>> From Infirmary >>

A little short of breath, Carrie entered the briefing room. As always, she shot a glance through the windows, down towards the Gate. Even after six months and a few trips through it, she still had a hard time grasping and accepting the idea of being molecularly disintegrated and then reassembled in another part of the galaxy…
As expected given the situation, the iris was up and the light coming from the puddle made the room below them shimmer in a bluish tone.
She put her lap top down in one of the seats facing the gate room opened the lid and with a content smile noted that the update was almost completed so she headed off to the coffee machine and pushed for an ordinary coffee with cream.
Half a minute later she grabbed the mug, savoring its sent as she carefully maneuvered herself back through the crowd and sunk down on her seat.
As Carrie slowly sipped the hot drink, waiting for the briefing to start, she started watching the interaction between the others in the room.

((OOC @ Fred: Ok. I read Kendrall’s post as if Jack had followed Sean in to his office, leaving only Mobius in the Briefing room. Sorry. ))

Lt. Gen. Jack O'Neill, USAF (NPC)
Secretary of the Navy Ramon Mobius (NPC)

Secretary Mobius caught Sarah looking surreptitiously at Sean as the latter retreated into the confines of his office, and shook his head.  He would deal with that later, as there were more pressing matters that needed to be tended to.  The British contigent commander, Colonel George Sanderson, walked up to Jack and informed him that Major Rivers was already in the process of prepping; and if Sean could quickly assemble the rest of his team, Rivers could be ready to extract SG-7.  Mobius was aware of the lack of respect Sean was given from the British Major, and that outburst at the awards ceremony further suggested that their commander wasn't able to maintain order and discipline among his own men.  On the other hand, this particular unit *was* recommended by the Minister of Defence, hence the reason why they were sent here in the first place.

"Thank you, Colonel, for letting me know."  Jack replied to George with a grateful nod of his head.  "But it'll be Admiral Davidson's call on who goes and who stays."  Out of the corner of his eye, Jack thought he saw Donavan's expression go blank for a moment, but quickly recovered.  Elena then walked up to report for duty, and Jack simply nodded at her.  Had it been Sean standing there, he thought (and undoubtedly Mobius was thinking the same thing) he would expect Elena to hold salute until it was returned.  But Jack was more familiar with the Russian officer, hence the nod.  "It's fine, Colonel," he said to her.   He made sure to return Jen's salute and smiled at her.  "Good to see you again, Captain."

Other officers, presumably team leaders, began to file into the room.  Captain Hughes greeted Elena as he entered the room, as did Cam.  Other names started to come back to him, but to Secretary Mobius, they were all unknown. Well, save for three individuals.  Mobius regarded Donavan with a steady gaze, studying the silent Ori.  No name tags, no indication of rank or anything.  Sean will undoubtedly want to talk to the man, he thought to himself.

<<From Commander's Office>>

The door to his office opened up and Sean stepped through it.  He noted that everyone he had ordered to report was present, and he cleared his throat to get everyone's attention.  "Good," he said, "I shouldn't have to do this more than once."  He made his way through the crowded room up to the computer console, and replayed the messages.

"SGC, this is Mead, on Poppa-Fife-Foxtrot-Two-Two-X-Ray. Passcode Sierra-Golf-Seven-Alpha-Mike-Niner-Niner. The Jaffa are under attack by an unknown enemy. Our mission to find out about the Warlord was successful, though the rest of SG-7 has been captured by him. Send a team with tracking capabilities. Position at the gate is tenuous at best. Will hold as best I can till reinforcements arive. How copy, over?"

"Mead this is Harriman...hold as best as you can, find cover... I'll get the Admiral down here asap. He's off radio at the moment..."

He looked at the others.  "Those transmissions were made approximately twenty minutes ago.  We haven't heard anything since from SG-Seven, hence the need to cut our ceremony short."

He then looked at Robert.  "Captain Hughes," he addressed Robert.  "I'm making some changes to your team.  Lieutenant Foster will be replacing Lieutenant Mercy, and I'm moving Lieutenant Summers up to be your new XO.  You'll be shipping out to Asculae Tena as previously discussed to begin your investigation.  I expect you to report in on a timely basis.  Grab your gear and move out."

Looking at Fred, Sean handed him the signed orders.  "Major Rivers, take command of SG-Twelve.  Lieutenant Sheppard will be your XO, and I'm assigning Staff Sergeant Carter to your unit.  One of our two guests whom you escorted earlier to the ceremony will be a suitable candidate as your fourth member.  I believe her name is Miss Idasson, so I'm attaching her to your team."

"I'm sending your team and SG-Eight to Thedif.  It's currently controlled by the Free Jaffa, but there are reports that a rogue individual is beginning to amass power as a warlord.  Your team, along with Lieutenant Lawler's, are to coordinate efforts on the search-and-rescue op, and bring SG-Seven home.  You are authorized to use deadly force if fired upon by unknown or confirmed enemy combatants, and I also expect either you or the Lieutenant to report in on a timely basis.  Grab your gear and move out."

"Captain Darkness," he said to Spook.  "I want you and Miss Caine to find Captain Satterfield.  Have her report immediately."

He then looked at the silent Donavan standing against the wall.  "Colonel Lee," he said to the former Ori.  "I don't believe we've met."  Before he could introduce himself, Mobius interjected.  "He hasn't met me, either."  Mobius held out his hand.  "Ramon Mobius, Secretary of the Navy.  This is Rear Admiral Sean Davidson.  Like you, Colonel, Admiral Davidson was trained in special operations tactics before I sent him here to replace Major General Landry.  Admiral Davidson commanded one of our SEAL teams for a number of years."  Sean waited for Donavan to shake Mobius' hand before he offered his own.  Typically he would wait for the former templar to salute, but the lack of insignia and decor hinted that Donavan was recently discharged, hence the offered handshake.

Col George Sanderson
Mjr Fred Rivers
SSgt Gary Carter

The Colonel turned and patted Fred on the shoulder.
"I gotta go talk to the MOD." He nodded, Fred nodded in return.
"Yeah, go, go." he said as he checked over his weapon's lightly before looking at Lt Lawler
"Left-enant, get your team, all carrying five five six please, I want everybody to be able to share ammo if we get in to a fire fight." seeing as he was the highest ranking officer on the mission he sort of felt at home, leading a search and rescue team in to a combat zone was what he was good at. He then looked at Gary.
"Run to the Armoury, grab a M4 or somthin for that Jaffa woman that the admiral just asigned. then go get her." Gary nodded as he turned and legged it. Fred took anouther breath and walked up to the admiral and asked quietly
"Sir, can I have a word quickly?" he said not looking the man in the eye, showing faint interest in his C8A2 rifle as he flicked the PEQ-4 on and off with his free hand.

The fact that it was fine for her to be a little late sounding from Jack himself lifted all the worries for a moment from her soul and the woman made her way to stand next to Hughes. She would of course salute to the superiours, but old habits die hard, not saying about regulations. Lena couldn't force herself to salute without headwear on, and it was forbidden to wear one in a room unless it was combat situation. Since O'Neill worked more with Russians than probably anyone else in here, he surely knew that little bit. And most of the others she served with at SGC prior to this day were used to that as well, but nearly every newcomer would raise an eyebrow in curiosity.

"It's good to see you too, Robert... Hope the life is treating you well..."

Elena shut up as Sean returned to the room and she patiently listened to what he had to say. A sarcastic thought couldn't escape her mind that for a change it wasn't her SG-4 stuck in some craphole, waiting for help. But she wasn't also the only one with a promotion and snook that knowing peek and grin at her friend that lasted for merely a second before she looked at Sean again. Anyway, what would her team be doing then? She looked around, noticing that there were a lot of new people she never met before in the briefing room.

When he was directly addressed, disbanded or not, the habit was to come to attention, which he did.  He listened to the secretary but his eyes were on Sean, as if giving him the attention even with the other man talking.  When the SoN offered his hand, at first the former Templar simply looked at it, then remembered the custom, and took the man's wrist out of even older Celstus habit.  Something about the secretary set off his internal warning signs, and so the grip was brief, only enough to acknowledge it.

When the Admiral offered his hand, Donovan again paused, torn between custom and protocol.  In the end he settled for both; he gave a loose brief salute with a murmured 'Admiral', and then shook the man's hand by the wrist.  Once all that was out of the way he re assumed at-ease posture and stared at first the Secretary, then back at the Admiral.

"Ever since arrival I've been told 'we've been expecting you'."  He let the speculation and confusion he felt be audible. "I didn't know I'd be here myself until a few days when I began walking... If it's not out of line, Sir," addressing the Admiral directly once more, "if I'm expected, why then were you uninformed of my arrival?"

Another faction he was unfortunately familiar with among the Tau'ri, was their Central Intelligence.  Ever since he stepped foot outside the SGC complex, they'd been a presence in his life; watching his habits, if he bothered to form any, noting who he talked to, later pulling them aside to ask what he talked about, places he went always had at least one suspicious character doing something that seemed mundane, but in the wrong manner.  He wondered then, if he'd not actually chosen to come here, but somehow that group had manipulated his choices to the point where he'd been directed here.  He wouldn't be surprised to learn they'd scrapped Detachment One because he was involved.

Since it seemed like everyone was still coming in and Sean hadn't returned yet Sarah slipped away briefly to get her customary cream and sugar coffee and grabbed Sean a mug as well.  She had a feeling they were going to need the caffeine as this didn't sound like an easy operation.  She hadn't noticed Mobius watching her though as she stepped out.

She managed to return before Sean did and took up her place against the wall.  She listened to each team that he assigned, figuring she had better keep good mental notes.  The warm coffee in her hands was keeping her at least from being too jittery with so many people around.

Once Sean had addressed all the team she stepped up to him to offer him his coffee, but then he called Donovan up and the major stepped back.  She knew better then to go against protocol.  She could wait.  The coffee wasn't going to go cold that fast.

{LT USMC Harley Lawler SG-8}

Harley frowned a little. Sticking a bunch of British Army grunts on this expedition was somewhat bothersome for breaking up the continuity of her combat team, but more importantly she had two ranking officer with her that she just knew would cause more trouble then they were worth.

"Major, I have two men with 240-Bravos wich carry a 7.62mm. I'm not about to lose that kind of firepower just so we have more peas for our pea shooters. SG-8 will be carrying a double combat load of ammunition though. We should be home before dinner. If you would like to discuss this further, I have to tell my team their loadout and get us down to the gateroom. I would be glad to discuss it on the move."

Harley waited for his answer, so as not to be disrespectful, and then left, making a bee-line for the armory.

Mjr Fred Rivers

Fred, still standing over by the admiral trying to get a word in before he assembled in the gate room, looked at the Lt a little blankly then nodded. "That works, actually that works much better than my idea." she then said they would be home before dinner and he shrugged a little bit. "In my experience, the only time a search and rescue op ends that quickly is when you arrive and the targets are dead on arrival. When we assemble in the gate room we'll have a chat about who's doing what, ok?" he said nodding a little as he turned back to the admiral and waited to be recognised, how ever he was stuck behind Ramon Mobius, he didn't care what he was in the Navy, the man was in his way, and Fred wanted to get going inside the next half hour, and that was his worst Embarkation time.

Lt. Gen. Jack O'Neill, USAF (NPC)
Secretary of the Navy Ramon Mobius (NPC)

Mjr Fred Rivers

"Sir, can I have a word quickly?"

"Make it fast, Major," Sean replied.   He knew that Elena would no doubt be wondering what her team's assignment was, if any.  SG-4 specialized in covert operations, and the admiral was about to issue his set of orders to her before Donavan spoke up, wondering why he had been told he was expected but was surprised to learn that Sean had no knowledge of his pending arrival.  Shaking his head, the former SEAL indicated he indeed had no idea.  "Colonel, if I had a dollar for every time I asked why I was shipped somewhere and the local commanding officer had no knowledge I was coming, I'd be a rich man by now.  I learned that lesson the hard way a few times when I was still a member of the SEALs, well before I was given my own team to command."

Secretary Mobius watched the facial expression Lieutenant Lawler made when she was told she would be working with Major Rivers, and merely looked at her as if she needed to get used to working with their British counterparts.  Lawler informed Major Rivers about what she would be bringing, then left the room.  Fred turned back to look at Sean, as if waiting to be recognized, but it seemed as if he didn't appreciate Mobius being present in the room.  Sean caught on, then gave the British officer his full attention.

((OOC: Don't keep Mobius waiting too long, he has something important to say to Sean - and Sarah - in private.  It's never wise to keep a high ranking official waiting, especially when he's basically the one who oversees *everything* in both the US Navy and United States Marine Corps.))

Carrie pulled up the team rosters and started to make a head count, ‘Missing team is SG-7, four people. Hughes, that’ll be SG4 – another four people. SG12 four as well and SG8 is… Wow, they’re seven!’ Her finger tracked the list, ‘That’ll be…’ She slipped a sigh and mumbled, “5 teams and nineteen people in a total,” not even remembering if they’d ever had that many people out at the same time.

The CMO leaned back in her chair and sipped her coffee; if they all came back unharmed, ‘And when did that ever happen?!’ asked a small voice in the back of her head, the post-mission check-ups would be a logistic nightmare. If they came back in need of more medical care than that – Carrie frowned, but then pushed that thought away for now. She’d have to take that up with Kim once she sat down with her in the infirmary; ‘Logistics is after all more her thing than mine’.

Robert shrugged at Elena. Well enough, he supposed, after sixth months. But some wounds time didn't heal - not ever.

He continued to remain distant until he gave his CO a grateful nod as SG-9 was issued its first formal set of orders under his command. It'd sounded promising back in Admiral Davidson's office, but actually being given the word to conduct the search for Catherine was welcome. But why the change in personnel? The admiral must have had a reason, but it had him puzzled, so soon after the team's formation. He pushed the thought aside.

"We'll find her, sir." the captain replied on his way out. "Or at least find out what happened to her."

As he stepped into the hallway, and located one of the SFs on duty, he asked for the airman's radio and tapped to talk. "Lieutenant Foster, Captain Hughes. Meet me in the armory immediately - and be ready to move out."

Mjr Fred Rivers

Fred saw the way that Secretary of the Navy Ramon Mobius had been looking at him and didnt like it so subtly scratched the inside of his nose with his middle finger making sure it was pointed at the man before lowering his hand and speaking to the Admirial
"Sir I wanted to first of apologise for mine and garys actions before, we were a bit caught up in the celabrations and, anyway we are sorry." he then took a breath and asked the main thing on his mind. "And sir with the greatest due respect I would like you to make SG eight a reserve unit for this operation. I cant handle eight marines and my own team on a search and rescue mission, it dosnt work sir, trust me, i was a team leader in the UKSF search and Rescue unit. more people on the ground make it harder. Unless you want me to tell most of them to sit on their hands." He shrugged. then added. "Basically sir, I appreciate the help but we don't need all of them."

The moment other people started clamoring up for the Admiral and SecNav's attention, Donavan took a discrete half step back and resumed the at-ease posture near the wall, observing with some incredulity as the other man questioned his orders, not just in public view, but in view of both higher and lower ranking officers.  He recalled his training, in both galaxies, and couldn't recall ever seeing such blatant disregard for authority.  He was confused as the man's actions, his body language and tone were completely contradictory to what he was saying.

He didn't correct either the SecNav or Admiral's use of his former rank, unassuming he'd re-enlist at the same level he was disbanded from the D1 task force.  He didn't like being handed anything he didn't feel he'd earned the right to claim.  The same would hold true here; if they expected him to assume his former rank, he'd expect them to run him through all the required qualifications, and if they didn't, well he'd just go do it himself.

{Colonel Cam Mitchell}

Cam listened intently and still found himself wondering what he was doing here. With a sharp intake of breath, Cam made his way over to the Admiral.

Admiral Davidson if I may have moment of your time.  Colonel Cameron Mitchell, formerly of SG-1 Sir. I've been on leave and am just returning to duty."

Cam held out his hand.
