O'Neill. "Ma'am." he then nodded to Captain Evans. "Ma'am."
Charlotte smiled at them, feeling a little more comfortable with more Females in her immediate vicinity, expectedly British females. As one of them mentioned its a bit hectic, Fred shrugged.
"No, Hectic is a battlefield co-coordinating a team to take out the enemy whilst dealing with a casultie. This? This is absolute Bollucks." He said, his voice a little below normal speech volume. George shrugged.
"Would have thought they have this wrapped tighter than an Eskimos balls, but seams very last muinete." he then heard the ding of the lift and the Colonel straightened up. Gary saw this and clearly, im a parade voice, not a yell said.
"Stand to, Stand To. Boys and Girls." Letting the others know it was time for all them to stop talking and straighten up to parade rest. It was mostly aimed at the British personnel but he didn't doubt that the Marine SNCO would follow his lead.

((OOC: sorry wasnt sure if I could get away with Bollucks, thought I could because its like the same level as the other B words used in stargate so, somebody tell me if im worng or an Admin can change it to balls.))

"Ten-HUT!" called out as the generic call to attention the moment the doors opened, seeing no one else doing so for the stateside troops, and per-empting the Lt from prompting him.  He snapped to attention position even as he said it for the civilian's benefit, so the 'hutt' part was accompanied by a firm heel stomp, thumbs turned in along the seam of either BDU pant leg on either side.

"She needs er' family simple as that." Ruby interjected, twisting her head around so she could just barely whisper the words. Which was rather difficult with Anne right beside her. Kim nodded in agreement; her mouth was open to reply when the new guy called the attention. The three Air Force girls, Maria, Kim and Ruby snapped into line, Kim nudging Carrie in the ribs and speaking out the side of her mouth.

"Just be yourself Carrie, be calm and maybe just place your hands behind your back."

From her position in the hallway, Cheryl saw the elevator door open and did a quick 180 and ran back into the conference room. She was too late as Donovan had more than likely heard the elevator himself, calling the 'ten hut!' very smartly and at just the right volume. She fell into line about three rows back from the front; hands stiffly by her side, thumbs in line with the seam of her skirt.

The moment Sean, Sarah and the presidents party stepped off the elevators (they had to use both of them) agents lined the passageways in every direction. They need not have bothered, but it was simply procedure for them. A tall woman, just like the men in a black pants suit, still wearing RayBans, approached Wil and his family. "All clear Mister President." She said simply and melted back into the background as quickly as she came.

Wil shrugged, it was a routine he could do without. As they walked towards the Conference room he leaned over to Sean and Sarah. "An Air Force press team will be here in fifteen minutes and a camera crew and you know what Admiral?" He used the appropriate title this time. "I have no idea what I am going to say to the world. Other than the speech I have prepared for Captain Forster."

"So long as you don't put your foot in your mouth Wil, you'll be okay."  Nicole said with a touch of her dry humour. She meant it though, her husband had all too often said things he later wished he hadn't.

SG-8 snapped sharply to attention, moving in rhythm with the rest of the military members in the room. They were a clean sight, even Michiel managed to wipe the normal look of condesention from his face. They were all blank slates, their eyes boring into the far wall as they waited for the President.

Sean killed the smile that threatened to crease the corners of his lips.  This was another reason why he hated politics; he was never one to give a lengthy speech, instead preferring to do his best to stay on topic and keep it brief.  The President had came unprepared, which was so unlike the man whom formerly commanded a flight squadron.  The First Lady chided him a little, and Sean spared a glance at Sarah before returning his attention to the President.  "Respectfully, Mister President," Sean replied, "There isn't much *to* say.  Most of the after-action reports are still classified to my knowledge.  I wouldn't say anything about Flight Lieutenant Hughes; at least, not directly.   It's likely that her mother will be present, and Doctor MacGregor and I have been good friends for many years.  Heaven knows she's already gone through hell and back twice, losing her husband and now her daughter.  Admiral MacGregor's been M-I-A for quite some time, and after Flight Lieutenant Hughes gave her life to give our forces a key victory at Asculae Tena, well...losing loved ones is something that shouldn't be shouldered alone.  All Doctor MacGregor has now is her son and her son-in-law."

"If anything, Mister President, I'd recommend to keep it as brief as possible and not go into specifics."  As they approached the makeshift assembly hall, Sean heard a "Ten-HUT!" and the sounds of boots coming together.   That brought a smile to his face; for once he would be able to witness the men and women under his command in full regalia, awaiting a presidential inspection.  There was no need for him to stop and salute the President again; he and Sarah had already done that previously.  Now it would be up to the leader of the free world to do his part, to inspect each man and woman in uniform.

Sarah still had a slight smile on her face from when Jack had sidled up next to her and gave her a big toothy smile.  He would certainly be a lady killer when he got older.  She had managed not to give away her thoughts though and slipped out of the elevator behind the others.  She then took up her spot next to Sean, listening to what the president had to say.  "It sounds like this will be tricky, sir," she said respectfully.  "Upsetting or angering any one person could be detrimental."  She was glad that she wasn't the one who had to give the speech.  She could fly anything with wings, but don't ask her to give a speech.

Sarah caught the smile on Sean's face when they heard the Ten-Hutt!  It was a rare thing to see a smile on his face and she found herself remembering some other times that she had seen that smile.  The young woman quickly pulled her thoughts away from that area though and concentrated on the task at hand.  This was not the time to be caught wool-gathering.

McKay slipped in the back of the room and made his way forward. He had come from, where else, the SGC labs, at which he had been engaged in important scientific research that would probably be important. It was also one of the six billion things he had to do, so taking time out for a meeting, even with the President, wouldn't be conducive to him getting anything resembling a decent sleep. But then again, that was why they had invented coffee.

Eventually, he was standing in the foreground, looking a bit disheveled and casual compared to the military folks surrounding him. Still, he was the only representative from Atlantis, since Woolsey wasn't here. A bit anxious to get back to work, he waited for the President to arrive so they could get started, glancing at everyone else who was standing at attention. It was times like these he was glad he wasn't military.

Just because he didn't have enough experience in that area. as he whispered it he felt a sharp pain in his ribs and grimaced looking at the colonel who shrugged.
"Shut up?" he shrugged. Fred nodded standing back at ease properly.
"Aye colonel." he shrugged a little as his mind wandered and he looked over the women assembled. Before again shaking any notions away knowing he had no chance even if he decided he liked one of them.

The last thing Anne wanted to do this very minute was to stand. More so to stand among all these brave people who did so much to keep her daughter alive. Anne was grateful for that at least, yet in the end, the result was still the same; that galled her deeply and it showed in her every expression. Her aged brow wrinkled when she at last slowly stood, ignoring the sounds of boots and shuffling bodies that came to attention. Her head swiveled slowly around and she took in at a glance each of those she knew; to her own medical team, she simply gave them a slight nod. "Damn it old woman, you'll fall apart. Get some backbone." She chided herself.

A tiny smile creased the corners of her mouth. "I'm not bloody deaf yet." Anne said to both Kim and Carrie. "If you must be so curious girls, I simply needed some alone time. I hope I haven't offended any of you with my silence of late."

Wil had briefed his family on the way over from DC and even little Jack understood just how serious this was. Finally just before the wide double door entry Wil stopped and looked keenly at Sean. "As always I'll muddle through this Admiral, I guess its what I do best in the end. But I have to tell you, I wish right now I was at 60,000 feet in the high blue if you get my drift." He tightened his shoulder. "That was one of my surprises, Nic managed to convince Commondore MacGregor to be here, so of course my lips will be zipped.....I suppose someone should let em know I'm here." Sean could understand the President's frustrations, and even Sarah agreed that it wouldn't do any good to upset one particular person.  But it came as a surprise to him when Anne was asked to be on-hand for the ceremony.  Sean hadn't seen her in years, and now that he was in charge of the entire Stargate Program that meant he was now her boss.  "I should have a chat with her after the ceremony," he said.  "And I can guarantee it'll be more than just catching up.  She'll want to know if we've made any headway on finding any clues to her daughter's whereabouts."  He sighed, then rubbed his eyes with a free hand as his cap was tucked underneath his left arm.  "I can at least give her some good news on that front.  I recently signed orders turning command of SG-Nine over to her son-in-law.  Captain Hughes will probably want to return to Asculae Tena to begin a search operation, and I'm not inclined to turn down his request so as long as he agrees to report in on a regular basis."

Sean shook his head when the President said that someone needed to announce his arrival.  "I think they already know you're here, Mister President, but we'll make the formal announcement regardless," he said, then nodded to the two airmen standing guard at the door.  The double doors opened, allowing an unrestricted view of the interior.  Sean was able to see that everyone was already standing at attention, but simply looked at Sarah.  "Major Devlin," he said, "Would you care to do the honors?"

Sarah kept a hold of each child's hand as they walked.  It was easy to tell that everyone was nervous and of course with the parents being nervous it was only natural that it would rub off on the children.  Sarah did feel bad for them.  So young and already having the weight of the world on their shoulders.  She would do what she could make this easier on them.

Sarah stood straighter as Sean spoke to her.  She nodded and knelt down briefly by the children.  "Both of you be brave," she whispered to them, giving them a brief smile before getting to her feet.  She walked through the double doors, shoulders back and head held high.  Once through the doors she took a quick step to the right.  "Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States and the First Family," she said formally, her English heritage showing in the slight accent she still held.

He stood still and unmoved from his attention posture since he'd assumed it. He'd practiced it with the same dedication he'd approached his Ori officer's training; nearly fanatically.  He could hear the banter back and forth and around him, and even as he kept himself straight and stoic, internally he was drawing comparisons to himself.  Outsider, technically an alien from another galaxy, he wondered if he'd fit in here at all with these people who acted like family with each other.  He watched out of his peripheral the comradely jesting, the familiar kidding and jibes.

These were things these people did, no matter what nation they were from, and yet he did not.  He could master a complicated chord string on a guitar in a matter of minutes without sheet music, but he couldn't pin down the subtle nuances of social interaction.  At best he could recite a joke he heard, but he was horrible at the delivery and timing, let alone infliction necessary to make it funny, though that alone usually ended up being enough to make the people he told it to laugh.

The leader of a nation was entering the room, and where he came from, before at any rate, such a thing was both monumental, and life altering.  Here, it was just another day to these people, and though he had never met this President, he'd met the previous, when he had attained his official citizenship, and he felt no less awed by the experience now as then.

Let them have their jokes, and games.  He would take from this his own experiences, and remember it for himself.  After all, that was all he had at the moment.

I just realised you were there as well. A garden party at the Australian Embassy wasn't it?" Wil took a deep breath and led the group in; he was met with a snap salute from every uniformed person in the room, including many of whom were not Americans. As he walked Wil felt a little guilty, in his heart he was still that wild boy Major from Georgia and nothing much else mattered to him other than his family. He was thrown head first into the Presidency because the party wanted another guy who had served and would do justice to the downturn of the US's military status.

"At ease people, please. Among ya'll I'm just a regular guy." He chuckled as he headed for dais. Standing behind the mic, he tapped it to see that it was working. "Damn me folks if I don't feel like a rock star. I'll wait for our little group to get settled and we'll begin this auspicious occasion." It almost came to no surprise to him as the President opted to forego the inspection, calling for everyone to stand at ease.  By skipping the presidential inspection, Sean estimated a good hour had been shaved off this visit.  Regular guy, indeed, thought Sean wryly as he walked in shortly after the President and his family entered the assembly hall.  He stopped and nodded to Sarah, speaking softly to her to go ahead and take her seat. He then marched up and stood just to the right and behind the President.  As the Stargate Program commanding officer, it was customary for him to be standing by in case he was needed to assist with anything during this visit. Seated were the various dignitaries; as were the service secretaries and General O'Neill.

Sean thought about what the President had said about Anne.  He also tried to think of when he and the President had last met; he couldn't quite recall if it was at the Australian Embassy or not.  Shrugging internally, he took his free hand and made a 'be seated' gesture, indicating for everyone else to take their seats.  The various comments he couldn't quite catch, but it was clear that probably one or two persons weren't too pleased by this particular event.

Sarah was grateful her part was over for now.  She nodded to Sean and stepped back to find her seat, wondering just how the President would handle this now.  She glanced around, surprised by how full the room was.  She managed to hide a chuckle when she saw a couple of the other women slip in hopefully unnoticed.  At least they had made it.  Sarah turned her attention back to the President and smiled, sparing a quick glance at Sean.  She really hoped she got a chance to talk to him later on.

Slipped into At-ease when the president spoke, then arched a brow faintly as he asked them to settle.  Torn between simply finding his seat, or holding out seats for the fairer gender seeming to outnumber him three to one, he opted to be simple.  Giving the civilian women he stood beside a brief, and almost too faint smile and nod, still with hands behind his back, he quietly and without fanfare returned to the seat and the face down name plate.  He briefly glanced at it, then at Sean, the current C&C he hadn't met yet, wondering if perhaps he was the reason everyone seemed to expect him to be there.

Sitting, he loosely folded his hands in his lap, trying to appear casual, not letting on the fact that he had to fold his hands to keep them from tapping on the armrests, or fidgeting.  Never one for being idle, he'd found some solace here and there, but times like this only made him anxious and nervous, always waiting to mess up something and end up back in that ten by ten box with no light.  The thought was enough to make him momentarily close his eyes and force himself to breathe evenly, before focusing once more on the present.

Stepping off the elevator Janet; dressed in a nice maternity pantsuit in dark blue just the same shade as her dress blues with nice comfortable slip on black flat style dress shoes; walks as quickly down the hallway toward the conference room as fast as her 7 and a half months pregnant body would allow looking forward she sees two young Daedalus crew members also heading for the conference room and let's a grin grace her face for a moment before letting her face return to the straight faced look she usually has on duty.

Soon entering the conference room she makes a quick sweep of the room with her eyes hoping to spot not only Anne but hopefully Sam as well as she needs to talk to Sam either before or after her regular appointment with Anne to check on the twins make sure they are developing properly.  Seeing an empty seat Janet slips quietly across the back of the room and slipping in next to her new friend Calliegh Caine and talking quietly out of the corner of her mouth whispers "Hi Cal mind scooting over a tad please so I can slip in next to you?"  Waiting quietly for Cal to move Janet comes to attention and waits for permission to move to the at ease stance or sit down in one of the chairs whatever order whomever is in charge of giving the orders says they are allowed to do.

Calleigh smiles. She sees her best friend and nods and scoots over standing at attention to give her some room. She whispers: "I sure can." as she gets over to let her in and stands at attention and gets her bun in place and fixes her uniform. She whispers to her really quickly before they start: "Need to talk to you as soon as we can get time after the ceremony." She smiles as she stands at attention serious and in respect of the proceedings. Everyone is quiet and she is silent as the proceedings begin to start.

Fred sighed and walked.
"Well that was easy, why went we allowed to wear a set of DPM's each again?" he mumbled as he sat down in his chair. Between the Colonel and Tiff. The colonel looked at him.
"Just because you showed up to the PM's house late once, and he let you in still wearing your DPM's dosnt mean your allowed to wear them with everyone." said the Colonel sitting down. then Gary added from the end of the row.
"Bloody stupid thing dress uniforms in my opinion."

{Major Tiff O'Neill}
{Captain Roxy Evans}

Both women remained at their formal stance as the Presidential family entered the room. Tiff had met the family briefly two years ago just as she arrived in this reality, they seemed very down to earth and lovely. Roxy on the other hand had never seen them in the flesh, it was pretty exciting for her and she watched on eagerly. As everyone else began to seat themselves, the Major and Captain took their seats next to Fred, George, Charlotte and Gary. Tiff was very happy to see Janet enter the room, she hadn't had the chance to speak to her for a while, maybe a couple of moths or more. As she watched Janet take her seat across the room, Tiff gave a sly wave a big smile to Janet. She wondered if Uncle Jacob would come, another she hadn't had the chance to catch up with.

"I agree" Roxy whispered to Gary, not taking her eyes of the President.

Glancing at Cal Janet makes a quick nod responding quietly "We can walk down to the infirmary together after this and talk."  Letting her eyes roam around the room while still standing at attention she spots Tiff across the room and winks at her before mouthing to her "Hi Tiff meet me in the infirmary after this if you get time to and bring Sam if you see her." She then returns to her straight faced on-duty look but her eyes keep roaming taking in the whole room still hoping to spot Sam even though she knows that SG1 has pretty much been retired if she knows her old friend she'd still show up on base to work on some device or other.

Jacob Carter/Selmak  {NPC}

He slides into the room quietly and snaps to attention letting his eyes roam the room and spots Tiff in one area of the room mentally smiling glad to see that she was here as she is suppose to be then his eyes spot Janet and in his mind he hears Selmak respond What's Janet doing here so early her appointment wasn't till later today wasn't it? He can feel Selmak move around with concern and he thinks

Take it easy Selmak you know Janet even with this pregnancy she still has to be in the know of what is going on around here she probably found out about this meeting and being the good military person she is she just had to be here for this.

Jacob keeps scanning the room looking to see who else from their reality has arrived for this meeting as Selmak responds True she is one person well besides Samantha whom seems to be here even when she is not here.

Sarah sat stiffly in her seat as the meeting continued.  She couldn't help herself as she cautiously looked around the room.  She at least knew or had heard of most everyone there, but that didn't help her last time.  She was not making the same mistake again.  It had nearly cost her her life last time.  The young woman scrubbed at her face before turning her attention back to the President and what he was saying.

I really should talk to someone about this,
she thought to herself.  But who?  She didn't have a best friend and she also didn't want to come across as weak.  She knew Anne and her family had enough on their plate as it was without adding her problems on top of it.  She stole a glance at Sean.  Sean maybe?  Would he understand?  She then caught sight of Ruby.  Or maybe Ruby.  She did owe the other woman a debt of gratitude.  Well, she would think more on that later.  Right now she needed to pay attention to what the President was saying.

With a large smile on his face, Wil waited for everyone to get settled; he didn't have to wait long as he was dealing with a fairly disciplined group of people. In his view the finest and bravest Earth had to offer; he glanced over his shoulder at Sean and nodded, he was as ready as he could ever be.

Wil adjusted the microphone to suit his height, gave his wife and kids and grin as he always did on these occasions and began. "Normally I start with something like hello my fellow Americans!" He chuckled only just a little, trying not to look or sound too corny. "But as this doesn't apply, I'll simply say hello friends; because to me, that is what all of you are. Every single one of you is a friend to this dearly loved Earth of ours, brave and true and even though the world doesn't know it yet; we all owe you a debt of deepest gratitude." He took a long breath and continued.

"First of all I want to thank General Jack O'Neill and Admiral Sean Davidson for having me here and giving me the honour of doing what I am about to do. There is something else I'll get to later which many of you may be uncomfortable with, but I won't spoil the moment now. So without further ado, Commodore MacGregor and Major Sarah Devlin, would you be so kind and escort Captain Ruby Forster up here for me please." He looked over the assembly, he couldn't neglect the commanders either. "General, Admiral, you guys aren't getting away easy either. I'm not doing this on my own you know."

McKay stiffened upas the President arrived, flanked by General O'Neill and Admiral Davidson. It wasn't every day you got to see the President, though McKay was certain he should have got some award for saving the galaxy from the Wraith Superhive. Oh, and for saving the planet from idiot scientists. Still, he was in the presence of a foreign head of state, so he put some of his exasperation at the time this was taking on hold and listened in. Hopefully it wouldn't take that much longer.

Still wasn't the same as meeting the Canadian PM though.

All Anne could think of right then and there was of her daughter. That at the very least her son and indeed son in law were alive and well gave her little consolation, yet it was something to cling onto. She had that much and there was that other little thing; Rob kept insisting Cate was out there somewhere. Anne tried so hard to cling onto that, giving herself those assurances that he was right, it helped that Ben backed him as well and that ongoing friendship made her smile; the days turning into months, the boys nights out, that lasted until Ben had to go home finally, but they were good days.

"So without further ado, Commodore MacGregor and Major Sarah Devlin, would you be so kind and escort Captain Ruby Forster up here for me please"

"What? Me?" Anne blinked. She stood slowly and looked at Ruby, then it dawned upon her. "Oh right. Come on lass, don't keep us waiting, on your feet."

Sarah had just turned her attention fully back to the President when she heard hers and Anne's name be called.  Her eyes widened slightly as she realized she hadn't been paying attention, but she just as quickly covered over her surprise and got to her feet.  She nodded to the President before walking back to where Anne and Ruby were.  She gave both of the other women a smile.  At least with these two she knew she was safe.

"Yes, we certainly don't want to keep everyone waiting," she said.

Neither woman was use to this type of fanfare for anyone. They did their best to learn from the personnel and they watched that box they called television to learn the ways of Earth, but it still was all new to them. How could one person have this much respect from so many people?

They all sat in the chairs, unlike many of the others they had taken the had taken the seats towards the back of the room, not the named reserved seats at the front. In Fred's mind those seats were for the people that the SGC considered of some worth. Which Fred didn't mind, This wasn't their program, so he didnt expect to be considered more valuable than the people of the bases chief nationality.
How ever Charlotte didnt like it, but that was likely because she was brought up in a system where kids couldnt of come in last place in school sports days anymore because they were scared if a child was in last place all the time then they wouldnt want to continue participating.
the Colonel however, unlike Gary and Fred who were slumped in their chairs, arms folded across their chests. Showing Obviously that they didnt want to be there, and Charlotte who Sat bolt upright because she still remembered the passing out drill instructions. Was sitting up with his left foot resting on his right knee looking at the British Ambassador. George knew it would be a chance to talk to him. Because after six months George hadn't been able to. They were ment to talk on a regular basis, but the man never so much as got his PA to phone up.
Gary stifled a yawn before leaning over to Fred and whispering.
"Sir, I was wondering, as SG twelve team leader you get to pick the team right?" he said. Fred lent forwards and looked over at him.
"Probobly not, not with the Admirial anyway. What's your point?" Said Fred
"Well surely as we are next to these two marvellous female British officers, you could ask about whos available and would be interested?"Fred looked at him confused for a moment.
"What?" He asked frowning a little before Gary sighed.
"Ask the Major and the Captain which women would be interested in you." Fred just looked at Gary blankly.
"Gary, your not my mother. So bugger off." Said Fred leaning back, now in an even worse mood as the proceedings carried on.

At Doctor MacGregor's insistence, Ruby started to stand. Her legs were shaking because she had a fairly good idea what was coming, the letter inside her jacket told her as much. She was half way standing when her friends, started clapping, slowly at first and then faster and louder. Kim nudged Carrie in the side gently and had to speak a little up volume because of the ever increasing din. "Don't you just love it when one of our own is recognised." Her smile said it all.

Ruby's face was lit scarlet across her cheeks, she was now standing next to Anne and her lips were trembling. "Ah feel so...honoured and embarrassed et th' same time." Only Sean the Admiral and General O'Neill were yet to stand at her side.

Lt. Gen. Jack O'Neill, USAF - (NPC)

As Ruby was being escorted by Sarah and Anne, Sean noticed Jack rising to his feet and allowing the ladies to pass his seat before walking behind them.  Once on the platform, Jack stood to Sean's right; Anne was at Sean's left.  Sean didn't have to say anything to the ladies under his command on military courtesy and protocol; it was something he had insisted on not only implementing but maintaining ever since being appointed as the new head of the Stargate Program.  A lot of people chafed under the sudden changes, but the new commanding officer wasn't going to budge.  As far as he was concerned, the program was an extension of the armed forces, and therefore the proper channels and protocols were to be observed.  Things may have been a lot looser under Hank's command, and possibly any of his predecessors.  But never under Sean's watch.  He supposed that, given time, he would probably relax more policies, but there were at least a few he already took care of.  For example, it was common for a senior officer to address a junior officer by his or her first name, but never in front of an airman or other enlisted personnel.  By the same token, it was never proper to address an NCO by his or her first name.  The exception to those rules was Walter, but that was only because of the man's position as the top NCO in the outfit.  But Walter wasn't allowed to address Sean by his first name, keeping in tradition with properly addressing a flag officer.

Likewise, no junior officer under his command could ever address Sean by his first name, either.  Again there was an exception, but it was only extended to two people: Anne, and Sarah.  Sean didn't mind if either woman addressed him by his first name in a private conversation, and it was to be limited to private talks only.  Senior officers like Jack, however, along with the President and the service secretaries were free to address Sean in an informal manner behind closed doors.

Sarah gave her friend an encouraging smile.  She owed Ruby her life.  She knew for a fact she wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the other woman.  "You deserve this.  There is no reason to be embarrassed, "she whispered to Ruby before falling into place with them.  The major took her spot with the others, giving Ruby all the attention.  She stood at attention, her hands at her sides and  her gaze forward.  Although she was still watching everyone and everything that was going on.  She felt a bit paranoid at the moment which was not a good thing.  Sarah was certainly going to have to talk to someone about this.  Right now though it was Ruby's moment and she was happy for her friend.

With a content and happy smile, Carrie stood and clapped as well, tilting her head towards Kim, “Oh absolutely!”
The girl might not have been under her direct command during the fight, but as Kim has stated, they, the medical staff, were one unit. No matter if you were stationed on the SGC, the Alpha site or on a cruiser far out in space for that matter, they still considered themselves as a group within the group.
So, yeah, she was proud on behalf of both Ruby and the medical team.

Feeling even more out of the loop and awkward, Donavan simply sat where he was, silently observing.  When everyone began cheering and clapping, he shifted uncomfortably in his seat a but but otherwise did everything to try and not draw any unwarranted attention.  Thankfully the apparent recognition was distraction enough for his awkward silence to go relatively unnoticed.  He was even more lost now than when he'd first shown up and heard he was expected.

So many things change in a short amount of time.

The thought made him remember a passage, and his hand rose unconsciously to touch at his chest, where under the BDU's and shirt, the small plaitnum paged book on it's chain resided, and the recollection calmed him.  He even managed a faint smile, though it didn't last long as his face resumed it's expressionless mask, hiding behind the intent dark blue stare anything he may have been thinking.

"Ah...er.." Ruby was speechless. She was an immigrant, to most Americans she was a foreigner and one with a very distinctive accent that made her stand out. Right now she had no idea what to say or do except one thing. She nodded just a tiny bit to Sarah and Anne, the rest of her friends she could no longer see, but she could feel their eyes in her back. Well it was she had their support, many of them owed their lives to her and the work of the med teams. This wasn't about her anymore, it was about the entire SGC Medical division. She stepped forward and saluted President Bomana. He himself stepped off the dais nimbly, returned her salute and then pulled out an official looking letter from his coat pocket. Raising his hand, the crowd fell to silence.

{President Wilson Bomana} NPC

He looked at Ruby and smiled, a warm and giving smile, then Wilson took the entire audience in with a slow turn of his head. "My friends, today is a very special day. Not only for young Captain Ruby Forster, but for all of you." At a signal, one of his own staff came from the side and presented him with blue velvet box. "When the letter of commendation came across my desk.." He raised his eyebrows at Sarah and gave her an assuring nod. "....I read with interest, deep interest what this young woman had done. It was a reflection of what I was to read sometime later when I received the mission reports from what could only be described as our escape from Armageddon and our certain demise; which all and everyone of you saved our unworthy hides, I was even more impressed by what has been accomplished." He took a pause and opened the case. "Admiral, I'm handing this proud duty over to you. You oversaw our victory, along with all your teams and personnel and this is your privilege."

Within the case lay, not the Silver Star, both Ruby and Sean had been briefed on, but the Medal of Honor. The letter attached read. "To Captain Ruby Allison Forster, United States Air Force Medical Division. In recognition of your selfless, courage, honor, devotion to those within your team and in the face of a ruthless enemy; you freely risked your own life to save others, including the following. Major Sarah Devlin, Gunnery Sergeant Avery Davis USMC, First  Lieutenant Harley Lawler, Gunnery Sergeant Brad Cooper, Staff Sergeant Tony Espiseto, HCM 2nd Class Brian Roberts, Corporal Dennis Sharrd, Lance Corporal Abe Garcia and Private First Class Jenny Lennings. You are hereby awarded the Medal of Honor, by direct authority of the President of The United States."

One the table next to the dais, there was a stack of cases, all different colours to signify different awards. There was one other blue case as well. That may not be awarded on this day, but Kim saw it. She kept her voice low. "Damn.. Carrie, our Ruby girl is getting the Medal of Honor. But can you see there on the table, there is another one....I wonder?" She left the question on her lips.

Sean handed his cap to a nearby aide, then took one step forward before executing a crisp left-face.  He marched over to where the President was waiting with the case, and Sean accepted it after saluting the CIC.  After a crisp about-face, Sean stopped, executed a perfect forty-five degree turn, then withdrew the attached letter.  He scanned it briefly, then nodded before replacing it.  "Captain Ruby Forster," he addressed the fiery-haired nurse.  "Shortly after I assumed command of the Stargate Program, I was witness to watching you and your team being extracted from a hostile situation in which you were critically wounded while evacuating a number of civilians.  Had it not been for the timely intervention of our medical corps, you would not be standing here in front of your peers.  I had reviewed the after-action reports and, along with input from Major Devlin, submitted my recommendation to have you awarded with the Silver Star for putting the needs - and lives - of your teammates and civilians above that of your own personal goals."  Sean kept his face as neutral as possible.  "However, after further review, that award has been amended."  He then quoted part of the letter he'd just read, but made a few last-minute revisions.  "In recognition of your selflessness, courage, honor, and devotion to those within your team and in the face of a ruthless enemy; under direct authority from the President of the United States, I hereby bestow upon you with the highest military honors possible.  The Medal of Honor."

Sean knew there were at least three different versions of the Medal of Honor, and noted that the one he was about to place around Ruby's neck was the Air Force version.  It was a gold five-pointed star with one point down, tipped with trefoils and each point containing a crown of laurel and oak on a green enamel background.  Centered on the star were thirty-four stars surrounding an image of the head of the Statue of Liberty. The whole device was surrounded by a green-enameled laurel wreath, edged in gold; and was suspended from an adapted version of the Air Force coat of arms - a baton wth eagle claws at both ends rested on a pair of aviator's wings while thunderbolts radiated from the middle.  That was attached to a horizontal bar bearing the word "Valor", in all capital letters.  The familiar light blue neck ribbon and octogonal-shaped pad with thirteen white stars passed through the bar itself.

Also in the case were the service ribbon and lapel button; those would be handed to Ruby later.  The same aide came up to Sean and took the case from him, holding it out so the admiral could remove the medal with both hands, and stepped up to Ruby, placing it over her head and letting it come to rest on her shoulders.  Once around her neck, Sean took a step back and saluted Ruby.  "Congratulations, Captain Forster."

Sarah could tell that her friend was extremely nervous.  Of course Sarah wasn't so sure that she wouldn't be feeling the same way if she was going through this.  When the president changed the award that Ruby received the Major was just as shocked as everyone else.  She kept her face neutral though, but couldn't have been happier for her friend.  Rudy and her medical team deserved it.  Ruby had been badly injured trying to save them and Sarah knew that there would have been a lot of loss of life if Ruby hadn't acted as quickly as she could.

Sarah shifted just briefly from foot to foot before taking her stance again.  She wanted to give Ruby a big hug, but knew that was against protocol.  She would find Ruby later when they were alone and give her that hug.  For now though she would keep with a protocol, although a smile did touch her lips.

Ruby promised herself before she arrived today, straight from physio, that she wouldn't cry. But cry she did, tears flowed like rivers from both bright eyes. She swallowed hard, looked up at Sean and over at the President who was smiling broadly at her and that at least gave her a little confidence. Ruby could feel her best friend Sarah right beside her and Anne, her guardian angel for the time she was in hospital, she wanted to reach out and grab both of their hands. Finally she mustered up the courage after the Admiral placed the medal around her neck. This was the proudest moment of her life.

"Thank ye Sir, thank ye so mooch Mister President..." She began. "Ah dinna nae what te say really, ah had this here speech all worked oot in ma head, but noow its all goon te water." One the table next to the dais, there was a stack of cases, all different colours to signify different awards. There was one other blue case as well. That may not be awarded on this day, but Kim saw it. She kept her voice low. "Damn.. Carrie, our Ruby girl is getting the Medal of Honor. But can you see there on the table, there is another one....I wonder?" She left the question on her lips.

Carrie gave the nurse a happy shrug, “Uhu, I see it, beats me who’s getting it though. There were a lot of brave people out that day.”
She shot a look over at Jon’s direction and got a happy smile in return; yeah, he always enjoyed seeing junior officers stepping up and showing themselves worthy the responsibility placed on their shoulders, especially if not a tough fighter pilot or big burly marine…

"Ah was goona say ah don't deserve this, but ah think Sirs, this is noot aboot me. This is a reward fer all the medical corps." She turned around and beckoned Carrie, Kim, Janet and Mike up to join her. "If'n ye don't mind sirs?"

{President Wilson Bomana} NPC

"It is your moment Captain, go ahead and share it." Wilson said. "With my blessing."

"Oh golly!" Ruby shivered with excitement. "Carrie, Doctor Fraiser,  Mike, Kim... please.."

Kim stood there, her hands a little raw from clapping. She to had been bawling her eyes out, but she couldn't move until Carrie did.....

Bowing her head and groaning inwardly, Carrie took a deep breath and led the way up towards the captain, putting up an embarrassed smile as she went. Ever since being very young she’d hated being in the center, her choice of career had forced herself to deal with it, but no matter what, she hated it.
She gave the President and then Sean a nod as she passed them, then when coming up to Ruby, she didn’t care a thing about any protocol and gave the younger woman a warm hug. “Congratulations Ruby. I’m so glad to see you back here,” she whispered before getting over to stand next to Sara and Anne.

Mike took a deep breath, pulled a hand through his hair in an attempt to tame it a bit more, then stood and followed his latest CMO up towards Ruby.
He made a quick stop in front of Davidson, gave him a nod and a "Sir!" before turning towards the President with a , "Mr President" and then without any further delay moved on. The thought of him jusr having been a few feet away form their slowly dawned on him as he moved over towards Ruby, 'You've sure come a long way Mikey-boy'
Mike dug out a fresh handkerchief from his pocket as he went and passed is as discretely as one possibly could when he took her had for a hand shake and gave Ruby a warm smile, “Way to go kid! Congratulations.” then continued to stand next to Carrie.

Sarah couldn't hide a smile that touched her lips when Carrie threw protocol to the wind and hugged Ruby.  Sarah wanted to do the same thing, but she held rank.  "Congratulations," she whispered to her friend.  She could at least do that much.  Ruby was one of her best friends and she wanted her to know how proud she was of Ruby and her medical team.  They had all give up a lot to help people.  And she was also proud of Ruby when she thought to call the rest of the medical team up.  Sarah hid a chuckle though when it was obvious that none of them really wanted to come up front.  They all seemed as unsure as Ruby herself.

After doing five years in a platoon with a Scottsman Gary and Fred knew what to do to remind Ruby of some home roots. They both stood up, as they did Charlotte looked up and George sighed. it was traditional in the british army to make fun of other nationalities, like when you were on tour with the welsh and saw a sheep you shounted "Dont let scouce go near it!" as loaud as you could. but each regiment was differante so George had no idea what his SNCO or his XO would do. all he knew was that the British Ambassador would probobly go along with it. so fred and gary both opened their mouths and sang the first few verses of Donald Where's your trousers. The most scottish song they knew.

I've just come down from the Isle of Skye,
I'm no very big and I'm awful shy,
And the lassies shout when I go by,
"Donald where's your troosers!"

Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low,
Through the streets in my kilt I'll go,
All the lassies shout hello!
Donald where's your troosers!

A Lassie took me to a ball
And it was slippery in the hall
And I was feart that I would fall
Fur I hadnae on ma' troosers!

I've just come down from the Isle of Skye,
I'm no very big and I'm awful shy,
And the lassies shout when I go by,
"Donald where's your troosers!"

Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low,

For a second they both looked at each other smiling and clapping Ruby. to them it wasn't offensive it was a sign that they were proud of her. even though they barely knew her. They then realised what they had just done and in front of whome before sitting down and trying to sink as low as they could in to the chair

Dark blue eyes stared at the two singing figures, his face both incredulous, and crestfallen.  Apparently even more had changed than he'd realized.  He'd witnessed the military comfort and comradely nature of the Base when General Landry was in charge, during his captivity, and O'niell's leadership wasn't known for it's 'brass tacks' as protocol was labeled, but this was just...

He let out a faint breath and put a hand to his brow, fingertips faintly circling as they applied pressure to the center of his forehead, his eyes closing.  Perhaps coming back here hadn't been the best of ideas, if singing was part of the new regime.  All this casual air was more like the failed attempts at blending into modern society, and less like the structured base of operations he'd hoped to return to.

Janet moves to get up scooting forward and then trying to stand but not finding any good postion to do so being 7 and a half months pregnant just as she was about to open her mouth to quietly ask Cal for help Jacob had appeared at her side and helped to pull her to her feet and she nodded her thanks at him as he moved to sit on the other side of Cal as Janet comes up to the front of the room walking over to Ruby nodding and whispering "Congrads Ruby.  Well deserved very well deserved." Then smiling she moves to the side but still standing near Ruby.

Adia and Larkin clapped for their new friends achievement. From their understanding, the Medal of Honor was a great recognition amongst the Tau'ri and from what they heard from around the base, and their brief meeting earlier that day, it couldn't have happened to a better person. They were going to be proud to call her friend.

Having taken his keys from Walter and moved to his seat, Robert frowned. He hadn't expected to see Anne here. It was true he'd seen more of her than most; following what he now believed to be Catherine's death - though he remained optimistic in his mother-in-law's presence - he'd been helping out as much as possible at the MacGregor's ranch. His duties here kept him just as busy and, if he were being perfectly honest, he found work was a much needed distraction from what was the inevitable truth.

El Aenir weapons technology was advanced - and any breakthroughs he could pass across Admiral Davidson's desk would certainly be welcome, as the Empire's rivaled that of the Ancients themselves. He'd been onboard one of their Javelins - Tal Tenebrae - and seen firsthand the resources the El Aenir commanded. More frighteningly, he had this bad feeling that they weren't quite done with him; that, through all of this, their paths had become entwined. That maybe they thought to use him further. He couldn't help but shiver.

But he hadn't been able to dwell on Anne's sudden appearance and, while he didn't he want to think about what the Empire had planned next, the contingent on stage presented Captain Forster with the Medal of Honor. Despite the great accomplishment, a sign of her bravery, he found it hard to concentrate on the awards ceremony. There'd be answers to at least some of his questions on Asculae Tena.

Surrounded by friends and yes family, that was how Ruby saw all of the people here at the SGC, her family away from home. She beamed brightly and her rosy Scots cheeks stood out like stop lights. She thanked them one and all with her typical soft voice, barely a whisper to most, took Mike's hanky gladly and wiped her eyes. Her mouth was open as she gathered those closest to her in a group hug, when Walter Harriman came running in through the side door, his face running with sweat. He went straight to the Admiral and the President. Tipping his forehead in a quick salute.

"Pardon me Mister President. Admiral, we have a situation. SG Seven sir." That was all he needed to say.

Wilson looked at the little man who he knew well and frowned. "Don't have to say much else Chief. I think we should carry this on at a more opportune time. Admiral, looks like our ceremony will be cut short."

McKay did the polite thing, clapping when everyone else did, and generally going along. He couldn't partaske in the quiet chatter going on around him since nobody from Atlantis was here, and he didn't know these peoples names. Hardly his fault. They were gung ho military types, and he was a scientist. So he wouldn't say he was disappointed when the President called the gathering to an early end. Now he could get back to doing useful, beneficial projects.

Getting back to work on his datapad, he left the room, en route to the science labs and what he had been doing before.

Lt Gen. Jack O'Neill, USAF (NPC)
Secretary of the Navy Ramon Mobius (NPC)
Secretary of Defense Richard Gates III (NPC)

When Sean dropped his hand, he silently viewed everyone's reaction.  Sarah was fighting back the desire to hug her friend and squadmate, but settled for a smile on her lips.  Tears were forming in Ruby's eyes, unsure of what to say but instead settled on inviting some of the medical corps up onto the platform.  Major Sutton came up, as did Captain Jaworski and Doctors Fraiser and Svensson.  Sean returned Mike's nod as he moved to step out of the way, allowing the others to join Ruby, but by the time he returned to his spot next to Jack he heard Colonel Sanderson and Major Rivers chanting some type of song that he wasn't overly familar with.  He merely closed his eyes and shook his head, allowing it to stand for now, knowing he could always rake both Brits over the coals later.  Opening his eyes again, he caught sight of someone he didn't quite know displaying obvious signs of utter amazement that there was a lack of discipline and protocol.  At least someone feels the same way, Sean thought to himself.

Robert, Sean noted, was a bit distracted as if his thoughts were elsewhere.  Jack, too, said nothing, but gave a silent disapproving look to Sean when the two British soldiers started to act up.  Luckily, the timely arrival of Walter gave the admiral an opportunity to regain control of the situation.  As Walter approached, Sean and Jack both stepped forward.

{President Wilson Bomana} NPC
{CMS Walter Harriman} NPC

...Walter Harriman came running in through the side door, his face running with sweat.

((TAG: George, Sarah, Donavan, any SG Team Leaders present in the room))

Sean nodded at Walter.  "Thank you, Walter."  He then turned to look at the President.  "Aye, sir.  If you'll excuse me, I have work to do."  Nodding at one of his aides, the young airman raised the boatswain's whistle to his lips and sounded the familiar three-toned whistle, catching everyone's attention.  Sean waited for all eyes to focus on him before he spoke aloud. "Pardon the interruption, ladies and gentlemen, but we have a situation that's been brought to my attention involving one of our teams.  Colonel Sanderson," he looked at George, "Major Devlin," he looked at Sarah, then turned to look at the audience.  "You two are with me.  Team leaders, have your teams on standby but otherwise report to the briefing room outside my office immediately."  His attention then turned to the one person clad in a dark-colored BDU without any name tapes, but clearly he was attached to the military in some fashion otherwise Sean wouldn't have picked him out from the crowd.  "You're to report as well.  The rest of you, you're dismissed but otherwise it's back to business as usual."

Two of the Service Secretaries - Secretary of the Navy Ramon Mobius, and Secretary of Defense Richard Gates III both looked at each other when Sean made his announcement, but only exchanged nods.  They along with the Secretary of the Air Force had already agreed upon a plan of action regarding the Stargate Program's commanding officer, but this sudden change of events meant those plans would have to be altered accordingly.  "Go talk to him, Ramon," said Secretary Gates.  "Go talk to him and Major Devlin both.  Make sure they understand the consequences of their actions, but do it in private.  Can't let word of this get out to anyone else.  Jack already knows but he's been told to keep his mouth shut."  With that, he got up and headed towards the back to meet with some of the other dignitaries.  Secretary Mobius got up and stopped short of the platform, merely looking at Sean with a meaningful look in his eye.

Sean's face paled, but knew why Mobius was here.  He turned to Sarah, then jerked his head towards the elevator before starting off in that direction.  Jack caught Mobius' eye and nodded at him, then fell in step with the Service Secretary.

Sarah let protocol drop as Ruby hugged all her friends.  A single tear slid down her cheek as she hugged her friend.  "You deserve this, Ruby," she whispered before Harriman came rushing in.  Sarah backed up a step, wondering what was going on.  Harriman looked frazzled and it was easy to see whatever it was wasn't good.

Sarah nodded as Sean took command once again.  So much for Ruby's ceremony.  She would find her friend later and actually talk to her.  Right now there were more pressing matters.  Although she didn't know just what yet as she had missed Harriman's words to Sean and the President.  She simply untangled herself from the group and fell in step with Sean and the others.

The major caught the slight paling of her commanding officer's face and started to worry a bit.  She picked up her pace to follow Sean to the elevator.  Something was going down and she felt totally out of the loop as to what.

George also ran off following the Admiral meaning to apologise for Fred and Gary, although he saw the two official looking people sharing words. he walked past trying to listen in, but wasn't able to, So carried on catching up with the Admiral and the Major. Fred sighed reallising he didnt have a team.
"God damn it." he sighed as he turned and walked over to Adia and Larkin pointing at both of them.
"Would either of you like to join an SG team?" he asked setting his jaw and thinking for a moment. He waited for thier reply before legging it to his room. whilst everybody was running around Charlotte ran over to Captain Huges.
"Sir." she asked smiling a little before asking.
"Orders sir?"

"SG-8, full gear prep, be ready to make tracks in ten mikes," Harley said to her team, heading to her own room to change out of her dress uniform before reporting to the briefing room.

Harly was more shouting after her marines as they raced from the briefing room. Emergencies ussually meant combat, and combat meant SG-8. Most of them had asspirations beyond being front line grunts on the fringes of the galaxy, but for the time being, this is what they lived for.

Blinked faintly when the Admiral pointed at him, and automatically rose to his feet, glancing around briefly for orientation as people scattered like a "Bouncing Bettie", and a corner of his mouth quirked at the odd mental comparison.  Pushing his chair into place, he left his name tag face down on the table where he'd been sitting.  No need to alert or alarm anyone, just in case anyone knew him who he didn't know.  Word traveled fast in the SGC, he did remember that much, and with so much gossiping, it was hard to imagine anyone not knowing who everyone else was.

In short order he found the direction he needed to go, and rounded the table's edge, pausing at the doorway to the elevator to allow Sarah to enter the elevator before him, giving a faint incline of his head before following shortly after.

Walter did as he always did and quietly disappeared, he would have to follow up the Admiral first to see what his reply to Mead would be. Wilson looked a little disappointed as did his kids, but the show must go on.

"As much as I would wish for this lovely gathering of our Heroes to continue, I think it would be best Ruby if we take a rain check on the rest of the proceedings." He said just a little glumly.

"Aye sir. We've all got jobs te do in these things. Ah mean Mister President sir, its disappointing, but thets life ain't it?" She told him with a beaming smile and dry eyes.

Kim agreed nodding her head. If a team was in danger, the med bay would need to be on stand by. "Thank you Mister President." She looked around, only Anne and Janet were senior to her and they were Doctors, so she would have the say here in this case. "If I may sir?'

"Go ahead Major."

Kim turned around to face those still there, with her overly loud southern drawl she gave the order. "To your posts and stations everyone. Medical teams report to medbay. Dismiss!"

Cheryl followed up with her own orders. "Security detail report to the gate room stat!" And she was off as everyone began filing out in an orderly but hurried manner

NPC LtC Jonathan Brown.

‘Just another day at the office,’ Carrie sighed. Sometimes she really wished she was back at the ER Colorado Springs Memorial; though tough, it wasn’t even close to this roller coaster.
She looked over at Kim, “Thank you. I’ll head down to the briefing room to find out what kind of mess we can expect this time. See you down stairs,” before turning towards Anne, “I’m sorry about earlier… But no matter what, I’m really glad to see you back here, even if only for a visit. I’m sorry, but I really need to run.”
She felt bad for leaving just like that and the guilty conscience burned in her stomach, but hoped that Anne would understand her hasty retreat from the room, given the circumstances.

As Carrie moved towards the elevator, Jon came up along side of her, with a teasing look on his face, “You’re really cute you blush and get that deer caught in head light look, you know that?”
“Gee, thank you. Love you too!” She swiped her card and pushed the button, “Lunch?”
Jon nodded “Sure, depends on you I guess. My papers can always be put on hold, your clients, rarely.”
“Yeah, there is that little catch,” Carrie grimaced. “I’ll try and send you a message when I know more.”
The elevator arrived with a ping and the doors opened.
Carrie shot a fast look around them, then reached up and gave Jon a swift kiss on the cheek before ducking in to the cart and pressed the 21 button.
Jon sighed but she could swear there were an amused twinkle in his eye, “You never really learn, do you?”
Carrie gave him a happy smile, “Nope,” and then the doors slid shut.

Mike didn’t hesitate a second when Kim shouted the orders, in fact he was already half way down the platform as soon as the Admiral has stopped talking. An SG-team in trouble usually meant work in some form for the medical team; anything from virus to attached alien life forms or just the good ol’ GSW.
No matter what, it was all hand on deck…

Avoiding the cluttering of people by the elevators, Mike took the stairs down to his quarters, three flights down. It required a bit more energy, but at this point it was worth the effort of not being held up. At least running down stairs wasn’t as physical as running up…

Silvia sat down with the others in the last row of chairs, a bit amazed at the President's speech: she expected more seriousness and formality, but she didn't make a problem about that.

When the Medal of Honor was awarded to Capt. Forster, she clapped heartily, and nodded in approval: her cousin, Cap. Tommy Raimondi, served on the Hammond, and told her how amazing everyone was in that medbay, especially Ruby.

Then, noormal life at the SGC as she quickly learnt, an off-world emergency interrupted the ceremony. She sighed, and in the chaos she noticed McKay happily slipping away, surely to the labs. Or the mess hall.
She slapped her forehead: "I almost forgot, Lee's not here!" Silvia said to herself. "It's the lab... and a disaster....."
She shook her head and followed him to the lab.

Robert snapped into action. They'd lost enough good people already; they didn't need to lose more, if this situation was as dire as it sounded. "Track down the rest of my team, Lieutenant. I want them geared up and ready to move."

Hearing there was an emergency with one of the SG teams Spook jumps up and speeds cautiously around Doctor Fraiser and down the main aisle replying "Cal you better get down to the briefing room soon as you can that way your team has someone there."

Janet walks swiftly down across the room to the side closest to the door to the elevators motioning for Cal to come with her quickly as they may need all hands on duty as possible.  As Janet walks as quickly as her 7 and a half months pregnant body will allow she heads for the elevator which Spook is nicely holding for the two ladies.

Anne was expecting a little more, she did after all have it from a well founded source that Wilson was going to make a very big announcement. The problem though was working within the constraints of the SGC routine, all too often made plans go awry; she had seen that so many times herself. It was though for the best part a proud moment and Ruby's own little speech was a crowning moment for the Stargate Programme medical service; that alone made coming her all the more worthwhile. She didn't expect too much else from her team either, not today, as she had more or less told them to give her some space and that they respected her in doing so made her feel just that more at ease. Carrie's apology caught her by surprise, it wasn't necessary, yet welcomed.

"Think nothing of it Carrie. There is more to life than worrying about the little things." She gripped the other woman's shoulder for a second and then let her go. "I'll go and check in with Janet and then head home dear. You have my number if you need me." After that small moment, Anne watched them go, leaving only herself, Ruby, The President and dignitaries.

"Ruby congratulations dear, you really did deserve this on your own lass. I think we could arrange another smaller ceremony for the others at a more opportune time; don't you Mister President?" It was more of a statement than a question.

"Well, that was fun" Tiff said slightly sarcastic as she got up from her seat.

"I quite enjoyed it actually. It's not everyday the President comes into your workplace... which reminds me, you owe me remember" Roxy spoke with a smug smile.

Tiff tried to look un-amused but her eye's gave her away, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a ten dollar note. "E-are" She handed it to Roxy. "Don't spend it all at once will ya. Right I gotta get to the infirmary" With that Tiff left the room and headed for the infirmary.

Roxy smiled again to herself before standing up and heading straight over to the coffee machine and made a coffee.

SSgt Gary Carter

Gary ran back in fully combat ready and ran up to the two off worlders and held out a SGC tactical vest and zat holster, he had picked up a M4A1 with a ECLEN Sight and a foregrip  from the armoury and a Zat. "Umm, Sorry, Which ever one of you is Adia, the Admiral has assigned you to SG-twelve with me and Major Rivers."

"I am Adia Idasson,"  the blonde Jaffa woman said as she took the vest and weapons from Gary. She then turned to her friend saying, "Take care, my friend."

"You as well," Larkin said and watched her friend depart with the sergeant and she made her way to the briefing room.

Secretary of Defense Richard Gates III (NPC)

Gates was busy talking with some of the other diplomats and dignitaries, and by the time he finished his talks he noted with some small satisfaction that a number of people had left the room, including his subordinate Ramon.  He turned to one foreign diplomat and gave her a quick smile and an apology, then made his way towards the elevator.

<<Sarah to Storage Room>>

Sarah made her way to the 17th level.  She wanted to get things checked on as quickly as possible and get back up to the Briefing Boom.  The young woman looked around the room, wondering just who she needed to talk to.  "Hello?" she called, looking for anyone to ask.  It surprised her that it was so quiet.  Of course a lot of people had gotten called up to the Briefing Boom after SG-7 had been captured.

Sarah walked around the room.  She knew there had to be at least one person down here.  She knew where to get the stars for Caldwell, but she needed to actually talk to someone to see if the cargo for Saggita was ready or not.    Sean would be expecting a quick answer on that and she didn't want to waste any time.

They chatted as they walked to the elevators, idle chat as girls do. Nothing had changed in that department. Trouble was, she knew Jen was going to pull the big sister act, it was bad enough with Sarah and the Admiral doing the 'fill in parent thing for the General'. She sincerely wished her father had been a motor mechanic or something, rather than being one of the Air Forces top brass in the Pentagon; so naturally she lied, with a grin of course. "I got a decent 8 hours sleep before my shift, at least that." More like 3 hours and a dozen cans of Red Bull she keeps in her stash.

They exited on the level, Cheryl leading the way. "So, is 'he' still being an A-hole in your life?" She asked, not that it was her business of course, but then she had confided all to often of her failed match ups, all 3 of them.

Jen really didn't believe Cheryl, but it wasn't like she could tell the lieutenant what to do. She'd turned away from that idea ten years ago. "You can tell, huh? Tell me, I'm still pretty young as a military wife, how long does it take for a command to know that the civilian cops got called to your house?" She sighed, she didn't want to talk about it, but she just had to vent.

"Remember me mentioning that office party Paul was taking me to? All freaking night, Paul's junior officers couldn't so much as say 'hello' to me without being glared at. You're a junior officer, imagine trying to have an innocent conversation with a civilian husband about your age, while the person who writes your officer evaluation reports is glaring at you because you have 'the audacity' to speak to her husband." Jen pushed her braid back behind her.

"Anyway, we fought about it when we got home. It's just Paul being Paul again, it'll blow over like it always does and he'll do some romantic and nice thing for me when I get home from the Mountain to make up for it like he always does. So let's try to find out more about this bug before we jump into the lion's den." She twisted her heavy wedding set as they reached the bunker.

<Command Bunker>

They had reached the door, protocol dictated Cheryl buzz before she used her card on the lock and she was a strictler for that. She did so, then a moment later the door unlocked with a 'click' after her card was swiped.  "Jones, Malloy, take a break guys."  She told the two Security Marines on duty. One of them, Tom Malloy was an old hand, 30 odd years in the Marines, the last 4 on Atlantis, this was R&R for him now.

"You sure Eltee? Shouldn't you be getting some bunk time now?" He asked suspiciously.

"I'm sure, we're just going to check Walter's logs is all, nothing serious Sarg." There was no harm in that, it was her job after all.

The younger man, Airman Kyle Jones was skepitcal, by younger, he was still a few years on her. "Why don't you just ask the Chief?" He said, then looked at the CCTV screens, saw clearly who was in the Control room and nodded in understanding. "Right, you don't want either Caldwell or MacGregor to order you to bed. Okay, we're going." He told her getting up from his chair.

"Thirty minutes Leiutenant, no more understand?" He left his position, following smartly after his Airman. "Doctor Stevens." He said politely to Jen as they left. "Please make sure this Barracks brat gets to bed soon, or it will be on my head if I have to explain to our new Security CO." With that, he tapped his forehead and the two of them went in search of coffee.

Cheryl turned to Jen the moment they left. "Do I look like a kid or something?" She asked then countered. "Don't answer that, I know what you're going to say." Hell even Walter had trouble remembering she wasn't a teenager any longer, and there were those who constantly thought she was a visiting ROTC kid. She couldn't help it if she had young genes. "So, in answer to your question, knowing the spooks as I do, about no less than 15 minutes. We're tapped, perved on, watched and observed 24 hours a day. God, I love my country Jen, but we are so paranoid...but I guess with all that's happened, its with good reason." She took a warm chair, it reminded her of a documentary she saw on submarines, where crew shared bunks. They called it 'hot racking'.

She pushed her hair back with her fingers, studied her bestie for a moment, then leaned on her elbow. "You know what? If I were in that situation, I would have given him or her the middle finger and not cared a damn. My dad taught me that, even if a superior officer is involved, don't let the turkeys get to you. You should have called me...well you know, if I could I would have been there for you. Geez I hate people who have their nose up their arse." Cheryl was quite contrary to her private school education. As sweet and as nice as she was most of the time, she wasn't anyone's fool either. "I'd go on strike if I were you....you know what I mean." She didn't have to say it, a common ploy for women and girls to make their men realise who holds the master key.

"Okay, lets do this." That aside, she began calling up Walters conversation logs with Zulu. "Oy, this is bad. Not that they said much, but I mean look Jen, less than a few hours for the whole station to be infected, the Commander calling for help and the last thing we know, is SG4 and Colonel Sheppard is sent to help. Only 12 survivors but nothing else. We really need to contact the Dread. I think they need all the help they can get." Even if it was from a pay clerk and the smartest Biologist she knew on Earth.

"I probably look as much like a kid as you do, Cheryl, but don't mind me, I try to mommy everyone anyway." On Cheryl's answer, Jen flicked her braid. "Paul's problem, not mine. I'm sure his command is yelling at him for being on the police blotter for domestic disturbance. Have you ever watched a criminal defense attorney interact with police? It's like circling dogs, never mind."

Jen shoulder-surfed Cheryl, reading the same information. "It can't be natural, no disease in nature is that fast, contagious and lethal. Being that lethal, natural diseases don't do that and get anywhere. Rhinovirus, coronavirus, you know, the common cold, spreads everywhere because it doesn't do much harm to the host. Ebolavirus, doesn't spread far because it's so lethal. Extreme lethality is bad business for a virus to spread, but really good business if you're building a bio-weapon. Nature selects for diseases that can get their hosts to move around and spread them, bio-weapons are selected for kill percentages."

Cheryl didn't even have to look at Jen to know that. She's seen the looks very young trainees have given her, working out at the Academy gym or pool back in Springs, some of those boys were still with the ROTC, and there were a few difficult moments for both of there. Especially the pool; once the two of them, to avoid unwanted attention, gave their best impression of being more than just friends. It was hilarious really, but strangely, for some reason it didn't feel weird in the pretense at all. "I have to admit Jen, you do. If I didn't know you as I do, and guessed at your age, I'd say the same thing people say to me. God! You couldn't be any more than 17 or 18!" That brought a huge smile to her face.

"Those legal guys creep me out honestly. I've seen how they can tear a person down, simple because they can. There was a woman in Springs last year accused of murdering her husband. If it wasn't for the fact she was able to prove she was overseas, she'd be doing time now. But they still crucified her just the same and are trying to pin other crap on her, because they lost. How can people be so callous Jen?"

But they had another problem, one that could virtually wipe out the galaxy. "Colonel Carter is still on maternity leave. But I know for sure she wouldn't hesitate to help. This is way out of my league, but between the two of you....." She left it at that, hoping Jen would pick up her hint. Call the woman now, the fact she is 6 months pregnant with twins would stop her from wanting to save the world. "Replicators!" Cheryl said in shock at the end.

"And yet my guys are always so much older than me, go figure." On the legal story, Jen shrugged. "Well, according to my husband, there's no guilty people, just people without adequate legal representation. He's got one of the highest acquittal rates in the Peterson JAG."

And she saw that part too. That would explain the unnatural lethality. "Replicators. I mean, if it's nanites and not anything actually alive, I don't think I can help too much, Cheryl."

"I get the opposite end of the spectrum, guys who don't even shave!" Cheryl was dead serious on that, older men don't even notice her and guys her age think she's younger, even with shiny new First Lieutenant bars on her shoulder. "That's where we both have a problem Jen, you know Dad thinks the sunshines out of Paul's backside don't you?" He old man's other alter ego was as a former Military Lawyer himself, part of the reason she never really saw eye to eye with him.

"I'll call Sam...I mean Colonel Carter...oh wait...." She remembered something being said and scrolled back through Walter's conversation. "There." She pointed at the screen and highlighted it. "Some kind of organic replicator virus" From Air Commodore Whitfield.

She only sighed. That was the problem sometimes, almost everyone who knew the Stevens' from the outside had such a glowing opinion of her husband. "I would leave calling Colonel Carter to somebody higher in the food chain, avoid the proverbial stuff rolling down hills as much as possible."

She let herself sit down and mused on that. "Organic Replicator? Isn't that an oxymoron? They're machines, not that mechanical and biological systems can't be combined pretty effectively."

Roche got off the elevator and made his way leisurely to the command bunker, depleted coffee in hand, yet himself unwilling to part with it just yet. After all, he might be able to get a refill somewhere. And now he began his rounds, his first inspection as Chief of Security. Which meant, starting with the security offices to make sure everyone was doing their job and everything was in order.

Arriving at the entrance, Roche fumbled about a bit until he removed his key card, and hit the buzzer before sliding it through the card reader. It would have a reciprocal reaction on the other side as he waited patiently for the men on duty to open the door and let him in.

"I wouldn't dream of it Jen. This is getting way out of my comfort zone you know that?" There was one thing keeping an eye on things, it was another subject altogether when you're dealing with an alien entity that had not a lot to do with the everyday security of the base. Of course if this got out of hand, that would change dramatically. ]"Aren't you guys already doing that now? I mean I've read where they are attaching micro machines onto human cells, I didn't think it would be beyond them, the replicators I mean."

Cheryl was thinking of bed right then, she knew she would be in deep poo if the Admiral found out she was double shifting again, but what the hell, this was important. Just then the door buzzer made her head turn; she looked at the auxillary CCTV monitor and saw someone she didn't recognise. She zoomed in on his face, then brought up the facial recognicion software, in seconds she knew who it was, her new boss. ]"We've got company Jen, just a sec." Cheryl left her chair, made for the door, tapped the appropriate keyed buttons, the door then opened with a 'click'. She swung it inwards. ]"Colonel Roche, nice timing sir. I'm Lieutenant Cheryl Brownwell, your very own executive officer, come in please."

Roche waited patiently, wondering what was going on beyond the door that was taking so long. Surely they'd been briefed, and his picture was in the database, no? It'd be an ignoble start to get thrown in the brig because of a bureaucratic error. But no, it opened up a few minutes later, a woman opening the door and introducing herself as Cheryl Brownwell.

"Thank you," Roche replied as he stepped into the room, noting the presence of the other person there as well. First though, he put the name to what he'd read. He hadn't realized the Payroll and Account officer was in his department, much less his executive officer, but it was good to know in a way. Everything was active and functioning, which was good, but there was another person there, whom he didn't know. well, that would have to be addressed.

"And who, may I ask, are you," he asked, the other occupant giving off all the impression of not being military, but rather a civilian. He looked around, noting then the presence, and lack thereof, of the men who were supposed to be on duty here. He inquired as to that as he placed his cup down. "And where are the men who are supposed to be on duty at this time of day?"

"This is Doctor Jennifer Stevens sir, our Life Sciences officer, she has the appropriate clearence." Cheryl had to make sure of that, otherwise she would be in even more strife. Not that she would be, this was business. "Please sir, take a seat, there is something, a rather strange anomaly we're investigating at the moment. I'm not sure if you've been brought up to speed and really I should be in bed. But we, I mean the Doctor and I thought this was urgent enough to pursue." Her team, yes, Malloy and Jones would be back shortly.

"Sergeant Malloy and Airman Jones don't have clearence for this level of inquiry Colonel, so I sent them for coffee. I've suggested to Jen, I mean Doctor Stevens, we place a call to Colonel Carter and bring her in on this, but that's not really my place, it was merely a suggestion sir. I would recommend once Malloy and Jones return, perhaps you and Doctor Stevens take this matter to your office, you can link any information or if you need, communication directly through the Control Room computers sir." God, she thought, the guy looked like her Uncle Roy, of course he wasn't, but he could sure pass for him. She wondered how she would get along with the Colonel, it would be nice to know he was at least as disciplined as herself, to a degree.

Jen stood back up on her introduction, internally wincing at her full first name. It was a cold day in Hell that she liked it and had never felt taken seriously when it was used. Nobody respected a "Jennifer" in her view. "'Jen' is okay, I don't actually demand my title much. I was in my laboratory space a little below when Lieutenant Brownwell came down after her shift and mentioned there'd been a disease outbreak on Zulu Station. This level of contagious and lethal, Colonel, this is going to get much worse before it gets better if containment's been broken even a smidgen. We were trying to verify if anybody was known to have got off Zulu while infected."

She clamped on her nervous behaviors, deliberately refusing to reach for her hair or twist around her wedding set.

Roche nodded as the Doctor was introduced, and he decided to accept the offered excuse for the absence of the men on duty, though there would probably be some changes to that later, that they couldn't actually leave but had to stand outside. What if Brownwell had been one of those...what was it? Oh yes, Goa'uld. What if she had been one of those? Their defenses could be well compromised now. It didn't seem like very sensible security procedure, and it would need fixing.

Given the offered chair, he sat down, looking between the screens, Brownwell, and Stevens in turn. "Very well, what is this anomaly you are investigating, and how does it concern my position as Chief of Security?" To Jen's comment he added. "I was under the impression that we could not check where other Stargates had dialed to without us being there. If they had not gone to Earth, then we would not know, yes?" True, his understanding of how the Stargate worked was basic at best, but he did recall a few things about it.

Maybe it was first day nerves on his behalf, Cheryl would grant him that much. "As Jen explained sir, we have an apparent contagion on Zulu station. The anomaly of it, is that station is supposed to be the most secure facility in the galaxy, we've even limited knowledge of it to a need to know basis. The point is, whether someone may or may not have gotten off, the possibility that this has already began elsewhere can't be discounted."

Cheryl opened up a second monitor in front of the Colonel, brought up the same communication logs she had on her screen so he could see Walter's conversation. "The Dreadnought has been dispatched as has SG4 and Colonel Sheppard with one of his team."

"Of course, that's true, to my understanding. I was looking to see if SG-4 had reported a gate activation since they'd been deployed to the situation." Jen sat herself back down, and as for the need-to know status of Zulu, Jen shrugged at Cheryl.

"This, the initial exposure at least, could have been a complete accident, something brought back from another planet. Is there any report of anything or anyone coming aboard or through the 'gate before the outbreak started? The infection of Patient Zero may have not been an enemy action at all, but the virus itself has to have been created. Natural selection rolls against any virus that kills its hosts this quickly and lethally." Jen leaned over to the reported information.

Roche listened to both of them explain, though he had the feeling that the meaning of his question had been missed by the two of them. It explained their presence here, to be sure, but it didn't explain why they needed him specifically, in his capacity as Chief of Security. They had obviously been engaged in their task before he showed up, so they would have gone ahead with or without him, and what they expected him to do that they couldn't he wasn't sure.

He had a critical eye, and a keen mind for detail. "That may be true, but if it has escaped this Zulu Station, then there is not much I as Chief of Security can do. It is my understanding that there are hundreds of thousands of these 'Stargates', and searching every one could take decades. It may even have left the initial planet it went to by the time we arrive to deal with the problem."

He then turned to the logs itself, wishing he had his reading glasses. "Well, according to these logs, something called an 'Al'kesh' hit your station." He looked over at the two, figuring they had a better idea of the ship and it's capabilities than him. "That must be incredibly unlucky, given how big space is, or so I am told." He scrolled through the logs. "No reports of people leaving the station, but there are people who have gone through to it, as you mentioned." He turned to look at the two again. "This still does not explain what you expect me to do that you cannot do yourselves. The safety of this base isn't in jeopardy as of yet, and that is my primary function and concern."

Not overly curious and that can be a good thing around here, saves a lot of unwanted attention should someone ask you something you really don't want to know about.  "I guess the best I can say at this point as your subordinate Colonel, I'm giving you a heads up, just in case. Like the good General O'Neill often said, and he was quoting the Boy Scouts motto, 'be prepared'. Because in all honesty sir, if the shite hits the fan, the security of this base and indeed Earth will be your main concern. If anything barring a ship tries to get here, it will be through the Stargate."

Cheryl blinked, then looked at Jen, giving her that 'I know something glare'. "Sir, if you don't mind, I really should be hitting the sack. But I would advise, if you would, ask the Admiral to give Colonel Carter a call. One, she will be miffed if she's not told and two, with Jen here and the Colonel working on the problem from the SGC, it would help a lot to those who are at the coal face if you know what I mean." Her look was pleading, it said 'Jen agree with me please'.

He was fully aware that this base was the point of entry for any non ship invasion, but he was also aware that they had this thing called an Iris, so from Roche's point of view, he would be prepared as he could be as matter of course and his job, but unless these zombie things could walk through...what was it again? Tritium or something? they would be relatively fine.

Roche nearly sighed, but didn't. "Thank you for your advice Lieutenant. If the Admiral agrees, and when we have something for Colonel Carter to do besides sit here and wait for news like the rest of us, then I will let her know."

He looked up as the call for him came through on the base comm, earning a quiet swear in French as he reached for his coffee once again. at least he could get a refill now. "You should do that Lieutenant," he said as he rose. "Once the men who are supposed to be on duty get back here. Regulations after all."

That said, he departed for the briefing room, and whatever they needed him for now.

"That went well." Cheryl watched the man leave, turned to Jen, giving her a lopsided grin. "Looks like your stuck with me for a while, at least until the security guys come back. Or, since I am in now way going to sleep now, and to keep out of the way, we could continue this in my room Jen. What do you think?"

Stretching a yawn, Cheryl realised she really needed sleep and she had one other duty to perform before she went to bed. "Jen, I really have to go now, if I get told to go to bed one more time I'll scream. Call me a little later today okay?" She gave her buddy a peck on the cheek and left quietly.

The door to the cells locked with a loud clang, making the boy in the motorized wheelchair start, his eyes were darting in every direction but at the two NID agents who had found him in the park above the Longhorn Restaurant. His VW minibus had been secured on the base, all his gear confiscated and hopefully by now another technical Agent was going through it thoroughly. "You really thought you could get away with this didn't you Nick?" Shirley's accent was back to her normal mid western. "I mean honestly, if you know this much about the organization you would have known we'd be right on top of it didn't you?"

"Yeah I did, I did and you know what agent, I was kinda hoping this is how it would end up. Its like this, what kinda life have I got? What are my chances of reaching my 30th birthday? None, zero, nada. So this was my shot at something." He felt that even if he never got to see his demands met, he'd at least get to see something. After all he'd been hacking into both the Pentagon and more recently the SGC for a while now, he still had an axe hanging over their head and he knew they weren't about to put him to the torch. He felt a bit sorry for Nigel though, but then if they gave him, that poor guy would be free of this world as well.

"Shot at what kid? You don't really think its going to happen do you?" Robert looked over at him, shook his head with a sigh. "Okay look, at least the Admiral will talk to you, that's something isn't it?"

 "Yeah I guess."

Ian made his way straight to the holding cells, and approached the NID agents only once the prisoner was secured, keeping out of sight.

"Alright, who are we dealing with here? More importantly, what has he thrown out that might tell us what he already knows and what he doesn't?"

Both Robert and Shirley snapped to attention, with both of them still in 'military' mode having only been with the NID for less than a year. Although Darnell had served with the NID on and off for a bit longer. The mental state though of them came from the fact both were Naval officers. "Admiral sir, we met briefly at SOCOM, Lieutenant Commander Robert Darnell, I was the Intelligence officer working on the Saddam file." He didn't need to illuminate on that. "My partner here is Lieutenant Shirley Thomas, formerly NCIS. We were recruited directly to the NID I guess for our ability to look like Mr and Mrs Normal, plus our intelligence skills."

Shirl looked at him and like a wife in any suburban house she could tell Ian that men just waffle on far too much. "Ahem, sir. In there..." She jerked her thumb behind her. "...is one Nigel Parks, senior trouble maker and sh*t stirrer with the Colorado Sun, he's worked for just about every other left wing rag on the east coast prior to that including the Washington Post, he was also a speech writer at one time for a certain Senator Kinsey so that pretty much sums up his MO. As for what he's said, you'd need to speak with Colonel Reynolds sir, he shut his mouth straight after we hauled him in." Robert cut in.

"But this little fella I think might be just a little more open Admiral. Nick Freeberg aged 16, who has been ducking school for most of this year haven't you Nick?"

The boy looked up from his wheel chair nonplussed. "Yeah so what, you would to if you were me and knew you had no future. Why the F should I bother with that school crap, I know more than the dumb arsed teachers anyway."

"See what I mean sir?" Robert added.

"Right, well, that would have been information to follow up on. But I've gone in blind before." Ian said, "As for our young man here, orders were to send him to Medical."

He then turned to the kid, "My son mentioned to me a quote from a movie; no fate but what we make, and it's pretty true. Think on that."

McRaven then approached the SF guarding the door, "Open it up, Sergeant."

"Yes, sir."

The door was unlocked and Ian stepped inside, stopping between Nigel and the door while it was secured behind him before approaching him and sitting down. He held the folder in front of him, opening it up as if he was scanning the contents for a moment before closing it, being very careful to avoid revealing the blank printer paper inside.

"Mister Parks. You are being detained for attempting to extort information from US Military personnel, and this carries a fairly significant penalty. And your timing is rather terrible, given that I have to come in here during a very important operation being conducted in the Middle East. So, why don't you explain to me why I shouldn't be assuming a connection between the two, because right now, I've got a first class seat for you on the next C-130 to Cuba, straight to the wonderful Guantanamo Bay." Ian said, and leaned forward with a very serious expression on his face, "And I would advise you that tact means everything to me. So whatever threats you have, let them go right now. I've been threatened by far worse men with far more means than you."

"Sarah Connor...." The boy replied before McRaven left him with the agents. He looked up at the two, his face contorted with some degree of pain. "I..er didn't bring my meds, I..think that's a good idea." He told them in reference to being taken to medical.

Shirley went to the door of the cell, looked through the grill for a moment. "We'll be back Admiral, don't let him BS you with an appeal for mercy, he doesn't deserve it." She stepped back, tapped her partner on the arm before wheeling Nick away.

The old reporter looked up, blinked once or twice in the dim light with nothing but a blank look on his face. "I don't expect much out of this Admiral, in fact I've done what I set out to do really. And as for that phony charge, we both know you'd have a hard time following it up so lets be frank and we can deal. That boy out there is dying, he has about a year maybe two left, his condition worsens everyday, so you might ask what's in it for an old weasel like me?" His hands stretched out on the table, palms upwards. "I have cancer, all my own stupidity of course. Two packs a day for 50 years will do that to anyone, so when the kid called me with his story once I looked into it and him of course I couldn't say no. While I don't expect anything to be done for me, I only ask that he be given a chance for life." You could almost hear the drum roll build up at this point. "He wants to be blended with a Tok'ra and yes he knows there are risks because of his age, he accepts that. Now here is the deal breaker, something I want to give you in return if we can make a deal. You have been briefed on Ba'al I expect?" He left it open for Ian with that revelation.

"Alright. I'll humor you for a moment. But make no mistake, if you're playing me, well, I actually can make good on my threats. Being in Washington for as long as you were, you really should have looked up just what happens when terrorism and national security get thrown around. My opening statement was also part of what's being prepared to go public if you're misleading me." Ian said, "As for the young man, the genie is already out of the bottle, and so he'll go through the same evaluations as anyone else who wants to undergo the process. I'm not going to hold his fate over this discussion, so consider that no longer your problem."

Ian leaned forward, "So. Here's the deal; I've been clear where I've stood from the word go, I expect you to do the same. As it stands, right now, you're looking at your life for the foreseeable future. Best case is that you get to leave but will have your every move, word, and keystroke monitored 24/7/365. The improvement of your situation depends on how much you incline me to recommend as such when I walk out that door to kick this up the chain. Lay your cards on the table, sir."

"Prison would be an uplift on the life I've had over the last two years, if you'd like to call me editor at the Sun, he'll tell you straight. I was put on a month's notice last week. No one else will hire me, not when they know that on the one hand I'm 63 and on the other hand I have cancer. So, I'll be straight up and you can do what you will." He figured at the very least they'd do something for the kid; if they could make that happen Nigel might be able to say that he did the right thing for once in his life. "As you already are aware Ba'al, well the Ba'al you people thought you had aced wasn't the one. Just another clone. You know that and you probably know by now that even though he isn't around Earth much lately...you might know where he is even I guess. Anyway, to make this short he still has assets and personnel here on Earth. I've committed this to memory so I won't be compromised, there is a warehouse in Colombia, 224 Plaza Del Fiego, that along with a rather plush condo on the Riviera, number 127 level 16 Chermin De la Gardiole, about half a mile north of Pointe De Mourett. That's it, oh and I took the liberty to have one of my South American correspondents check out the warehouse, that was a week ago. He said armed patrols guard the joint but they aren't Colombian nor does he think they're even American, so you figure it out."

"Alright. I'm going to verify this information. In the meantime, the young man is already being escorted to our medical department. As for you, I'll make my recommendations but I won't guarantee anything. However, should this prove credible, I'll see what we can do about improving your situation to an agreeable manner. If not, then get comfy." Ian stood up, picking up the folder, "I'll be back shortly, Mister Parks."

He stood up and walked for the door, knocking three times. The Sergeant peered in before unlocking it to let McRaven out and then the door was shut once more and locked. He departed and headed straight for his office.

It was several paces back, around the corner and into the elevator. It took them several levels up before Tilly realized they were going the wrong direction, so she attempted a minor course correction and set them back to the right path toward the stockades. Approaching the doorway, she exhaled a sigh craning her neck to crack her neck bone and lightly urged the prisoner forward, "Here we are. This is where you will stay."

Keeping her posture firm, Tilly made sure to keep a watchful eye to make sure the Goa'uld wouldn't do anything she wouldn't do.

The goa'uld remained silent as he was pushed into the detention cell. He was not new to prisons, he himself had run many decades before, but now he was on the other side of the bars.

"What a feeling of Dejavù ... anyway I will not remain forever closed in this hole, soon I will lick your feet and ask for your life benevolence, but until then ... I will enjoy the wait!" the goa'uld replied, adding a remarkable sarcasm.

Watching the Goa'uld carefully, Tilly sighed. Turning around, she rolled her eyes unamused by his comment and tapped her radio, "Gateroom, this is Sergeant Rose. I delivered our guest to the stockades. I thought I would report in."

Tapping the radio button again to receive only, Tilly focused her attention on the Goa'uld and inquired curiously, "So, we never met. What do you call yourself?"

The goa'uld to that question was silent for a moment thinking of the consequences even of just saying his name, and only after a few minutes answers to Sergeant's question.

"I am Hasahorr, begotten by Queen Satis in the last years that preceded the fall of the Empire at your hands and your soldier?" he finally asked almost gently.

Watching Hasahorr carefully while listening to her radio for any responses, Tilly clicked her radio off. She'd try again later. The time she made her presence known in the gate room, it was bustling and active. When she left with the prisoner, there was the assumption of them being busy. Even the armoury could be tightly fill and congested. It wasn't unusual, but the Kiwi always keeps her guard no matter the circumstance.

"Sergeant Rose. Base security of the SGC.," Tilly finally responded and added, "Dont get too comfortable. Someone will be along shortly..

And That's all you're getting... Tilly's training compartmentalized her feelings into different sections. Her feelings when it comes to her duty. Her duty as a security officer came first when security becomes compromised. In her briefing when it comes with the Goa'uld after reading exploits on the SGC since the first travel through the inter-dimensional portal into different worlds and Colonel O'Neil's first hand experience, the sergeant learned to distrust the snake inside their heads.

You are speaking to the human, but soon as you turn your back, the snake schemes and plots on several ways for you to die.

However, looking at the person on the other end of the locked cage, Tilly hoped this wasn't the case. Keeping her expression stoic and straight, she turned away and left the room to guard the stockade till someone radios her for additional instructions.

Hasahorr made his eyes shine before his voice suddenly cleared. It was the human guest now speaking openly about something that did not go unnoticed.

"You will be destroyed by the Gods, Hasahorr not that an emissary of what awaits you!" he finished by making his eyes sparkle again before returning completely calm again.
