"No one is innocent on that score Katrina. I had to spend the better part of my teenage years lying just to keep out of trouble...yeah its a long story that one." Abi wasn't overly proud of what she got up to as a kid, but at least she unlike many of her peers made something of herself.

Her companions wit was sharp and much like her own, a rare commodity these days. People tended to be too stupid to be funny, or forced, or simply just wooden boards without a funny bone in existence; she had to laugh at the reply. "You'll do well, especially around your teammates. I've heard some rather hilarious stories concerning SG4, not that I believe them all, you know how rumors tend to get stretched from the source to the end."

Quite surprisingly they had made a good pace of it, soon they were near the summit and the little cabin there by the trees. They might well have to make use of it to, as a cold wind started blowing from the North. "Hungry...yeah I know we ate not long ago, but this trek does take it out of you."

“Anyone who didn’t spend some part of their teenage years telling lies is either a miracle worker, someone with great power over everyone around them or still a liar.” Even if it was just something as small as eating the last cookie - okay, maybe that wasn’t so small - lying happened. And it didn’t stop when you became an adult.

Katrina’s brow creased at the mention of funny stories. Whatever they were, she'd have to see if she could squeeze a few of them out of her teammates (providing they knew). “Sometimes I wonder when someone changed the story, or the rumor, and why they did. Were they bored? Did they want to impress a friend who’d spent too long in the infirmary and was out of the loop? Were they tired or drunk, and just decided to set the crazy train running?”

What would normally have seemed a much longer journey felt somewhat shorter with company, and interesting company at that. She let a shiver pass through her, kept going and nodded at Abi’s mention of hunger. “You’re right... My stomach agrees with you anyway. Are we stopping at the cabin?”

"The cops in our area had anyone under 21 years of age targeted on a permanent basis when I was a kid and I mean from about 12 years old and upwards." She was going to keep this short and sweet, if for no other reason than to let Katrina into a small insight of Abi's life. "It didn't matter how clean you were, those apes just saw every kid as a delinquent or worse. They hit on you and would go out of their way to make your life miserable and drum up a list of crimes you committed, from burglary, car jacking, purse snatching right down to grafiti. The last was my foible I have to admit. But the problem was Katrina, sometimes you had to lie like Satan to clear yourself of other things they accused you of simply so that your parents didn't know where you might have been when you weren't supposed to be." Often she was at illegal street racing and her dear mom and dad would have grounded her for life if they knew that.

When the other topic was touched she had to smile. "You would not believe how the stories about General O'Neill have grown over time. To such a degree that the untruths have replaced the truth in some circles and they'll argue black and blue over it." That made her giggle, most of those tales surrounded his injuries and only the medical staff knew the truth of it.

"We should, for two reasons. One because I am starving and two because of that."
She gently turned Katrina around, being careful of her shoulder and pointed her west. The largest and ugliest blue/black thunderhead was rolling very quickly towards them and you could clearly see the water funnels extending downwards from it. "Come on." She said, fishing a key from her pocket as she mounted the veranda, then slipped the key into the door.

{Lukas Sadorav, LMT, Chaplain assistant}

((OOC: LMT = licensed massage therapist))

While Fran and Robert were reliving old times in the chapel, a Ford F350 pulled up to the main gate.  This massive truck had what appeared to be an equally massive man behind the wheel, and indeed a vehicle like the F350 was the smallest vehicle capable of accommodating his gargantuan size.  This man looked to be able to outsize even Teal'c and very likely win against him in a sparring match.  He also had a long thin scar on one side of his face and more currently unseen ones on his back, courtesy of his time spent in KGB-run labor camps.  Most people meeting him for the first time had trouble believing that he was a licensed massage therapist as they thought he'd never be able to control that much strength to the extent that he could give a good massage without breaking anybody's bones.  But he learned many years ago how to harness and control his great strength when Robert took him in at his home parish's orphanage and taught him as much martial arts as he could.  "Lukas Sadorav," he said to the person at the main gate with a slight Russian accent, presenting his visitor's pass.

{Staff Sergeant Dillon Trask} - NPC

Summer was always the most pleasurable time to be on gate duty, today being no different with a slight breeze blowing from the north west, making what could have been a rather hot afternoon bearable. When the pick up entered the boom gate, Dillon was already on the hard stand with his clip board in hand. He checked the fellow's ID card, ran up a quick check on his PDA, which gave him a positive approval. "Car park 3E sir, straight down the tunnel and second on your left. You'll need to have security to escort you to the Chapel from there." He noted the man's size, not a guy he'd want to tangle with for sure, yet someone who perhaps would be good to have your side if things got squirrely.

{Random SF} - NPC

"Thank you," he said kindly to the guard as he went through the now open gate to the appropriate space.  He decided to leave his luggage for now and unpack later.  He stepped out of his truck and waited patiently for security to escort him to level 21 so he could meet up with the chaplain ((OOC: Fran)) and also his friend, Fr. Robert.  A random SF came and escorted him to level 21 via the elevator.

<<from US Air Force Academy Hospital~Colorado Springs>>

Jon drove like he piloted (like he used to pilot, hadn't gotten his hand on the stick of a jet in far, far too long), breathlessly fast and with complete control. They made it up the Mountain in good time, and then they had to slow down at the gate so the airmen at the security checkpoint could verify their identities.

Jon rolled up to the guard station, the familiarity of it all hitting him with nostalgia and a dull ache and other emotions he didn't care to name. He rolled down his window, reached into his pocket for his ID, nodded at Kim for her to find hers.

Then he flashed his credentials at the airman, letting the kid take in his uniform and his branch of service, his rank.

He smiled the smile that had driven innumerable superior officers insane with frustration.

"I solemnly swear I am up to no good." Relearning a new generation's idioms and cultural schema had been hard work, but he'd done more than his fair share of black ops and spec ops back in the day, knew how to sell a cover.

His life was his new identity and cover all in one.

Some days the performance was exhausting. That he'd been able to be himself, however briefly, with the Old Guy and Sam, was a welcome blessing.

The other guys and gals in his old unit had just chalked it up to him being weird. He'd told them vague tales about being raised by his grandparents. Covered all manner of cultural missteps.

"They were impressed Jon, you could see that on their pimply teenage faces." Well they weren't quite teenagers, nor did they sport any visible pimples either, Kim was just creating an impression of feigned awe. Typically the SF's at the gate were nonplussed, except one particular sergeant who had been with the SGC almost as long as Kim herself had been. He at least stayed in his little hut, making faces with his obvious recognition of Jon with an added almost sleazy grin at her. She had knocked back at least a dozen date invites from the man. It was his two younger companions though who stood at the gate side checking ID's , mostly the one who did the actual checking she had cause to giggle about. When he looked into the truck (he had to stand on his toes) the young man appeared to be more than surprised. Whether it was merely seeing the Marine driving the old Ford, or seeing the base Chief Nursing Officer with him she couldn't tell. Hopefully he wasn't think she was Jon's mother. God forbid.

"Jon, I knew that the moment Sam dropped you off at my place eight years ago, nothing new there kiddo." She nodded her head forwards. "I suppose you won't be needed directions to the carpark will you? So that being as it is, once we get there you'll need to report to the CO and I'll go sign in. After that I will be seeing you again soon to give you a brand spanking new subcutaneous transmitter. Won't that be fun?" Even with her head facing to the front, her mischievous grin was undeniable.

"Yes, getting lo-jacked like a fancy car or a prize purse-dog is very flattering and exciting indeed." Jon parked the car and headed for the doors. First stop, CO's office.

<<From Accommodations Hallways and Elevators>>

Jon followed Bryan and Ferrett to a shiny green Chevy Tahoe.

"Nice wheels. I like a nice cold brew now and again, but it seems like it'd be bad form, to get blackout drunk around brand new teammates."

"A drunk? Oh no Bry not that, but you have been known to um...can we change the subject?" The woman couldn't help but blush, for she recalled those days back in LA when the two of them were running with illegal street racers, they were so young she could never have imagined for a moment back then she would go through such a dramatic change. But ah yes, Bryan and beer, that was the focus of her memory; he was such a stud! It made her add a giggle to the blush.

"To be precise...and thanks to by the way, first names off duty always seems right. Although there are some..." She knew quite a lot of young officers who were by the book 24/7. Not to mention senior NCO's. "It's my hauler, parts hauler. Yes I know expensive to be carting all that stuff around in, but to be truthful I won it...long story." The keys were in her hand, beep, beep, she pressed the door release. A few moments later they were heading for town.

Bryan flushed a bit.  "Ah yeah, let's change the subject."   Those were some memories best left in the past.  Especially not with a new team mate.   Not that he would change anything.  He and Bonnie had quite a colorful past.

Bryan rolled his eyes with a chuckle.   "Gotta love a girl who has expensive taste," he teased Bonnie.  "But her wheels are nice.  One thing you'll learn fast about us is we're car nuts," he told Jon.

<From Armory>

Having settled on a nondescript attire of old khaki cargo pants, a checked faded shirt, sturdy hiking boots, all topped off with a dark brown beanie; Albert looked the picture of a typical mountain man. He is only regret was that he could've forgone shaving for the past week to really set the picture. Over the top of all this was a tactical vest with the Kevlar armor plates; he carried two side arms, the standard issue Beretta 9mm and a Glock 19 because of its smaller dimensions. That he carried in a shoulder holster. For his main weapons he chose the old H&K MP5 because of its reliability and he backed that up with a USAS-12 Auto shotgun. A lot to carry but he managed to distribute it over and around his body to allow ease of movement. For a pack he carried the smaller day pack issued to SGC personnel.

A small mini bus waited to take them to Colorado Springs, Al stood by the read waiting for the rest of his team taking a long draft from a coffee he brought with him. He finished that then dumped the cup in a nearby bin.

>>From Armory>>

When Jon finally made it topside, he was ready to go. A dark, long-sleeved ribbed shirt in hunter-style cammo, khaki cargo pants, sturdy boots that would pass as military surplus, and a day pack. He had Glock 43 in an ankle holster, an M9 in a shoulder holster, and his trusty old M1911 .45 in a waistband holster for sidearms, and a P90, because he liked what he liked. The armorer had looked at him askance when he'd asked to check out a kara'kesh, but once he'd demonstrated that he could light it up, it'd been surrendered with no further questions, though there had been a few more looks askance as Jon tinkered with it.

Truth was, most of the gold was pointless, was just decoration and ostentation. What mattered was the red stone, like the healing device - he wasn't allowed to take one of those, since they didn't have spares - so he could wear the thing kind of like an ugly bracelet and deploy it only when necessary.

He'd taken off his dog tags, left them in his quarters after he changed, and he felt a bit like a cheating husband who took off his ring before a business trip, but this was hardly his first rodeo, and he knew about going in dark, without any support.

Knew it too well, thanks to Maybourne and an unwanted visit in an Iraqi prison.

Jon acknowledged his CO with a polite nod. "Sir. Thanks for giving me the green light on the, uh, device. I promise not to use it unless it's strictly necessary."
