Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

The surface of the planet was particularly vicious today; the distant sun lent only slight amounts of light through the clouds of ash that covered the skies. The winds shredded what little surface grip the falling ash-rain had on the baked earth, a surface upon which a boot fell as the Warden exited the buried hive and stood looking over the inhospitable terrain.

The long white hair billowed behind him in the wind, along with the tails of his coat. Hands loosely clasped in front of him, fingertips resting against each other, forefingers ever so faintly moving to tap together as his masked face turned upward to view the skies

Over the roar of the wind, the sound of the returning dart was heard, whining thorugh the air as it made a low pass, and then circled and entered the one bay that wasn't covered by centuries old hardened magma. His nightshade eyes followed the dart into the bay, and then waited as the pilot, one of the two commanders left awake with him all these years, emerged.

The commander had a scarf over his face, but otherwise was as unimpeded by the atmosphere as the Warden was "Our rest may be at an end... there are signs of culling on the nearby world designated Olmec. Culling in the numbers that would suggest a hive... "

No words were needed, their minds sharing knowledge, reviewing what the commander had seen like sharing files on a tabletop. The Warden nodded- "Then it is time... gather the others at the appointed coordinates. Have a Dart standing by to assist... she is weak after all this time in slumber... she may need the Dart to cut her free..."

Nodding once in return, the commander re-entered the hive to do as instructed, the other commander meeting halfway and the four working in unison to set in motion a plan of action set in place over 10,000 years ago. Their blood raced at the prospect. The Warden slowly made his way along the shelf formed over the ship, taking care in his footing along the slick surface. Entering another crevice, he made his way to the throne room, and opened the door for the first time since it had been sealed. Air rushed past him into the vast chamber, and his footfalls were loud even though they were mere whispers of movement

Approaching the center, he drew the long curved blade that hung at his back. For a time, he stood there, looking at the mound of organic cocoon that rested where the Queen's throne would have been. Reaching out an un-gloved hand, he ran his fingertips over the surface, seeking, probing with both touch and mind. Finally finding the spot he was looking for, he stood back, and with one precise diagonal slice, opened the weakness of the membrane.

Mist erupted from the gash like vaporous blood as The Warden sheathed the blade and slowly fell to one knee, his helmed head lowered in subservience. The psionic eminations from the mound were like the cresting of a wave against the shore, sudden, fierce, erupting in slowly growing strength, until it was a pleasant warmth cascading through his mind and body. His nightshade eyes closed, having forgotten how much he'd missed the connection, and stood slowly- "It is time to wake, My Queen... as you instructed..."

-he reached out his hand as a pale, lavender skinned hand emerged from the slash he made, long slender fingers wrapping around his a moment. With only minimal assistance, the Queen emerged from the cocoon, blinking dark eyes as she gathered her garments, her pisonic reach roaming along the ship from one end to the next

"She's still asleep... " The Warden nodded to her statement, and handed her a scepter to help stand on her own. "You have cleared the way?" Again, wordless, thoughtless, The Warden nodded, and without prompting, began to lead the way back outside. She was surprised at the sensation of the wind, even though she'd felt it before entering hibernation, her body was hyper sensitive after so long of isolation and deprivation. For a time, she stood atop the mound of molten rock, her eyes closed and face upturned, the fabric of her gown billowing around her frame

Finally, her eyes snapped open, and her slit nostrils flared as she caught the scent on the wind, head jerking around as her lips pulled back from black, glass like teeth in a feral hiss; food was nearby. Like a stalking cat, barefoot, she made her way down to the very front of where the ship was buried. A human was held on his knees between two faceless warriors. She wasted no time, lunging in, her hand open and extended, ripping away the burlap shirt and practically riding the man to the ground as she fed for the first time in an eon.

As the desiccated husk nearly fell apart, she stood, languid, regal, licking her lips as she exhaled, a ripple of psionic overlay of her pleasure making the others shudder where they stood, all except the Warden of course, who stood taciturn by her side. Glancing once to him, she nodded with a low curr, and the rest moved back as he moved forward. She turned around where she stood, and half closed her eyes, reaching out her hands slightly in front of her as if opening her arms to another's embrace

The Warden moved to a specific location, just above what would be the sensor node at the very nose of the hive. Drawing his curved blade again, he reversed his grip, the blade pointing down in a two hand hold. Slowly he raised it over his head, white glowing eyes narrowing as he fine tuned his centuries practiced aim, and suddenly dropped to one knee, driving the blade screeching into the hardened magma.

Behind him, at the same time, the Queen's expression became strained, and she exhaled as if struggling, her outstretched hands curling fingers as if gripping. The ground rumbled, slightly at first but with growing intensity. The sound of breaking rock echoed over the howling wind, and there was a great booming of noise. Gasses trapped under the molten rock escaped in great gets of steam, and the rumbling became a tremor, the very ground underneath seeming to tilt and buck as the look of strain intensified on the Queen's face

The waves of psionic energy intensified, redoubled, redirected, the two commanders behind the queen stepped forward, lowering to a knee, and extending their hands to touch either of her thighs through the sheer material of the black dress. The connection amplified her output, and the waves became a sirens call, arching outward and downward. The Warden drew his blade from the stone with a shower of sparks, and took a half step back. The Queen's outstretched hands curled upward, gripping things unseen, and raising higher, her expression a combination of strain, and extasy

The point where The Warden's sword broke ground spiked, the magma crevicing in multiple directions, and the tremors became nearly enough to topple them all. The veins of broken rock began to widen, and the boom of thrusters was felt as much as heard. Gasses erupted along the ever widening cracks, as the Obsidian began to slowly but surely pull itself out of the cover of stone that had been it's bed for far too long

As the nose of the hive was slowly raising, rock began to fall all around as it was destabilized, and the Queen came forward, stepping out of the grip of her commanders, and past the stoic form of the Warden. Her outstretched hands wrapped around the visible portion of glistening organic hull, and she rest her cheek against it, closing her eyes and emitting a low throaty purr as she rubbed against it's skin with her own.

The Warden stepped further back, and the other two Commanders stood. The Queen released her grip, and stepped back a safe distance, and then drew back her lips in a feral hiss, throwing her hands upward suddenly, and fiercely. The sound of breaking rock echoed but was drown out by the boom of thrusters, and the hive rose out of the shelf and several hundred meters into the air, lilting this way and that like a dog shaking off water after escaping the river. Rock and rubble fell like a small meteor shower, and those below went to the solitary dart that was standing by. Shortly after, the dart was making it's way to catch up to the hive that was lunging for open space.

M4T-966 neighboring planet ~ Olmec

The black hulk of the hive was a mar on the night sky above the planet. It's shape was just a patch of moving stars from above the settlements that had just begun to recover from the previous month's culling by Arminius' cruisers. The boom of the behemoth entering atmosphere made everyone on half a hemisphere wake from their beds in cold sweat, their ears straining for the sound of the Wraith Darts. But none were heard

Aboard Obsidian, skimming the surface of the atmosphere, the Queen stood at the central control nexus, one hand softly stroking the raised platform, information relayed to her via misty readouts, and telepathic link to the ship's sensors directly. Using the hive itself as an amplifier for her mental strength, her psionic blanket covered nearly an entire continent, the mental control she was able to exert was minute, but key; all the humans heard was the whispering of the wind in the dark

The massive bulk found a suitable place in a open field, and slowly settled down, nearly a mile away from the nearest populated settlement. The Queen and the ship were able to locate several within decent distance from this one point. It was here she waited and began the Waking.

It took all the rest of that night, and the following day for The Queen, The Warden and both Commanders working endlessly to wake all 37,600 souls aboard the hive, and another 2,400 aboard the cruisers.  They were tucked up against the hive's hull like a trio of Remora, two on the underbelly and one squarely centered on her rear dorsal quadrant.

During the day, the settlements, already on edge from the previous light culling, had sent scouts to confirm the reports of the night's previous bad dreams. Their fears were confirmed, as they saw the massive hive settled on the field like a beached whale, still, silent, ominous. That night most of the women and children were rounded up, and taken back to the caves that had sheltered them before, while the men gathered what weapons they could, and made ready to attack

Dusk swept the land, and turned quickly to twilight, as the settlers lit their torches and advanced on the grounded hive from all directions. They let their fear be quenched by the thought of retribution, their outrage fed their bravery, and soon the mob was running through the fields toward the black hulk of the hive, the light of their torches bobbing in the night, their voices raised in wordless battle cries of the downtrodden

As they almost reached the hive, there was a sudden boom and gust of wind as the atmospheric thrusters let out one downward rush, flattening most of the grass for half a mile in all directions, along with the rushing mob. Their torches blew out, and all but the most sturdy fell back from the brief torrent of wind. The silence after the thrusters was deafening, as even natural sounds of the night were mute

Then came the whispers, fragments of voices you couldn't quite hear, and the figments of movement out of the corner of ones eye. The whips of smoke that moved like a person lunching from the side or behind when you looked. Those who only moments before were ready to lay siege to the hive, clamored to their feet and ran as hard and fast as their legs could carry them. No Darts emerged from the hive to wiz overhead and scoop them up, instead, shapes emerged from the bays and portals and various exits along the entire length of the hive.

The Drones created during the Lantean war were large, brutish creatures meant to do three things; inspire fear, hunt, and kill. Twice the weight and strength of the ones that the people of Pegasus were accustomed to seeing, wearing biometalic masks that still  had some resemblance of features; black hollow eyes set in an angular flat face.

The Wraith hunted. There was no culling, no storing humans caught in beams for later, this was a ravenous animal let loose upon the planet. By midnight, the cries of fear, and pain, and torment spread across half a continent. The Wraith hunted in packs, each group a cohesive instinctive unit tracking, trapping, and feeding without remorse, without prejudice; young and old, man and women, it didn't matter what they were. If they ran, they were caught. If they hid, they were found. If they fought, their meager attempts were quickly overcome by what could only be described as feral, nightmarish savagery.

By dawn, the continent Obsidian had come to rest upon was a barren husk, bodies strewn across the land like discarded rags. By noon, the hunt had spilled over into neighboring continents, bordering islands, any land mass that was within reach was touched. The Queen herself had partaken the initial hunt, and had returned to the hive by morning along with most of the commanders, and The Warden.

"Let them run until they're spent...but insure that a handful survive..." directed to The Warden, who bowed his head and made for the dart bay, followed by a pair of Drone soldiers. The three darts hummed overhead and scattered in different directions searching for survivors of the Hunt.

By dusk, the Wraith were returning to Obsidian in their packs; a new structure was brewing among them. Having gone so long in slumber, without the waking and culling cycle to change their habits, this all night release of their feral nature had been a binge that imprinted a pack mentality over the hive connection. They still lived and functioned as a single networked entity, but they also started forming smaller groups. This mentality was compounded by how Obsidian treated them afterwards

The Queen roamed the ship openly, instead of staying secluded in her throne chamber. Shadowed by two Commanders, she surveyed the crew as they came back aboard and started preparing stasis chambers, cleaning hibernation cells, working over the Darts and Scouts in their bays. Each time she passed, the Wraith lowered to one knee, and tilted their heads, reaching up with one hand to sweep the hair back from one side of their neck until she'd passed by. Then they went back to what they'd been doing.

By the time The Warden returned along with the two other Darts, this kneeling neck exposure had become the new sign of submission, subservience. The Warden met the Queen at the landing bay, disgorging his catch. He'd found two children and a mother hiding in the woods. The other two Commanders found a man, and two more children between them.

The Queen spent nearly half an hour circling the huddled group of whimpering meat. Her eyes narrowed now and again, and her lips twitched, as she sifted through their minds and thoughts, filtering out the knowledge of the present. Finally, she stood back, and shared what little she was able to garner from them with The Warden.

"Ten thousand years... and our race finds itself on the brink of extinction..." she turned away a moment, running her hands over her own arms with a frown of concentration. "The herd no longer fear us... they've grown bold... strong ... It's time the people of this galaxy learned to fear the name of Wraith again..."

The Warden indicated the huddled group with an armored finger "These are saturated with it... let them spread the taint of the truth and real fear to others ... let them know we are coming... and what is in store for the others..."

She arched a delicate brow at his suggestion, turning back to look down at the terrified faces. The fact that they hadn't spoken aloud so the humans could hear what was said only made their fear intensify. Finally the Queen nodded "Let them see the ruin that was their home.. all of it... march them by foot across this land mass... when their feet are bleeding, and they can no longer stand without aid, send them one at a time through the gate to different worlds... I don't care where... "

The Warden bowed, and did the chore himself. The humans were stripped to the skin, collared with scraps of leather leashed to Drone warrior wrists, and paraded around the wasteland that was once where they lived. They showed them the bodies desiccated by feeding, beaten and broken when mauled by the Drones, trampled underfoot by their own people when trying to escape the onslaught. Overhead, a squadron of Drones took flight and blasted every house, every structure on the the path the Warden took them, letting the humans see their settlements raised to the ground

Finally, they reached the gate, dawn was breaking on the distant horizon as the last of them was sent through a random address, and The Warden returned to the hive. He found the Queen in the bridge, the hive was bustling with activity, and positively humming with feral energy from the crew. Rolling his shoulders and flexing his hands as he came to rest at her side, the Warden let out a low rumble of his own at the sensation

The Queen turned her head slightly to glance at him with a corner of her lips curved "You like it.. don't you? The rush of the Hunt still courses through their veins... and it will stay there... No more culling... no more snatching from their beds and feeding on the fringes... From here out, we Hunt... we feed as we Hunt... anything we catch, we send onward as we have today to spread the seeds of fear... "

His response was to lower to one knee, reaching up with one hand to sweep the opposite side of his neck clear of his mane of white hair, the other raising to fold back the high collar of his greatcoat, showing the pulse that raced at his jawline "As you wish, my Queen..."

Her deep laughter echoed through the bridge and down the halls as the hive lurched off the ground, and once again lunged for open space. As the behemoth broke atmosphere, the three attached cruisers broke off, settling into a protective patrol around the larger ship as they headed for the next planet in the system, where the people had seen the previous Wraith go after the culling had taken place.

M4T-966 neighboring planet - Arminius ~ Planetside

It was nightfall on the planet when the sensors started feeding information suddenly. The probe left behind on Olmec was relaying massive Wraith numbers, a full hive compliment and three cruisers. In the span of a a day, what human population remained on the planet after the rogue's culling was exterminated in a feeding of untold numbers. Wraith commanders receiving the information looked at each other as the numbers continued to raise, the death toll of the planet increasing nearly exponentially. Finally, the sensors relayed final data: the Wraith that decimated Olmec were on their way here.

Rushing through the corridors to the Queen's chamber, one of the commanders nearly jogged into the throne hall and fell to one knee "My Queen.. we've just received..." he was cut off as the rogue Queen rose a hand, shaknig her head and indicating the wall where mist fell and formed a screen.

"I am aware... ready the Hive... it won't take long, and this is the only other planet in this system... go..." her tone startled the Commander; she spoke with reservation, as if she believed even if they were ready, something terrible was about to happen.

Keeping his thoughts to himself, he backed from the chamber and went to do her lead Commander, outside the hive observing the growth of the new ship. He quickly brought him up to speed on what he'd learned, and what the Queen instructed. The Commander frowned, looking up at the night sky as starts started to show through.

"Unfortunate timing... the cruisers are not back from scouting for potential new planets ... expand the network, locate them... inform them of the situation, and get the darts ready" The Commander himself went back to the hive and entered the command bridge, dismissing all but one other to man the weapons. He knew how far away Olmec was, and how long it would take to get here. Even if they'd had more warning, he couldn't prepare the hive for full battle in the time allotted. He also couldn't leave the new birthing hive unprotected in it's current state "Launch all darts and scout ships, form a protective net between here and space..."

He leaned on the console staring at the misty readouts as his order was undertaken, knowing already, it was a futile gambit, at best.

M4T-966 neighboring planet - Arminius ~ Orbit

Space was disrupted by the swirling vortex of hyperspace, and the black behemoth rushed into normal space, quickly tailed by the three cruisers. Their black on black organic hulls blended with the midnight hue of space as they approached the planet, their engines and running lights like moving stars. From the planet surface, a whole section of the night sky was moving closer

The Warden stood at the control center, the Queen sitting behind him on a raised chair, her lips pulling back with a low his as the hive sensors picked up the other ship and Wraith "There they are... on that lower continent around the equator..." her eyes closed and head tilted to the side as if listening, while The Warden's head turned to review mist screen readouts

"A hive... on the ground..." his thoughts sounded confused "its... small... barely half the size of Obsidian... there is a aerial barricade of darts... barely a thousand strong... and... " the queen's eyes snapped open and she bolted out of her chair, lunging for the controls and speaking out loud with a feral hiss.

"A child is in the making...." her hands dug into the console, and the massive hive lunged forward, almost outrunning the cruisers that were not ready for the sudden rush. It took all the Queen's control to keep the ship in check and the front of the hive was cherry hued from the steep angle of atmospheric entry, visible for miles away from the grounded hive.

The wave of darts altered their course, like a swarm of angry hornets veering towards the approaching bear that bore down on them. From above, two cruisers increased their approach angle and dove past the front of the hive like falcons, unleashing their deadly barrage of energy fire and unloading their own darts. The wave of defense broke like so much smoke, and the hive barreled through the firefight, belching a volley of energy fire down on the grounded hive. Great gouts of organic hull shot into the air from the impact and explosions

the grounded hive attempted firing back, but Obsidian was moving too fast. Pulling her nose up, the wail of her atmospheric thrusters echoed across the land, making a swift fly by overhead, unloading a harrowing series of energy bolts down at the exposed and vulnerable topside of the grounded hive. Entire sections collapsed like deflated lungs, hallways igniting and burning faster than the regeneration could maintain. Right behind Obsidian, the third cruiser made a followup pass, circling around the safe zone directly above the hive and continuing the barrage.

Forces on the ground were completely defenseless as the darts from the third cruiser were joined by those from Obsidian's bays, the air above the hive was hot with crossfire as the grounded hive attempted to retaliate but just couldn't get the upward angle needed to strike back at the cruiser. The Darts made short work of the surrounding area on the ground around the hive, while Obsidian banked and rolled, coming around for another run

Obsidian was firing before even fully in range, tearing up great furrows of earth leading up to the nose of the grounded hive. The flyby was slower, and all energy batteries were firing as much and fast as she could manage. It was as if Obsidian was trying to be as vicious as possible, hitting the grounded hive with everything she had, as fast as she could. The cruiser that was assisting barely had time to maneuver out of the way as she flew past, banking just out of the hive's retaliation firing range and beginning to circle

As the two previous carriers finished eradicating the opposing darts, casualty reports started coming in. The Queen stroked the console and made cooing sounds as she received the information, and nodded to The Warden. Without word or instruction he pointed at two commanders, and left the command bridge, headed for the bay. In moments, he, the two commanders, and a compliment of only ten alpha drone solders left Obsidian's bay in a scout ship headed for the burning hull that was once a small rogue hive.

M4T-966 neighboring planet - Arminius ~ Planetside

Darts flew overhead in a mad dance of pre-combat frenzy, beams lashing out here and there to capture and contain opposing Wraith forces that had survived the initial onslaught. Any figures seen fleeing the wreckage were instantly captured, and the three crusiers took up a circular, predatory pattern overhead just above the wizzing darts. The Warden's scout ship flew through the center devider of the damaged hive, surveying with sensors and his own eyes first hand Obsidian's violent assault. Giving a low inner shudder of pleasure he settled the Scout near the center of the hive

Embarking on foot, the small party went through the wreckage, starting with entering the dart bay from the ground, stunning and, in The Warden's case, slashing what little opposition they received. Most drone soldiers left aboard dropped their weapons at the sight of the Warden marching down the halls, taking a knee and showing submission. Shortly the party reached the command deck, the top of which was open to the sky, the cieling caved in and burned at the edges. A near direct blast had punched a hole straight through

Nightshade eyes narrowing, The Warden turned to an opposing commander who was prostrate before him, his thoughts lashing out as sharp as the point of his sword "Your Queen... where is she, and why does she hide?" when the wraith made to speak, the Warden slashed his upper arm down to the bone with one swing, bringing the blade back up around, the point resting under the Wraith's jaw "Speak to me like a Wraith... not a mongrel ..."

The opposing commander's eyes rose without raising his head, his good arm pointing across the wreckage to a pile of organic debris "There... she ... she is there..."

Without instruction, the two commanders that came with The Warden turned, and started moving the debris until the bodies were uncovered, having used the favored Commander's body as a shield to cover the queen when the ceiling collapsed. A snarl echoed out from under The Warden's mask "Bring them both..." He didn't even look as he yanked the sword up at an angle, only partially decapitating the commander that he'd interrogated. His death would be slow, and painful as his body bled out

Arminius and his queen were dragged out by a pair of drone soldiers each, and brought out to the ground outside the still burning hive. If it survived, it would never fully recover from so much damage dealt over so much of it's bulk. Looking up, The Warden saw Obsidian shift her course, and skim in low over the ground on an approach-

Moments after the behemoth settled, it's thrusters kicking up clouds of dust and rubble, the Commander and his Queen were brought on board, and dragged into stasis cocoons usually reserved for humans as food. The message was clear; this was the fate of any who opposed the new reign

The remainder of the night was spent cleaning up bodies, and putting out fires. Only minimal damage was caused to Obsidian and her cruisers, although many Darts and their pilots had been lost. Those darts and soldiers were replaced by those who submitted from the now desiccated husk of the previous smaller hive. Queen Obsidian made sure her presence was imprinted on the others as a pyre was built for the fallen

Large gouts of flame lept from the piled bodies and organic wreckage of the former hive. All the Wraith present gathered for the ignition ceremony, honor given to the fallen, even if they were enemies when they fell. As the flames licked up the underside of the former hive, the captured queen was brought up from the stasis chambers, and the Commander was brought up but only to be dropped to his knees and be an observer

Obsidian approached the captured queen, circling, as her pisonic envelope unfolded. The gathered wraith that stood closest, were those of the captured queen's hive. They would all be up close, while Obsidian's hive members formed a denser, outer ring of observers, both to keep the turned Wraith present, and to observe

Obsidian's mind rolled the captured queen's thoughts, like dough fresh from the baker's bowl. She clutched her head and fell to her knees as Obsidian ripped and pried at her barriers, getting to the knowledge stored beneath. This was the first stage of the execution, and it was clear there would be no mercy to any opposition

Once every ounce of thought and memory had been pried from the captured queen and assimilated, Obsidian herself lunged forward, hands outstretched to grip and tear the fabric of what was left of her gowns. What little resistance was given was rewarded with a battery of fists, slashes, and being thrown to the ground

Once the captured queen was bare to the skin, bruises and burns from the damage sustained in the ship visible, as well as new slashes and blood from her lips and nose, Obsidian griped her by the hair and lifted her to her feet. Turning her about to face outward, she walked the captured queen in a circle, gripped by the head, showing her broken and batterd body to the closest onlookers, her own former hive. She felt their feelings of rejection, disgust, and contempt wash over her as painful as any physical blows received

Tossing her to the center of the onlooking ring of Wraith, Obsidian prowled around her some more, feeding into the onlooking Wraith her own primal sense, sharing the thrill of power with them, bonding and imprinting her own sense with them. The hum of their eagerness amplified, heartbeats raising, breath becoming audible as she stoked the fires of their instincts. At the peak of emotion, Obsidian rolled the fallen queen onto her back, straddled her stomach and drove her palm into her chest

The queen's scream echoed across the valley, but she had little strength left to resist. Gripping Obsidian's wrist, she flailed and kicked her feet like a fish plucked from the water, and droped on the planks. As her energy fed into Obsidian, so too did her residtual power. Obsidian herself, while still connected to the onlooking crowd, bled the pleasure of her feeding into them, solidifying her position and imprint down to the base instinctive level. Her own Hive received reinforcement of their bond, and amplifying their already high feral drive

As Obsidian rose from the husk that was formerly a queen, she threw back her head and roared a victorious call, that was taken up by the surrounding Wraith, and then with a outward pulse of psionic command, the whole of the new hive rushed outward in all directions, scowering the continent for anything worth feeding upon. Like Olmec, any land mass within reach was hunted, captured, and fed until dry.

The Commander was left on his knees, held with bound hands by two drone soldiers. As the Hunt began, led by The Warden, Obsidian turned to this fallen commander. Throughout the whole exicution, she'd left him untouched, both physically and mentally. He hadn't shared in the bonding, the elation of the feeding, or the sudden rush to the Hunt. She approached him and narrowed eyes as her mental grip made him sieze up and start to choak

"You were the only one who did not die in service of your hive...who did not turn of their own will. For this, you are anathema... you are not Wraith... you are food..." jerking her chin, the former Commander exhaled and gasped for breath as her grip released, and he was yanked to his feet and dragged back toward the hive, returned to the stasis cocoon.

When The Warden returned, he joined the Queen as they made their way to the lump of organic matter that was the start of the former rogue's' new hive. Already her own scientific minds were going over it, and when she approached she was given an update by them all. At the same time they dropped to one knee, reaching up to sweep their hair back from one side of their neck, and fed her their findings

"The core is human, female, young and weak..."

"The standard hive retrovirus has been implemented but no supporting enzymes or structure to assist.."

"DNA samples and enzymes from Obsidian would greatly increase it's chance of survival.."

"We should begin structure assistance as soon as possible if we want it to thrive..."

"With a human core it will be dull witted and compliant to any commands...Wraith or otherwise"

"Do you wish us to continue it's growth?"

Giving the writhing mass a slow once over, she glanced to the still burning shell that was once a hive. Narrowing her eyes she approached the mass and tilted her head "It's time we did something different... Kill this.. thing... lump it into the fire with it's maker... this planet like the last will serve as a memorial and reminder ... None shall defy us... not even our own kind..."

They all bowed and began dismantling the outer reaches of the mass, pouring catalysts on it that impeded growth, and started breaking down the proteins. As the mass began to writhe and panic, The Warden stepped forward and drew his blade. The Queen watched as he waded through the mass of reaching tendrils and slashed his way past what instinctive defenses the mass tried to erect. Her breath increased in measure as he got closer and closer to the center. Weaving and slashing and pressing ever forward The Warden approached the center of the core. As his blade pierced the protective shell and into the central mass that used to be a human, the Queen experienced a physical climax.

As the scientists and a handful of drone soldiers began taking the mass apart and tossing it on the hive pyre, The Warden retrieved his blade, and, breathing heavily, approached Obsidian. His breath made echoing sounds against the inside of his mask, and his nightshade eyes glowed even in this broad daylight. His heavy breathing wasn't from exertion, but from the shared pleasure he received from Obsidian at watching his work.

She crooked her finger to him, and began to walk backwards. He followed like her beckoning finger had a leash around his neck, past the burning wreckage, up the loading hatch of Obsidian's hive entrance. She walked backwards without any rush, without a glance over her shoulder, eyes and attention focused on The Warden as she led him to the throne chamber.

Once inside, the ship closed the doors and sealed them without command, sharing the Queen's desires. She walked backward still, reaching up to remove the elaborate shoulders of her attire, as The Warden stopped, his sword dropping at his side. She tossed the encumbrances to one side, and started pulling at threads slowly, sitting down in the throne as she did-

"Your loyalty ... will be vigorously rewarded... your lineage will be the first of my new Wraith ..."

He reached up, showing as little haste as she did, unfastening the clasps of his padded coat, the cris cross holster of his shoulders and stun weapons, rolling his shoulders and dropping the mass of black fabric behind him. Clad only in boots, and the form defining black pants, he approached. Definition of his body was outlined with each breath he took, and as he got within reach of her at her throne, he reached up with both hands, gripping his mask, and raising it off his face

"As you wish, My Queen..."

Nightfall came quickly on this planet, closer to the sun of the system it's rotation was faster. Many of the Wraith were still returning from scouring the planet. No one was brought back for warnings this time, and none survived the onslaught. By the time night was fully upon them, the only sound was the crackle of the fire still burning from the blackened pile of organic matter that was previously a hive.

The cruisers kept a evenly spaced three point patrol around the planet just outside atmosphere, and when the other cruisers entered normal space returning from their recon missions, the hive on the planet was alerted. The four new cruisers approached the planet with haste at first, but when they got no reply from their own hive, they slowed, settling into a more defensive formation and coming in from the far side of the planet's land mass.

Obsidian recalled her own cruisers, but kept them in atmosphere, while the hive bustled like an ant hill with preparation for possible ground skirmish. She sat in her throne chamber, and extended her enhanced psionic envelope like a blanket over the area. The moment the cruisers entered the range, they stopped their approach and landed instead. The commanding officers from each cruiser disembarked with a escort of two drone soldiers a piece

The 4 cruiser commanders and escort met The Warden who stood alone on the plane between Obsidian and the cruisers. His imposing figure resonated with strength from the Hunt, and the sharing with the Queen. He was saturated with her scent, and her psionic blanket was like a warm embrace after coming in from the cold. Relayed by thought, The Warden replayed the public execution of the former queen, and with Obsidian's psionic touch, shared the sensations of it along with the images.

Through the commanders, the sharing was spread to all the crew of the four other cruisers, who slowly started to file out and assemble in a large crowd. The Sharing began to eat away any previous loyalties they may have harbored, overlaying it with the rewarding sensation Obsidian was bestowing, and imprinting with her scent on The Warden. When the Sharing was near complete, The Warden half turned and gestured behind him

The cruiser commanders pulled away from the crowd, and entered the hive, lead unerringly to the stasis chambers, and the former favored Commander who was held there. At the same time the Sharing replayed the queen being fed upon, the four commanders lunged and pulled him from the chambers, and fed until there was barely a body left to fall apart on the hive floor-

As they rose from the discarded clothing, looking up the four commanders saw their new queen, gliding down the hall toward them. One by one, each lowered to their knee, reaching up and sweeping the hair from one side of their necks. She approached and ran her nails along that exposed section of skin on each of them, her thigh brushing their cheek and shoulder as she passed to the next

The rite of passage complete, the four stood and gazed upon Obsidian. Each gave their reports openly to her through their shared link, feeding her sight and sound and sensation of their voyages abroad in search of new planets and populations large enough to sustain them. The Queen received, experienced, and processed all four reports at once, while simultaneously sharing the information with The Warden, and her own Cruiser Commanders, who in turn began cross referencing constellations and plotting trajectories.

First one hive, then the other and finally the escort cruisers burst out of a large hyper space window far above the planet known to the Wraith as Olmec. It had always been a popular destination for culling and feeding, having been used by many wraith hives as this particular destination was seen as a place of prolific breeders of humanity, to Reece it was often a fueling point for her crews when needed and today was no different to her.

Reece had been channeled into the ship since the moment they left the Vanir space, she could feel every nuance of her and the crews as well. As they entered the area of Olmec, she had the hive drop to the atmosphere, it was now night time on the planet, the perfect time to instil fear into these lowly animals. It was also the best time to avoid conflict with opposing hives as each saw others as poaching on their turf on those rare occasions two groups happened to arrive around the same time.

"My scans are showing no life signs on the surface, this is most unusual." She said aloud. For a moment she thought that perhaps some over zealous Wraith group may have culled the people out completely, but that would have been even more unusual, what is the point in that? ~We'll take a transport down to the surface and see for ourselves. Its possible they may have gone to one of the outlying settlements via the Stargate~ That was her mind send, all aboard would have that firmly implanted and know her feelings on the subject. It was said as always, they were dealing with nothing less than food.

Surface scans revealed no life signs beyond what little wildlife there was.  A closer survey would reveal the discarded husks of hundreds of thousands of people, strewn about like so much kindling, their structures raised to the ground by plasma fire, still smoldering though it was clearly some time since the assault.  And assault it was, but there was no weapon damage on the bodies, the blasts came after everything and everyone was long dead.

The Stargate buffer showed several dozen addresses, and there was a scuffed single file line showing a dozen or so footsteps leading into it, but none coming out.

Irisa stared at the screen for a few moments studying the planet. Olmec. It seemed like a desolate, bleak planet. She hasn't been outside for a while. Turning to Reese, the female nodded and responded via her telepathic thought, "Of course. I cannot wait to set foot outside, but I shall take caution and follow your step."

{Pulse~Wraith}

Pulse wasn't very keen on setting foot on a planet. He had only been outside once in his life and that'd been already enough.
'And by we you mean all of us?', he responded telepathically as well, although it just felt wrong.
Usually, he liked nature and the feeling of the wind on his skin, but he doubted they were just talking a walk outside. It sounded a bit more dangerous.
Why should the herd abandon the planet, if not for a reasonable and immediate threat? But he kept his thoughts for himself.

With her mind connected to the ships sensors, Reese could see and feel everything her ship could and the connection was strong. Something gravely wrong was the feeling she was getting and that was not right; this was a full and active world, one she and other Wraith had visited frequently over the last few years, culling lightly as they would to allow the food source to regenerate as they had always done. ~Yes, the three of us and a dozen drones. I am feeling nothing, not even a whisper from the surface.~

She turned and left the bridge, headed for the huge bay below them. Within held the Darts and two medium sized transports; she chose her own, a heavily armed vessel that could take many more then the small company she had with her. Reese headed straight for the command station, waiting for the others to join her.

From the psychic network, Irisa thought she detected a hint of fear in Pulse's words. Maybe it wasn't exactly fear, but she could tell from the way he kept asking Reese stupid questions. Letting out a snarl, she followed Reese's footsteps swiftly out of the bridge and down toward one of the transports. She continued to wear her armor along with some weapons like the staff in her hilt and the blade that was resting on her back. The Wraith female liked being prepared.

She joined Reese on her side as she kept her mind open toward Olmec. She was still scanning, wondering. Never before did Irisa set foot on Olmec and yet it felt old. Like she's been there before. That feeling lingered a bit like a bad taste in her mouth.

Pulse-Wraith

Pulse wasn't actually so eager to go there on a planet, especially when it was supposed to be devastated. Even though he was curius, his curiousity didn't suffice to make him want such a thing.
But since he already felt a very uncomfortable feeling emanating from the female teratism, he swallowed any words he would have said and just followed the other female that just had left the bridge.
He actually didn't feel very well, since he didn't trust his life to any of the two females in case they were attacked. He just hoped the bunch of drones would help if they really encountered any dangers.
Since the planet is abandoned obviously, I don't see a reason to go there, he sighed to himself silently.

When they made low level passes in the shuttle, it was clear the devastation to the settlement was postmortem.  The bodies of the desiccated husks were almost indistinguishable from kindling and smoking wreckage.  This wasn't just a culling; it was a complete and total consumption, and the tremors of the psychic presence of the ancient Wraith that had done it left a primal vibration like a ghostly message.

We were here... we did this... and we will do it again...

~Spread out, make a thorough search and take four drones each~ Reese commanded harshly, she was surging with rage now as she walked out of the shuttle. Already she could not only see but feel the devastation, but there was something more, this was much like she'd seen before, only the last time it was the Vanir. A warning. The only difference here was this was definitely done by a Wraith. The question remained, why.

"Search for any clues, anything. Pulse, make your own search head towards the Stargate. If nothing prevails here, we can at least see if that has been used recently. Irisa......what do you feel?" She said in voice, watching the wind blow the debris about. Reese knelt to the ground, her hand splayed out to feel the earth.

~I will find you and destroy you~ She howled to the heaven's. Any Wraith within a the region of space would feel that chilling call.

The world was dead. It was quiet. The moment Irisa set foot on the ground of Olmec, a ripple in the psionc waves washed over her. It was as if all the words, the cries of humans all came and then was silent. She was on a dead world. The one had her soul ripped out, crushed and left bleeding with bodies still writhing, still crying out in eternal pain. The wind was quiet. Slow moving. Irisa's long, braided white hair moved with the irregularity of the single wind like a broken clock.

Looking around at the cold, dead horizon of the planet, Irisa took out the hilt of her staff and clicked it. The small metal embroidered Syrataen wooded staff suddenly grew in size as it was activated into a full two meter size. For the moment, it was her walking stick. Still a weapon, but she felt that she needed something on hand as her deep, cold ice blue eyes continued scanning the desolate ground littered with withered husks.

"Search for any clues, anything. Pulse, make your own search head towards the Stargate. If nothing prevails here, we can at least see if that has been used recently. Irisa......what do you feel?"

Irisa kept her silence as she walked out a bit more further, stared into the husk before her and closed her eyes as she knelt with her hand still on the handle of her staff weapon. Soon as she touched the husk, she flinched when the icy cold piercing cry came forth from Reese telepathically. Putting that aside, the wraith female placed her feeding palm on top of the feeding scar of the withered husk. Digging deep within her psychic powers, she let out a gasp withdrawing her hand.

Around her tear ducts, a single teardrop started to fall. To say that the Wraith did not have feelings would be probably be true, but not all Wraith were like Irisa. Irisa shook her head as she quickly wiped her tear and responded in a strong tone to eradicate any sense of weakness in her aura, "They all have died. It wasn't by choice, but it was done with such cruel passion. As if there were no hesitation or pause. Nothing...I mean, they did not deserve this. No one deserves this."

Irisa kept her true feelings hidden and kept her strength by touching the dirt on the ground. She grabbed a fistful of it and picked it up letting the dirt escape through her fingers. On the dirt, she could literally almost literally taste the other Wraith that was here previously. It was almost recent and she could taste the one that did all this. A certain Queen. Opening her mouth as her brilliant flash of fangs showed, Irisa let out a snarl as she swiveled her head slightly opening her ice blue eyes. Her white braided hair was flicked over her shoulder against her chest piece as she let out her own chilling howl that almost equally resembled Reese's own.

After she finished her howl, Irisa let out another snarl as she spoke with a chilling tone, "The Queen. I sense her. Tasted her remnants. It tastes so sweet. Oh so sweet I must feed on her to quench my thirst. She will then feel the pain a thousand times fold that will make up for the lives she fed on herself."
