Title: PG8-K59 Alpha Site- Commanders Office-lvl 16
Post by: Ellen_Ripley on October 20, 2014, 04:27:43 PM
Situated one level above the gate room, adjacent to the briefing room much like the SGC back on Earth; the Commanders office differs somewhat by having its own private suite. That is accessed by a door at the rear left side and has its own bathroom and sitting area. A comfortable sofa, a desk and the usual offerings supplied to Staff officers. It is Lucille's domain and a place where many a meeting has taken place, some happy memorable moments, some not quite so.

Commanding Officers:

2005-8 | Brigadier General Nicholas Blue US Army

2008-2011 March | Brigadier General Lucille Chalmers USMC

2011 March/August | Colonel Paul Davis USAF (Temporary command)

2011 August to present | Colonel Michelle Bixby USAF

Executive Officers

2005-8 | Colonel Christopher Sharp USAF

2008-2011 August | Commander Jordan O'Neil USN

2011 August to present | Lieutenant Commander Arthur Hood USN

<From Base Hangars>

Somewhere between here and Boston, there is a God who has turned his head away from mankind. Those were the words that filtered through Lucille's mind as she gained her office. Worn out, feeling pressed down by the hand of fate, she flung her things down into a heap in one corner of the room, then with weary steps she made for her bathroom within her suite. Of course the woman could be forgiven for feeling sullen, but she wasn't about to let her people see that- her mind set on resolve as she showered and eventually changed into her khaki summer uniform. A few moments later, she was sitting silently at her desk, tapping out a report of the events.

<<From Men's Locker Room>>

After walking away from checking out the infirmary, Jon thought a bit on the issue. Well aside from the issue with the newcomer, but he had a personal issue with the Infirmary. Something to do with death, spirits and voodoo. Aside from voodoo, there wasn't much he could do about it. Ever since the death of his grandfather, Jon had a morbid fear of infirmaries. It wasn't so much of a morbid fear, but he just wouldn't enter the infirmary. Since his father and lately his brothers' death, Jon just gave up trying to enter the infirmary because he didn't want to talk to spirits. Not that he talks to spirits, but he believed they were there. Haunting. Judging him. He just didn't want to face him. That was why he started running away. But one of these days he will face the infirmary. One day. Maybe. Considering his family was still on Earth and he figured that spirits couldn't enter the giant ring of water-look-alike without setting off paranormal alarms. If only that were true...

He approached the doors of Chalmer's office. Raising his fist, he looked around and it dawned to him. He was the first to arrive. Rolling his eyes, he muttered silently to himself, Girls...what can you do?

Akela is probably laughing at him right now. Jon, you gotta slow down and breathe. Let others catch up!, she'd chide him.

Of course, Akela is in Heaven right now. As well as the rest of his family. That much Jon believed. It's only just that he believed their spirits was left behind and watching him while the rest of their non-corporeal existence was resting somewhere up there. Closing his eyes, he cleared his throat and knocked on the door to General Chalmers' office.

First victim of the day and it would of course be the nugget; that in itself said he was out to impress the 'boss'. Lucille looked him up and down, he fitted the Marine profile well and only his personality would dictate her future recommendations for him. "Take a seat please Lieutenant, I imagine the others are not far behind you. While we wait, give me your thoughts on today's engagement."

Jon was nervous. Of course he was sweaty a little but not so much. Entering the famed office of General Chalmers, Jon offered a greeting and sat down on the chair provided for him, "Thank you, General."

He cleared his throat and looked around a bit. No doubt since being first in here, the general would think he was impressing the boss. That wasn't the case. Really. He was more or less kind of an rash person. He tends to rush things and Akela would always chide him to slow down to take a deep breath.

When Chalmers asked him for his thoughts on this day's engagement, first thing Jon did was think okay, give her some thoughts. Not bad. I can do that. Definitely. Jon responded quickly hoping the general wouldn't notice him hesitating or being nervous, "As for to be in outer space for the first time flying, I had fun with it. The engagement against the LA fighters was exhilarating to say the least. Although I do prefer the flying stuff, Commander O'Neil had me to take the gunner's position. I realized it wasn't the time to say anything, I took the position and did my best taking down the LA fighters. I don't know much about the Lucian Alliance, but I've gotten enough recent data about them to know that they aren't the ones to mess with. Their flying capabilities are poor compared to the other AC 401s. If I had a flying match with a LA fighter, I would probably win. Umm, I think that's it. For my thoughts that is. Unless I should add more?

Jon stopped talking. Maybe he said too much or still too little and needed to add more. He was hoping that Chalmers wouldn't see that he was trying hard to give her some thoughts, but he was new. A greenie, or nugget if she preferred. He also mentally facepalmed himself after he almost skipped up on his words as he tried to be clear as he could be without making her upset or confused.

There were times in Lucille's life when she had been handed a silver platter, this would for all intents and purposes appear to be one of those rare occasions. Her only problem is she could only make recommendations on the placement of personnel, she did though have a long standing request to select any candidates she thought suitable for the Atlantis mission and so far, Agathon did tick most of the numbers. His file read slightly above average on 302 handling and skills, that put him in good stead as well; Colonel Sheppard should be satisfied if Lucille put the boy's name in. "For the most part we've found, other than the odd Jaffa who have joined their ranks, they are farmers thrown into a Death Glider with no more than a few days training at best. Your real challenge would be against a skilled pilot and there may well be that in line for you. I'll say no more though until I do some work on your behalf as to your eventual placement Lieutenant."

Where were those girls? It had been more than enough time for them to get here. "Is there anything that stands out you may wish to ask?" That should pass the time away.

Jon thought long and hard about what she said. Looking around, he was also wondering when the girls were gonna come here. They were taking their sweet time of course. Maybe some clothes shopping? Typical women. Always wanting to look nice in front of the general. When will they learn that time is sometimes best used wisely instead of spending money on useless stuff when you already have those. Akela sometimes was the victim of shopping spree with her friends. Her girlfriends always looked at her for her credit card usage and sometimes she'd go the limit. It was frustrating.

The greenhorn pilot opened his mouth and responded as he had a question about his placement, "Ma'am, if you don't mind my asking and I do like staying here in the Alpha Site. It's just, I was originally supposed to go straight for Atlantis base after this. I'm wondering. When will I go to Atlantis? I am eager, that's all and I like the Alpha Site, so this is me just being curious and in no way of trying to make people think I don't want to be here. I like being here. In the Alpha Site," Jon gulped pausing a bit before adding, "General."

He blinked a couple times awaiting her response. As far he had been polite and courteous up to this. When they finish the briefing, he will continue to be nice because he was after all a nice person. No strings attached.

Teya finally managed to track down everyone that she needed to and now she was feeling worn out.  She had one more stop to make though before hitting the showers.  She headed for Lucille's office, stopping outside the door and knocking.  She didn't know what Lucille would be in the middle of, but she wasn't going to chance interrupting since this wasn't an emergency.

{ Captain Ryse Collins }

Ryse had sped the group up on the way. When she got to the office, she checks her watch. Ten minutes exactly. Damn she's good. But when she actually steps into the office, she sees that everyone else is already there. She and the other two may have been right on time, but the others apparently felt that being early was better than being clean. 'Damn. Shoulda waited till after the briefing. Oh well.' She acknowledges each of the people present in order of rank, nodding to first Chalmers, then Renner, and then Agathon.

"Nice work out there, Ell Tee." She tells the - for all intents and purposes - rookie, as she takes a seat.

"I'm going straight to hell!" Jordan mumbled to herself as Ryse took off in front of her. She was quick, Jordan would be the first to admit that and at her age now, she had to be twice as good as she was twenty years ago to keep up. By the time they reached Chalmers door, Ryse had already gotten in and all comfy and all Jordan could do was skid to a halt outside the door and pretend decorum as she walked in. She gave all of those present a polite nod then a quick tip of the brow with her right hand to Chalmers. "Ma'am."  The woman liked formality in small doses. Jordan was also about to apologise for being late when she noticed the clock on the wall, about ten seconds past the minute. She took a vacant chair next to Ryse and in between Teya.

"The boy can talk." Lucille was taken aback somewhat by the young man's little speech. As a newly minted rookie his knowledge of the program seemed to be rather well rounded and that he had a desire to be attached to the Atlantis mission came as no surprise either. She had to ask herself though, was he a mind reader as well? Was she dealing with a telepath? "We'll see Lieutenant, I can only put forward my recommendations and your request, ultimately its up to Admiral Davidson as I am sure you can appreciate."

As she spoke Commander Renner made her appearance in good time, Lucille waved her in, bidding her to take a seat. A few moments after her arrival, Collins and O'Neil brought up the rear. The clock and their faces told Lucille they had just made it in the nick of time- right on the ten minute mark.

Anticipating the briefing, Lucille had already ordered the gun camera videos to be sent to her and those she had ready to use with the debriefing. Collins would by her presentation must have taken the scenic route via the PX store and she had no qualms with that. Neatly turned out and casual for an off duty Sunday was preferable to Lucille than unkept or soiled uniform, that showed a degree of forethought and class in her view.

"Collins, Commander." She acknowledged both, disregarding O'Neil's salute, the woman knew that was unnecessary. There was one last to arrive, Turcotte, whom Lucille thought she could hear the footsteps of not far away. "Before we start the debrief, there are clipboards with pens note paper for you all over there on the bureau by the wall. My talks are generally rather long as Commanders O'Neil and Renner can attest to. Today unfortunately I don't have the time which I'm sure you can all appreciate. What I will be asking of you all first up, is did we do well? Could we have done better?" Lucille knew the answer to both questions. Hearing it from your subordinates gave you a different perspective.

Teya slid into a chair as Lucille motioned her in.  She nodded to the others as they came in one at a time.  Teya bit back a giggle at Lucille's words.  Her speeches could be long.  Teya got up to retrieve the pens, clipboards, and paper, handing it out to everyone.

She shook her head.  "Coulda gone better.  We nearly got our butts kicked," Teya said, not at all happy about that.

Jon gulped nervously looking around at the girls coming in. He blushed a little especially when Ryse was speaking to him so all he could do was nod swiftly letting her know that he got it. It hit him right there as he took about look around. He was in a girl club especially since hes the only guy in the office. He accepted the pen and paper from Teya as he mumbled to Teya bashfully, "Thank you, ma'am."

Jon focused his attention to the paper before him and licked the tip of his pen before he started jotting down what he could write up because for the moment he had nothing to say. He never did well talking in a room full of girls. If only Akela was here then he would feel a little better, but right now he was feeling a little bit queasy. Of course, he would probably wait till all the girls said their pieces and he would add his own.

"Just listen first and then speak. That ways, you have the open field advantage of not screwing up if you are picked last," Akela would say to him. Of course. She was right, Most of the time.

{ Captain Ryse Collins }

Ryse notices the General's assessment of their outfits and reassesses her earlier thought. 'Like I said; good call.' She's about to stand to retrieve the clipboard when the Commander decides to hand them out instead and give her a grateful smile and nod.

"Well, while I can't argue with that, it's not like we had a whole lot of warning, or personnel available to fight." The captain comments. "I'd say under the circumstances, we did rather well. Especially since we did come out with our asses still in tact in the end. Plus one, in fact." She exclaims. "That's what I'd really like to know - where the hell did that other guy come from?"

Turk slips into the room right behind O'Neil, making a face at Ryse for taking off before taking the offered clipboard and pen from the Commander- "Thanks"- and finding a seat. She decides that since it is kind of her first day, first flight, and first debrief, that she needs to keep her mouth mostly shut and see how these things go. Ryse can take the lead on this one.

She settles in, making sure the pen writes by adding her name and rank, the date, and the occasion (Post Combat Debrief) on the paper. 'Hang on tight, here we go,' she thinks as she looks up at Chalmers while Ryse asks her question. 'She's not the only one who wants to know. I'm not sure I'll understand it, but at least I can write it down and look it up later...'

Jordan to, took the pad and pen gratefully from Teya, giving her a polite whispered 'Thanks'. She did have quite a bit to add, but since Chalmers said she didn't have the time, O'Neil could be brief. "General ma'am, we were lucky. Lucky in that he LA are lousy pilots and for the most part they are ignorant farmers pressed into service as we know. Had they been well trained Jaffa, well I doubt any of us here would be talking about it. Frankly, we're outnumbered here..." Her eyes met the others keenly. "...damn you guys are good though." All she wanted to do right now was to get plastered and laid in that order.

"I'll take that under advisement Commander." The woman was all too often somewhat blunter in her appraisal of things, nonetheless O'Neil did say what was needed to be said. Lucille for her part thought things went squirrely from the very moment the alarm was raised. They were undermanned, unprepared and for what it was worth given a slightly different set off circumstances, the enemy in this case could have walked it in, with barely any resistance at all. Things had to change quickly or the next time they could see their backsides getting burned severely. "While I would appreciate a much longer debrief and discussion on this from all of you, there is little point in it now. In your own time, write up your mission reports so that I can make a proper assessment in due time. For now you're dismissed, unless there is more any of you can add, the rest of the day is yours. Captains Collins and Turcotte, I want to thank you personally for your efforts on such short notice."  Of course they all did well, better than expected and that couldn't go unsaid either. "All of you did well, far more than could have been asked of you. Be sure that it will be mentioned." A little colour added to their ribbons never went astray in her mind.

Lucille's head started to ache just a bit, one of those typical after mission headaches coming on. Yet she still had her job to do and one of those needed addressing sooner rather than later. The appearance of Collins, Turcotte and young Agathon presented an answer she may well be able to focus on immediately. "Captain Collins, would you mind staying for just a moment please."

Teya took her seat again once everyone had their tablets and pens.  She did have to agree.  Things could have gone a whole lot worse.  This hadn't been good at all.  They needed to fix this problem before anything else happened.

Teya got to her feet, waiting for Jordan.  "So what are you up to now?" She asked, holding her tablet against her.

Sometimes you had to move your booty quicker than at other times. Rachel knew how to do that when it was necessary of course, still, she was just a eeny weeny bit puffed when she arrived at Chalmers office. When she finally got there and saw who was with the 'Boss', her eyes opened up widely. "Ryse?" She said angrily under her breath. She thought the woman either dead or at least far, far away, and should have stayed that way. For a brief moment, Rachel almost forgot why she was there, she couldn't take her eyes of the other woman. Then of course duty overtook her, so she knocked lightly on the door. "General Ma'am. Can I disturb you for a moment please?" It looked like the meeting was over anyway, yet she still felt nervous here.

Jon gulped and bit his lips a bit. The meeting and briefing was over. He focused his attention onto the tablet and studied his pen for a moment. He had a lot to think about and he will write his report down for the General later on. Getting up, he turned to leave when another woman barged in and blocked his path. He shifted nervously in front of her and stood on the side of the doorway waiting for her to be acknowledged by the general. Apparently he wasn't quick enough to leave when this woman barged in and blocked his way out.

She seemed nervous as well so he was wondering what was the matter.

Turk scribbled down a few notes, mainly to remind herself to become more familiar with how this particular outpost was structured, the types of ships they'd been fighting, and to follow up on the question of where their unexpected guest had come from. Chalmers called the briefing at that point, and Turk tucked the pen and pad under her arm and stood up with a brief salute when they were officially dismissed. She hung back as the others began to exit, waiting for Ryse to finish speaking with the general, when another staff member came to the door and knocked softly to get the general's attention. She looked medical, if Turk surmised the uniform correctly. Between that and the timing of her arrival, it only made sense that she was here in regarding their new arrival.

Turk stayed where she was, quietly observing. She might get at least one of her answers without even leaving the room.

How did that classic old adage go? 'It never rains but it pours?' That pretty much summed up Lucille's life in a nutshell, day after day, week in week out. She slipped her glasses on, in the vain hope it might ease her headache - very vain indeed, it did nothing of course. A voice in the wilderness broke her reverie though, looking over the top of said glasses Lucille gave her best impression of being in control. "Lieutenant, you're blocking the breeze, come in please." She didn't mean that as an insult, simply that people needed to leave; she would have said it to anyone. "What can I do for you?"

"So this must be the new guy?" Rachel mused as she blocked the door, her eyes looked Jonathon up and down like she was assessing a prize bull at the county fair. "Nice." She moved all the way in to stand in front of Chalmers desk, hands behind her back in perfect military fashion. Being aware of who was around, she didn't have to hedge around the topic at all. "That man you all picked up ma'am. He doesn't exist on any of our date bases, yet he claims to be from an SG team. His badges are all wrong and so are most of the people he mentions." That was all she could really say on the matter, although she noticed Jordan's eyes open a little wider.

The base XO felt a hard lump in her throat, why did she have this feeling of deja vu? She couldn't place it, but she was sure she had read something similar in the SGC files. "Well if that don't beat all. Have security been alerted Lieutenant?"

"Yes ma'am." Rachel nodded in the affirmative.

It was getting crowded, so Turk caught Ryse's eye and indicated the door with her head. 'I'm stepping out and will meet you when you're done.' But she was careful to hover just outside, casting a curious ear toward the conversation. 'If they didn't want anyone to know, they'd close the door. I'm not eavesdropping, I'm just waiting for Ryse.' She couldn't help but smirk a little to herself. She WAS eavesdropping, and she knew it.

The lieutenant's statement was concerning, though. 'Curiouser and curiouser. Probably won't get an answer to this one for a while, if ever.' Her mind wandered, mentally paging through the multitude of mission files she'd crammed while cooling her heels at the SGC. There was simply too much information in a jumble in her head to make sense of any of it; she'd probably need at least one more read to start getting things in their proper context, and one more after that to cement everything in proper order.

But it wouldn't be the first time someone had popped into 'their' universe from another, of that she was convinced. She frowned. Things just went from 'interesting' to 'what the hell'.

One thing was certain- she wanted to get the hell back to the SGC as soon as possible, at which point she was going to track down SOMEONE who knew what was going on and demand to know her assignment. The flight had whet her appetite and it was time to officially get to work.

{ Captain Ryse Collins }

Ryse can't help but raise a brow when Chalmers cuts the debriefing short. 'Wait, what?' She wonders if a certain underworld has suddenly gotten rather chilly. When the General acknowledges her and Turk's efforts she gives a quick nod of thanks. It really was nothing to her. All part of the job. But when she asks to see her after the meeting, the butterflies start. 'Oh crap. What did I do?' She goes over everything she'd done while up there, and mentally outlines every reason she'd done them. Had she maneuvered wrong? Left someone unprotected? She honestly can't figure it out, but she's certainly ready to defend herself. By the time she stands up and moves to the side for everyone to get past her, she has an answer for every question she could conceive the General asking.

When McAdams arrives, she's torn between relief and dread for a few reasons. Relief because it interrupts whatever bad news Chalmers has for her, and dread because 1. that means that she has to stand there and stew in her thoughts while McAdams delivers the unusual news and 2. McAdams' unusual news ... Though by now, this kind of thing isn't actually all that unusual.

Catching Turk's gesture, she gives her old friend a discrete nod indicating that she understood and grins to herself when she sees that the woman doesn't move that far from the door. 'As if I would tell you everything they said, Turk.'

"What?" Lucille slammed her hand hard on the finely polished top of her desk, she was in no mood for any possible infiltration into the recesses of the Alpha site, no matter where its origin may have been. She knew only too well that not all visitors from alternate universes, parallel universes or alternate realities were the good guys; Cameron Mitchell and SG1 could well corroborate that on any day of the week. "Commander O'Neil get down there immediately, I don't care if the man is paralysed or barely breathing - I want 'you' to watch him every second he is here. Once Mister Lucas can confirm the man is fit to be moved and - I don't care if its in a pod, I want him out of here and transferred to the SGC." That damned headache was not going to take charge of her, not now at least. Breathing in deeply she stood to continue her tirade.

Standing in front of her desk now, one hand touching her temple, Lucille went through the numbers one at a time. "Commander Renner, take Agathon and Turcotte down to the simulators now. I want you to run them through one on one combat drills, each taking turn with the four O one and the three O two. By the time they are ready to leave here, I will require your certification both of them can kill each other in less than three minutes flight time." This is what happens when a fly annoys the Alpha Site Commander, she bites back, her within her own nest. "Move it!"

Lastly, as she waited for the others to leave, she returned her attention back to Collins. Hands on hips, the mask of anger dropped as it was replaced by a more pleasant one. "If you were asked to volunteer for the Atlantis mission Captain - what do you think your answer might be?" Lucille had more to add, first though to catch a decent fish, you had to have the right bait.

Teya spun back around when she heard her name.  Apparently they weren't as free as they thought.  Well, so much for catching some R&R.  Oh well.  She nodded in response to Lucille.  "Ma'am."  She then turned to the other two.  "Come on you two, time to see what you've got," she smirked.  The simulators were always fun.  Especially when you couldn't get blown to piece for real.

She turned to head back out, waiting for the other two to follow her.

Rachel gave a shudder, Chalmers was in no mood for what she had in mind to say. She carefully looked at all the faces one by one. She knew the woman was addressing both her and Jordan at once, so there was no need for her to reply. One more look at Ryse, her mouth almost twisted in a snarl and she backed out of the doorway, heading straight for the gate room.

Eyes were up and looking straight ahead. Jordan had felt Lucille's lash more than once and knew too well she was not someone to frak around with. Nothwithstanding, despite her smaller frame, she could knock almost any other woman on their arse very quickly and a few of the guys as well. "Yes General. I'm on it." She wanted to add 'three bags full General' but refrained. She would be the happiest woman in the galaxy if her transfer was approved.

{ Captain Ryse Collins }

Ryse jumps ever so imperceptibly when Chalmers slams her desk. She'd been caught off guard by Rachel's presence and had so much going through her mind that the loud bang that resulted snapped her out of her thoughts. Seeing the woman go off, giving orders, and extremely upset, Ryse wished she could make herself as small as possible. This couldn't possibly help her situation. If she'd messed up, this was only going to make Chalmers' mood worse, and she was about to be on the receiving end of it.

The woman does manage to keep from wincing and taking a step back from the woman (only because she was already standing up against the wall) and watches as everyone - including Rachel, who sneers at her - leaves the room. Inside, Ryse gives the woman the ugliest glare back, and even sticks her tongue out at the woman. But it would certainly not do her any good to actually do that, so she settles for a neutral stare until the woman's fat arse is covered by the closing door.

She turns to Chalmers, standing tall and proud, hands resting behind her back, bracing herself for the blast that she knew was about to come. When instead, the commander's face softens into something actually pleasant, Ryse is incredibly confused. When she asks the 'hypothetical' question, she realises she'd been holding her breath and lets it out slowly, fighting hard to not just stare at the woman saying 'um ... uh ... what?' Which is actually all she can really think at the moment.

"Well ... " She says slowly, trying desperately to collect her thoughts and put her words into a coherent sentence. "I'm pretty sure my answer would be along the lines of 'When do I leave?' ... Ma'am." Now Ryse's efforts are more focused on not jumping up and down like a madwoman and screaming for Turk. Chalmers must have gotten wind that she'd put in for a transfer a while ago. But she'd never heard anything from it, and hadn't had a chance to look into it yet. Maybe that's what this was about? Ryse forces herself to breathe normally and not give away any emotion.

Jonathan jumped when the General slammed her hand on the desk and shouted. He then hiccuped speaking only to himself, "Oh shoot..."

He let out a sigh closing his eyes and muttered again, "Oh please be still my nerves..."

He opened his eyes again when Teya said something combat trials in her evil like tone with a smirk. Gulping he let out a sigh as he shrugged with a response, "Yes, ma'am."

He felt sorry and was glad he wasn't that other guy in the infirmary. No one wants to get on the bad side of the general when it comes with unknown possible infiltrators within SGC. These things never go well...

Chalmer's reaction to the lieutenant's news is a bit alarming, but after the initial start from the slam of the desk, Turk tucks it away as valuable intel on a CO she will likely have to deal with in some capacity. She's had COs that behaved much more badly on purpose AND from dawn til dusk- not just in reaction to unpleasant news. Outbursts happen, particularly when blindsided, and Chalmers *was* human, despite what she wanted people to think.

Her ears pricked up at the mention of her name, followed quickly by the words 'combat drills', 'simulators', 'four O one', and 'three O 2', as well as the fact that Chalmers was obviously well aware she was standing just outside the doorway. She stuck her head around the jamb to nod at the general. "Yes ma'am," she said to acknowledge the order, and fell in behind Renner and Agathon as they exited the room. She cast a sideways glance at Jon, wondering how someone who seemed to be afraid of his own shadow half the time made it through the corps. 'Very atypical for a marine. They're usually complete jerks and show a decided lack of self-preservation.' She pondered this for a moment as they walked. 'Hopefully he'll get over it. If he does, I might actually be able to more than tolerate him...'

"I won't keep you long Collins." Lucille assured her. At least she had hoped this conversation wasn't going to be one of those types of discussions that ended up being something that dragged on over several days with communications going back and forth between herself and the SGC. That wasn't in her plans and she was quite sure Sean had given her enough authority to make the final decisions. "Sit down please Captain." She continued talking while Ryse got herself comfortable, this was one of her more pleasant duties to be sure.

"Some three months ago the IOA with the SGC's backing asked tasked us to select possible candidates for added battle capabilities for the Atlantis mission. To be more precise, two AC401 squadrons consisting of eight aircraft, much the same as we were supposed to have here." She couldn't deny that her request was yet to be fully implemented, as Sean said earlier to her, keep pressing and it'll happen.

"As much as I would love to keep you here and the others, right now my hands are tied. So - that being so, I'm putting forward four names and I wanted to sound you out on the subject. One- " She held up a single finger. "I'm going to accept Commander O'Neil's request for transfer to Atlantis, she will be the initial Squadron Commander. Two -" She held up the second finger. "You Captain I'm recommending for promotion to Major on the proviso you have completed your promotions board assessments, which I assume you have already done so. That in effect will place you as O'Neil's two eye see." Hopefully by now Ryse's interest had gathered momentum.

"Three and finally, both Turcotte and Agathon will be assigned as the final selection for this first lead in squadron. The task of all four of you will be to teach, instruct and train crews to fill out all the other positions as well as the second squadron." With that, she sat back to wait for the expected reaction, to that aim her face told Ryse, Lucille could implement these actions within a very short notice.

The mere thought of finally getting what she wants, never mind being able to serve with Turk again has her insides bubbling and bursting and she has to fight to hold in her excitement. So the next mouthful of words to fall from the commander's lips nearly have her in tears. She tries desperately to come up with a coherant response for the General. What feels like minutes pass before sounds finally come from her.

"Um ... Major ... uh ..." She blinks, clears her throat and tries again. "Wow. I really don't know what to say, Ma'am. I'm .. honoured that you would recommend me for something like that. I mean, I put my request in for a transfer to Atlantis months ago. I just figured it hadn't been approved ..." She stops and takes a breath. Rambling. Stuttering. 'What the hell has gotten into you, Collins?'

"Even without the promotion, Ma'am, I accept. Enthusiastically." 'Can I go pack my bags now?' In her mind, Ryse has already assembled her usual lists before being deployed elsewhere, or going on a trip, or ... well ... pretty much everything she does.

There was of course always one factor in the grand scheme of things that was missing- that being the arrival of the Dreadnought. Lucille had the movements notice sitting right there in front of her and was well aware that the ships destination after her stop over here was for her to proceed to Pegasus to replace the Odyssey. The thing was, she was late and even though Lucille knew these things can happen, it was rare for her not to be informed of the reasons. She would have to rectify that of course- by going to the source and asking.

"So we can say you're rather pleased with our meeting Captain?" Of course the woman was, how else would you describe that face and reaction. "I'll do the paper work the moment you walk out of here. There is the little matter of your belongings back home and those of Turcotte's as well. I say this because the Dreadnought was due here last night and has failed to both arrive and notify me of the delay. She is being sent to Atlantis and in that it was my intention for you and those I'm assigning to go in transit with her. As of now, I understand Colonel Sheppard is at the SGC- I can contact him today to request he makes his return to Atlantis via the Alpha site and the Dreadnought. That should speed things up a little." The girls baggage of course could be sent along to them from the SGC, that shouldn't be an issue.

That being said, there was little else for either of them to do other than fill in the time while they wait. Lucille did have a mountain to do and one or more radio calls to make. "So if you've no further questions I would suggest you get down to the Simulators and see how well your new crew are doing- by the way Collins, it was an honour for me to do this." Once now and then in her life Chalmers did get to do pleasant things, this was one of those rare moments.

"We could definitely say that, Ma'am." Ryse confirms with a wide grin. When she says that Sheppard's on Earth, she really perks up. It was already going to be a treat getting to work with him and Turk again, but being able to take the trip to Atlantis with him? She can't help but think of the mischief the three of them could get into. Sure, Sheppard had ... matured a bit in his time on Atlantis, but she knew he was still a prankster and fairly laid-back leader.

"No, Ma'am, it's my honour to accept. You know .. when everything goes through, of course." She adds with a grin. She knew well how one superior's suggestion could turn into another superior's desires. But seeing as it was Sheppard who was said superior, she wasn't too concerned. Of course, she has her own opinion on the matter, but that wasn't her decision to make. She would be damned if she said anything, too. If the General thought she was capable, then she must have proven it somehow. Besides. All else fails, she had Sheppard to pass the buck to. Which would certainly be fun ...

"In case you're unaware, I move to the base some time ago, not caring to hold down an apartment in the city. So all my things are in my quarters back at the base. Should make it easy to pack things up since I pretty well kept everything in order." She informs her, ready to pounce on Turk, but waiting politely to be officially dismissed.

Gratification came in many ways in this age- seeing a happy officer was one of them for Lucille. One could say she had changed slightly over the last few years, less aggressive, less in your face. That wasn't totally true, she simply knew when to give and when to take, when to dish it out and when to hold back. It was all about diplomacy and that extended down the line as far as the rawest recruit.

"I can see it all over your face Captain, much akin to a five year old girl getting her first Barbie doll, or in my case GI Joe." Strangely that was true, you can blame her father for that. "Get those promotion board assessments done in good time and you'll be wearing those acorns within a month. For the moment you will have all the entitlements and accords that go with the rank. Lieutenant Colonel Sheppard will have your file by the time you reach Atlantis, so nothing more needs to be done there."

Now that was out of the way, Lucille needed to set the wheels in motion. "My clerk will contact the SGC and make the arrangements for your things to be sent through, I would assume Captain Turcotte is in the same position, so we'll kill tow birds with one stone. That will be all Captain." At this point Lucille stood, that old CO's signal letting her people know it was time to let loose. "Go see if you can create some havoc with your new wing mates with my blessing." Certainly its what a younger Lucille Chalmers would do.

That one little radio call over Lucille's radio intercom was as pleasant as rain on a hot summer's day. "Well 'Major', it looks like we'll be going the same way. I'll have to suspend the simulation training forthwith." She leaned over her desk, pressing the appropriate button. "Thank you Israel, tell them we'll be expecting them. Ryse grins. She, too, was far more excited about a GI Joe than a Barbie doll. She'd been a Tom-boy all her life, and her entrance into the military certainly didn't surprise any of her family or friends.

"They're already complete, Ma'am. In fact, I completed them when I put in for a transfer, just in case." She grins widely. The promotion was going to be amazing. Of course, she now had extra responsibility, but that's fine. She knew it would have to happen. She just hopes she doesn't let anyone down. At least she knows she'll have Turk with her. And Shep. though he'd be the one tearing into her if she screws up.

Ryse is on her feet almost at the exact timing as the General. She's always been the observant time and had that down to a science. But before she can say 'Yes, Ma'am.' there's a radio call that the Alpha Site was about to have guests. When the General refers to her as Major, she gets butterflies and this time, can't stop the ear-to-ear grin from forming. She steps to the side, allowing the CO to get past her and quickly falls into step with her.

It had been both a tiring and stressful day for Lucille, she was on the verge of a headache and that was only the beginning of what she knew was going to be a difficult nights sleep. Yet she was a stickler for holding onto old adages and in this case it was one of simply 'soldier on' which she was quietly doing when the knock at the door came to her ears; dressed now in her clean day uniform of khaki, she promptly sat at her desk with her arms laying straight out in a regulation manner on top. "Enter." That was all she needed to say.

Giving an incline of his head to the soldier as he passed the doorway he straigtened to attention in front of the desk as he came fully inside, though he caught himself before saluting as he had in the SGC Office. "Lieutenant Colonel Donovan Lee SG6 lead reporting for reassignment, Sir."  He quietly took the folded requisition and straightened it, and set it on a section of desk that didn't have anything on it then straightened again, staring at a spot on the far wall.

With his duty done and nothing he could say, Alex turned smartly from the door, returning to his post. As he walked the long hallways, his mind went over a few things, the first was who was going to replace Chlamers and the second was, what was this Lee going to be like in O'Neil's shoes; both were hard women and both had pulled this base into line where it was left wanting at times.

Briefly Lucille stood, a Marine's matter of ceremony as it were. "Take a seat please Lieutenant Colonel there is much to discuss before Colonel Davis arrives and with you here now it will save me having to repeat myself." She sat back down again, slid the paperwork across, placing it in front of her; she would of course read it more carefully later, as for now she knew the content since it was approved by her in any case. "Welcome to the SGC's Alpha Site by the way."

She began. "You and of course Colonel Davis are being placed here for two reasons the first of course is the replacement of both myself and Commander Jordan O'Neil. The second reason for you specifically is because I asked for a Marine and only three names came up, yours was my selection and for good reason which you'll find out shortly." She drew her hands back, clasping them together in a loose knot, looking at him directly she asked. "Before we proceed further, I need to ask one simple question. How do you get along with women?" A curious question, but one that needs asking if his tenure here is to be successful.

Donovan moved into one of the seats with his customary boneless grace, sitting with upright posture and candid expression listening to the General speak.  When she specified she'd been looking for Marines to replace the current staff, he wondered if perhaps they were looking to militarize the Alpha site rather than use it as an extension of the more scientific and exploration aspects the SGC was operating under. When she asked her question however, his brow lifted on one side and he took a second to adjust to the oddity of it.

"Sargent Sorijevo..." he began, pausing and clarifying in a softer tone, "Emily... I count among one of the few people I first trusted implicitly, outside General O'neill, Doctor Jackson and Master Teal'c.  Commander Carter never ... well... I was of no interest to her, and I was relocated before any working relationship would have ever surfaced.  Gender has no issue with me, unless it is used an excuse not to accomplish something."

He recalled the small party of figures departing the gate room's control center, and wondered if perhaps this was why she asked him such an odd question.  Then he had to remind himself, most earth men, and military men specifically, had some strange issue with females not being their equal.  Where he came from this was not the case, all were considered equally lesser, equally insignificant in the eyes of the Ori.  He wondered if she had read his restricted file, or just the public military record.

"Good," She grunted in almost a parody of monosyllabic drill instructor and she looked pleased about it to. "- because the people of this world and I mean the native peoples are a matriarchal society, they are led by a woman and ruled by women, to the extent that seventy percent of their armed forces are women and girls." A slight pause. "Cross a women here, or insult one and it could end badly. That is not to say their men are weak, far from it as you'll find out in time. One other thing Colonel, though at first sight these people may look as if they're stuck in a time warp as they appear to be right out of one of Earth's earlier periods in history; they're not. They have technology of their own and medicines we need to learn, they simply choose to live in a more mundane way, much as I suspect like where you came from." Lucille was more than aware of Lee's history.

For a moment she went silent, only because she felt he had to see something and in that she retrieved a photo from her drawer. "This was taken by a helmet cam from one of our Marines last year when he inadvertently said the wrong thing. The woman in this photo in the leader of the El Cavaleiros, the Rainha as they call her, Josile Senatal. I thought you'd find it amusing." She pushed the photo over to him.

Donovan reviewed the picture, arching one brow faintly and set it back on the desk without comment.  He'd seen worse, hell he'd trained worse.  Women were as quick to take offense of their status as any men were capable of, that was not news.  What was news, was that the Alpha site was a co-inhabited world.  He was under the impression that the Alpha site was a secret retreat in case of dire emergency on Earth, not a shared world they had to maintain political alliances with.

As she spoke of duties, he inclined his head for her to continue, his expression and posture remaining stoic and silent.

The first and foremost thing Lucille noticed with Lee was his almost steadfast resolve to talk little and while she would expect this of an enlisted person or more junior officer, she did expect senior officers to be slightly more forthcoming. She could though in respect understand Lee in particular considering his background and the unfamiliarity of his venture into the Alpha Site. "Your primary duties are as per standing orders of the SGC for base executive officers, that is essentially you are the commanders right hand. On top of this, you will be required to oversee the day to day running of SG teams and that I might add will be going up a notch as the SGC transits almost fifty percent of team operations through here. You do of course have the responsibility of your own team as noted in my brief." Lucille flicked over pages, going back and forth to highlight in her own mind everything possible he needed to know.

"Protection of this base will be your top priority. Liaison with the local militia in area defense, overseeing any search and rescue missions that may arise. This is due to essentially maintaining good relations with the Cavaleiros; they have a fairly modern fishing fleet thanks to our assistance and in that, boats do at times get into grief, plus the normal SAR missions that may crop up." She sat back thinking of a few other 'smallish' matters. "Base discipline is strictly under your purview Colonel, but you do have a capable commander of the base police and security branch in Major Phillip Finch US Army. One small thing that may come to your attention under this warrant and that is some of the facilities in Foreston, the first being Judy's bar. So long as the woman maintains a reputable establishment, we turn a blind eye to ninety percent of what goes on down there. The second thing is the 'Spartan Fight Club' in the markets, you will see the occasional black eye on your staff; if that is the worst that comes of it, you don't know it exists am I clear on that?" There were good reasons for that and most of those were to do with base morale, that little club has been an ideal venting place for some time now and in that Lucille has made good use of it.

"This is the current Base roster if you'll care to look it over. It will of course be updated when my tenure expires. Some of those assets will be added to shortly I understand." The General pushed over an A4 sheet of paper for the Colonel's own use.

For a moment Donovan looked over the roster file, leaving the A-4 untouched as he burned the information into memory as he did much of anything he read or saw. It was something all but beaten into anyone from where he was, as writing was restricted to the Book for the most part, and it was only by the grace of Tolmen that he knew how to do either himself.

The muscle of his jaw worked briefly as the General gave a brief and obviously condensed synopsis of his new role, once transitions were completed. When she spoke of local militia he stiffened and straightened further, setting the roster back down and fought not to let the frown cross his stoic face, breathing in slowly and letting it out through his nose in almost imperceptible attempt to calm himself.

"With all due respect, Sir, I was told I was being transferred to replace the flagship team for Alpha Site... the base... not the planet it was on, or any indigenous people.  If they were here before Earth set up a base, then they have their own ways of defense that should suffice, and our two forces should not be intermingled.  I understand there are politics involved, but when you mix military protocol with political endeavors, nothing goes straight. They are two rivers needing their own course, and outlet. "

He shook his head slowly, "As you say, my priority is this base and it's protection.  Part of that protection is it's security and safety." He put a finger on the roster file, "These people can be accounted for, their presence tracked, and recorded.  Transit of SG teams through the Ancestral Ring can be monitored and safeguarded... an unknown, outside influenced group of people I have no direct authority over, or any safe way of keeping track of their movements in and out of this base without potential political backfire, is an unacceptable breach of security."

Lowering his hand, he folded it in his lap, back and shoulders straight and face impassive as his tone had been.  While anyone looking or listening to him would assume calm and composed, anyone looking into those flint blue eyes would see the intensity that had put him in the position of leading tens of thousands of warriors in the past.

The General raised an eyebrow at Lee's response to her introduction, it wasn't a very pleased eyebrow at that, she did feel though that she needed to quantify some of points. "First and foremost Colonel the correct address is Ma'am or General, never sir. I've not had a sex change recently and I don't intend to. Secondly, I did say 'area' defence; in other words if and when Foreston or any other of the Cavaleiros' towns and settlements are threatened we have and will continue to offer support and protection for them. Their safety and continued prosperity is to our advantage as I am sure you can understand as we are after all their guests here. The Stargate is still officially their property, we're simply making use of it, though I do see your immediate question as being logical. You have nothing to fear, they rarely have a need to use it and when they do, its generally when one of their conscripts are attached temporarily to one of our SG teams."

There were several other topics Lucille needed to address, though she wished to meet his first concern. "You will in fact be creating the Flag ship team as in the past all SG teams transiting through here have been under the Command of the SGC, but as I indicated earlier that is changing so in effect your team will be the first permanent team to be based here. We envisage at least five teams to begin with." So far most everything had been covered except one small detail.

"Last but not least, the mining operation here. It runs itself essentially without our interference and they do have their own security set up. If they're in trouble, they'll call you. I think that is about all for now, there may be other smaller details which I am sure you'll get up to speed on as time passes."

He mentally sighed a moment.  Outwardly, all he did was blink slowly, and when she was done speaking he stood and inclined his head and partially his upper body in a gesture that closely resembled when Jaffa bowed to one another, his eyes no longer on her, but on the far wall behind her as he straightened.

"If there's nothing else, General, I need to establish my own registration, and rest before Colonel Davis arrives for debrief." It was becoming clear why he and his team were assigned here, even though she'd said he'd been hand picked from a short list for specific reasons, said reasons were not specified unless he'd missed something.  In either case it didn't matter, he was here, and he'd do his job.  He stood at attention ignoring the fatigue from the Hong Kong mission still fresh on his mind, and waited dismissal or further dress down.

She could see the look on the man's face, a look she had seen all too often over the last three and half years and here she was only an hour or so ago trying to impress upon Jaworski and McFearson that she had changed somewhat. Still the old Tigeress was around every now and then to assert her authority, but it never hurt to ease off a little. "You'll do well Donovan, I've read your file inside out and back to front." Her use of the familiar was necessary, she'd learned from the best in both Landry and O'Neill, some days you have to put the cast iron in the cupboard and lock it away for a while. "I'll see you again shortly, but yes for now go and do what you need to do. Unfortunately Commander O'Neil won't be back until tomorrow sometimes, she's presently conducting a training exercise on the gun range. What I will do is find one of our old hands to show you around." That would either be Ovrachenko or MacGregor, possibly both of them; something to keep them busy.

The change in tone and tact wasn't lost on him, letting him know his face and composure wasn't as blank as he'd thought.  Something to work on.  He wasn't sure what to make of her commentary of reading his file so thoroughly, slang euphemisms sometimes got past his comprehension even after all this time. When she mentioned being escorted, he debated putting it off, but thought better of it.  Compliance served better.

"As you wish General." Again the slight dip and incline of head and upper body, and then straightening, waiting for her to call said escorts or send him where he would find them.

"I'll see who's free at the moment to show you around, being Sunday we only have duty personnel on the base with a few visiting from the Dreadnought. Give me a moment." As she spoke Lucille did two things, one she went through the attendance roster and secondly she was scrolling through the CCTV video feeds. In doing that she saw Hughes, Ovcharenko and Commander Wettin heading back in from topside. She also noticed Annie Horowitz walking back to her office from the ladies room on that level, so it was a coin toss. While the first two were no longer base staff, they did know the Alpha site better than most and it was highly probable they knew places even Lucille wasn't aware of, despite her three years plus in being here; as well they both looked a little bored, so her coin toss went one way. "I have two for you." That was more or less a spoken thought as she leaned forward to press the base PA switch on her console.

"Lieutenant Colonel Ovcharenko and Squadron Leader Hughes to the CO's office STAT." She realised earlier she had still been referring to Catherine by her maiden name, somethings were hard to change. "While we wait for them Colonel, do you have any questions?"

Donovan remained standing a moment as she used the PA to call in people.  He didn't know or recognize either name, but then again, he didn't really interact with anyone he wasn't assigned to do so with.  All the better to avoid potential pitfalls with social quirks he didn't understand.

When she asked if he had questions, he shook his head faintly, and folded hands behind his back, moving from attention to at ease with a practiced fluidity, as well as taking a half step back from the chair to move out of the line of sight of the doorway.

<<From gate room>>

Being who and what she was, the ever ready runner, Cate was first to arrive ahead of her CO. As she approached the partially open door of General Chalmers, she could detect or smell another presence close by. Opening the door slowly, Cate only let her dark maned head in just enough for the general to see her and for Cate to see who was standing there; she was pleasantly surprised to see the ex Ori Lieutenant Colonel Lee. "You wanted to see me ma'am?" Cate wondered what it could be about, with him there, had she done something wrong? Her eyes drifted to his still form just for a moment only, then back to Chalmers.

Colonel Ovcharenko was right on Cate's heels. She indeed preferred not to run if she could, but if there was a need, she still could prove that the Russian Officer Corps is still up to a physical contest or two. Elena flew up the stairs leading from the Gate Room to the Chalmer's office, skipping two-three steps a time, and came to a grinding halt right next to her XO. Lena's look got a little suspicious as she noticed that Catherine, very unusual for her, is not bursting in the room but peeks through the door. Lena stood beside her, and waited, also securing eye contact with Chalmers.

The base CO stood from her desk upon Hughes and shortly after, Ovrachenko's arrival, she walked the few paces to stand near Lee, her face not giving a hint of what she expected of them and nor should she. "Not specifically Catherine. Lieutenant Colonel Elena Ovcharenko, Squadron Leader Catherine Hughes, this gentleman is Commander O'Neil's replacement. Lieutenant Colonel Donovan Lee, these two are perhaps the best guides you can of the base given the day and circumstances." She took a step or two back, for no other reason than to create a little more space. "He needs his base registration completed, his cabin allocation and a general tour of the base which I am sure you are both more than capable of." There was no requirement on her part to elaborate further, between all three they could work it out. "That will be all thank you."

Cobalt eyes settled on the first head to pop through, hands still loosely clasped behind him, otherwise still and silent as when he'd moved.  When the general made introductions, his head and most of his upper body shifted forward in that slight bow/salute.  There was something about the first woman, Catherine she'd been called, that made him pause just a moment.  A familiar sense, and one he hadn't thought he could or would notice this side of the galaxy, but he dismissed it as soon as he thought he'd felt it.

Instead, when the general dismissed him summarily, he inclined his head in silent farewell, and turned his attention to his latest assignment; making it through this first impression.

He stepped quietly out into the hall, facing the two.  His first impression of both was almost exact opposites, but his expression and body language revealed nothing.  His face was composed in a serene if stoic masque, and he did what he did best...Stand and stare with that odd intensity he managed to do.

The dark haired woman with the streak of white backed out the very instant Chalmers dismissed them, she said nothing, Cate had nothing to say and even though she knew that the General was well aware she was supposed to be dead, it was something of a let down in that she said nothing to see an apparent ghost standing there before her. Cate had heard Chalmers had mellowed, but the fact was to her she couldn't tell the difference between her attitude now and that of three years ago when she sent the 'gang' packing to all corners of Stargate Command.

Back in the hallway outside was a completely different matter, her blue green eyes met those cobalt blue eyes; she knew exactly who he was and where he came from, that at least was no secret. Yet he looked at her as if he knew her, even though she couldn't ever recall passing him in the SGC or anywhere else...that familiarity lingered though. "Cate." She said abruptly holding out her right hand. "Your appearance matters not," She said, "Only the truth of spirit in your heart." Why she said that and why she said it in his own language escaped her, the words simply sprang from her mouth. "I'm sorry, I have no idea sometimes lately what I'm saying." The apology was sincere and so was the blush on her cheeks.

Lucille started the day as she did every other day since she took over command of the Alpha site, that was a five kilometer jog of the immediate base perimeter. The moment she returned to her office/suite, she showered, put on a clean set of BDU's and began the long task of packing, not that she was leaving immediately, she simply wanted to be ready when the time came. Paul would have to use a VIP suite for at least a day or two before the official hand over.

Donovan came down the hall leading the way to the general's door, pausing outside to knock on the frame, and then turned to stand beside it at-ease as Paul swept off his hat and tucked it and the file folder under the arm holding the suitcase so his hand would be available.

"Come in Paul." Lucille had just finished packing some of her local trinkets in a cardboard box from the bookshelf behind the desk, the small centre mirror giving her a good view of the door, allowing her to see behind. Standing upright and arching her back, she turned to meet him, crossing the short distance from the desk to the door, which required stepping around bags and more boxes. "You haven't changed much in three years while I've added a hundred more grey hairs." Lucille took his hand, shaking it firmly. "Come, both of you, sit down. There is a lot to talk about and I know its six months late, but I was sorry to hear about your accident, how is the leg now?" She asked. Word of Paul's helicopter crash had spread right back to the alpha site, and his forty eight hour missing in action status. It did though come at a difficult time, right on the same day as the Hozgura attack.

After shaking her hand and stepping inside the office, Paul gave his usual smile and swept a hand over close shorn hair showing only the faintest salt and pepper stubble along the temples "Trick to not showing age... don't let it grow out enough."  When she mentioned the accident, he tried for a gallant shrug and shifted subjects smoothly; years serving in the shark tank that was the combination of military intelligence, worldwide politics and governments has it's perks.

He gestured to the seats and set the case he was holding down, still carrying the file carrier "Six months sounds about right.  I've already gone over the duty roster and standby orders on requisitions with Admiral Davidson." He sat and gestured for Donovan to at least come in and close the door as invited before continuing. "What I'm interested in is why this was labeled Alpha site instead of Beta ... I've been tucked away in an ice locker for the better part of a tour so ... forgive me if I sound blunt.  Alpha sites in the past were chosen with specific criteria in mind; isolated, uninhabited, and unknown."

Raising the file folder he unzipped it and thumbed through a few things as Donovan stood near the door after closing it behind him resuming the at-ease posture and listening.  "From these reports, not only does this base not meet any of those criteria, it's actually the fore front of a mining operation?"

There was simply no room to make it comfortable, so Lucille sat atop one of her many packed boxes in front of the desk, Paul and Donovan would have to make do as best as they could. "This would be number four in our conga line of Alpha sites as you would recall, the three previous ones having been either destroyed or compromised. Back in 08 when the last one was taken out it was deemed that we still needed a fall back position for Earth, at the time the SGC chose this site the Stargate was some twenty miles to the North, isolated and never used by the locals; to that point a small oversight was that our aerial surveys were never fully implemented such was the dramas we were having at the time with the Ori and Lucian Alliance." Her mind was going over the short history of the base as she saw it, a lot of which was that she inherited from the previous commander. "When General Blue and his initial team were in place, the concept was simply getting the base up to a viable situation to house and protect around one hundred personnel, both military and civilian. It wasn't long after he arrived the ruins of the old town of Foreston was discovered and the thinking was that at some point the Goa'uld or some other calamity had wiped out the locals. They were wrong on that score and quite a few other little details as well, essentially the entire operation was futzed to begin with. The Cavaleiros as we know them, had moved south after a devastating forest fire swept through the area, some of their long ranging patrols were met around a month after Blue arrived, from their aid was given in helping them rebuild the town, only to lose it and our first base in a flood six months after deployment here."

She went into more detail on how the new city was built further south, how the underground Ancient facility was discovered, the mining and the moving of the Stargate, finally the build up of the base to what it was today. "The mining is secondary to your purview Paul, as I told Donovan it runs itself basically with little interference from us. It just happens to be sharing the same planet. Your primary task is to run and maintain this base as if it were another SGC, the full works and dice. If anything should happen to Earth, a central government will be formed here. Other than that, your secondary task will be running a new batch of SG teams from here and of course maintaining good relations with the Cavaleiros. There is one other race here, I'll fill you in more on those later." Lucille tapped her temple for a second as if drawing out more information. "All SG team training is now done on this base, Lieutenant Colonel Donovan has that under his belt as well." Of course there was the official handover tomorrow, that required organisation in as much a full base parade would be held.

Paul listened with his usual intensity, nodding and occasionally jotting in the open folder, but otherwise let her get it all out without interruption.  When she mentioned the Ori, Paul's eyes briefly cast sidelong but neither Donovan's face or posture registered any flinch at the topic, and he returned attention to Chalmers.  He showed interest at the relic discovery, having been taking part in cataloging and discovering the Antarctic base he was no stranger to such things.  In fact he looked forward to it now, having assumed this would be another hole in the ground on the edge of space.

When she mentioned the training of SG teams would fall to Donovan, Paul glanced sidelong again, this time with a faint curve of his lips. "Well that should prove interesting.  From what I have heard we haven't had a stricter instructor since Jack and Teal'c."

Donovan's chin faintly rose, taking the jibe as a compliment rather than an attempt to rib him, and gave a gallic shrug, neither confirming or denying the 'accusation' of his strictness.  Paul's attention returned to Chalmers as he folded the case closed and reached for the suitcase.

"The Admiral told me to give you his best and that he'd be looking forward to seeing you when you return to the SGC." He paused, case half open on his lap, "That is if you are going back there?  He didn't tell me where everyone was shuffling off to."  Rummaging in the case was a stalling tactic, Donovan knew.  Paul knew where every piece of paper, pen and paperclip was in that case he was sure, and when he came back up from rummaging he had his own registration forms already complete, signed and filed, to hand over to her for said return trip.

If there was anyone on the Stargate roster Donovan could work with, it was this man, who valued the service of the role he filled as much as the importance of it.  He'd seen that early on, even before he was released from the cells beneath the mountain. Seeing Paul show interest in the goings on outside the base relieved him.  He could focus on the base, it's small complement of people, and the missions, and let Paul deal with everything else.  The tight set of his shoulders eased some, and his at-ease posture now resembled the label.

"It may well do so Paul as I've requested SG4 to remain here for a while, they've been reduced to just the commander and her executive officer for the moment with one of their number still recovering back at the SGC from a wound and their last member so far unreplaced. They'll be tasked with helping Colonel Lee and his team acquaint themselves with both the base and the locale, as well as assisting in the team training."

Lucille crossed her legs once, then again the other way, the box wasn't the most comfortable seat for her. "He must be feeling the pressure I'm sure, I only spoke to him two days ago, although it was rather rushed then so its barely a moment even in my mind. As of now, my next post is apparently Home World Command as overall Inspector General on all Stargate Operations, which means I'll be moving about quite a lot between the SGC, here and Atlantis as well as ship visits. As well I've also been tasked with the unenviable position of Military Liaison between Stargate Command and the IOA; I can tell you now its something that while being a daunting prospect I think I will enjoy it in some sadistic way." Lee was yet to meet his predecessor and now would be a good time for him to get to grips with some of the workings of the base. "Commander O'Neill as I told the Colonel earlier is conducting a Marine training exercise, I think it might be a good time to see how devious he can be at throwing curved balls don't you Paul? Other than Jordan herself, none of the group out there should be aware of his presence." Finally she had to give in to her back and stood once more.

Paul snapped the case shut and stood out of reflexive habit as she did. Setting the case in the chair, he nodded and extended his hand once more to Chalmers.

"Then with your permission, I'll go kick the hornet's nest." He paused, "You have any of the modified Intar weapons?"

Donovan faintly straightened when Chalmers stood, and quirked a brow at the idea of introducing himself by ambushing a group of trainees. It wasn't exactly his ideal first impression, but if he was to be in charge of said training, he wasn't out to make friends, so it wouldn't really matter.  He remained silent as Paul inquired about the jaffa energy training weapons.  He'd seen and even used a few before he'd been shipped out to 'normal' military training.

It would be a first impression all right.

Giving a firm handshake in return, Lucille mentally noted to herself that the base and its operations were going to be in good hands and that was something she had been pinning her hopes of for quite some time now, ever since in fact she learned of her transfer over two months ago. "We certainly do Paul, you'll find everything required in the main armory. I must point out though that this is a live firing exercise and those boys if felt threatened will do all they can to stay within the safety of their vehicle. I know you had four of these in Antarctica so you can brief Colonel Lee on them before he and his team proceed." Lucille reached over to her desk to pick up her tablet, tapped several icons to bring up the file on the LRPV (http://lostworlds.megabytetechsolutions.org/index.php?topic=1596.0). "I'll notify Jordan to have the team swap out to INTAR hand weapons before they initiate the exercise."

She was about to pick up the phone when she thought of Catherine and Lena."Take SG4 with you as well Donovan, they've been down this merry road before."  The phone was a bit of a stretch but she did manage it finally. Speed dialing the Gunnery range had the phone ringing in seconds.

{CPO Miki Sakai}

It had been several hours since Miki had awoken her 'boss', several sad hours at that as when Lucille informed her personal steward and general assistant that she was moving to Washington. Miki at first thought that she to would be going and although rather attached to the general, she was more attached to the Alpha site, which Lucille told her she was to stay on in any case. She knew Colonel Davis by sight, having bumped into him once or twice back at the SGC and she knew his reputation as to be a kind and decent man as well. Her calling now, was simply to bring Lucille's morning coffee and the papers she needed to sign for yesterdays logs, a duty which would tomorrow fall to Colonel Davis. She was only slightly surprised to see another officer present. She tapped lightly on the door with one hand, balancing the tray with the other. Presently she was wearing the base soft green multi cams.

Lucille looked up when she heard the knock on the door, instinctively she knew who it was even before she saw Miki- the woman had several things going for her. The first of course was her impeccable timing, her efficiency in everything she did and of course she made the best coffee on the base. "Miki come in girl please." A quick sweep of the hand cleared a portion of the table for the steward to place the tray down, a nice touch as always was the freshly made hot bread rolls from the kitchen and some marmalade to go with it. "Colonel Davis, this is Chief Petty Officer Miki Sakai, your steward and first assistant. Miki is the person you call on for just about everything you can't or don't want to handle yourself." She looked through the sheets of paper, most of which were requisitions of some sort. "Miki, Colonel Paul Davis and his new executive officer Lieutenant Colonel Donovan Lee."

Picking up the phone again, the General spoke her mind to Jordan. "Commander, your replacement Lieutenant Colonel Donovan Lee is here. He will be joining you on the training exercise but I do not want your people to know. Swap out their small arms for intar weapons and explain to them that 'perhaps' red forces maybe giving them something to think about." She waited for a reply.

Paul arched a brow faintly at the introduction, mentally attributing the petty officer as he would what Walter did back at the SGC.  Even though he was a Master Sergeant now, he still did everything from coffee and paperwork to night watch.  He glanced over and gave a quiet smile since Chalmers was still on the phone, listening though mostly observing.

Donovan sidestepped out of the woman's way, keeping hands loosely clasped behind his back, inclining his head when introduced but otherwise remaining his usual silent composed self.  It had been a running joke at one point that he and Teal'c could stand in a room, completely silent for over an hour and nod to each other when leaving as if they'd had a full conversation.

They both waited for the result of the call.

Miki placed the tray on the table as indicated, stepping away politely to reveal the three porcelain cups with the alpha site logo printed on them; she had anticipated the general's every move and wish before hand. She gave each man a half bow and spoke softly but firmly. "A pleasure to meet you Colonel Davis San, Lieutenant Colonel Lee San." She stood erect once more. "General San, the weather forecast is for westerly winds at around two PM, at approximately sixty to seventy knots. It will be felt greatest off Surefires point. The Cavaleiros has put out warnings, but two fishing vessels left before the forecast." Straight to the point, and not a particularly good one either.

Paul frowned, doing quick calculation in his head, then turned to Chalmers. "That's mid range F1 hurricane ... is that normal?" then back to the steward. "What kind of boats?  Would they be able to ride it out or are they more primitive scooners?" It was clear Paul was already taking the position and responsibility keenly.

Donovan however, arched a brow and glanced from the Colonel to the Steward. "Such winds would make an interesting field excersize...will they reach as far inland as the range" clearly undaunted by the prospect of scaring recruits in horrible weather as well as any other state.

"Damn it, those idiots!" Lucille swore, it was bad enough that Earth had provided the Cavalieros with the technology to build capable trawlers, it was worse when they didn't respect the sea as much as they did their horses. "For this time of year yes, we're smack bang in the middle of the Monsoon season and they know it better than we do. In the past they trusted their instincts, but since we were kind enough to help them build one hundred ton diesel trawlers, they think that now some of them are invincible. Miki, get Commander Renner immediately, I want her and the SAR team sitting in their chopper five minutes ago."

Doing several things at once, Lucille answered Jordan in mid conversation. "I'll pass it along Jordan, be advised we're going to be getting some serious wind force around fourteen hundred hours from the west." She replaced the phone to speak once more to Lee. "Hopefully the coastline forests will soften the blow Lee, yet it will still be at around twenty to thirty miles an hour. Commander O'Neil asks that you and your team enter via the south west gate, she'll set the data base so you can use the palm sensor on the lock." There was something else on her mind, something that could spoil everyone's day. "Keep Squadron Leader Hughes busy, don't let her be idle for a second, I believe she may be suffering some anxiety concerning her husband. Do that and you' won't have any headaches."

To Paul since he wasn't officially the base CO, this was an excellent chance for him to get first hand knowledge of base operations. She'd no sooner tasked Miki with locating Teya, Lucille saw the woman herself arrive.  "Commander Renner, your air group commander could possibly use an experienced co-pilot in these conditions, what do you think?"

Teya had managed to get back and get changed just in time to be called down to Lucille's office.  Uh-oh, what had she done this time?  She was on time.  Now wasn't the time to ask questions though.  She just hurried down to Chalmers office before she got in more trouble.  She slid into the office a few minutes later.  "Ma'am?" she said respectfully.  She raised a brow questioningly as she hadn't heard everything that was going on.  "Yes ma'am, I would believe so," she answered.

The moment the General gave the order, Miki's hand was going to her pocket for her phone, she could page Teya from here and no sooner was that device in her hand when the Commander arrived. Good timing, she thought. "Commander Renner San." She bent her head slightly, stepping back a few steps, as much as Lucille's packed things would allow her.

Paul had no idea what the General was up to but the other two women seemed to know what they were in for.  Securing his briefcase and file folder, he tucked his hat once more under his arm and gave a nod to Chalmers. "General if you'll excuse me for a few moments."

The only thing Lucille could do was shake her head, she wasn't anywhere near finished when both Davis and Lee dismissed themselves from her presence. She had half a mind to smell her armpits to check for body odor, but thought better of it in the sense that she dismissed them both as having 'newbie' nerves. "Good, now you can go let Paul know he can ride shotgun with you. It may or may not come to anything, still as we've seen in the past, its better we're prepared than caught off guard as I for one don't want a repeat of last summer's fiasco." Four fishing boats in trouble at the same time and the Alpha site had only one serviceable Sea Hawk at the time. "Miki you go and make sure the lines are clear and that if a call comes in from Coast Guard it comes to me instantly." She looked up at both of them, blinked once as she stood clear of her baggage. "You're still here. Go, go both of you." Some things never change on this base, that was one of them.

Teya nodded.  "Got it ma'am."  She turned on her heel to go after Davis.  It would be interesting to see what the rest of this day held.  At least she had made it back on time.  She had nearly been late and judging by everything else Lucille would not have been very forgiving.

Bowing low at the waist, Miki spoke with her staple reply. "As you command general san." She had to giggle a little inwardly, as she knew only too well how both Davis and Lee might react to her, but at the same time she wasn't about to change either. Miki followed Teya out the door, only she took backwards steps.

Lucille was on the verge of taking a break from her office, to the point she was at the door when her cellphone began buzzing furiously in her shirt pocket. Taking it out quickly, her first thought was the call had come from the Coast Guard down on the lakeside, that idea though was soon put aside when she recognised the caller ID. "Captain Amirmoez is there a problem?" She was more than curious why he should be calling her.

"Luce, its me Alex. Don't say a word just listen please."

"Three of our people have disappeared Lucille, right off the street. Colonel Bixby and myself had them in sight for some five minutes before we lost them due to a large vehicle blocking our view. This is not some childish prank on their part either as much as I wish it was; we saw three shifty characters who looked remarkably like Lucian Alliance moments before we lost them."

For a very long duration of time Lucille said nothing, her mind was going over the events of the last three days, the most prominent of those was the recent attack by the Alliance."Get yourselves back her pronto Alex, there is nothing you can do down there. This is not the first time those b**tards have tried this, but it is the first time they've succeeded and you and I both know pretty well we'll hear a ransom demand from them soon. I'll get my people onto it immediately, that's the best I can do." She closed the phone without waiting for him to respond then headed directly for the briefing room.

Georg and Linde followed Lucille into her office. "We are sending a reinforced mechanized infantry brigade," he told her. "Two battalions of mechanized infantry, one battalion of tanks, a reconnaissance battalion, an artillery battalion, an engineer battalion and a regiment of attack helicopters. Later, after we get the aircraft we will also be committing a fighter wing of 46 401's. We realize that the base doesn't have the capacity to house that many troops yet so the engineers will be building temporary facilities until the base is expanded." He paused. "General, this is creating quite a whole in the Heer's equipment reserves. We are taking a very real chance with the Russians acting they way they are." He paused, then continued. "When someone has the time, I could also like to meet with the Cavalieros' leader. I would like  to establish good relations from the beginning and try to impact the planetary environment as little as possible."

"That is one hell of a show of diplomatic engagement Georg, are the Russians, or even the Chinese even aware of this commitment?" Lucille was more than taken aback by it all, not to mention the logistical nightmare of putting it all in place, or the impact so many 'Earthlings' would have on the locals. Even now her mind was seeing a massive rise in pregnancies in the very foreseeable future. "Just a moment please." Lena was calling and Lucille needed to get things rolling quickly. "Yes you are Lena and you know I don't have to add, don't break anything will you? Make sure Catherine is on top of that search, I want to hear from you or her on the matter within the hour."

"We had some brief discussions with them, and they did not seem to be interested," Georg said. "And to put it bluntly, I am glad they are not here. Both are conscript armies, not very well trained for duties such as this, and the Russian conscripts have an abominable record of behavior with the locals whenever they are outside of their home country. And both officer corps have a certain rigidity of thought that would not work out here, where quick thinking and innovation are needed." He paused and then resumed. "My daughter tells me that the Cavalieros are superb horsemen. There are places they can go where quite frankly an armored vehicle and a helicopter can not. We would like to have as little adverse impact on them as possible. I have seen the videos and heard the briefings and I know that their culture has already been affected. I would like to see a 'soft landing' as it were, with as little damage to their people as possible. I have also been briefed on the Lucian Alliance and their raids. Those must be put to a stop. Quite possibly we can give them a bloody nose to accomplish that."

Dressed in her everyday riding clothes, Josile had spent most of the morning training some of the Alpha sites more junior Marines and Special Forces the arts of Cavaleiros warfare; something very close to her heart and something that Lucille appreciated tenfold. It made working together so much easier. The reason for her presence here now was not without purpose, she had heard the rumors and came to offer what aid she could. Tapping at the door she spoke softly seeing visitors in the room, one she knew. "I came as swiftly as I could, is there anything I can do General." She gave Linde a polite acknowledgement in the way of a smile. "Sieglinde, a pleasure to see you again."

"So much for a meet and greet." That was the first thought crossing Lucille's mind when the call came through for Linde, although it was tempered by Josile's timely arrival. "Yes there is Josi, we are going to need some of your best trackers. Take a seat will you please." She held out her hand by way of introduction. "Georg Wettin, this is Josile Seranatel, leader of the Os Cavaleiros." Linde greeted the Os Cavaleiros leader. "Josile, very good to see you. Papa, I had the pleasure of riding alongside Josile last time I was here." She heard the summons from the Gate Room. "Unfortunately, duty calls. Papa, I will leave you in the General's competent hands." She left the room.

Georg turned to the Os Cavaleiros leader. "Very nice to meet you. I am the new German liaison to the SGC. I had just finished telling General Chambers that there are over five thousand troops enroute to help defend this world. So it is very important that things get off on the right foot and that we know what and what not to do. The troops will have been fully briefed, but I'm sure you know that a lot of the important information always gets left out. We want to have as little impact on your as possible, but some change will be inevitable." He smiled at her. "My daughter tells me that she had a very interesting adventure last time she was here."

Just when you thought it was time for a little catch up, something pulls a friend away, not that either Josi or Linde were close friends, but they had shared a time in the search for Flynn and the battle with the Borg, so that counted enough for the Cavalieros to be counted as a friend enough for their way of seeing things. "Be safe." She whispered as Linde left in haste.

She then turned her attention to Lucille and Georg, matters were at hand that needed to be dealt with as quickly as possible. "Yes General we can certainly accommodate your needs in that direction. The very moment I leave this room you can be assured the best we can provide will start searching." Leaning her fists on the table, Josi studied the faces of both. "She did indeed Georg Wettin, as I understand it riding skills are inherent in your family no? As for the people you are bringing to our world, so long as our customs and traditions are observed we have no issue with that. I would go so far as to say, that since I am aware suitable housing will be in short supply for your people, we do have many homes that are more or less empty. "My family lives in a part of our world where it is no longer necessary to ride for necessity, but for pleasure. I insisted that all three of my children learn the skill. As for accomocations, that would be very good, Josile. It will help them get used to each other quickly," Georg said. "The troops will be here in about ninety minutes. This is heavy equipment: tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, as well as helicopters and artillery. Their commander is a General Margit Guderian. She is the great-granddaughter of one of our skilled war leaders from the past. Their task, once the troops land and get settled into their quarters, is to determine how best to defend Foreston and this base from Lucian Alliance raids. And I also understand that you have your own adversaries called the Borg."

"Very well then, thank you Noah." Lucille lifted her finger off the intercom switch, thoughtful for a moment. Then without pause she spoke to both Georg and Josille. "As you can appreciate we've gone on a heightened alert, Josille that will mean your people to, we don't know what we are to expect. Georg, I think you should be prepared to return to the SGC at a moments notice, the Stargate there could be locked out if war is declared." The Borg were in fact since the last little while everyone's adversary, what she would do to be rid of them.

While she was speaking, a ping on her computer alerted Lucille to an encrypted message. Quickly she read it, making her raise her eyebrows a little. Cameron Mitchell was required back home within a day to attend a Courts Martial hearing for a young Captain who served under him in Afghanistan. That meant Colonel Sheppard had to return to Atlantis immediately; she thought he might as well take Doctor McKay with him. "Excuse me please folks." She made a hasty apology to the others before pipping her radio once again. "Miki, have Colonel Sheppard report to me immediately please."

"Most impressive." Josile couldn't imagine a time in the Cavaleiros life where they did not ride, even with the advent of the railway some fifty years ago to Altan and many of the outlying lands, they still preferred to ride, such was their friendship with their horses, they were much more than just beasts of burden, they were an intelligent member of the community. "I believe that be the best course of action Georg, since we may well have issues with as you say, our adversary the Borg at any time; being prepared is always beneficial to both of us. Madam General I should see to our garrisons and I will make arrangements for your people. Are they familiar with alpine duties?" John followed Miki along dutifully to the Commander's office.  She pointed at the closed door, smiled and left  him there.  He leaned into the door and listened.  In military parlance a closed door was not an invitation.  He lifted his hand to knock when a familiar voice caught him off guard.  "Sheppard"said McKay.  John looked at him for a long moment.  Yes, he thought, he even missed that grating whine.  "You too?"he asked.  "Me too what?"  Sheppard cocked his head and frowned.  He was about to respond when the door opened suddenly and a voice inside called both of them in.

John stepped into the office and stood aside to allow Josile to exit.  Rodney on the other hand didn't look up from his tablet as he entered.  The General's visitor stood patiently about a foot from McKay and the door waiting for him to move.  She glanced over her shoulder at John who immediately stepped up, grabbed Rodney's arm and pulled him out of her way so she could leave.  "Hey"said McKay with a pained look.
"General, reporting as ordered"said Sheppard as he stood at attention in front of her desk.  Rodney stood about a foot behind him.  He really wanted to sit down but wasn't sure what the protocol was in this situation.  He wasn't military but he had learned over time to follow Sheppard's lead.  After a few seconds he leaned over to John. "This means we're going home right?"he asked.

"Thank you Josile, I should still be here." Hopefully she thought, then the older woman raised an eyebrow at John, to a lesser degree with McKay; she wasn't about to tell them twice but it was a positive indicator that they were both to do what she requested. "That was the leader of the Cavaleiros, her title is translated as Queen, although you won't hear anyone refer to her as that." She said that randomly to make them feel a little more comfortable, at least that was her intention.

Before she began Lucille needed to address the gate technician. "One moment Colonel. Let them know I will need to see them as soon as possible please." She said leaning into her desk speaker. Settling then back into her chair, Lucille took out a paper copy of the orders she had received, she slid it across the desk. "This is for you Colonel to give to Colonel Mitchell the moment you return. He is to attend a Courts Martial tomorrow at noon in Washington, some old history I believe. So yes Doctor McKay, you are both going home ahead of the Dreadnought. The ship I expect will still arrive in Pegasus at the end of the week, pending the repairs to her coolant systems. You may leave as soon as you can, Doctor McKay your report in the ships systems you can hand to Captain McFearson when she and the ship make Atlantis. Is there anything either of you need to know before you leave?"

McKay looked from the General to John.  "Uh, this is permanent, right?"he asked at last, "You're not going to call us back once we get there".  Sheppard shot Rodney a look that registered immediately with him and he stopped talking.  "So, just to be clear, ma'am, my TDY is over?"he asked shifting from foot to foot uncomfortably.  She nodded without looking up.
After a minute or so Rodney began to look around the room especially at the door.  He didn't understand why they were still standing there but he figured this was a military thing.  His mind wandered to what else more important he could be doing.  Actually anything else would be more productive than what he was doing at that moment.  Finally out of frustration he leaned over to John and whispered, "What are we waiting for?"  John looked over at him with an equal look of frustration, "Permission to leave", he replied.  "Permission?  To leave?"his tone was taking on a familiar whine.  This time Sheppard didn't respond, another cue Rodney had learned to recognize.  He said nothing else.

With a somewhat cheeky look Lucille eyed them both. "Not unless I can think of something immediate to keep you both here." She chuckled just a little, shaking her head. "No gentleman your time here is finished, you 'are' going home. I'll walk with you to the gate room to see you off." Lucille then stood clipping in her radio coms so that she could be reached in an instant.

John managed a grim smile and looked over at McKay who was already headed for the door.  Sheppard took a long side step, grabbed Rodney's arm and pulled him back.  McKay gave him an annoyed look but immediately saw his mistake if you can call it that.  All this silly military courtesy for people he didn't even know was a waste of time in his mind.  But he followed John's lead and allowed the General to exit the room first.
Down the long halls up and around to the gate room, they followed her.  Neither had brought much with them on their respective missions so there wasn't much to take back with them.  Each was in their own way just grateful to be returning to where they felt most comfortable.  On Earth they were cogs in a wheel.  In Pegasus it was very different, a difference they both preferred.
In the gateroom, the tension was uncomfortable more for Rodney than John.  McKay had spoken to Jennifer regularly but it wasn't like being there.  John had not had much contact with Atlantis because of his duties.  He was more than ready to reconnect with the ones he had left behind.

Colonel Davis exited the washroom briefcase in hand and continued down the hallway. He noticed the hustle and bustle had quieted down considerably and wondered where everyone had run off. He asked an airman posted in the hallway where the General had gone and was promptly informed she was escorting Sheppard and McKay to the gate room and that he was to meet her down there.

Quite possibly the last official duty that Lucille would be performing in her own office here on the base, one that she could at least do in the best possible way without having to refer anyone other than those concerned. "Take a seat please Captain, Commander." She waved them towards the two chairs in front of her desk, Lucille going around the other side to sit in the leather item she brought with her from Washington what seemed to be so long ago. Her thoughts then and there was to leave it for Paul, after all she certainly wouldn't be without in her new role.

"How is your new ship by the way? I've not seen it yet, but from the reports I read it does appear to have everything we need in its capacity." She was making small talk while she waited for the computer to boot up the latest updates, there were quite a few of them so far.

((OOC I'm referring Babienko to her equivalent rank L/Commdaner- 3rd Captain is a little awkward))

Quietly, as was her usual manner, Ekaterina followed her CO and the general through. She noted she was preferred to with her equivalent rank but that made sense and so she did little quibble over such things. It would make the conversation clearer.

Sitting down, she smoothed her uniform down as she sat, her back straighten and eyes firmly gazing ahead.

"And more... "

A smile on her lips, she had to admit to the sin of pride and always believed that anyone could be more than what was required. She herself would go beyond the call of duty, should it be needed if her and expected no less of others.

Aleksei nodded in agreement with his first officer.
"Captain Babienko is correct. The Hermes is a very capable and versatile ship. The trip here was our first mission, but she performed well. My load-master and Chief Engineer are pleased with the design so I'll take that as a good sign. We haven't had a chance to test out the weapons and shields but there's nothing better than an actual battle to test them out."

Her dark eyes scanned the titles of each update, many of which she could safely leave for Paul to address at some later point. Those that took Lucille's interest had been tagged 'Priority', four of them in total, one of those concerned SG4 and their return to the SGC, with their deployment on some other rather urgent matter concerning a device. One item though stood out above everything, it may as well have been in red and completely bolded as far as its nature depicted- Fleet disposition and the upgrade to the DEFCON status.

Lucille swung the monitor around for both of them to see what she had just now highlighted. "Captain, Commander I've always been afraid of that old adage, be careful what you wish for. We've committed ourselves to a War footing as of six ours ago, as much of Earth's resources as can be afforded have been put forward and from what I am reading that may not be enough. I'm sending a request via the SGC to the Russian delegation for permission to deploy the Hermes." As she spoke Lucille started typing, looking up at the twin monitor of the other, she tapped enter. "I should receive a reply within the hour, in the meantime I suggest until we get confirmation, prepare your ship and if you require additional munitions we can supply you from our own stores."

The Captain skimmed the e-mail regarding the change in status. He was pretty sure the Russian liaison would approve the request for the Hermes to participate in the pending defense of the Alpha Site. Keying his radio, he contacted the ship to alert them of what was to come.

"Major Avdeyev, we are awaiting formal approval to join the upcoming fight. If we need additional supplies, have Lt Dyalov coordinate with the local quartermaster. Babienko and I will rejoin you within the hour."

He had already alerted the Hermes about the fight, so they should have already been preparing for what was to come.

"Don't worry General, the crew is well trained and most of them come from a military background. Captain Babienko, you come from the surface fleet and have spent more time with the Hermes than I have. What's your opinion on our upcoming engagement?"

For a moment Ekaterina contemplated her answer, running though that internal list in her head.

"Given what we know of our enemy, I would caution vigilance. However I have always made a point to install that in myself and those that work under me. If however it comes to direct contact between the enemy and the crew, there we maybe lacking to my shame. The Hermes as lacks a full complement of security aboard, so if I would ask if there are any soldiers to fill in this gap. "

Admitting there was a lacking gualled her somewhat, but Ekaterina knew it would be worse if she left such a weakness unchecked.

Lucille wasn't surprised by the request as she knew beforehand the Hermes was pressed into service rather quickly, she thought for a moment on the topic, sorting out in her mind what Paul could afford to part with. "A combined force of one hundred commander, seventy five US Marines and the remainder made up of regular Army, those being British specialists from the Gurkha Battalion. I think you'll find them more than capable of meeting your needs." She was pleased with her decision and she was certain the captain of the Hermes would be to. "Very well then, you have a mission. By the time you're ready to leave, I'll have the official reply sent you and your co-ordinates for rendezvous. Any questions?"

The Russian Captain listened as his first officer gave her opinion on the Hermes's readiness for the upcoming fight.

"Thank you General, 100 troops is more than sufficient. If they're need elsewhere during the fight, let us know and we'll beam them down as reinforcements."

Assuming they didn't get boarded, the extra troops would likely be doing little more than damage control.

"I think that will be all for now ma'am. We'll see you after this is over, until then General."

Standing up, he offered a parting salute before leaving the office.
"Rafikov to Hermes, we are returning to the ship and are expecting up to 100 troops to temporary bolster our ranks. Make sure to show them some Russian hospitality."

With a formatting nod and a pleased smile, Ekaterina accepted the news of the troops to fill their weakness. She didn't like having any kind of perceived weakness.

She stood a moment after her Captain, saluting along side him.

"Ma'am"

Following at a respectable distance, she thought about all the preparation she needed to do before any fighting occurred.

Perhaps it was lost in translation, Lucille was getting the impression the good Captain was expecting action here locally in and around the 'Wold', the planet upon which the alpha site resided upon. She had to have a brief moment of inner laughter to herself thinking of his reaction when he did arrive at his destination in or near Hebridan. The moment she received the confirmation from the SGC's Russian delegate, she'd send Rafikov his co-ordinates.

Perhaps it was five, or maybe ten minutes after the Russian pair left, Lucille hadn't even been aware of the passage of time. Nevertheless no sooner had she began writing up her reports to pass onto Paul, when a beeping alerted her to a sub space encrypted message. She loaded it onto her hard drive, decrypted it to see it was the confirmation from the Russian representative back home: confirmed. "That didn't take long at all." Since no one else was there, it made it much easier to talk to herself without feeling stupid.

She then began the short process of sending the rendezvous coordinates to the Hermes.

"Yes Ma'am." For some reason Jordan noticed that the general was looking unusually sad, a face or side of the woman she never saw. Stern yes, angry yes, but never sad. It bothered her just for a moment but she knew Chalmers well enough not to ask her if there was something wrong; that would only serve to have her ear chewed off and told to mind her own business.  The elevators in the Alpha site were very deceptive. It was in fact built on the bones of a very old Ancient facility, with some of those 'elevators' in fact being 'transporters' just the same as found on Atlantis. Archeologists have dated the complex to be of an age comparable to that City in Pegasus, perhaps even a little older going by some of the old data bases found here and there, but not by much. Miki took Aurore to #2, an ordinary everyday earthly elevator that went straight to the upper level, then straight out the door, down the passageway fifty feet and they reached the CO's office. In fact there were two, Miki's office was the 'outer', then the CO's beyond that.

Knocking on the inner door, Miki spoke softly. "Colonel san, are you well?" She was always caring, tough but caring. "Our new executive officer Major Berge is here with me."

Aurore stood outside the door, waiting before they were called in. Unzipping one of the pockets on her flight suit, she pulled out a pack of hard candy and popped a piece into her mouth. A slight habit when nervous that she had developed, though at least she had broken herself of using gum as she had picked up while in college.

This was the first time she had seen a facility of alien origin since joining the Program, since most of her time had been either back training other pilots, mostly the ones coming from France, or temporarily posted on a ship for shipboard training duties. The fact she had a PAMAS G1, the French licence copy of the Beretta 92FS, on her in a black polymer fabric shoulder rig, only drove home even further she was now officially in a whole new world. The last time she had to carry a sidearm regularly was almost 4 years ago, when EC 1/7 was deployed to Tajikistan to fly missions over Afghanistan.

Still, she hoped, this might actually be more than just a desk job...

Michelle scrubbed at her face.  It had been a rough transitioning to taking over at Alpha site.  It ran a lot differently then Zulu had and she didn't have Alex beside her to help her get used to things.  She twisted her ring on her finger, wishing she could just talk to him.  She blew out a breath, but looked up quickly as she heard Miki's voice.  The girl had been a God send.  She had been the one to help keep Michelle on the right path.

Michelle moved away from her desk, making sure everything was in order.  "I am," she answered, moving around to open the door, a smile on her face.  "Please, come in."  She took a step back to let them enter.

Apart from Michelle and herself perhaps, most of the people, men and women on the base were a little how should she say? A little rough around the edges. Expected naturally. "Colonel San, do you wish me to retrieve the base briefing papers for the Commandant, or shall I simply recite what she should know?"

The girl had been a life saver.  She didn't know where she would be if Miki hadn't been here to pull her out of the void of papers and confusion.  Hopefully having Aurore there would help as well.  Michelle considered it.  "If you would like to give her the basic run down that should be good and if Commandant Berge would still like the reports to look at we can retrieve them then."

Bowing slightly as was her custom, Miki spoke as clearly in English as she could manage, which was pretty damned good considering she spoke barely a word of the language four years ago when she joined the Stargate Program. "Thank you Colonel San, Commandant San." She clicked the remote again, bringing up a series of images. "For your benefit, both I imagine here is an aerial overview of the base. As you can see it is large and extensive, covering almost twenty five square miles. The air base as you can see is located in the northern section near the foothills, with the main entrance and road to Foreston our nearest town to the south east. The base has been active now since 2005 and this facility is in fact built over the top of an old Lantean base." Both of them would have seen that for themselves even at a cursory glance.

She went on to describe Foreston itself, the people and their customs and other important things such as their sometimes hostile neighbors the Borg. Finally she came to the immediate here and now. "Not long after the Dreadnought left one of our people was taken by the hostile northern Borg. She fortunately has been returned to us and sent back to Earth for recuperation. A day after that incident, two others also I should mention were former staff of Zulu station were captured by the Lucian Alliance, whom we have had a few attacks from over the years." She explained how Bobbie and Kim were rescued by SG4 and how another day passed and the southern city of Altan was attacked; the movement of Worthag's forces to Merrenden then at last to the present. "The Borg Chieftain returned to his home with his forces only to find his own city under attack from a race we believe reside across the western sea. They came in large ironclad steam powered ships and are now moving their forces northwards. Currently our own forces along with our allies the local Cavaleiros, El'Dari, Kelt and even the Borg themselves are holding them back just twenty kilometers south of Merrenden." She bowed again. "Please questions ask if I have left anything out."

Michelle scrubbed her eyes as she listened to Miki report everything that had happened.  What she wouldn't give for just a few minutes of down time.  She hadn't seen Kim and Bobbie in what felt like ages and she missed Alex terribly.  Only her training and desire to help the ones here kept her from falling apart completely.

She blew out a breath.  "We have a few forces that are working their way toward the main fighting now.  I do believe they are also working on getting some of the battle ships up and going if I am thinking correctly.  So much has happened so quickly."

Here was the conundrum facing them. After a month, they had gained much valuable information and data on the Forerunners, but with the onset of winter they were bogged completely down. Miki wasn't quite sure if Aurore had read the manifest on the treaty agreement with the Cavalerios, she had hoped so, or otherwise the woman was in for quite a shock. "Essentially the Forerunner's capability we could say was on about par with our own in the era's between say the first world war and perhaps the early 1930's. We've yet to see any air power from them, with everything they have put up being ground forces led by heavy infantry. They do have humans among their ranks, from the prisoners we've taken they are drafted from the many colonies they have over the seas. Their tactics are similar to that of the German army at the start of World War two, that being rapid deployment of large forces led by their armor divisions. For sea power, that is an oddity." She stopped for a moment gathering her thoughts.

"Mix of sail and steam iron clads, which are huge and heavily gunned. Some of their larger ship borne canon are up to what we would call eighteen inch. After that they do have smaller faster corvette type vessels, very similar to what was emerging during world war one. For the moment, because of the inshore ice, they have moved most of their fleet further south.., that fleet we estimated on their arrival a month ago to be around five thousand ships, which included cargo and troop carriers. Latest intel puts about half a million boots on the ground ma'am."

Tapping up a few key commands Miki turned the screen around to show the deployments. "According to our treaty with the Cavalerios, we can only use assets of a conventional nature unless the Alpha Site itself is threatened. For now our role in this war is assisting the locals with troops and the ground war, they are quite comfortable with that. Our biggest enemy now is winter, that will change when the first spring thaw occurs in about eight weeks time."

CMDT Aurore Berge, AdA

Aurore sat and listened patiently to both of them before speaking again.

"In that case, I think the reason the situation has been so chaotic is why it was in the opening days of the Second World War; they caught us off guard and we're playing to it. Our technological superiority is nullified by our own shock and slow response." Aurore said, "Case in point, France on paper could have defeated Germany, but lack of adaptability on several levels nullified any possible advantages. We are, also, unfortunately drawing forces that are used to fighting irregular forces in small groups."

"If I may suggest, what do we hold in the way of air assets? Perhaps if they are lacking in air support and anti-aircraft weapons, we should maximize our strengths. If we have even a few F-302s on hand, we can load conventional weapons and run sorties to blunt potential advances. At the very least, I believe our intention should be to create a sort of stalemate." Aurore leaned forward in her seat, "I'm only a pilot, but fighting a war with SG teams is not a viable strategy. We may have to do what the Americans tried to do in Vietnam and have the locals do the fighting and lend support and advise where we can. Arm them, train them, we can deploy what we have on critical support missions and raids, but we don't have the numbers here, nor will we without de-classifying the Program."

Michelle was impressed.  Maybe all hope wasn't lost as it seemed like Aurore had picked up on the idea pretty quickly.  She nodded a bit as she thought about it.  'We do have some air craft on hand.  We would have to check with pilot availability.  I know some of our better pilots have been running evacs."

She turned to Miki.  'Are there any that we could spare to give this a try?  I know a few need just a few minutes of down time or they could make some major mistakes in the air."  Michelle had heard that Bobbie and Kim had been doing a lot of the med evacs and knowing the girls they hadn't stopped to rest yet.

Miki sat with her head down, hands in the lap looking quite forlorn. She knew this part was coming and she had to swallow her to bring both the CO and XO up to date with the current treaty in place with the Cavaleiros. It wasn't she knew what either wanted to hear. "Therein lies our conundrum Colonel, Commandante. Our current Treaty with the Cavaleiros forbids us using superior technology to that of any enemy of the Cavaleiros unless the Alpha site or Foreston itself is under direct threat. For now we are limited to our conventional force of arms and even in that, with what we are doing now we are pressing the boundaries but only because it was requested. The terms of the Treaty however does not prevent us from doing Photographic reconnaissance, or if we really pushed the matter, implementing a training program to assist the Cavalieros to come into the flying age themselves. It has been spoken about in the past but they do wish to proceed at their own pace. To this, assistance I know would be appreciated in helping them get their first rudimentary aircraft off the ground so to speak. General Chalmers our former CO had in fact supplied them with a number of drawings of Earth aircraft that had been used post World War one, they do at least have that ability to move on in this regard."

Aurore stood up and started pacing before speaking, her accent noticibly thicker with the frustration.

"With all due respect to you two, but did the good General assume some Wikipedia scans of the Sopwouth Camel would save these people, while deploying more troops here than the Americans have in Iraq? If we did not know of the Forerunner threat at the time this document was made, then it must be reevaluated. If we did, then its the most idealistic garbage Ive ever heard, and it means either we sit back and watch these people die or force them to let us help. Either way, we lose. And if the Forerunners know of our agreement, they will leverage it at every turn."

She had a point.  Michelle looked at Miki.  "I don't know if they knew of the Forerunners.  There is still much I have to learn yet."  She was trying, but so much had happened recently that she hadn't had the time.

Miki wasn't surprised by the reaction as it was the same as General Chalmers' when she took over from General Blue, the same as the IOA's and the same as General O'Neill's. There was little they could do about it if they wanted to remain at the Alpha Site and the mining lease was far to valuable to throw away because of it. "The wording and terms of the treaty are from the Cavaleiros Commandante, we have over the years tried to negotiate new treaties, making small inroads into the rewording. But fundamentally it remains the same." She clasped her hands together as if in thought. "The Cavaleiros are fiercely proud, holding to their traditions and customs so deeply for fear of losing their identity. In this it must be understood they are a warrior race first and foremost above all things. Perhaps it would be prudent for you to meet their leader Josile, do you not think?"

Aurore stopped pacing finally.

"Chief, you're pronouncing my rank as it were Spanish. It's just Commandant, but I've learned to answer to Major as well, since that's what it equals to in every other military." She said, before finally sitting down.

"I am far from a diplomat. Maybe that's our problem, we've been letting politicians and flag officers dictate what should be discussed by those of us who have served in the field, because the situation right now does not appear to make sense. Allow me to explain."

"This treaty was drafted and signed by all parties, yet we seem to have made a move that shows we are not entirely willing to uphold or honor it, which would be representative of the massive force we have here. That alone looks bad. Next, we are faced with four options that I can tell," Aurore held out her thumb first.

"One; we attempt to put both sides at the negotiation table right now. This is foolish because the Forerunners will be in a position of superiority, and either we would have to meet every demand they make or they walk away. I see the IOA still attempting to pursue this option."

"Two; we position our forces around key friendly sites to provoke the Forerunners to force us to fight in self defense, thereby undermining but not violating the terms of the treaty. Many would see this as underhanded, and I doubt even with our numbers, we cannot hope to defend every potential target. The Forerunners will likely begin to bypass any position we take to target every location we do not. Alternatively, we just ignore the treaty and begin conducting strikes against the Forerunners until they withdraw. Either way, that would likely be seen as a poor option by both the locals and the IOA."

"Three; we attempt to negotiate the treaty again, but it's likely that if they're this blinded by their pride, they won't let us do anything more than we already are. The cynical move here would be to withdraw all of our forces to only defend our locations, which may force the matter but will breed resentment for us putting a proverbial gun to their head."

"Four; we honor the treaty and just leave these people to their fate, let their pride be the final nail in their coffin as we are forced to stand idly by and watch them die. Obviously, this will reflect quite poorly on all of us."

Aurore paused to let that knowledge sink in.

"We have far too many forces present to just sit on our hands, but if the Cavaleiros prefer to die with their traditions than live with some change and compromise, it would not matter if we brought all of NATO here. And as much as I hate to say it, they may end up letting a lot of people die before they swallow their pride and let us help. But in the end, they will resent us for it, may even blame us later for the Forerunners coming," Aurore let out a sigh of frustration, "Merde, no good deed goes unpunished, I suppose..."

Michelle rubbed a thumb and forefinger along the bridge of her nose.  A headache was forming behind her eyes as she tried to take everything in.  Why did all this have to happen now when she was still getting used to her new position and what all came with the territory?  There was certainly a lot to think about and she didn't want to see any lives lost if they could help it.

Michelle glanced at Mikki briefly before sitting up better.  "I do believe there is a fifth option," she said, a slight smile on her face.  "According to the treaty we can't do much about the Forerunners right here without overstepping our bounds, but nothing says we can't do an air strike on the Forerunners' home ground," she pointed out.  "Take the fight to their front door instead."

"Major will be easier for me and thank you. English as you may appreciate is not my first language." No it wasn't of course, yet Miki could quite as easily speak either French or German, even a little Russian when she put her mind to it. She then took in all being said with her typical analytical mind, giving the appropriate reply; that while it may not be what Aurore would want to hear, it was pure simple fact.

"According to the articles of the treaty, when and if the Cavaleiros request aid in the form of ground forces and or logistical support, which includes training teams. The size of our forces were deemed necessary to prevent this incursion reaches the twenty kilometer zone beyond the south line of Foreston." There was much more she needed to add, but Michelle's words gave her a reason to make that brief. "During the Cavaleiros history, they have managed to fend off several attacks by the Goa'uld and other alien forces, in our time we have experienced one attack by them, two by the Lucian Alliance and more recently the Northern Borg whom the Cavaleriros all by wiped out. They can Major hold their own, but perhaps now with Colonel Bixby's alternative approach we should request Josile's attendance do you not think so? I should point out, we have sent messages to the Forerunner's command down south for negotiations; each has been ignored."

"If airstrikes are not prohibited, we have a chance. However, the F-302 was not designed for this role. We may need to get creative there. But if it worked for the Americans to force the North Vietnamese to the negotiation tables, we could make it work." Aurore said, "But yes, we need to get this Josile here ASAP. They may have held out before, but with such a technological disparity between them, they may not be so lucky this time."

Michelle nodded.  'I have seen them do just that.  I actually pity the ones going up against them.  The Forerunners on the other hand are different then any we have faced before.  I think getting Josile here would be a very good idea."  She didn't want to break the treaty they had with the Cavaleiros, but perhaps they could come up with something else that could help everyone.

"Against the Forerunners in this immediate area, yes. Beyond their area of influence, no Major they are not. We have in the past assisted the El'Dari far to the east with air strikes on two occasions; we have also answered a call with two of our 401's to a remote human settlement far to the south who have no ties with the Cavalieros." At that moment, Miki pulled out her cell phone, which may have seemed odd so far away from Earth. She hit the speed dial, then sent a text message.

She nodded in agreement. "The issue here is not so much the enemies technology but their sheer numbers. I'd hate to think just how big a population their lands hold." A minute later she saw a reply on the Nokia screen. "She'll be here in around ten minutes." Another pause as she thought about the situation. "The Forerunners have also deployed forces in that southern region I mentioned, Colonel, Major."

"There seems to be an awful lot of red tape and strings attached to our being here. I wonder if the bureaucrat that came up with this was English." Aurore said with a sigh as she looked up at the ceiling for a moment.

"Okay, let's table the discussion on bombing the Forerunners like we're the Eighth Air Force in 1944 until all parties are properly represented here." She said, looking back at the other two in the room, "Okay, the southern region. What's the SITREP there? Do we have forces in play?"

Michelle raised a brow.  "Bureaucracy always seems messed up.  Although for the most part the treaty has worked well.  This is an odd situation that we haven't had to face before.  Josile and her people seem reasonable though and I'm sure we can come up with something once she is here."

She moved to study the maps that Miki had brought, once again grateful for the other woman.  Miki was her saving grace here as she was still very lost with everything.  "i do believe we have some forces close to there.  nothing major yet though.  Or have I missed that part of the report?" she asked, looking up at Miki.

"Our being here Major is twofold, one both the IOA and Stargate Command have invested heavily in securing the mining rights we have here for both naquada and trinium. The value of these mines have allowed us to push forward building plans for ships and equipment that we may never have, or at least not in the short time have achieved. In the last two years not a single dollar from our domestic finances has been used in supporting the Stargate program." She sighed, there was a demon in the tail of that of course. "Naturally that alone creates problems back home, problems that I simply choose to ignore, leaving it to the powers that be to sort out any issues arising from it. As for the treaty, essentially ma'am it was a case of agree to the Cavalieros conditions or leave. We chose the former."

"Here you see the first image, our sitrep of two days ago. The second image shows where we are now and no, we as yet have not managed to get any assets that far south." She pointed to Dunrel some 200 miles below the Borg city of H'gar Task.

Michelle silently groaned.  Great, she was messing this up big time.  She needed to study the maps again and make sure she knew where everyone was now.  It wouldn't do to misplace where one was located and have something happen.  She refused to lose anyone because of her mistakes as a newbie commander.  And seemed that they would have their hands full with Aurore.  She seemed to have some good ideas.

"I know it feels we are sitting on our hands but wait until Josile gets here.  I think we have some good ideas that she just might be willing to go with if we present them to her in the proper way," Michelle said.

Almost to the second, in fact nine minutes and some 56 seconds later, a light knock on the door post revealed the leader of the Cavaleiros nation, dressed informally in her typical leather garb, vest, pants, knee high boots with a dark green blouse beneath. "I hope I didn't keep you. Hello Michelle, Miki." The overly tall 6 foot plus warrior said in a rather surprisingly light voice. She didn't recognize the newcomer so she left it up to Miki to make the formal introductions.

"Of course not, please come in and sit Josile san. May I introduce our new base executive officer Commandant Aurore Berge; she will answer to Major. Major, this is the leader of the Cavaleiros Josile Seranatel." She stood momentarily holding her hand out for the seat at the end of Michelle's desk. "We have been discussing our common enemy and of course briefing the Major on our treaty."

Josile walked in with soft footfalls, stopping by Aurore's chair, holding out her hand in greeting. "A pleasure to meet your Aurore, your name has a different sound, I presume you are perhaps from a different part of Earth that I am not familar with?" Then she looked up, a little furrow in her brow. "There is not a problem is there? With our treaty I mean?"

"No, simply outlining our boundaries." Miki said.

Of course, Aurore stood up from her seat and came somewhat to attention with the arrival of Josile. Whatever the fighter pilot thought of the situation, she was still a guest in a foreign land and was meeting with the head of state. As such, proper protocols were going to still be observed, and one was to not remain seated when said head of state was not sitting.

"Madame." Aurore took the opportunity to shake hands, "I'm not sure if you are familiar with the nation of France." She gestured to the two patches on her flight suit's left shoulder, the national flag of France and the silhouette patch of an F-302 from the top down also in the colors of the French flag. Even though Aurore had just arrived, she had noticed quite a few NATO forces here, and likely there were some French troops in the mix.

"The problem isn't so much with the treaty, but rather that as someone who prefers action over inaction, especially when friends and allies face clear and present danger, I have some concerns of our situation and how we can render aid," Aurore explained, "As it has been explained to me, you and your people wish to face your own trials. This very commendable and I wish to preserve that desire. But I am a staunch believer in the words "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". I want us to be able to help in such a way to bring about an end to this conflict that minimizes bloodshed but keeps us on good terms. We've had a few ideas on the table, but we want to involve you and find some way that does not leave us sitting on our hands but does not violate the wishes of your people."

Michelle smiled when Josile entered the room.  At least now they could talk a bit and get Josile's input on what her people would allow them to help with as well.  As Miki had said they didn't want to over step their bounds and there wasn't a problem with the treaty it just kept their hands tied more then she liked.

Michelle inclined her head to the woman she now viewed as a friend.  "We would like to help your people more, Josile, but we do not want to step on any said toes.  We thought if we could speak with you we might be able to come up with an answer without crossing boundaries that the treaty has set in place."

Tactfully Miki sat back tob listen, she had heard this before, many times. Perhaps she should have told Aurore herself, though it was best to come from Josile's lips rather than hers. Michelle had yet to hear it, so it was best in the end.

With grace defying the warrior she was, one who had spent a lifetime in the saddle, Josile sat elegantly even dressed as she was. "I know of it well, our library has been stocked full with so many books from Earth. Sadly when General Chalmers took me back to your world, all I saw was the SGC and a brief visit to Washington, I would love to see more."

She then cleared her throat, this wasn't easy to tell. "I, we do understand your concerns. This you must know, it cuts deep to our soul. Prior to your people coming, about twenty years ago, another race took up our so called 'protection' for a time. And while we understood their intentions, their methods left us heart broken. Around a year after they arrived, Borg of the eastern plains launched an attack, we held them off for a month and we would have prevailed. These people came back, telling us that the battle should end quickly so that others would be more hesitant to attack us. We said yes, we regret it deeply. With one ship, they routed the forces at our gates, leaving only cinders, not a living soul. Then they attacked the Borg City of Feltzun, raising it, slaughtering over 50,000 right down to the last child. Now do you understand?" She pressed her stomach.  "These Forerunners while they have vast numbers, have their supply lines stretched. This winter is killing them as well; we will prevail as we have always done. But...." She held up a finger. "...if they use technology on a par with your own, then things will change."

Aurore listened patiently before responding.

"I can understand. They did not adhere to what is called 'appropriate escalation and use of force'. It is a value hammered into many of Earth's armed forces, as our battlefields started to shift from clearly marked battlefields with two opposing armies to dealing with extremist insurgencies in populated areas. The core of it is that you use no more than what is required to stop your enemy. Razing the entire strike from orbit might get some people their jollies, and shows of force rarely last. Then burning the village to the last man, woman, and child, that's unacceptable." Aurore paused.

"Precision and restraint. That's how we operate. We have a few ideas in mind, drawing parallels from a conflict on Earth about forty years ago, and I'm thinking of one about twenty years ago where precision really became a key part of operational doctrine. But the general idea is not to add to the body count, that's just stupidity and insanity. Both sides would just throw more people into the meat grinder. Whereas if we strike at the head, the leaders who sent young soldiers off to die but remain safe behind the lines, do so with precision, then I believe we can minimize casualties and bring a swift resolution to the fighting. After all, if those leaders share in the danger of their men, they will be less willing to keep the war going on if they too are going to be targets. But no civilians, we will not make innocents suffer for the sins of the few." Aurore concluded.

Michelle's eyes widened.  She hadn't heard that story, but it made sense why they had done the treaty the way they had.  She blew out a soft breath.  They were going to have to tackle this with kid gloves.  "I do agree that striking the head might just work.  I want to keep casualties to a minimum.  I don't want to see anyone lose their lives."

Josile looked at all three of them with deep curiosity, there was a plan here she could see that might work without compromising any part of their treaty at all. The more she thought about it, the clearer it became. "You plan to strike at their homeland across the seas?" She said quietly, almost reverently.

With a look of satisfaction, Miki spoke up again. "It can be done Josile, whether or not your people are involved though is up to you."

With a rare smile, Josile affirmed what Miki knew of the woman. "Can you transport us? With out mounts? We would not be one to hide from this action, allowing our friends to do all the work for us."

Tilting her head Miki answered. "The Hermes can, it is what she was designed for, do you not agree Colonel, Major?"

Aurore allowed herself a chuckle finally. "Madame, I am a fighter aircraft pilot. With the correct logistics, no target is unreachable in my mind. If there is ever a time, I'll tell you about a raid called the "Black Buck Raid". The moral of the story is what reinforces my mentality that there is no such thing as an unreachable target."

"We would need to perform sufficient recon of the area, ideally by air before we insert any teams. I'd suggest an airstrike on the identified target, but there is one rather large complication. Well, several, but one that makes it impossible is that the F-302 cannot support any type of air dropped munition, and I doubt we can get any of the new strike fighters here in time." Aurore said, "But a small team, moving quickly and quietly, could pull it off. Is it possible we can task or re-task some Special Forces to this mission?" She wasn't about to throw her name in the hat to go on the ground unless she absolutely had to go. Unlike some of the notable members of the Program who were hybrids of pilots and commandos, Aurore was not one of them. Sure, she did the same off-world combat training as everyone else had to, but her place was behind the controls of a fighter or calling the shots, not behind the gunsights of a P90.

Michelle nodded as she listened.  This might just be the answer they were looking for.  Strike at the head and kill the body.  Or so she hoped.  "I would think the Hermes would be perfect.  We also have 8 401's on standby that we can pull in to carry any of the bombs that we might need," she added.  There was still a lot for her to learn, but she was trying.  She was pretty sure she hadn't slept much since coming to the Alpha Site.

"We have been watching them for a time now Major, at least since we deemed where they had originated from." The fact was, even when the planet was first surveyed three and a half years ago when SG1 first visited; they did in fact see the civilization on the other side, but because their priorities (the IOA's, not the SGC) were focused on the naquada and trinium, contact with the Forerunners was put on the back burner so to speak. "Here is the latest satellite images from two days ago. This is their largest city, we estimate to hold around a million people; it covers some one hundred square kilometers." Miki turned the screen around fully so that both Michelle and Aurore could see the images. "As the Colonel was saying, our 401's, six of them can carry 8,000 kilograms of conventional and not so conventional ordnance; the remaining two can carry 10,000." After that she absorbed what else was said, while Michelle could quite easily pull a small team of the front lines, it wasn't something that hadn't been considered. "Are you thinking of an assassination Major?" She wasn't quite sure where the talk was heading; in her own mind she thought that an attack on their docklands would slow them down.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

"Whatever your plans are, they must include us." Josile held up her hand. "These are our enemy and our world, I think it is our right that we should see for ourselves this world of theirs."

Aurore shrugged at the question. "It's only on the table as an option. Or at least using Special Forces as a means to strike with precision, to strike in a way that a large army cannot respond easily to. It's likely that they are unaccustomed to clandestine and unconventional warfare tactics. Now, yes, -401s conducting a...ahem...shock and awe strike will have morale effects, we would need to get boots on the ground if we are to honor Josile's request."

"The overall idea is to give them the impression that the war will reach them anywhere and anytime. If they pursue peace, they will obtain safety. While we know we will be restrained, that we will not kill indiscriminately, we must paint a picture suggesting that such a fate awaits them if they do not meet with us as equals at the negotiation table. Perception is just as powerful as action." Aurore concluded.

Michelle studied the screen Miki had pulled up, her arms folded over her chest as she listened.  She did think that attacking at the Forerunners home base would be a good idea or for no other reason then to get the Forerunners to talk peace.  So far they hadn't even been able to get that far.

She nodded her head a little.  "I agree that unnecessary killing needs to be avoided.  Although an attack just might wake them up to the fact that a peace negotiation  would be very much to their advantage," she said.

"If I may." Miki began. "I know I am merely here as the Colonel's aid and steward, but I have been with the Alpha site since its inception, now my fourth Commanding officer." She smiled at Michelle, hopefully she would serve longer. Four commanders in just over three years wasn't a glowing recommendation; the Alpha site though was a difficult post. "There are two precedence's that have taken place here in that time. The first was not long after our arrival when we first met Josile's people and her allies the El'Dari and Kelts....those who live traditionally I should add, they are not of the space faring family we have met recently." Gathering her thoughts she continued. "The Kelts were hard pressed from the east at the time, another Borg like race, but like the Forerunners, more advanced. After a war that had been going on for some two years, we helped them by simply showing how easily we could strike. Three 302's took out a large warehouse in one strike. They were at the peace table within 24 hours. The second incident was similar, Some of the Cavaleiros in the north east, farmers for the most part were being harassed by the plainsmen, humans, but highly aggressive. We sent a small force of 200 marines to exercise near their territory. They retreated to their homeland, never to return."

Josile remembered those events vividly, it made her smile with content. "I believe two things should happen. Your craft launch an attack on their harbour, at the same time we use that as a diversion to as you say, put boots on the ground. Finding their leader, I believe from our prisoners they refer to her as 'she who cannot be named', so some kind of Queen. Make her feel....uncomfortable in her own home, unsafe." That is what she needed to do, make this race feel they are no longer capable of hiding across the seas.

"I do believe that we can make both of those conditions happen. An airstrike is easy enough. But this Queen...now there is the real question. We should rule out killing her, as it would only make the woman a martyr and we'd never get anywhere after that. But making her vulnerable, a gesture to strip away her pretenses of being protected by divine right or whatever..." Aurore pondered that for a moment.

"If we were to perhaps find where she lives, make it clear that we can indeed strike her at any time we choose. Something unmistakable, something that cannot be twisted with propaganda easily...I don't know, like set fire to the place and fly flags in place of theirs as it burns? Sounds decidedly like something one would see in one of those Pirates movies, but, it's an idea." Aurore shrugged. She wasn't entirely serious with that idea, it was just something to get the ideas flowing.

Michelle listened quietly.  She was grateful once again to have Miki there as she didn't know what she would do without the other woman.  Miki knew the ins and outs of the Alpha Site.  Something that Michelle still had a long way to go with yet.   She tapped her fingers on the desk, thinking as they talked.  Killing the Queen certainly wouldn't serve their purpose.  There would never be peace if they went in guns blazing and taking out ones of importance.

"We definitely need to get boots on the ground.  Let me get a hold of General Guderian.  I do believe I know of a few we could pull to get a group together to at least get boots on the ground and hopefully intimidate this new threat enough to push them into peace talks if nothing more."  It would be a start anyhow.

Michelle turned to grab her phone, hoping that the General had her phone somewhere close to hand.  She pulled up the number while Miki, Aurore, and Josile talked.

"It has been difficult to fathom their society Major. For as many prisoners we take and question, we seem to be getting a different viewpoint on things. Those of what they call the high blood, as in the ones they deem to be of pure stock, simply refuse to reveal anything about their structure and short of torturing them outright, we've been largely unsuccessful in gaining any real knowledge about them." For Josile it had been frustrating. She had always been taught to know your enemy, from the ground up. "I will say this, their human companions have been a little more forthright, not so much as getting information on the Forerunner homeland, for the most part it appears only the most trusted humans are even allowed to set foot there. But, their command structure has been opened up somewhat. It has been revealed that anyone of higher command, I suppose what you would call General, would need to be of the Royal Family, or at least married into it. And apparently they do marry interspecies." In her mind this could be a weakness exposed, to place people in that responsibility merely on family and not merit, could be exploited. Some might say she herself was thrust in that position, but with the Cavaleiros it was entirely different; Josile had to prove herself on the field to be where she was, otherwise it would have fallen to another more worthy.

Miki looked up at the others when Josile spoke, and taking Aurore's words in context, there was something in what both women had said. "It seems to me that these people place great store in the family tree. Even if we cannot get close to their Queen, taking a family member close to the throne would be seen as equally threatening, or as you say Commandant, a close physical threat in the way of some action we perform."

"Mmm, quite. See, the trouble here is that we can't actually harm them,
or else we come off like a bunch of thugs, but we have to make sure it sticks...sticks..." The French officer snapped her fingers, "What about this? Our team locates someone close to the Queen, if not the Queen herself, ideally at some function or another, and we slap a transponder on them to beam them up in front of a lot of people. We beam them up to the Hermes, giving Madame Josile a chance to talk face to face with them, and we show them real-time feed of the airstrike to back it up with force."

"By doing it in broad daylight in front of everyone, we show that we can basically take whatever and whoever we wish at will, and then it sort of is a shock of it's own to our intended target. We strike the Forerunners on their own turf, and we potentially get them to the negotiation table. If required, we could even go to the measure of...oh, what is that quaint term...good cop/bad cop." Aurore glanced at Josile, "It is an interrogation technique, you present two interrogators, one who is calm and reasonable, trying to be the subject's friend and ally, while the other is hostile and aggressive. The good cop tries to implore the subject to comply under the threat that they cannot hold back the bad cop for much longer. In this case, you could present yourself as the good cop, and I can play bad cop. Except instead of me threatening to hurt them physically, I'm threatening them on a strategic level."

Aurore chuckled and waved a hand, "I make vague threats of the airstrike only being the start of a much more extensive bombing campaign, other obtuse and blunt threats, you make a show of trying to restrain my violent urges, urging the Forerunner we bring aboard to push for peace before we're all sorry. If nothing else, it could serve to strengthen your position with them in future negotiations."

Josile had to listen doubly carefully, Aurore's accent coupled with the terminologies she used gave Josile quite the gymnastics inside her head as she quickly translated everything said into clear Cavalieros. "That they have been here for just over a month now, that they have cost the lives of both mine and your people Major, I do not think I would lose too much sleep over how much damage we may inflict upon them, either physically, or the morale of their people. They have been given ample opportunity to negotiate both a peace and a withdrawal to no avail. Striking in their homeland does not contravene our treaty, they need to receive this message loudly." Despite her earlier more placid manner, Josile could change like the proverbial weather if the need arose. "I do understand the concept, several of your movies.." She struggled with the word. "...I have seen. I think that to would work."

Michelle only half listened to Aurore and Josile as she waited for the General to pick up.  A smile touched her lips as she finally got an answer and gave Miki the thumbs up.

"I apologize if I caught you at a bad time General but I have a request.  I need the following teams to report to me for an air strike against the Forerunners.  I need Captain Coffin and his team, Captain Lawler and her team, Captain Amirmoez and his team, Lieutenant Mac Riada, and I need Hatfield, Paine, and Commander Renner as well.  Thank you."

she prayed she had gotten everyone she needed.  Now she would just have to see if Margit was able to get them all together.

"I can do that for everyone except for the Kelt lieutenant," Margit said. "You'll have to deal with General Sinclair for that. Be warned, they went through a nasty fight last night and need a day or two to rest and re-equip."

Miki raised her eyebrows as she overheard the General's reply, trying to work out exactly what the woman was getting at. According to her latest data, those other teams, the Tauri teams were in exactly the same fire fight; there didn't appear to be any excuses for them. "Perhaps Colonel, we should let them pass, I am sure we can cobble together another team from our own." Miki knew all too well, anyone one of the units out there in the field would give their eye teeth to have a go directly at this enemy of theirs. Extending that courtesy to the Kelts only seemed a natural thing to do.

Margit grumbled to herself. Another squid who doesn't have a clue as to what land combat is like. "I will give the order and contact General Sinclair." But not until about four or five hours had passed. Besides, she was senior Terran officer in the system.

Michelle blew out a silent breath.  She had a feeling this wasn't going to go as smoothly as she had hoped.  She nodded in answer to Miki.  "We shall do that as a back up," she answered.  They could use all the help they could get.  "Thank you General," she said, clicking her phone off.  She leaned back in her chair, feeling wrung out.  "I'm thinking Miki that we will want to see if there are any fresher teams available just in case.  I do not think we want to put this attack off much longer or it could mean more death."

Obviously it was going to take some doing to assemble those required, Josile knew she'd be having some grand arguments with Lanam if she couldn't find a way to include him in this as well. "Very well then, I suspect it will be some few hours before all is in readiness to leave. So if you'll all excuse me, I have some Cavalieros to find." She stood, half bowed then quickly headed for the door.

Miki nodded at the woman as she left, she knew who Josile was thinking about, god, the whole of Foreston and the Alpha site knew the relationship between Josile and the Captain of Altan, Lanam. She hoped the two of them could work it out, Miki shuddered at the thought of whoever might have to share the confines of a 401 with those two. "It's possible the SGC may be able to send another if we made the request I'm sure."

Michelle was still learning the politics at Alpha Site, but it appeared Miki knew who Josile was talking about.  She had a guess herself, but she wasn't positive.  "Then lets..."  Her words were cut short by the ringing of Miki's phone.  She raised a brow, wondering just who was getting of her.

No sooner had she spoken, but her own phone rang. Miki flipped it out, saw it was the General, then straightened up as if the woman was standing in the same room as her. "Thank you General, I'll pass the message along." She didn't ring off though, not immediately; simply placing a slender hand over the phone. "Colonel, the General said she'd get in touch with those we require. I think we can assume a few hours before we see them."

Michelle was surprised that Margit had called Miki, but nodded.  "Seems reasonable."  It would give them a chance to get a real plan into action as well.  A few hours would be fine as long as it wasn't pushed much past that.  this could be the turning point that they all needed.

"It's not likely the SGC will send anyone right away. While I was passing through,
my understanding was two of their teams were on some high value mission and for sure SG-1 was stood down until it could be restaffed." Aurore commented, before nodding to Josile as she left.

"I'm afraid for all of my talk here, I'm not much of a ground fighter. Career fighter pilot since I graduated school. I'd be more than happy to take to the skies, though I'm not fond of those lumbering -401s. Area 51 was supposedly working on something new but the details are...hazy. But if you need someone to shout at whoever we abduct, I'd be happy to do so." The French fighter pilot commented with a wide grin.

Miki looked back up from her phone, flipping it closed sharply. At this point, they fairly much have everything they needed to go on with, as in reality all that could be cobbled together on such short notice was there. She cleared her throat. "I'm aware that given the tempo of mission teams out of the SGC Major, we'd be getting very little assistance from that end." Again she cleared it once more. "I should however dispel any myths about the 401. It is far from lumbering, designed to do several specific jobs in one airframe that we could not achieve otherwise with the new units coming on line very shortly. In essence, the job we are looking at here, other than wasting the resources of a 304 or even the smaller 340, no other asset in our inventory can do what the 401 can." Her mind quickly went through the specs. "Not only can it carry up to 10,000 kilograms of bombs, it will at the same time carry up to 36 fully equipped troops...and despite her portly appearance, she can be as agile as any fighter we've come against, perhaps even more with the vectored thrusters she carries."

Michelle sat back in her chair.  It seemed it was going to be a couple hours before they could really do much else, but at least things were started.  Hopefully this little move would be worth it and help to save lives.  She barely managed to bite back a giggle at Aurore's comment.  "I shall certainly keep you in mind if we have anyone who needs questioned," she grinned, listening to them then talk about the 401.  It was a bit cumbersome, but as Miki had just pointed out it was also able to get its job done.

"I flew Mirages and Rafales before transitioning to the F-302. That thing might be agile when compared to a Transall 160 or whatnot, but physics still has to come into play somewhere, so I take the glowing statements with a grain of salt." Aurore commented as she sat back down.

"Obviously," She glanced to Michelle, "I imagine you have someone on staff who handles interrogation on a regular basis, but given how I came in, I feel I should at least try to prove to be somewhat useful. I'm not a fan of being unable to reinforce anything I say with actions."

"Only in atmosphere Major." Miki smiled respectfully. She had a deep fondness for the '01 and if it were not for one of them and it pilot and crew, she wouldn't be sitting here now. But for their immediate needs, just one would be enough with no escort required as it wasn't as if they were going up against even a moderate Earth nation who might be sporting a few old MIG 21's or something.

Michelle actually smiled as she listened.   There were so many different ships around and each had their place.  She nodded a bit.  "I believe we do, but I will still keep your offer in mind," she said to Aurore.  She had no idea what they were going to be up against.

"I imagine, then, that we're going to need more than a vague idea I came up with on the spot when our personnel arrive. I'd also like to know more about the assets we're going to have in play, if only for reference. So. Just what are we going to be doing with this op,
since the only thing we've established for sure is a series of airstrikes on their harbor, but you've called up ground teams that will need orders too." Aurore said.

Unbeknown to the others, Josille had returned, standing by the door quietly waiting for her moment to speak; Aurore presented that very entry she needed, just clearing her throat lightly before re-entering. "Most of my people have been engaged in a new push south, so I will go with you..." She came in and sat back where she was earlier. "I heard what you said Aurore, if I am not out of place I would say that perhaps as we do, use your ground assets to get in behind the snake's head while your air assets do as much damage elsewhere to distract them."

All Miki could do was nod, after all she was only a mere steward, it wasn't her place to speak up. Even if she did have one of the best tactical minds on the base, she speak when spoken to.

Michelle looked over quickly, surprised by Josile's entrance.  She didn't know if she would ever get used to how quietly the Cavaleiros could move about.  She nodded a bit as she listened to what Josile had to say along with Aurore.  She tapped her fingernails against her desk.  'That just might work.  Draw their attention elsewhere."  Michelle felt another headache trying to start.  There were so many factors to consider in this whole mess.

"Okay, so...what's there? Forgive me for being blunt, but that is a vague objective, even on a strategic level. We are going to need targets of significance. I'm thinking among them, we should still proceed with attempting to capture a high value person. If we're not going to capture one of their royalty, then perhaps a General?" Aurore suggested.

"Out of curiosity, do we have any recon footage of the area? We should take this time to study the area and draft potential target lists. If we have nothing but a vague strategic objective, we will likely get complaints of why we're even sending these teams." Aurore added, "Evidently, the words of Tennyson are a lost art to some in this profession. Their's not to reason why, their's not to make reply, their's but to do and die."

The fighter pilot paused for a moment, frowning slightly, "Merde, I hope referencing The Charge of The Light Brigade did not just jinx us..."

Tapping a few keys quickly on Michelle's computer, Miki brought up the latest images from the satellite coverage. "Areas of interest ma'am are marked in red. That oval shaped complex in the lower left could possibly be the royal palaces and outlying residences. I should point out the scale of this, that building alone is 600 meters long. There are the docks you can easily see, a ship building facility to the extreme lower left. We think that assembly of buildings right in the center could be their parliament and seat of military power and that building in the far upper left hand corner we know is a power station."

Michelle studied the map, trying to figure out just what the best plan of attack would be.  She blew out a silent breath.  "there are a few options here," she agreed, looking over at Aurore.  She scrubbed at her face.  "They have quite a well sized area.  This certainly isn't going to be easy.  hopefully though if we can get some feet on the ground we can make a better plan of what is where."

Aurore looked over the map intently for several minutes, not speaking but she did reach into one of the pockets on her flight suit and pulled out another hard candy piece, popping it into her mouth after unwrapping it, and stuffing the wrapper into the pocket. She really did want a cigarette right now, but this would have to suffice.

"So. The power station, the docks, and ship building facilities, I think airstrikes can deal with those easily. We should instead look at the royal grounds and parliamentary area." She finally said after rolling the piece to one side of her mouth. "We should keep with the original idea of kidnapping ourselves one of the royals, break up that silly idea of them being protected by divine will or whatever. As for the parliament and military leaders, well, there are some options. For the military leaders, either embarrass them somehow or just put them down, but for the ministers, we can't go killing them. But spooking them, as I mentioned earlier, that's a realistic option. Perhaps pyrotechnic charges, let them know they're not safe in their ivory tower without toppling the thing...even if we do it like KISS just came into town." That got a laugh from the fighter pilot.

"Pyrotechnic charges and some rock and roll blasting all around them, that could very will disorient them. I know the US military enjoys using loud music in psychological warfare, perhaps it's time to introduce the Forerunners to the same." Aurore said as her smile broadened.

Josile was not into diplomacy, it wasn't their way unless necessary to soothe border disputes and other trivialities that required a little tact. Yet she knew the power of intimidation and how well it worked when you presented an enemy with an overwhelming threat, she had done it herself so many times with the Borg in recent years it had kept the peace until last summer. "I'll leave the air element to your fine judgements, I as you know have no knowledge of that aspect. But I do know how to make others think twice about their decisions. Let me be a part of the teams that go for their leaders, I have an idea though most likely it will evolve as we proceed."

Now she had something worthwhile to do. Miki stood immediately, excusing herself. "I'll return later to the briefing room Colonel, Major and Josile of course. In the meantime I'll head down to the gate room and inform them." They didn't need permission of course, merely letting command know what their decisions came to.

>>Miki to Gate room>>

That was the signal to move, Josile didn't need any prompts with the eartherns, she was more than used to them and she was in fact getting quite adjusted to 'short' conversations unlike her own council. A topic such as this would take days to sort out between them. "I'm committed to the cause, lead on Colonel. I may ask, perhaps it might be prudent when we do go there, that I should dress in your attire?" She had used Tauri weapons, that wasn't an issue.

Michelle scrubbed at her eyes.  So much had been going on and she hated not being able to be out there herself.  She twisted her engagement ring around her fingers as she studied a couple computer screens.  She knew the team's were on their way back, yet she nearly jumped at Miki's voice.

"Thank you Petty Officer Sakai.   I will be right there. "

Michelle clicked out of her program and got up.  She made her way toward the Briefing Room.

*1200 hours local time*

A new day, a new beginning. That was how Miki's parents taught her from a very young age that with each dawn came a revelation that things will be seen with a different light. Such as it was here on the Wold and the Alpha site. The early Spring thaw had began, that brought with it a massive operation by Cavaleiros and Alpha site combat groups for a huge push south to clear out any remaining resistance from the Forerunners, sending them packing two hundred miles south of Worthag's holdings, where it was agreed they could remain due to archeological evidence that did point to that race having a hereditary link to that area. The Empress had been bargained for eventually, with her being released and sent to the Forerunner base located at Dunrel.

In Merrenden, Lanam had been transferred to the Alpha site hospital where he remains in a stable condition in recovery after Andy and Emily worked on him for 12 hours straight repairing the damage done to his lower abdomen, it was a massive job but it was predicted he would make a full recovery. At the Merrenden base, the de-camping operation had begun, Ben MacGregor had received word of his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, coincidentally  a day after his sister's promotion had been announced. He was to return to the SGC to take up the position of Australian Liaison officer there.

"Colonel, Major." Miki announced. "Lieutenant Colonel MacGregor is waiting to see you both before he returns to the SGC. The Empress has been returned to her people as of last night and we have been doing preparations to break down the Merrenden camp. Captain Coffin is also waiting, he um, said his team were started to get a little bored. Is there something we can do to occupy them do you think until the next calamity that might come our way?"

<Outer Office>

It was quite possibly the cleanest Ben had been in six weeks, now wearing his newly pressed Khaki serge uniform complete with the polished shoulder belt and of course his very brand new Lieutenant Colonel's pips on his shoulder boards. Other than that, Ben had grown something of a beard, as many had done during the war with hot water being a scarce commodity out on the battle field; his regimental beret held in his hand. Nearby SG7 stood ready to hear whatever duty they might be sent on, Ben had worked with them and it had been a great experience all round. "Well mates, looks like this is where I get off the train. Its been good to know you all and to have spent time with you in the field. Do you know what you blokes are up for next?" He asked extending his hand to them.

Aurore had just popped into the office following a meeting with the new Alpha Site Defense Brigade. Given how much she had raised regarding the issue, the IOA had her on point for the reorganization. As it turned out, NATO was more than happy to have her input, as the German government was furious over how their Rapid Response Forces had been gutted and then not utilized properly. The fact was that the Australians had done more than the entire NATO contingent, and the blame was on the poor leadership given command of the unit.

The result was that the entire command staff was sacked, with the majority being asked by their respective governments to turn in their resignations. The North Atlantic Council made it clear to the IOA that NATO would get the final say on what was sent, not the other way around. The agreement came down to a unit just around 3,000 personnel and units were far better suited for deployment to PG8-K59's terrain. Germany contributed 2 regiments of Mountain Infantry, one regular and one recon, plus a Mountain Artillery Battery. France sent a regiment of Mountain Infantry, plus a Mountain Artillery Regiment and a squadron of Parachute Armored Cavalry. Norway contributed a company of Mechanized Infantry, Sweden provided a company of their Rangers, while Australia changed their contribution to a Mechanized Infantry Regiment with armored support. Already the changes were underway, units were coming and going just as quickly as they could.

The base's air wing and air defense wing was also reorganized, as the helicopters and conventional aircraft were being shipped back to Earth in favor of the space capable models that the Program was known for. More F-302s and AC-401s were arriving, and Aurore herself couldn't wait to get some flight hours logged with the new F/A-305s and F-306s. American engineers were hard at work replacing the ad-hoc Bushmaster autocannon anti-air guns with Centurion C-RAMs, land based variants of the Phalanx 20mm CWIS that had been proven in use both at sea and defending American FOBs in Iraq and Afghanistan. The missile batteries were finally coming in as well, with a mix of Patriots, Stingers and RBS-70s.

So suffice to say, the French Air Force Major had been quite busy the last couple of days, but it appeared that she enjoyed a faster pace. She had popped into Michelle's office to provide a status report on the newly arriving fighter squadrons when Miki said they had visitors. Aurore was sitting in one of the chairs, clad in her flight suit and holding a can of Coke.

"Well. There certainly is a fair bit going on around here. But maybe we should contact the SGC for SG-7, since they are an SG Team and they have a use that isn't playing garrison or fighting wars. They need to get some time off-world together." Aurore commented. "Surely there is something that needs exploring or found."

Brian was getting sick of just sitting around. The last op they pulled was capturing the Forerunner princess, and that had been a real pain in his backside after he had been roped into playing "good cop" for the interrogation. Now with all of the restructuring, he was starting to wonder if the higher ups had forgotten about his team. So the base NCOIC had offered he drop by and ask them himself, and of course, his entire team was right there with him.

All of them had decided to make Multicam fatigues their primary uniform going forward, SG-7 unit patch on the left shoulder, Alpha Site and nationality patches on the right (and of course Astrid had her Eagle March pin stuck into the lapel). No one knew what to make of SG-7, they were such a mix of people and skillsets that they defied categorization past "Exploration and Recon", especially since they were all technically also Special Forces rated, even the two civilians (but Stan's bad back kept him from some of the skills he used to have).

Brian, Denis, and Nikolai exchanged handshakes with Ben, since Astrid and Stan had joined the team after that battle.

"Good luck where ever it is you're going, sir. As for us, no idea. That's why we're here, actually. We're an SG Team, we can't be sitting around waiting for another war to fight. Gotta be something for us to do out there." Brian replied.

"And a bunch of young kids moved into my work area here. Anything that gets me out of the office and into the field, either as a soldier or an archaeologist." Stan added.

"Oh, yeah, my team got rounded off with two new ones after we parted ways. Doctor Stanislaw Grecko and Miss Astrid Lofquist. Doctor Grecko used to be Polish GROM before he went into academia and Astrid's former Swedish Army Ranger turned electronics genius." Brian said.

Michelle rubbed the bridge of her nose.  She felt like she had been going nonstop.  She had just sat down to enjoy a flavored water when Miki told them about Ben.  She took a sip of water.

"Hmm I'm sure we can find something for them to do.  Let me take a look."  She blew out a breath.  "Send him in Miki," she said.  There was so much to get done.

As she was about to duck out to the reception office, Miki let Aurore into a little gossip she had heard about. "Major, its only a rumor but I shall investigate for you if you like. Apparently one of the SGC's Archeological teams had found some very interesting ruins that as the rumor goes, left some clues or hints if you will as to the location of something they are calling the Lost City. Perhaps I could follow that up. I'll send Colonel MacGregor in for you Colonel San." She said to Michelle as she left.

***************

<Outer office>

"The Colonel and Major will see you now Colonel MacGregor." She told him as she passed through. "Oh and SG7, I am heading to the gate room now, there may be something in the wind for you after all." She gave Brian and the team a rather helpful reassuring smile.

>>Miki to Gate Room>>

"I'll probably need it mate. Word is I'm being thrown into the sorry hole of diplomacy they call the Liaison office. Not exactly my forte, but as it gets me closer to the Missus and kids I'll be grateful for the break." He finished off the handshaking giving the two newcomers a friendly word. "You've landed with a good team, you'll do okay with them. Well, good luck then in whatever comes your way, I'll see you I suppose on my way out."

"Thank you Chief." he said as he ducked into the CO's office then, squaring himself in front of the desk. "My final farewell Colonel, Major. I only wish I had been given the opportunity to know both of you better. For my final report, Major Brendan Castledean is taking over my role as our SAS team leader and as I understand he is to report to Lieutenant Colonel Taylor of the 7th Cavalry."

"Please go investigate those rumors, Chief. I don't see the need for them to be on garrison duty." Aurore said, leaving her to take care of things.

"Well, here's hoping. Good luck, maybe we'll see you around if we go back home." Brian said before the Chief passed them.

"Mmm. Perhaps we should follow her, see if we are indeed needed." Denis commented.

"Couldn't hurt." Stan added.

"Guess we'll come with you, Chief. See you around, sir." Brian said and headed to the Gate Room.

Aurore listened to what Ben had to say before nodding.

"There's some reorganizing happening. 7th Cavalry is being returned home, as are most of the units present. NATO sent us General Menochet, he's had experience with UN and NATO operations in Afghanistan and Kosovo, and sacked General Guderian and her entire staff. Australia sent us another unit to compensate, you might've seen the Abrams tanks..." Aurore said. From what she was told, the German Ministry of Defense was all too eager to demand her resignation. Crippling Germany's rapid response forces had left a bitter taste in their mouths and mismanaging them only made it worse. Someone had clearly tried to ride their name to the top...well, the fall was all the more painful and humiliating now.

"We'll likely be sending back most of the SASR, as well. The IOA's brilliant idea to gut various armies of their most valuable units for this location infuriated quite a few people. A hazard when you let gloryhounds and politicians plan everything. But if you're under the SGC, you should like your new boss. American Navy Admiral who is a SEAL." Aurore added.

Michelle inclined her head.  She could see why his team had worked so well under him.  He had a presence about him and for some reason she felt like he could be trusted with anything.  "It is sad to see you leave, Colonel, but I hope that you do well in your new assignment."

"Colonel, Major. I have a reply from the SGC, Admiral McRaven is in fact asking us that we send SG7 back to Earth as they do have a mission ready for them."

"Thank you Colonel I do appreciate the sentiment, although I believe or is my understanding in this new role I'll be back and forth as the situation requires me to do so. Hopefully under better circumstances on my next visit here." He extended his hand giving her a firm but gentle shake, doing the same with Aurore. "Yes I believe that was the arrangement Major, the 7th rotates back with elements of the 3rd and 4th replacing them. As for my boys, there was only ever eight of us to begin with, that's now reduced to six not including myself of course. We did have twelve ready to embark here from the 4th Commando regiment for SGC training so in a pinch they can fill in. Well.." He picked up his bag. "...time for me to go cuddle my Missus and kids. Take care both of you and I will see you soon." He turned smartly, leaving quietly without fuss.

"Actually, 2nd/14th Light Horse is taking over, there was some dispute on the 3rd and 4th taking over for 7th. Plus someone had to come up with our armor." Aurore said, "In the meantime, take care and feel free to visit us."

Once Ben left, she turned to Michelle, "Oh, something I thought I should bring up. I put in a request to EC 3/3, my first squadron in the French Air Force. They have a tradition related to their mascot, a rambunctious European Boar named Aldo, where the pilots take up his plush toy cousins, also named Aldo. I've my own Aldo I still take with me on flights. Anyways, Aldo, as a result of all of his cousins, has logged more flight hours in more aircraft with more weapons deployed than any other pilot ever, and I thought it would be amusing if we could see how much he could rack up with the Alpha Site pilots, even if those records never are released. I requested a case of his plush cousins be mailed to me and I'll have them in my office for pilots to claim their own Aldo. A little harmless fun, I think."

"Thank you Miki.  That sounds perfect," Michelle answered across the intercom.  She then turned her attention back to Ben, shaking his hand.  "You are very right.  And having you back on better terms will be much better."  She smiled, her heart breaking as she wanted to be with her fiance.  "Take care. "

Michelle was surprised at Aurore's suggestion.  "Oh that sounds perfect," she laughed.  "I bet the others will love it too.  I suggest giving one to Commander Renner.  She is constantly in the air. "

"Given recent events, it would do to have some harmless fun." Aurore went and sat down on the couch.

"On the subject of our NATO contingent, General Menochet will likely be dropping by later this afternoon, but he wanted to personally oversee the arrival of his units. Our new aircraft were also delivered, and we'll have all of our new anti-aircraft weapons in place by the end of the week. I'll be scheduling some time to go up in those new F/A-305s, I believe they're called Wolverines. And as much as I don't want to, I'm probably going to have to finish my certifications to fly the AC-401." Aurore reported.

Michelle chuckled softly.  "Some harmless fun would definitely be good right now." She knew they had all been under stress.

She listened, nodding from time to time.  "Sounds like everything is going well, but we'll be busy too." She twisted the ring on her finger absently.   There was a lot to do and prepare for.

Miki came back the same way she had gone, essentially her next duty was to keep both the CO and XO up to date with all the latest information. "I'm sorry to keep you both." She began. Then took up her seat as before.

"Colonel MacGregor and SG-7 have now returned to Earth, so I would like to take this moment to give you the latest data that effects us at the Alpha Site. The Hermes departed one hour ago for her supply run to Atlantis, she is expected to arrive in 19 hours give or take. The Merrenden camp is all but dispersed with only a few remaining tents and other assets remaining to be returned. To replace the Hermes as our orbital cover the Britannia will be returning and is due to arrive within the day and I believe the last of the returning forces no longer required here will be leaving tomorrow via the Victory as none of the 304's have the capacity. I will add that Fleet Command complained bitterly at the waste of resources in using her as a bus." The last she said with a grin that emulated a cat having finally swallowed a canary.

"Mmm." Aurore waved a hand dismissively with an equally dismissive sound coming from her, "Fleet Command can take up their problems with the North Atlantic Council, they moved the troops here in the first place." That was, in her mind, that.

"With the number of troops we just had, and even the number we have now, how much longer do you think we can keep this little space adventure a secret? That has got to weigh heavily on the IOA, wouldn't you say?" Aurore commented with a shrug, before glancing at Michelle, "Perhaps all of Aldo's cousins I have ordered won't have their records sealed for long after all."

Michelle nodded.  "I wouldn't want the job of keeping everything quiet."  She was sure things had grown more the anyone expected.   She chuckled a bit.  "I do believe you are right there," she agreed with Aurore.

"Aldo's cousins?" Miki said curiously. "Did I miss something?" Obviously she did, then she went straight onto the subject at hand. "The rumors have been running quite wildly for almost a year now after the American President made that address to the UN. It feels like to me with all respect Colonel and Major San, that we might see the revelation of the Stargate Program to the world. I do have mixed emotions over this, for those who by nature oppose the West may see it as yet another way to put them into an even smaller position on the world stage. My Prime Minister was vehemently against revealing it."

"Aldo's cousins. I put in a request to one of my old squadrons for a couple cases of a plush version of a European Boar that is EC 3/3's mascot for pilots to take up with them if they want. We'll keep a running tally on what his cousins are up to while they are stationed here at the Alpha Site. Tradition in 3/3 is that they are all compiled together and credited to Aldo's cousin as one entity." Aurore explained before leaning back on the couch.

"It's not the possibility of war that bothers me. The countries that would want that would be foolish to even try. Two things bother me with that situation. One; we've seen the manipulation powerplays that are played, especially when it comes to the United States, China and Russia. It took a long time for Britain and France to get involved even after Thor visited our leaders. The Alpha Site feels a lot like...throwing us a bone." Aurore scoffed at that but continued, "Hell, the Australians and Canadians got in easier. But I digress. The other problem is more to do with all the rioting that will happen from the Luddites back on Earth who don't and won't understand anything we're doing here or the possibilities that exist out here. For all the horrible things that came because we've been out here, all the horrible people we've had to fight, there are so much more good things out here."

"Had you asked me several years ago if I ever even dreamed of going into space, I'd have told you no. I flew Rafales and Mirages, that was that. But I can not even begin to describe the euphoria I felt when I first flew an F-302 in space, or the first time I flew low level over the Moon. That was when I had an epiphany about how much we had to learn, to see. And that's what those morons that will inevitably take to the streets will never understand." Aurore concluded.

Michelle smiled.  "We thought the Aldos would give everyone a bit of a smile as sometimes we just seem to forget to take those few moments and relax enough to smile," she added.  She hoped they were right and it ended up being a good thing.

She sighed a bit.  "You do have a point there.  I don't think anyone will truly be able to understand what we do here.  I know it didn't really sink into me until I was actually here and either in combat or learning about the different races out there.  Being on Zulu really opened my eyes."

Miki nodded in complete agreement with the sentiments expressed by both. The only reason she was here was by default. Like many she had been hand picked for the Pegasus mission, only to find that by the time she was ready to go they had already narrowed down the numbers considerably, then those like her who had been told about the Stargate program were given other options, or sign a non disclosure agreement so binding you'd be terrified to even talk in your sleep. Taking the Alpha site option was the easy way out for her. She could have been sent to Zulu earlier herself except that by the time that program was ongoing, she was too needed here. "I was of the understanding the Australians were taken in earlier because of their close ties with the US. I had heard that the Australian Prime Minister basically threatened to reveal the Stargate publicly if they weren't brought in fully. That was prior to Atlantis, so it must go back to at least 2005. Still its only a rumor which we can't take much stock in."

There was her own experiences, but she wanted to assure them just the same. "The Japanese people I should add, would be completely surprised at first, but I think they of most countries would be the least upset by it. Leftist opinions are very much down the bottom of public debate in our country, to the point those who do lean that way are shunned by the mainstream." Now they had to move on. "Colonel, Major. We have a fairly large task ahead of us moving our assets from Merenden to here, how do you both think it best to approach?"

"The heavy equipment is already being moved, the troops will either be transported via Stargate or aboard ship. We should have our ground forces converted over by the end of the week. The anti-aircraft platforms, should be a week and a half, and our fighter conversions will be completed around then as well." Aurore replied. "I've already begun setting up the orientation seminars once conversions are completed."

So it was back to business again.  It seemed like at this job there was never anytime to catch your breath.  She had to wonder just how Alex had managed it on Zulu.  Just the thought of her fiance made her smile a bit even if it also made her a bit sad.  She missed him terribly.

"Well that will be good at least.  We don't need the whole world freaking out over this.  I don't know about anyone else here, but it had certainly taken me by surprise when I had first learned of the Stargate program.  Now though it just feels normal."  She nodded as she listened to Aurore.  It seemed like her second in command had everything well in hand.  "That sounds perfect and like you have everything well sorted out already."

Taking notes Miki dipped her head in the right places thinking she was glad to be working among such wonderful professional people. Especially seeing the Colonel's expression. She wasn't sure if she was going to deliver good or bad news but she had to say what was to be said. "Our work load may go up slightly over the next few weeks, they are moving Zulu station to our planetary orbit within the next 48 hours. Colonel I realize this may bring painful memories for you, but it was felt this would be the safest place for the station to call home."

"Well, I did spend two days at NATO GHQ to organize all of this. Merde I feel like I could sleep for days after that." Aurore commented. She was being only slightly melodramatic, considering she was put up in relatively nice quarters in Brussels during her trip. But a Major telling Generals what to do...that was stressful. Some were very unhappy to entertain that, but the support she enjoyed from her home country and from the Germans more or less snapped the rest of the North Atlantic Council into line, though not without some snide quips from the British and Italians. That had led to them refusing to deploy any major commitments, which was why the Australians had to maintain a major force contribution.

"At the expense of perhaps dredging up memories, but what is the significance of this event?" Aurore asked, leaning forward.

Michelle blinked,  not sure she had heard Miki right.  Judging by the other's face she had.  "They're bringing Zulu here?" She asked, her voice cracking.  She closed her eyes tightly, getting her composure back.  "It was a mission gone terribly wrong that cost a lot of lives, " she said softly.  "I was XO there and lost a lot of friends to a weird replicator take over."  She glanced at Miki, wishing  more then anything that she had Alex beside her to face this new challenge.

"That would then ma'am's conclude our briefing. Major, you have a 401 flight check with Commander Renner and Flight Lieutenant Hatfield in twenty minutes." She tapped her chin with her ever present pen. "Colonel, Captain General Lanam Banenne is recovering from his wounds in medical, I expect Josile is on her way to see him. It might be a good time to let her know that the Forerunners wish to sign a treaty with both the Cavaleiros and ourselves and they will begin returning prisoners for exchange tomorrow evening." Miki was terribly good at her job, she liked to drip feed information so that nothing was ever left to chance.

She did however place a hand on Michelle's shoulder. "We still mourn their loss Colonel, it was a tragedy that should never have happened."

"I should have had all of those replaced with helicopters when no one was looking. Ugh." Aurore rocked back before standing up. "I am going to have some words with the designers. I mean, come on, who puts troops AND bombs in the same compartment. Mon dieu..."

Michelle was still lost in memories.  Being reminded of Zulu always threw her for a tailspin.  Although the touch on her shoulder in comfort brought her back.   She flashed Miki a grateful smile.  "Alright then off to the infirmary it is." At least Lanam was doing better.

Michelle pushed her door open.  "Welcome to  my officem" she said, stepping inside.  "Still feels odd to say that." She turned to her fiance, finally able to give him a proper hug.  "I've missed you so muchm" she said, hugging him close.

<From Gate Room>

Taking the embrace as if it were the greatest thing in his life Alex wanted and naturally needed right now, he held Michelle closely. Her warmth, the intoxicating fragrance of her hair and skin was as if everything good in the Universe had just been given to him. "I can't even think of where to start in saying how much I've missed you." Her whispered in her ear then gently let her go so that he could see her full on. Still as beautiful as that day she walked into his office at the dockyards before Zulu was launched.

Everything else right now around the two of them melted into oblivion, Alex had this in his mind from the day he walked out of the Inquiry that could have been a Court Martial, a free man with the weight of all that happened lifted from his shoulders. The unnecessary deaths and loss of life on Zulu was found to be placed squarely on the manufacturers collective heads which also included elements of the IOA; for nothing less than penny pinching and cutting corners. Security systems were inadequate and the inquiry found several references whereby both Alex and Michelle had brought those instances to the attention of the IOA well before the launch. They were both going to be called upon at a later date to give evidence, but that wasn't their worry now.

"Now my girl before I get all too emotional since I have been planning this for quite some time now, we need to do something just a little more officially." He grinned that ever so cheeky grin of hers as he withdrew the small case from his pocket. He opened it to reveal matching wedding rings cut in fine 18 ct white gold, a leaf pattern of never ending ivy engraved around both. Alex held it out to her. "Before you say anything profound Miche', I want you to take a whole ten seconds to think about if you still want this old Welsh rogue?"

She hated to lose the warmth of his embrace as he held her at arm's length.  It had been far too long and the beautiful ring on her finger wasn't able to keep her warm like having Alex there.  She really just wanted to marry the man.  Forget about everything else and just once in her life be with the man she loved.

She knew she should ask him how things had gone on earth, especially seeing as how he was now in civilian clothes, but she couldn't bring herself to ask that question yet.  Tears suddenly slid down her cheeks as Alex pulled the rings from his pocket.  "YES!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him once again.  "Yes, you silly man.  I couldn't love anyone more then I love you.  Please, please tell me we can get married soon," she nearly begged.

"About time." Alex murmured to himself happily. While neither of them could have helped the events of the most recent past, he chided himself every single day he wasn't with her, feeling in some small way he could have forced things along in more ways than he did. Even getting here earlier than expected he at least got that right, wrapping up his meetings with Landry with every excuse he could muster. The old man wasn't fooled though, he knew exactly what Alex was up to. "You have singularly made every second of my life worthwhile with that one statement. I only hope that the love I have for you Michelle Bixby is strong enough to see us through the days, weeks ahead when we won't have each other. The best part of all is that in getting a senior civilian posting-" he halted his words with a huge smile creasing his face, "- I didn't tell you that part did I? My official role will be Material Acquisition and Engineering Advisor to the SGC. So it will be roaming as the needs fit."

Alex pulled her in close again. "As soon as I can speak to Fran McCarthy we can get things rolling. Whether it happens here or back at the SGC, Honey I'll leave that up to you. I'd be thinking here because we do have three ready to go bridesmaids don't we?"

Michelle didn't want to think about what else could possibly be thrown their way.  So many things had happened already.  She just wanted to marry Alex and be done with it, spending the rest of their lives happily ever after.  Her eyes widened at his news.  "Really?" she nearly shrieked, hugging him again.  "That is great news.  Hopefully that will mean I will get to see you more."

She nearly laughed at his next words.  "That is very true," she grinned.  "And you know that is very true.  Bobbie and Kim would hunt us down if we didn't include them," she grinned.  "Let's do it here.  And soon."

He pulled her into his arms, looking down into that divine face. "I have a full twenty four hours before I have to start my position back at the SGC Michelle. I will use that time to bend every rule in the book if necessary to have us married and legal before time is against us. You get with Bobbie and Kim, give me thirty minutes to get in touch with Fran and see what strings she can pull. With any luck we can do this tonight or first thing in the morning."

She leaned into his strong embrace before blinking in surprise.  "Seriously?" she asked, nearly giddy.  "By tonight we could truly be married?"  Oh she couldn't wait.  Unlike others she knew she had actually saved herself for the one man that she loved.  And tonight she could share that gift with him.

Michelle giggled a bit.  "Bobbie and Kim are never gonna believe this," she grinned, hugging him close.  "But I can't wait."

Once again he had to reluctantly let her go. "Thirty minutes and I'll be back. I don't think I will need to physically go back to the SGC but hey, you know Fran she can be prickly on formality and we're effectively breaking every rule in her book." He kissed her lovingly on the forehead then slowly walked back to the door. "Kim and Bobbie!" He reminded her, then was gone.

Alex was gone again before Michelle could even think straight.  Although once he was gone she got to thinking about where Kim and Bobbie might be.  They had been helping Teya and the others transport ones back and forth from the front line.  She was pretty sure they were back now though.  She went to the phone and quickly dialed up Bobbie's number, knowing the girl always had her phone glued to her side.  "Bobbie?" she asked when she heard a voice.

Michelle grinned when Bobbie answered the phone.   At least that meant they were close by.  Hopefully Alex was having as  much luck.  She laughed a bit as Bobbie mentioned the chocolates.   Those would be perfect.

"Well I thank you for not eating them.  And I do wish I could have been there.  Is Kim close by? I have a big favor to ask both of you."

"A big favor? Now that sounds ever so mysterious, you know that don't you? Just a minute I'll call her."  The sound of the phone being placed on something hard could be heard.

You could hear Bobbie clearly as she returned. "Michelle, I yelled at her so I'd say thirty seconds."

Michelle laughed as she listened to Bobbie's answer.  "Then that is why it is safe."  A laugh echoed through the phone.    "I promise it will all make sense very soon."  She soon heard Kim's voice and couldn't keep a smile off her face.    She hoped they would be as happy as she was.

"Good, now that you're both together.  How would you two feel about being bridesmaids?"  She waited for hopefully a positive answer.

Quietly Alex approached Michelle's office, he wasn't going to spoil her moment as he listened to her phone call, smiling as she spoke. Then once she was done he held up the papers Noah had printed out for him. Leaning on the door post casually he told her. "It would appear getting married is no longer merely saying I do. We have to sign our life away as well." He walked over to her desk, lovingly putting his arm around her. "Fran tells me you need to fill out this form, an application for a service marriage while away from your home base. It needs witnesses, so I'd say give your XO a call. Then we both have to fill out this notice of intent to marriage Michelle- which I have to say we're lucky we have Fran on this, normally its a thirty day notice but she told me its within her power to waiver that clause." Right now he was as happy as any man could be, finally his life was taking a decent turn, which he felt they both deserved.

Michelle glanced over as Alex approached approached.  She leaned back against him, making a slight face at all the paperwork.  Well, if that was what it took then so be it.  "He happens to be right here," Michelle grinned.  "Wanna say hi?" she asked her fiance as she took the papers to skim through them.

Kim's happy shout echoed through the phone.   Michelle chuckled as she read the papers.  She would give Aurore a shout in just a moment.  Actually, she grabbed up her radio, turning it to Miki's channel.  "Sorry to be a bother, Miki, but could you get a hold of Aurore and send her to my office?"

He gave Michelle a squeeze on the shoulder. "Well you know how it is, TV shows are so overrated aren't they? I think our show will get a better rating." Now he had get the wheels moving quickly; picking up a pen from her desk he handed it to her. "Not a chance in hell my dear." Alex wasn't going to let the love of his life slip away from him because of a mere technicality. Giving Michelle a reassuring squeeze of her shoulder he greeted Miki when she turned up. "Good to see you again Miki, I hope you've been keeping well lass. Quite simply, the Colonel asked if you could summon your XO, I don't know her name, Michelle did you say Aurore?" He was missing most of what was being said that wasn't directly said to him. Then there was the girls, but they had already rung off. "Nothing new with those two is there Michelle. I swear those girls are on something." He chuckled happily, knowing the answer was in how close they had been since Zulu, almost like family.

Having some things the same was good in her opinion.

"Nothing of any special note has changed for me Alex San, thank you. I must say that you look well, far better than the last time I saw you." Miki bowed to them both, a sort of half bow in her traditional way. "I will check for you Colonel San, I believe I did see her heading out to the airfield, perhaps she is there." She backed away to return to her outer office, when she did so Miki sat at her desk and brought up the satellite relay to locate personnel via their subcut transmitters. She smiled on finding the Frenchwoman where she expected her to be.

Miki then dialed up the radio frequency from her desk set. "Commandant Berge, this is Chief Sakai, Colonel Bixby would like you to come to her office as soon as you can please."

Alex began drumming his fingers from impatience, he wanted to get the wheels moving and for that to happen they needed that witness signature, one of course could be proven they were not colluding with; ruling out the girls and Miki. Then he stopped when the Chief called back again. "I told Fran I'd be no more than an hour to get back to her, we've got twenty minutes or she may not be able to get this organized for us in time." Little furrows of worry lined his brow as he spoke.

Aurore stepped into the office, pulling her aviator sunglasses from the top of her head and slipping them into the side pen pocket pouch on her left shoulder. There was a new face present, so she stepped over to introduce herself and shake hands.

"Commandant Aurore Berge, or Major Berge, if you prefer. Site Deputy Commander." She said with a polite smile. Her flight suit, of course, left no mystery to her nationality.

It's good to know Michelle has someone with her to run this command, I guess by now you've noticed it is a rather unique posting within Stargate Command." He released his hand as his eyes fell on that papers. "Right then, Michelle let's get this moving so I can get back to Fran as quickly as possible." Leaning down on the desk with his own pen he signed in the appropriate places on both documents, leaving his pen on the desk.

I've just only a week ago finished with a two month inquiry into the events surrounding the attack on Zulu station and you know how fast those things go. I'm surprised it was wrapped up when it did."
