{Aiden Ford}

Aiden watched his team begin to file out of the room one by one – first Keran, then Specialist, and Lantar. Nyreese remained nearby, as he debated how to tell her what he'd done – or, indeed, whether he should. He preached trust – trust among the team – and he had betrayed that trust. Hadn't he? Yet he had been offered a chance to correct his mistake. But there was that one nagging doubt in the back of his mind. Always that one nagging doubt. Nyreese would be very upset with him for keeping this one secret.

This tangled knot inside his head, twisting, conflicting, gnawed at him. Nyreese needed to know anything that might impact her mission. He needed to come clean. To be completely honest with her. "I told Keran to kill John." Aiden confessed, hands balling into fists. He was just glad the others weren't here to hear it. "Years ago, if he ever got the chance. He was to take the shot. But not now! I told him no." He had no doubt Nyreese would keep a close eye on Keran in the field – and maybe she should. The man was certainly dangerous.

Aiden let out a frustrated sigh. He hated feeling like this. Why should he feel guilty given everything John had done to him? He looked Nyreese right in the eyes. "Okay? Just… okay? Don't say anything. I know you don't approve."

Nyreese watches the team file out, following each of them with her eyes, hands spread out in front of her on the table. When the last one finally is out of sight, she stands from her position leaning on the table and faces Aiden, arms crossed. No way was she letting that minor - yet significant - interaction go by without calling Aiden on it. She knew exactly what it was about. But instead of calling him on it, she waits, letting him decide to come clean, knowing that if she stared him down long enough, he'd relent. It doesn't take as long as she'd anticipated before he's - grudgingly and with a hint of guilt - telling her what she had already surmised.

"Of course I don't approve." Her voice is low and hard, but in her eyes is understanding. "And you know cannot say nothing. You obviously made the pact long ago, before we met, therefore I cannot say much about it. But not knowing that I needed to watch one of our own men does complicate things. You promised you would withhold nothing from me, Aiden. How am I to know that he will not do as you wished without your consent? We aren't exactly leading sheep here. I often wonder if Keran and Specialist are simply with us for the serum you provide them with." Nyreese sighs, closing her eyes for a moment and uncrossing her arms.

"But what's done is done. I only pray that you haven't forgotten to tell me other important information." The healer/warrior takes a step towards Aiden, looking into his eyes, hoping for the first time since she met him that she's doing the right thing.

Making his way down from their 'lost boys clubhouse', Keran hummed quietly to himself, and soaked in the scenery, remembering field training back in the days before Aiden and his concept of hunting the Wraith on their own terms. Feeding on them in a sense.  He took a slow breath of the air, leaving his eyes closed and letting his senses expand to tell him what was around him without looking, a trick only enhanced by the syrum.

This mission would be another chance to prove to Aiden that he was without equal, that his loyalty wasn't bought, or bribed.  If he could get Nyreese back, keep their base safe from exposure, and paint a target on their shared enemy.  Perhaps then, they'd be on the real hunt.

He entertained himself with these thoughts while waiting beside the gate...

{Aiden Ford}

In one swift move, Aiden slammed both fists into the table, his chair toppling over as he stood. "I made a mistake, Reese!"

He closed his eyes and took long, deep breaths – something Reese had taught him to do when his temper took hold. He would never hurt her, and she knew it, but it helped to calm him. "It was… not long after we recruited Keran." The sting of John's final betrayal was still fresh. "I never thought we would actually get the chance. I assumed John would leave me be, thinking me dead. But I was scared. Scared that he wouldn't. I know it doesn't make it better. I should have told you. The one thing I never told you."

He couldn't look at her. Couldn't bear to see her disappointment. Even as Reese sought out his eyes, he turned away. "Please… just go."

At Aiden's outburst, Reese steps back from the table, but not out of fear. She didn't even flinch, really. She just didn't want to be relying on the table's presence should Aiden's temper cause the thing to break. She watches him approvingly as he calms himself; watching the emotions cross his face. Seeing this way washes away any anger or disappointment she held. She knew it wasn't intentional. So when he begs her to go, instead she steps forward and places a warm, soft hand against his cheek, gently tugging his face toward hers.

"I forgive you, Aiden," She tells him in a low, calm, almost seductive voice. Her eyes no longer held disappointment or anger, but forgiveness and fondness. "One thing in our entire relationship? I know those who would do battle to have only one small thing like this between them. How can I hold this against you, hm?"

{Aiden Ford}

Aiden flinched at Reese's touch, so warm and gentle, bidding him come closer. Doing the exact opposite of what he'd asked of her. Saying no simply wasn't an option any more; he merely let her hand guide him and listened.

Her words continued to rattle around in his head, long after she'd said them. I forgive you. How can I hold this against you? But he had no words of his own. What had he done so right to have such an understanding woman at his side? Even when he really made a mess of things, still she stood by him.

Every fiber within him protested the act, but Aiden finally cracked a smile, resting his forehead against Reese's. He really was lucky. He knew he wouldn't have come this far without her. He may have led their men in united purpose, but Reese was the glue that held them all together.

"You should go," Aiden insisted, though it pained him to end this moment. "You know how Specialist likes his stories. He may invent a couple more, if we spend any more time alone."

Didn't know what was taking the other so long.  He knew Specialist had a touch of OCD, everything had to be just right, but the other one, he didn't really consider.  Collateral damage perhaps, a scapegoat, a fall guy.  Keran scratched the back of his neck.  Maybe he could convince Aiden to move them to another more tropical planet.  These back woods places were always so mundane.  If the others screwed up enough he'd press the issue, for now he'd just wait, sitting on a rock a few feet from the dialing device.

{{Specialist}}

Everything was all set, guns loaded, weapons cleaned and ready to roll, blades sharp. Specialist was as ready to go as he would be, and he was looking forward to a fight, or the possibility of getting to shoot something. It seemed to be the only fun thing he got to do these days, besides drinking and such, so he wasn't about to miss the opportunity if it came. Of course, he'd listen if he was told not to go in guns blazing. Probably. One could never tell.

So, all loaded up, he proceeded to the Stargate, not making the effort to be stealthy or subtle like others might have. He could take all comers, and if anyone really cared enough to come after them then they would have to move anyway, and what he did wouldn't make a difference. If Ford didn't like it, he would just have to deal with it.

Arriving, he saw Keran was there, but left the silent man to himself, instead falling in around the gate and sitting back to wait. Hopefully it wouldn't be too much longer at this point. He was already itching to go.

Lantar followed Specialist's lead as he silently fell behind a bit a few paces from the man. He was feeling geared up and ready for battle not like he probably will fight anyone, but he will be ready. He noticed Keran was silent as always, but he was the same because Lantar didn't have much to say either. He was still bitter about his family being left behind or missing somewhere in the galaxy and there wasn't anything that Sheppard or his Atlantis team could do about it, so he harbored some resentment about it.

He took his stance not far from Specialist but near the gate because he was ready too for the mission to start.

Martel had been out checking all the traps and devices he had around the perimeter. Nyreese had already told him everything he needed to know. The most important thing, to him, was that they were leaving Aiden here alone. Not that he doubted that the man could take care of himself, but he had asked permission to skip the briefing in favour of ensuring the safety of their leader while he's left alone. Honestly, though, he didn't understand why they needed him. He was the geek of the group, as Aiden called him. More often than not, in fact. That or Mini McKay. Which he's not too sure if he likes or not. His fighting skills had only been enhanced a little, and just barely meeting Aiden's requirement. But an order was an order, so he'd spent the last twenty minutes checking and double checking that everything was in working order before heading to the Gate.

Upon arrival, he notes that the meeting must have ended, since everyone but Nyreese had arrived. Which also meant that it had literally just ended since Aiden was likely giving Nyreese some final instructions. Prior to making his rounds, he'd prepped himself for the mission and stashed his bag full of supplies near the gate. He scoops it up easily and takes his position at the DHD, waiting for Nyreese to arrive and give the order to dial. Apparently as resident geek, it's also his job to dial the gate. Which he honestly didn't mind. He loved being able to operate the ancestral ring. He definitely wouldn't have had that opportunity back home.

<< Aiden's Batcave >>

When Aiden's forehead meets hers and she sees the smile on his face, she can't help but return the smile. Yes, there's the Aiden she knows, the Aiden she vowed to protect and care for. The Aiden she has come to love a great deal, though she barely admitted this to herself on a good day. But she can't deny the flutter she feels when he leans in close.

'Yes, and if we spend any more time alone, I may just do what I've been tempted to do for some time now.' Nyreese gives his cheek one more stroke for comfort and pulls away, a mischievous smile on her face.

"Perhaps it is good to keep them guessing." She suggests. "If they are speculating about us, they aren't planning to overthrow us." She leaves him with that thought and a wink and a smile as she leaves Aiden on his own.

<< To Stargate >>

The farther she gets from Aiden, the more alone she feels. It's the first time she's ever gone on a mission like with without him. Sure, she's gone to other planets to collect supplies - mostly medicinal. But this was the first recon mission she'd gone on alone. Well, not alone, to be sure, but ... Without Aiden. For the first time in many years she feels a bit vulnerable. And to her horror, actually wishes for a moment that she had taken the serum Aiden had offered her.

By the time she arrives at the Gate, she has talked herself down and feels more confident. Seeing the men present and waiting, also not seeming concerned, bolsters her confidence. If they trusted her, she can trust in them. She glances at Keran. Most of them ... To a degree. She sighs inwardly and continues on.

"Martel." She calls as she approaches. "Dial the gate." Martel just nods and begins dialing.

As the others began to gather, Keran's head came up to regard each of them with that lazy hunter-cat gaze before returning to the horizon until he heard Nyreese's boots approaching.  in an attempt to set her at ease, he waited until she was upon them before getting up from where he reclined, dusting off his pant legs and replacing the almost lethargic expression with his 'good ol' boy' smile and tucked thumbs in his pockets.

"Anything last minute?" his head tilted coyly "Or is that all he's got in 'im?" knowing there was chemistry between herself and Aiden, it was only a matter of time before isolation, social distance, and nature took it's course.  Didn't mean he couldn't poke at it.

He glanced to the 'nerd' as Aiden called him as she directed him to dial, giving a knowing wink.  The others thought him useless in the field, but he was Genaii, he knew the value of a sharp mind, and gave Nyreese a few more mental points for bringing him along, adding the boy to his priority return mental checklist...

Without hesitation, Martel begins dialing the gate, already having memorised the address. In fact, he had all the addresses he'd ever dialed memorised. Just in case he needed them. For ... you know ... tactical reasons. As he presses the buttons of the device, he listens to the banter between her and Keran. Martel always felt ... wary around Keran. Not because he thinks he'll betray any of them, but because he isn't sure he's gained Keran's trust. He is grateful in some ways that he isn't assigned to him, but at the same time doesn't know Specialist or Lantar that well yet, either. At least around Nyreese he felt a bit more comfortable.

Nyreese just cocks an eyebrow at Keran. "Yes, he told me to keep an extra special eye on you because you're trigger happy and could snap at any moment given the right circumstances." While her tone and facial expression might indicate that she's being quite serious, the sparkle in her eye and slight tilting up of the corner of her mouth would betray her sarcasm. Though at the same time, she knows she does need to keep an eye on him. They'd known one another a long time, but she now had information that gives her pause. 'And just when I was beginning to trust you, too ... '

When the 'vortex' settles into a familiar blue puddle, Nyrsees takes the lead. "You know your teams and your duties. No one moves without my call. Keran, let's go." She gives the last-minute orders before stepping through the gate, assuming Keran would be right behind her.

He watched the 'nerd' dial a moment, before listening to Nyreese's response.  A corner of his mouth twitched and he patted his sides, showing no guns for him to get 'trigger happy' with, though anyone who knew him would know he could probably throw one of those knives just as accurately.

As the woman stepped through, he glanced around the remaining members, running his tongue along his lower teeth behind his lip, patting his radio to insure they remembered the channel they were supposed to use, gave a loose salute to Specialist, and backed through the gate.

Martel looks over at Lantar and sneers. "No, we're gonna stay here for the next half hour and wait for them to be ambushed by Sheppard and his team." The sarcasm is dripping from his voice as he rolls his eyes and looks at Specialist, waiting for him to lead the way.
