Supposedly they will be allowed to release a scaled back version, but no word on the status of it.

If you like TOS, I suggest checking out ST Continues.

I still get the occasional update from Indiegogo as a supporter. According to those, they just bought a place to, I believe, act as a sound stage.

Frankly, with most of the cast barred and the guy who played the Klingon having passed away, plus the scale back, I really cant find myself caring.

Plus, they brought the lawsuit on themselves by trying to make a profit when they clearly knew that was a no-go. It was a stupid greedy mistake that could have been avoided.

Prelude is amazing, but sadly, after the lawsuit, we're not getting anything close. Nearly all of the actors cannot participate as part of the ruling, plus the fellow who played the Klingon passed away a couple months ago.

If I get another update from Indiegogo, I'll fill you guys in, since it sounds like outside of that, information is rather sparse.

They have to ruin it for the fans :(  I think that that film would have been awesome, and how dare they tell people what they can and cannot appear in, it is a form of blackmail

Thanks Cipher, I am still hoping it gets made *crosses fingers toes and eyes*

CBS/Paramount holds the licencing rights to Star Trek, so they legally can control their brand. It was more, do this and you won't get sued, rather than don't do this and we will sue you.

Alec Peters broke the cardinal rule. It cannot be for profit. Star Trek fan films have done just fine by not breaking that rule, and Axanar WAS a fan film by its very nature.

So in this case, as easy as it is to blame CBS, Peters knew going in the restrictions and so it caused the problem Axanar is left with today.

They got greedy, damn them, the fact that they were crowd funded as well, well, it's kinda wrong, especially as the actors would have worked cut price or for free, is this so?

Why dont CBS buy it and make it ?

A great question but I think because it was more or less set up to be a mini-series or a movie type deal, not intended to run episodically. I think that Discover came up to answer that question, though I don't think it was the right answer yet. Axanar looks decidedly like the pre-TOS era should, Discover looks way more like NuTrek/Kelvin timeline, even if it's not.

Plus, if you think about it, Axanar caters to the die-hard fans. People who only know the new movies or don't know Star Trek would be more like, "Who the hell is Garth of Izar and why should I care?"
