Title: Rhuidean~the meeting place
Post by: Ellen_Ripley on November 14, 2016, 07:50:50 PM
A grey world of shadows. Be wary of your thoughts in this place, for if you die here, you die in your sleep.

Dark brown eyes popped open, Miriel had taken to the habit of squeezing her eyes shut when going to Tel'aran'rhiod, she had no idea why either. Perhaps it was some latent fear left over in her from childhood. Looking down she saw that strangely she was dressed as a Maiden of the Spear; a blink of thought quickly changed that to a decent woolen skirt, hardy boots and a creme colored blouse. Another thought, a long wooden bench appeared near her, she sat there for she realised her and Avalyn were first to arrive.

The dark haired woman wasn't at all surprised to see Miriel there, though for now Leane kept her distance. They had of late had reason to suspect that at least one Red had found a way to Tel'aran'rhiod and an agreement had been made when more than two were meeting that at least one would be at a distance to try if possible to see or find anyone who should not have been there. For now in the vastness of Rhuidean it appeared as if there were only the two of them.

The world of dreams. It was both exciting and terrifying. For the Green who had trained over the last decade to fight whatever was thrown her way and did not agree with walking on the right side of the Light, thoughts had to be disciplined and no "what if this appeared here?" thoughts were allowed to cross her mind. She schooled her thoughts, schooled herself in an Aes Sedai's perfect outward serenity and then took stock of what was around her.

That was when she noticed Miriel's promptly change of dress. An amused smile played on her features briefly until she took a look at herself and saw the kind of dress she dreamed herself into. At least it wasn't a banded dress. That had been embarrassing enough the first time she had come into this world. Feeling as helpless as a novice, she had dreamed herself in an Accepted's dress. Now was another kind of uneasiness: the dress was a Domani dress. Almost sheer, too clingy to be truly proper… and she liked it.

Liking it or not, however, her dress was changed to a deep green Altaran dress, one that her mother loved so much with scrolls embroidered at the hems. Her hands on her stomach, she pushed away thoughts of her mother and came to sit right by Miriel as soon as her elder had settled down on the bench. Avalyn's eyes, however, did not match the calmness that radiated from her. The Green sister was alert but not alarmed; she kept a watchful gaze on their surroundings. That was when she spotted a familiar silhouette in the distance.

"We are not alone anymore." Avalyn announced in a soft whisper, her gaze locked onto the third woman. The woman who used to be Blue and who was now Green. Something that still felt wrong to Avalyn, but it was not her place to speak. With the Last Battle coming, every single soldier would be needed. One more Green, even if she once was of the Blue, would not be one too many.

A shift in the grey airs told her they weren't the only ones there as far as she could 'feel'. There something unique about this particular area of Tel'aran'rhiod to the Blue sitter at least in her mind she felt there was. No one else had ever mentioned it to her, though she thought it might be connected to her own talent of perception. Maybe that was it? As a young Novice she so often unnerved her peers when she said that 'Mother was coming' long before the woman arrived in the Novices area of the White Tower.

There was of course the agreement. That came out of several encounters Egewene had experienced in the world of dreams, encounters that could have very quickly ended the rebellion it was noted. With the threat of the Black Ajah now being real, as much as many wished to deny their existence, safety was paramount. "Fortunately for you Leane Sedai there is no real sense of smell. But I can guarantee you are wearing that Domani perfume you have grown fond of. You can come out now." She picked up on Avalyn's own quick assessment, the younger Green was a keen learner, Miriel knew that already. Leaning to her younger companion she herself whispered. "I would have missed that, so I can be grateful to you it wasn't Moghedien. The thought of her roaming this place terrifies me."

"What..oh!" Leane was startled by Miriel and Avalyn's discovery. She thought she was doing her best to conceal herself until she looked down, she was wearing next to nothing, some flimsy see through white sheath merely draped over one shoulder loosely then spilling down around her torso. She squealed inwardly not even aware that had happened. Her thoughts of course were on Al Thor, but why in that way she never knew. In the blink of an eye she changed it back to the green gown she had worn back in Salidar. "I'm sorry Miriel Sedai, Avalyn Sedai." It felt strange addressing them both in that way but at least Miriel had the good grace to acknowledge her former standing. Formalities out of the way, they could at least return to more familiar address. She crossed the space between them, just as three more arrived. Amys, her foster daughter and Elaine Treherne. It was good to see them, even if it had only been minutes.

{Amys} NPC

"Miriel!" Amys greeted the other warmly. Over the past few days since she had been instructing the Aes Sedai, they had developed a reasonable friendship between them. As of yet she had not met Avalyn, so introductions were at hand. "You've not met my principle headache in life as yet have you? Amys...and..." She paused letting the cue stand. "...this is my Sister-daughter Corese, a wilder as you would call her. Elaine Treherne you both would know." For the moment she remained standing, guarded. There was no time to relax just yet. "You, Leane Sharif should sit and relax, you look as if a Trolloc had just trampled through your flower bed."

Corese for her part remained silent, she would speak when spoken to or face the lash yet again across her rear.

Doing as she was bid, Leane perched herself next to Avalyn speaking in very low tones just above hearing. "I swear if I lived to one thousand years I will never comprehend Aiel humor."

Elaine found herself in the dream world, standing next to where the aes sedai were gathered. She looked down, she was clad in her usual black leather, her knives and sword ready to hand. Egwene had told her that she had a very disciplined and orderly mind for a non-channeler. While not talented in that way, she was extremely sensitive and often perceived things that were unseen; Nynaeve al'Meara had told her that she had a talent that combined what she sensed with her normal five senses. She went on guard, sending out her perception to seek out anyone or anything who shouldn't be there.

"I try not to think about what terrifies me, in this place. I've learned the hard how way much much that isn't a good idea."  Avalyn replied with a wry smile. It was no reproach to the other woman, but more a way to acknowledge that the idea of facing a forsaken in this place did not really sit well with her either. They had a way to make her feel like she would be a fumbling idiot, should she had to face one of them. It wasn't true, of course. She'd face them with the same steel as she faced everything else in life, but they were so old… and most likely remembered things that had been forgotten since their imprisonment.

Meeting Amys for the first time was an experience. The comments that she had heard said about the woman, which were few and far in between, were both very good and rather harsh. Avalyn had the sense that she had managed to make some of the Aes Sedai feel like they were soft and children in her presence, something that big egos resented. Avalyn remained quiet after her comment to Miriel, simply assessing the other women present. She did acknowledge Leane's greeting with a nod of her head, and did the same with the Aiel now present. Sister-daughter? Was that like a niece? Why not call things by their proper names? Avalyn wondered but pushed that aside.

It is her training that kept Avalyn from showing any signs of  amusement at the expense of Leane. She remained outwardly serene and cool, but it was very hard to keep her lips from even twitching into a smile. "I don't seem to have this issue."  She whispered to Leane and Avalyn's warmer nature peeked through the serenity briefly as her eyes met with the other woman's.

"I am Avalyn Amasera, of the Green Ajah. Honored to meet you all."  She said, unwavering in her resolve to show no weakness to a people she suspected had no liking of it.

Many meetings, that was how it had been described to Miriel the very first time she was guided through the steps of dreaming. Some of those meetings though were unwelcomed. That very first time when the angreal had been sneaked into her via her network, then meeting with Amys was still something she'd rather forget. No sooner had they started chatting about this and that, in the main differences between Wise One's training and that of the Aes Sedai; they were set up by a male channeler. Not a healthy experience especially when he was ranting about praising the dark lord all the while trying to kill them. If not for Amys quick thinking at the time they'd be both dead; she merely 'thought' them into another place.

"Pshhaw Leane, you have no need to apolgise to me, you're still who you are no matter what those b*tches did to you and Siuan and, you always will be. Now-," She made a fuss of straightening her skirts, changed again to something lighter, more fitting of her homeland. "Since we all know who we are now, Avalyn lets have it out girl as we are on a short rope as far as time is concerned." She raised a brow, that might take some explaining. "Elaine Trehern, bring yourself over here please lass, you've as much right to know what this is all about as anyone else." No point having to explain it twice as far as Miriel was concerned. "As I was saying about time. Avalyn has found something, some information that the Black Ajah and indeed Dark Friends want to find most urgently."

Elaine went and sat with the rest, nodding politely. She was most curious to see what these amateur schemers had come up with. "So now then, what can we do? And tell me, has Elaida tried to break into my office yet?" She had left some very nasty traps in her office and her living quarters.

The former blue now green blushed visibly, as along with the obvious reversal of her physically appearing age it was quite apparent that her character and nature had suffered a little in that direction as well. The blush? Well Avalyn put it squarely onto Leane as did Miriel. She needn't to grow a spine somehow. "I will get used to it eventually I'm sure." The reply was timid, not at all as one would expect from an Aes Sedai, especially given who she was formerly. There wasn't anything she could say to Miriel, it was a fact when the woman said it, so she simply nodded quietly.

The news though that the Blue sitter brought, created a lump in Leane's throat, a big lump. She had already had one run in with someone she suspected to be of the Black Ajah and she wasn't keen to repeat it.

Watching the conversation between her elders, Corese began to feel a sense of pride because she saw that they were to an extent treating her and Elaine as well, as equals rather than just mere attendants. Her 'mother' wasn't normally like that, in fact she'd go out of her way whenever Corese was around to treat her as a child still clinging to dolls. The question though that the other warrior woman raised confused her, but then most wetlanders did.

{Amys} NPC

"Well met Avalyn Amasera, I have heard much about you recently, so it is with great interest that I would like to hear of this discovery. I must ask though, has the White Tower found ways to track down these 'Black Sisters'? Certainly our Wise Women lose no time when we even suspect a dark friend." It was well known that the Aiel refuse to admit there are Dark Friends among them, it was not well known that if and when they are found, they do not live long.

Avalyn turned to Elaine and  simply shook her head "Not that I can tell. She might have foreseen what would happen to her if she tried." There was something wry, almost mocking, to her tone, her dislike of Elaida and her ways clearly visible for a brief moment.  They had no time for small talk, however, and so Avalyn moved on to the next topic, the heart of the matter. She wouldn't be caught admitting it, but this place scared her more than she let on earlier.

"Those that are found are swiftly dealt with, and those that have yet to be caught are hunted. We lose no time when dealing with our own."  Avalyn said, and though all that she knew about the Aiel came from books and from first hand account of meetings like these, it was not hard to imagine how such a hard people dealt with their own whenever there was suspicion of foul play.

"To the heart of the matter. The head of my Ajah has received confirmation of a rumor. There is a cache of objects related to the One Power in the Mountains of Dhoom. Among the artifact of the cache is believed there might be one of the seals of the Dark One's priosn, but more important still, a scroll that explains in detail the weave that was used to bore a hole in the pattern to free it. I was tasked by my captain to hunt down those who are after the cache, find out what they know, and then find the cache myself to recuperate the cuendillar seal and destroy the scroll."  Avalyn stopped there, not admitting that her seat was burning on that chair, that she had the feeling in her gut that she should already be a long way from the tower on her way north. She was ready to leave within the hour, with nothing left to pack but her comb…

"Elaida!" Miriel spat the name as if it were poison in her mouth. "If it be that we are so plagued by the wrong doers of this world, Shaitan is dancing a merry dance I'm afraid." Her face contorted into something close to anger, not expected from an Aes Sedai, but neither were the conditions she, like Avalyn, Leane and the rest had been forced to endure.

That little tidbit passed she had to add to the Green's weight of words. "As my sister has indicated we are swift in taking them down. Amys, it wouldn't surprise me one iota if as we have seen with the Shaido that the dark ones touch has reached as far as they. Don't get me wrong, in the time I have worked with you and Sorilea I couldn't ask for better allies and companions. It does worry me though that this disease is spreading like a fungus." Frightening thoughts in an equally frightening time she had to admit.

Avalyn delivered her report well, there was nothing left for them now other than to pursue and destroy. An itch at the back of her neck told her their time was almost up. "The two of us are resigned to leave the tower the moment we awake. This I must ask of you all, who is willing to accompany us, who can be spared?"

"I am willing," Elaine said. "I have trained by subordinates well and so I will not be missed, and I itch to get back into the field again. We will need some Guardsmen."

{Amys} NPC

That was all she needed to know, this was something that simply could not be put off or delayed, never mind sitting around chatting about it over tea as both Wetlander women and Wise Ones are want to do. Stiffly Amys stood, not from any aged related cause in her bones, you didn't feel that here, nor did she for who she was; no that was merely a signal that this meeting had come to its conclusion. "Very well then, since Elaine has volunteered and that both Leane and I are required to assist Egwene, Corese you will go in our stead. Now as for meeting, Avalyn, Miriel, where do you propose a place for these two children to come to you?" She had a plan in mind, a rather swift one.

Leane's dark eyebrows shot up, here again someone was speaking on her behalf. Sadly though as much as she wished she knew where her place was. Hopefully though Egwene might be able to spare some of the Tower Guard who had joined them, or some of the Two Rivers men that came only yesterday. Though there was one thing. "It'd take a good eight days Amys on swift horses to even get to Tar Valon from where we are, can we wait that long?"

"Children?" Corese's thought was bordering on that overbearing feeling of anger again. Yet she did see right through her 'mother'. "Leane Sha...Sedai it will take but a few moments in reality." She was feeling rather pleased with herself, having watched very closely the weaves that Aviendha had shown the Wise Ones not too long ago.

Startled, Leane had to crane her neck to look up to the younger Aiel, who had remained standing the whole time. "What does she mean?"

"A Gateway. Many of us are now able to create that which Al'Thor can do so with ease. Corese here can do it in her sleep now, possibly better than Aviendha from whom we learned the weaves." She left it at that, knowing the other two Aes Sedai would find this most pleasing.

"We can leave as soon as we return to our bodies if it pleases you all." Corese looked at Elaine, so they were now entwined in fate. It should be something for them both to look forward to rather than traipse around the camp serving every whim of the Aes Sedai and Wise ones.

Avalyn listened to the sister whom she knew was really sitting only a few steps away from her and made small nods here and there to show her agreement. Her gaze turned to Elaine when she spoke and Avalyn tilted her head. “I know of one in the tower for whom I can vouch. I am hoping that he will be ready as promised, but otherwise there will be no sword escort from the Tower for Miriel and I.  I can defend myself well enough, but I know the value of a good swordsman.” She was a Green, after all; a bondless Green but still…

Although the questions had been aimed at herself and at Miriel, Avalyn waited for the different comments to be tossed about before she made her own suggestion. Tar Valon was the city that was central to everything, but it was also dangerous to bring so many of their allies so close to a woman who would take such pride in stopping two rebels in their tracks, scoring further points in favor of the Dark One. And capturing one of the Aiel who ventured on this side of the wall to boot. No, anywhere near Tar Valon would be a very bad tactical move.

“I am strong enough to Gate, but lack the practice. I should be able to get Miriel and I, as well as our escort, close to Caemlyn. We could join together at The Queen’s Blessing to regroup, share more information, and after a good night’s rest, make the journey north. It is halfway between Salidar and Tar Valon…” Avalyn suggested and then waited to hear what others had to say about this.

Elaine had been listening carefully. "Avalyn, is that Robert Laurel you are thinking of? He's one of Gareth Byrne's deputy commanders now." He was the only man in the Guard who was her match with a sword, and he was a better rider.

"Blood and bloody ashes. Stop mooning over the man and bond him girl." Miriel swore under her breath, more a thought than anything else as her eyes fell on Avalyn in the grey light. Then shaking her head she spoke to Elaine. "Nay lass, he be someone else a little closer." A slight eye roll followed with her last words, her senses told her this was being drawn out far too long, endangering them all the more. "Very well then. We shall see you all at the Queen's Blessing before sunrise. I suggest that if you can source it, there is an empty field unused to the west of the Whitebridge Gate. Avalyn, we must go. Good luck to all of us."

Sitting up straighter than a pike, Amys knitted her brows in concentration. As the strongest here she could feel and perhaps see things the other channelers may not, or dismiss as an anomaly; for even here her senses were heightened. Something or someone was not too far away from them, or someone was trying to enter the dream world, someone dangerous.

"Agreed. The task is yours to take, Avalyn Sedai, Miriel, I wish you luck and safe journeys. As I understand even moving about the Tower these days is fraught with risk." Her head swiveled slowly to Leane, Corese and Elaine. "Alas Leane you are needed by Egwene, but...." A finger lifted to her daughter and the Guardswoman. "...you two will leave the moment we return with whatever you can carry on your backs."

There was no argument, all Leane and Corese could do was simply nod as a way of obeying.

Avalyn gave Elaine an odd look, unsure how ‘one swordsman of the Tower’ could translate into ‘one of Garreth Byrne’s deputy companion’ in any shape or form. Maybe the man from Byrne’s company was tower trained? The thought was quickly dismissed to the profit of what was said that may be more important than a momentary confusion regarding the identity of the young man whom she absolutely trusted not to be an agent of the dark.

“He’s far more suited for you than for me, dear friend. He likes to… meddle, like you Blues do, about as much as he likes the sword.” She teased about as softly as Miriel’s comment had been muttered. Avalyn heard the sitter give the signal that it was time for them to depart, and she couldn’t agree more. “May the Light shine on us all.” Avalyn answered to her sister’s wish for good luck. With a polite bow, she winked out of the dream.

There was a moment, after all was said and done, after all the women had winked out of the dream where everything in this part of Tel’aran’rhiod was still. Suddenly, the quiet stillness was broken by a laughter that was not completely sane, nor completely human…

The two of them dropped back into the real world in an instant and Elaine turned to face Amys. "Sorry, Amys, but it's not as simple as that. Two women, one of them an Aiel, traveling alone to Andor will have a target painted on their backs. We need a cover story, and traveling companions we can hide among. And," she turned to Corese, "she cannot travel as an Aiel. Especially a Maiden of the Spear." She smiled maliciously. "She would probably put on a good performance as a nobleman's spoiled daughter traveling by carriage."
