Title: Stargate Command- Level 22 Base Cafe and kitchens- Isolation Room
Post by: Mim on May 20, 2013, 11:37:39 PM
The bulk of Level 22 consists of the base's mess, which has two main dining areas used during peak times and a smaller, more intimate dining area used for quick bites. In addition, a private mess and meeting area are stationed here for officers.

The main kitchen is also located on this level, near the cargo elevator and adjacent to the primary mess. Most food is pulled from the storage foodstuffs on upper levels and occasionally cycled through those on Level 26.

Finally, a handful of private isolation quarters exist on Level 22, used as meeting areas or containment facilities for small groups as needed. Each of these accommodations includes folding bunks, a working area and a lounge.

For the moment Bonnie was alone and that was how she preferred it. Since being so badly wounded on the Hammond's last mission, she had become detached from friends and at times angry. Angry that she was not able to save more than she did on the ship. Angry that it would seem in her mind they had failed their mission. Mostly angry at herself for a lot of things and as soon as she had been discharged from spending almost 4 months straight on her back in traction, she spent every moment she could in both physio and the gym. Doctors MacGregor and Svensson had given her the green light but still she was not satisfied, she kept pushing the envelope to be as strong as humanly possible and that she had achieved in spades. She sat there drinking plain tea, musing over her life and nothing else.

Charlotte ran in to the Cafe and looked around, seeing the only person in their she walked up to her. "Excuse me." she said quietly. "Are you Airman Bonnie?" she said, after running around a bit like a headless chicken that was all she could remember.

Bonnie was about to go for another tea, but decided against it. She would have to look for something stronger and wondered why the cafe didn't stock V or Red Bull, that was what she needed. Then there was a voice, seemingly hovering above her, she twisted her head around to see a young Lieutenant standing there. "Heckman, yeah that's me. What did I do Lieutenant?" It was an oblique question, when anyone wanted her in the past it was because she had done something.

Sharlotte looked a little surpised then smiled. "Umm nothing, You've, umm, you've been placed on an SG team, umm, with me and Captain Huges, and somebody else but I have forgotten who that is, but anyway were heading off now, the captain said ASAP."

"I know, I know Lieutenant. Do you think I would be sitting here in these.." She pointed with both hands at her cams. "I've been mission ready for weeks...." Bonnie stood and started making for the door. "...you gonna stand there with your mouth open eLtee or what?" Bonnie then bolted out and headed for the armory.

Airman 1st class Charlie Finn - NPC

Silvia slowly walked in, lost in her thoughts. She was well warned of McKay's temper, and she knew he somehow wasn't on the dark side of the force, but his words and his attitude hurt her.
She thought she had learnt how to face annoying bosses when she was a teenager bullied by her band leader because she was smarter than he was and had the potential to become even better than him, but that was different: that one was an id*ot, but McKay was a genius, and it made it harder to accept.

"Damnit, why is it so difficult?"

She was so lost that she accidentally bumped into airman Finn. It wasn't such a bad luck, though: of all the soldiers she could met, Charlie was the best choice. That pale, slim, a bit loony airman with a golden heart was exactly the person she could talk to.
"Uh, I'm so sorry Charlie.... I wasn't looking... bad day in the labs...."

Airman 1st class Charlie Finn - NPC

"Doctor Ray, what are you doing here?" The young airman said, a bit surprised, but not from her distraction.
In this year, the first for both of them, they sort of magically became quite close: actually there was something strange about Charlie that made him look like a young warlock.... maybe it was just the way he seemed to understand people at first sight...
Thing is, he became sort of Silvia's personal psychological counselor.

"Come on, then, Silvia" he said with a smile, and handed her a cup of coffee.  "Tell me.... what happens deep down in the labs? Is it, by any chance, Dr. Mckay?" Finn winked, and waited for Silvia to be surprised. He liked to impress people by showing off his intuition, or what he learns during his daily patrol routes.

As Finn expected, Silvia shook her head.
"How do you know that?! No, doesn't matter, you won't tell me anyway, so....
Yes, it's about him, he's so...."  She couldn't find the proper words, and shook her fists in frustration so hard that some coffee came out of the mug. "Oops!"
"So brilliant, yet so utterly b*st*rd?" He laughed, and then shook his head
"Dr. Ray, you should stop letting other people influence who you think you are, even if they are the brightest geniuses of two galaxies.... I've told you that a thousand times.
I'm not saying you should go back in the lab and empty the coffee mug on his head, but learn how to stand him. Or find some other assignement that can keep you away from him...."

Silvia managed to calm down and hugged his friend
"You're right. As always. Thank you Charlie."
She broke the hug and stated firmly. "I'll go talk to the Admiral, then."
"And I shall get back to my duties."
Charlie turned away, made a few steps, then turned back, as he forgot to say something.
"By the way, I think you'll find him in the briefing room". He smiled, and went his way.
Silvia shook her head, and headed to the briefing room, the coffee mug still in her hands.

As soon as the lift had arrived at level 22 Jen stepped off the lift following her new CO and heading down the hallway and in through the door to the mess hall looking around not seeing anyone else in there that looks like any of her new team.  She responds to her new CO "Would you care for something to drink Ma'am"

<<McKay from Level 19>>

McKay arrived in the cafeteria from the science lab, walking at a relatively fast clip, since he was hungry. Heading past the groups, he made his way to the line, where he loaded up a tray full of food. Ham, salads, mashed potatoes, blue jello, etc. Once he had all the food he wanted, he made his way to an empty table and sat down, then began to dig in. He really was hungry.

<<From Level 27>>

It was hard for Elena not to run to the cafeteria, with all those yummy smells tickling her nose and making her tummy quell a rebellion or two, but she managed to maintain a decent enough for a senior officer clip clop of heels. Inside of the mess hall, she stopped to scan the room for anybody familiar. Beside McKay rushing in with even more frustrated face, there was nobody yet. Then she nearly startled, almost forgetting that Hailey was right after her.

"Huh? Oh, yeah... But I doubt they serve strong drinks on the base, because I really need a shot or two of vodka now after what I've heard today..." She smiled at Jen. "So some soft drinks will do instead... We'll check the menu..."

{Captain Roxy Evans}

As Roxy stepped through the doors she saw Ovcharenko and Haily. She spotted Haily first. "Alright Jen" She greeted. "I heard we're on the same team" She smiled and with that she noticed her new CO. "Colonel!" She stood to attention and saluted. "Captain Evans" She introduced.

Yet another startle had to be defeated. What's with those on her team spooking her? Oh, well, being sneaky is good for black ops. But short memory isn't. Elena had forgot that while Evans was assigned to SG-4 before her flight home, they never met in person before exactly because of that. She had time only to read the file, which was stating that Roxy has a real good SF training. Oh, well, the very first field trip will speak for all of them better than any file.

"At ease, Captain... I guess it's a bit late, but welcome aboard SG-4... And I take it I don't have to introduce you to Captain Hailey here, yes? Well, saves a little of time to grab snacks."

Elena's gaze couldn't help but shoot towards the counters full of food.

To say that Maria had that killer look in her eye was an understatement; she was on the warpath and it showed immensely, her eyes were wide and if it were possible, she would have given the former Orici a run for her money. She nodded sharply to SG4, but made her way directly to Rodney; planting her fists on the table. "McKay, the rumor mill is running rife with some BS that you are being a refusenik and have some weird desire to be not posted to the Dread? Please tell me it is only BS?"

McKay had finished his ham and was on to his mashed potatoes when his pager went off. Well, unless the Admiral wanted to talk, which was unlikely, it could only be one thing. He gave a forlorn look to the rest of his loaded tray, wishing he could take it with him, but knowing he couldn't. With a sigh, he was about to gt up and put his tray away.

Well, he was about to, when Maria's fist hit the table, shaking the plates a bit, though nothing fell over. He looked up, a bit surprised, but not too frightened. While she could get angry, Wraith were still a hell of a lot scarier. And Iratus bug hybrids. And whales....

"Refusenik," he asked in confusion, before he finally got it. "No, it's not," he admitted, though he wasn't ashamed of it. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have a call from the IOA waiting." He tried to rise, though it was anyone's guess if Maria would let him.

"You, Doctor McKay have been assigned, whether you like it or not. Let me put it this way buster. As you would well know, the Dreadnought and her upcoming sister ships are the most advanced pieces of technology Earth has ever built; there are bound to be bugs that need sorting out, even after her initial six month trial.." She paused only for a moment. "The reason you were assigned is because it was thought you were the best... but then if that is not the case someone has their wires crossed." She half turned. "Be in the gate room with your gear in exactly seven minutes." With that she left and stormed out, Craig would be so proud of her. Once in the main passageway it was all she could do to stop from laughing.

"Oh, boy, McKay surely has it coming, if he won't comply to her, I won't envy his fate..." Lena waited a little with her reply to Roxy as she was doing her best to memorize stubborn Doctor's facial expression when Maria told him all that she thought of him, and in fact it was loud enough for everyone to hear and chuckle. She then threw a quick glance on her new team. "Okay, girls, grab some trays, fill them up with food and get to it, because I've a hunch that if we won't eat now, we'll have to do it a few days later..."

A knowing smile flashed on her lips for a blink of an eye and she walked up to the most sacred space of the Cafeteria, following her own advice and filling up a tray with food, and moving up to a free table with it.

The doctor was now standing, still looking exasperatedly defiant as Maria lashed out at him. “It was never a question of whether I can do it or not. Of course I can. However, I can think of several people just as capable of dealing with any problems that show up, who don't have other extremely important things to do right now. Hell, even Zalenka could handle this with no problem. All it's going to do is make me incredibly bored, and it's going to waste months of work and research I've done, including several projects I was very closed to finishing. I am too important to be wasted in this position.”

At least he got off when she left, and then he did. He was still not happy, but he could talk with the IOA in the time left. After all, they wouldn't leave without him. And what would they do if he was late, leave him behind where he could keep working on important things that couldn't be done in a ship's lab?

In a huff, again, he left for his lab.

The girls of her team were surely taking their sweet time, nearly bickering on what treat who of them gets. Elena chuckled briefly, watching the two friends. It was always good to have people in the good mood, no matter what, and they surely were now. And like the life goes, just as Lena picked up fork and aimed at at especially yummy slice of meat, that was calling for her attention for some time already, her cell in pocket of her jacket chirped. She grumbled a curse and put the fork aside, reaching in. It was the mail client, and the message was:

To all SG team leads, Starship Captains -

Anticipate full investigation by IOA representative upon his arrival.  Everything MUST be in tip-top shape.  I expect full cooperation from each of you regarding this matter.

- RADM Sean Davidson, USN, CO SGC

Lena shoved the cell back in place, and exhaled in frustration. Wonderful... Another investigation, interviews and stuff. Just like she had not enough back home. She looked up at Roxy and Jennifer, still mingling with the mess sergeants, but luckily much closer to the end of the line this time. Lena called out.

"Hurry up, girls, we've to talk!"

The life seems so slow sometimes, and then the things rush faster than ship in hyperspace. Elena wanted to close her eyes for a minute, and open them to see self on an oasis shore on some uninhabited, desert planet far on the rim of Milky Way. It was turning into a damn snow ball since she returned to SGC. But it was not proper for her to ran away from trouble and duties, neither it was in her spirit, so the Russian Colonel looked at American Captains she now had under command.

"What is the story? The story is that you're now part of SG-4, one of the flag teams in SGC. Our field of action is covert operations and black ops. We will often be send into dragon's mouth head first without any support. We will do whatever we must to carry out our orders including and not limited to assassinations of gods and blowing up worlds if needed. And if get in real bad trouble, nobody here at the base will ever recall of sending us on a mission. That's what the story. So welcome aboard the joy ride you'll never forget."

Lena paused to sip some tea, her eyes fixing in turn on eyes of both Jen and Roxy.

"Now we've another story to hear. I'm afraid we won't be able to shed heels and skirts for a while as I just got notification from Admiral that an IOA representative is arriving any moment. He or she will be investigating the base activity and granted for sure there will be a check up on all stargate teams currently available. So I ask you, girls, please, keep it all up in tip-top shape if we won't to keep our jobs. But chance are, we might slip out of it if we get thrown on a mission. I'm pretty sure you heard Walter yell about intruders. And here's your first order aboard the team - fill up as much and as fast as possible while you still have the chance. I also want to hear what your fields of expertise are. Sorry, Captain Evans, I forgot most from your file but that you're a Special Force, and I know next to nothing about you, Captain Hailey. "

She grinned and went to carry out her own order, eating the food while she could.

That was probably the best order she ever had and she was certainly gonna comply and she did by opening up a pack of crisps and began munching. "Yes Ma'am, I was Special Ops within the Royal Navy. I did a few missions here and there mainly in Afghan and Iraq" Missions she would rarely talk about or even mention. "Before that I was posted in the Medical Section of the Royal Navy" She ate a few more crisps and drank her tea.

Lena listened with interest. She knew something of the British special forces, having worked closely with them, well they were Australians, but to her that was pretty much the same. She still remembered Cate's brother Ben; that brought dreamy thoughts to her mind. Such a pity he was married. "Right, we've spent our time well. We must see what comrade Admiral has for us. I expect something will be on the table so to speak." She stood from the chair and waited for Roxy.

Carrie slowly made her way through the Mess hall, balancing a tray with coffee, a cheese and hand sandwich and a cup of fruit salad in one hand while supporting it with her lap top in her other.
‘Yeah, yeah, yeah…living dangerously. As long as the IT department guys don’t catch me I’m good…’ she thought as she carefully placed first the computer and then the tray on one of the tables in the back of the room.
She sighed and slumped down on one of the chairs, opened the lid of her lap top and as it booted up from its resting mode, Carrie started to unwrap the sandwich and took a bite, careful not to let any crumbs slip in to the key board. Now that, would be hard to find an excuse for if all of a sudden the “H”-key started to act up and she wanted some help for it.

<<From OR and Scrubs>>

There had to be something about uniformed whites and the shiny brass epaulettes on her shoulders that seemed to be a cause for alarm as Anne walked the hallways of the SGC. It wasn't as if no one knew who she was, or that fact that at some point she had either sat at their bedside, or needled them in the past. To a man and woman on the base, everyone knew she wasn't one for stiff protocol and Anne had to restrain herself from turning around and going to her suite to change back into a less formal attire. She didn't have time for that and her continual sighing, added to the constant and completely uneccessary saluting started to wear her down; she would need a very large dose of coffee by the time she reached the base cafe.

As she walked in through the door, her eyes fell on her CMO and that was something of a relief. Carrie Svensson was one of the few Anne could rely on, to forgo formality, which was more than refreshing. Grabbing a coffee with a small sweet bun, she walked to Carrie's table, pulled out the chair and sat down; letting out one final sigh as she did so. "You look about as happy as a cat in a dog pen Carrie. Anything you want to talk about?" Anne said with her usual straight to the point manner.

Carrie leaned back in her chair and gave the Commodore a nod and a small smile, “It’s not that bad Anne, I promise. I’m only trying to reschedule an ophthalmology appointment for Bonnie Heckman, which isn’t the easiest thing with all the red tape.”
She put her elbows on the table, let her chin rest on her hands and looked across the table on Anne, “Looks like she’s got a bit of an eye problem, nothing serious, but she’s a bit concerned about it. I doubt it’ll be a big issue, but we want to play it safe. On a good note though- ”
Carrie grinned before continuing, “Bonnie returned from her first official off world mission a few hours ago. All limbs attached and no bonus bugs. Looks like her field test went according to plan.”

She reached for her now lukewarm coffee as she gave the Commadore a top to toe look, “But what’s with the fancy dressing? I thought the president had left the building by now?” taking a sip as she waited for a reply.

"Somewhat a relief at least. I don't think I could cope with any more startling revelations at this hour of the night Carrie." Anne had at least a little good news of her own, although she doubted Carrie would appreciate the news she had to tell of about next.

"Bonnie may have a little more grief coming her way. It's a part of the reason for the dress show, a display of authority." She sighed, placing her hands on the table. "We've got some IOA fellow nosing around, asking questions; he had Kim for quite some time, even though he should have been addressing either you or myself. Apparently he is with Sean now and I suspect Bonnie and a few other 'irregularities' might show up. We may well have to archive Colonel Hasluck's file and put Coopers operation on hold until this blows over." Did she say archive, more likely bury would be a better term.

Anne watched her companion closely, she might not have looked exactly tired, that was to be expected given the intensity and adrenalin that the Medical staff worked under, so she let the cat out of the bag as much as she dared to. "My daughter is alive somehow. I won't know for sure until I see her; my son in law is bringing her in and if this is so, it's going to complicate matters even more so for you and me, not withstanding Sean as well." That was about as much as she could say and following Carrie's lead, she sipped her own coffee, sans sugar and the bitterness of the brew made her face pale, yet she needed it. "Oh, finally, you have a young lass in Post Op. We removed her appendix about twenty seconds before it would have ruptured. Biggest damned thing I've seen in a while." She held up her thumb to demonstrate the diameter.

Carrie looked across the table on her boss, “We knew it probably would come out sooner or later, but let’s see how good Sean can be at damage control before we do anything we’re doing anything rash… and try and prepare Bonnie for what might be coming her way…” then pulled in a deep sigh, “…and we’ll just have to deal whatever the IOA decides to do when that time comes.”

She stared at Anne for a second at the revelation, “Wow! That’s just…” then got up, leaned across the table and gave her a hug as best she could, not caring about the lap top that stood in her way and toppled over from the abuse of its owner. “I’m so glad for you. All of you.”
Carrie released the hug and sat back, grinning widely, “That’s really great news Anne! When did you learn about this? Does Robert know this yet?”
The appendix totally forgotten at the moment…

"He'd better bring his best game plan, I've dealt with these turkeys before more than once." Anne almost spat her coffee out. "Damn me that's bitter, are they buying this stuff from Walmart?" Of course she could have used sugar, but that wasn't the point, it was typical government supplied coffee; only Sean had the top of the tree on that score. "Bronwyn will cope, she's a good kid from what I know of her, although a little too loud for my tastes, but then I could say the same about my own daughter couldn't I? Perhaps if we can time this right, we can have her at the Academy ophthalmologist rather than bring them here; when and if the IOA suit comes through our little abode again." It would be better if the man didn't even know, yet that was wishful thinking on Anne's part.

Then there was Cate, the good news so far in Anne's week. "It was Robert who told me, it seems he learned of it when he was off world. The how of it is a little more complicated." That it came from Will, might have Carrie thinking Anne had lost the plot somewhere along the way. She kept that part to herself.

“You’re sneaky Anne, but I like the idea,” Carrie grinned and nodded, “It might be a good point about getting her off base. I’ll email professor Mancini as soon as I get up to the infirmary and have him schedule an appointment for her at his clinic. That way we’ll have it covered no matter what Sean decides.”

She finished off her coffee with a smile, “I’m sure we’ll learn all about the ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’... eventually.” then put the empty mug on the table in front of her, took a deep breath, folded her arms on the table and looked intently on Anne, “Just promise me one thing, ok? Send Cate my way once you’ve seen her, because even if you’re technically my boss, and outranks me by I don’t know how many pay grades - I don't want you to be the one doing her physical, alright?”

"Years of intensive training dear, you'll be a mirror image of me once you reach my grand old years." Anne told her companion, with a wry grin. "Any other clutter we need to take care of, we should do so. Not that I can think of any right now, but I'm sure Kimberly knows more than the both of us put together. Speaking of that southern belle, have you seen her in the last little while?" If anyone in the Medical division had their finger on all pulses, it was Kim, not that Ruby wasn't well versed in what was needed to be done, she could be a little flighty at times; a good lass just the same.

"I believe that would be considered a 'conflict of interests' they wouldn't allow me anyway, so you'll have her. She would be needing a psychological examination as well, so one of the egg heads from the Academy may have to be called in." Anne checked herself for a moment. "You don't know Catherine as yet but if this is true, you will. She'll tell both of us, 'don't ask'."

The cafe door opened slowly with a slight squeal, Kim walked in, as usual, glasses on the end of her nose, papers in hand and not even looking where she was going. The next thing there was a loud clatter and a thump as she bumped into a table of trays, tripped on a chair leg and went down in a heap, papers flying everywhere and her golden mane all askew over her face.

Carrie nodded about the psych eval since it was pretty much standard procedure after something like this, “I’ll see what can do about getting one of the more decent ones to see her.” She frowned and rubbed her cheek a little as she thought out loud, “I wonder if Murdock is around. He’s good… Fast… No fussing around…”

A loud noise from the other side of the room interrupted her train of thoughts and Carrie was up from her chair at an instant, “Looks like Kim found us,” and hurried over to crouch by her head nurse, “Hey Kim. You ok? What happened?”

"He is one of the best, see what you can do Carrie and let's hope his schedule is not too full." Trying to think ahead at times could give you a headache as big as Texas and that was the very thing Anne didn't need right now. With the IOA nosing around, teams on stand by, action apparently going down at the Alpha site and Cate's return; it was more than enough to deal with at the present. She was about to make some assessments of the Medical divisions current staff status, when a loud crash spun her around; Carrie was already at the scene of the distubance and Anne wasn't too far behind her.

"By the looks of the evidence, I would say our girl wasn't looking where she was going." She was about to help Kimberly up, then she saw the papers, the IOA file was sitting on the edge of the table where it had landed in flight from the CNO's hand. Anne scanned it quickly. "Bloody hell, who in God's name do they think they are?" She picked up Kim's glasses and put them back where they belonged. "Let's get you up lass." She said, placing one hand under Kim's.

With a perfectly embarrassed red face, Kim accepted the older woman's aid, grabbing the offending table on one corner as she steadied herself and stood. "Stupidity is what happened Carrie." She replied, dusting her shirt and pants down a little. "And I don't think I have anything more than a bruised sense of pride, or ego or both. Damn straight, I really should look where I'm going a little more often." She placed a hand on Anne's arm.

"Thank you ma'am. I guess I am the bearer of bad news then. Those Washington types think they know better than we do. Mind if I sit, it'll be way easier for me to brief you both." Kim looked at both Carrie and Anne, effectively both of them we her boss in one way or another.

Carrie gave the nurse a top to toe look, nodded and then motioned towards the table Anne and she had used earlier on.
“Sure, let’s sit down over there.”
Helping straighten up the furniture, she then led the way further in to the mess hall and sat down, looking expectantly at Kim, “Ok. Shoot.”

"This is going to be interesting." Anne murmured as she followed the other two, plonking herself back in a chair with a huff. She'd picked up a sheave of Kim's papers and began laying them out on the table. "I could suggest a few subjects to shoot Carrie, but yes, Kim start from the top please." There was one thing Anne had learned in her long career, the rumor mill was the best source of information and the best place to find out just about everything was the base chaplain. Francis would have her ear on everyone, she would have to be called up soon.

She started by lacing her fingers together, a position Kim would always be seen doing on those rare times of seriousness she found herself in. "Well, I guess as you both already know, we have an IOA guy nosing around. At first he came at me all threatening and such, making demands to see personnel files and so on." She took a moments pause. "So, I read him the riot act and told him the Federal Laws pertaining to our work and the medical division. So he took another tack, accused me of dereliction of duty because the IOA had found out drugs were missing."

Carrie slumped back in the chair with a sigh and looked at Anne, “See what I mean about being understaffed? Or maybe you don’t… but you will in a minute or so...”
She straightened up and looked back at Kim, “I’m sorry Kim but I’m to blame in this as well. You know the briefing I wanted to have with you this morning about the situation around here? Well, this was one of the things that I wanted to talk to you about but never got the chance to. We cleared this whole mess up the day before yesterday. The one responsible for this was a Corporal Gordon Fleck. I’m sure you remember him from earlier this summer when SG-12 came back pretty banged up from M2E-137. Apparently he worked up an addiction to morphine during his convalescence… I’m not yet sure how he did it, but somehow he got over an access code to our drug cabinet. The security detail caught him red handed and we sent him off to rehab last night.”
Carrie turned back to Anne, “You have a full report in your email. I finished it about an hour ago and sent a copy to both of you as well as Davidson.”

Anne did a perfect impression of that fellow from that Star Trek show, her hand over her face. What was it called? A face palm?

"It's neither of your fault. If our requests for a full time pharmacist had been met a year ago, none of this would have occurred. Suffice to say, Carrie you did well and perhaps I should have been a little more vigilant as I was treating that fellow now and then. So, as the saying goes.." She pointed at her chest. "The buck stops here. Is there anything else this fellow is poking his nose in where it doesn't belong?" She asked pointedly, it was perhaps the time to call in a favour. Hopefully Francis was still on base. "As soon as I read your file Carrie, I'm going to ask Fran McCarthy to do a little snooping for us. In case you weren't aware of it Carrie, our dear Chaplain was once a CIA analyst." She was also the best snoop around and not one you should cross swords with.

An apology from Carrie, no way. Kim wouldn't hear of it. "Carrie, Anne, look I'm supposed to be on top of all this, neither of you can take any credit for things 'not' happening around here. Yes its true we're short staffed, but I am supposed to have a handle on everything around here, that's my job." She wasn't annoyed, more sad, simply because her bosses were trying to shield her. "But I am grateful to you both...Oh...marvelous Carrie, I hope he goes to Levenworth after that." There was no excuse for what that man did, he could have as easily come to them with his problem. She sighed.

"It doesn't end there. Mister Devore has indicated that the IOA may want to make some staff movements of their choosing, of course I told him hell would freeze over first before they even moved a toilet in the medical division." The idea of the base chaplain doing some poking around was a good one though, they might be able to dig up some dirt on the IOA members themselves.

"Jesus H Christ!" Anne spat. She was after all Australian with a sharp tongue, one she let fly whenever the moment dictated, which right now had her in full flight. "Who the hell do these people think they are? Bloody bureaucrats with nothing better to do than cause grief for hard working professionals. Carrie, Kim, I think we had best take this somewhere a little more private. I'm going to see Fran personally, I'll meet with you shortly, say in Carrie's office." With that Anne left promptly, with a thunder cloud hovering over her head.

Carrie raised her hand towards Anne as she left, “Anything that might help us would be appreciated Anne. See ya!” before looking back at Kim with a small grin in spite of the seriousness in what she’d just said.
“Well, if that IOA-guy wants to redecorate my bathroom, then fine with me… As long as it’s not green… or yellow.”
She sobered up and closed the lid on the lap top, “Seriously though, I really hope Fran can help us. Why don’t we get a head of them back to the infirmary? I’d like to check on the app patient Anne left in Post op.” Carrie got up from her chair and started gathering her trash on the tray and tucked the computer under her arm, getting ready to leave, “If I’m lucky I might be able to do that before Anne returns.”

By rights, Kim should be having her mid evening break; such as the staffing was at the moment, she considered herself lucky to even be in the cafe. Mister Nicholas Devore had put an end to what should have been an hours relaxing with her crew, instead, with Carrie and Anne, they were chasing ghosts and that didn't sit too well with this southern girl. Her normally unflappable demeanor had just gone right out the window. "Carrie you ever know a guy who could decorate anything? Cars not withstanding. I wouldn't let anyone from the IOA, CIA or the FBI anywhere near our stuff." Why she chose to mention those other agencies, even Kim didn't know. She put her hand over her mouth the moment the words came out. "Well except under 'our' guidance, but you know what I mean."

Kim stood, pushed her chair back, arched her back with an audible click, then tapped her lips. "I don't know the padre well, not much one for Church going of late, but from what I know she's an ace when it comes to digging. So we'll see. Frankly Carrie, seeing that young girl might cheer us both up." If there was one thing Kim could say, and that was she worked for the best boss she could remember in a very long time. She was growing to like Carrie a lot and she hoped that she never let her down.

Carrie dug up her radio from her pocket, “Svensson here. Roger that. Report as soon as you can. I’ll be in the Infirmary. Svensson out.” Only one flight of stairs would separate them if the need should arise for an MD to actually be there, but with the skills the medics around here, she was confident they could stabilize almost anything for transport.
She turned towards Kim as they entered the stairs, with the corners of her mouth twitching from a hint of a smile “So is there anything else on you mind before we once again dig in to what goes for just another day at work around here?”

The smile was infectious enough to start a smile plague, that was perhaps one of Kim's finer qualities. Several thousands of dollars on dental work made sure of that. "Now you know why Caroline went back to the academy hospital. Never a dull moment here, over there is just lots of sick people." She began walking with Carrie, then paused at the door. "Other than a three week vacation, no. Life goes on, we do what we can and then start all over at the next shift. Wonderful isn't it?"  Two steps further and Kim stopped again. "Oh criminy, yes there was. We have two patients from the Dreadnought, I suspect Mike and Ruby are with them. We'd best hurry I think."

Sarah quietly slipped into the Mess Hall.  Her stomach was rumbling a bit, she just wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.  The young woman grabbed a bowl of oatmeal and toast, not so sure her stomach could handle anything else at the moment.  Normally she would have coffee, but decided tea might be better.

Sarah found a table to sit at and slowly ate her breakfast.  Her stomach suddenly started to roil and her face turned a sick greenish color.  She darted for the closest garbage can.

With her hair still damp from the shower and now dressed in a pair of BDU’s and a black long sleeved T-shirt, Carrie came in to the mess hall and headed for the breakfast line.
She loaded her tray with a bowl of yogurt with cereals, a cheese and ham sandwich, a banana, some apple juice and a large cup of coffee with milk and walked off towards a far off and quiet corner of the room.
Half way through her yogurt though, she looked up and frowned at the sound of some commotion, “What the…?”
Carrie got up, looked around and spotted Sarah across the room, apparently having a stomach that didn’t agree with something served.

She hurried over, crouched and placed a gentle hand on the poor woman’s shoulder, silently praying that it wasn’t another round of stomach flue running its course on the base, but one second later her thoughts changed tracks, why did it affect Sarah when she had Chimri? “Hi there. Asking how you feel sounds kind of stupid, so why don’t we get up to the infirmary and see if there’s something I can do to help you, ok?”

Sarah hadn't heard Carrie's approach until the other woman touched her shoulder.  She slowly looked up, her face pale and drawn.  She wiped a shaky hand over her face, feeling awful.  She was still queasy and didn't want to think about why.  "Yeah," she said softly.  Carrie had been one of the ones who had been there for her the day before with finding out about Chimri.  "Might be a good idea."  Her voice was weak and she was still shaky as she got to her feet.

Roche strode into the cafeteria with a purpose in mind, and he moved to fulfill that purpose, ignoring everything along the way and brushing off conversation. He was not so much an immediate morning person. He went up to the cooks and got his food, French Roast coffee, yogurt, croissants. Nothing amazing, and he didn't have much hopes for American cuisine, but it would suffice.

Tray in hand, he went and sat down then, taking long draughts from the french roast while biting at the croissant. His eyes watched the scene playing out, but given that it seemed to be in hand he felt no desire to intervene, and thus turned to eating his breakfast and getting energy for the day ahead.

Carrie gave her a helping hand to get up, and with one arm under Sarah’s elbow as support, she grabbed a few napkins on a nearby table as well as one of the smaller trash bins as they passed it.
Once out of ear shot of the mess hall people and on their way towards the elevator, Carrie asked, “So, how long have you been feeling like this? I thought a symbiot was supposed to keep its host healthy as a horse?”

The commotion had ended, those who had caused it departed, and Roche gave it no more thought as he continued with breakfast.  As he expected, the food here wasn't as good as his native France, but it wasn't the worst he had ever tasted.  It filled him and the French Roast woke him up, and that was what mattered, though it not tasting like cardboard was good too.

He was nearly done when the call came over the PA for him.  Wondering what it could be, he dropped off his tray and departed, still chewing on his croissant as he left at a brisk walk.

Leading her two charges from one level to the next, in rather spiritual silence as it were, Fran brought finally to the cafe. She swung the doors open to find the place devoid of anyone except a lone figure sitting in a corner reading. That was Anne, you could pick her out in a crowded room anywhere despite her small size as everyone else would be texting on their cellphones, Anne would be the only one with a book in her hands. Robert and Lukas both smiled as they recognized Anne, an oftentimes mother hen to some of the orphaned kids who attended Mass.  She always did like her books thought Lukas fondly.

Robert walked up to her silently and smiled.  "Mrs. MacGregor you haven't changed a bit," he said jovially.

She might be old, or older than most in the SGC, but certainly Anne wasn't deaf either. In spite of Robert's attempt at a stealthy sneak arrival by her side she continued to read her book, a rather hefty tome on the breeding of Quarter Horses, one of Anne's passions among many. She pretended for a long moment not to notice his and indeed Lukas's presence, preferring to draw the suspense out a little. When she did finally accede to them being there she did so with her usual taciturn manner.

"Why I believe its the most Reverend Robert Sheen come in from the cold? Oh and Lukas Sadarov to. Now what in God's name has brought you two back into the fold? Not enough demons in DC to exorcise?" Of course you had to remember who she was and where she came from, that Australian trait of irreverent humor always at the forefront. She placed the book down calmly, stood gracefully placing her arms around her old friend. "Bob its good to see you, it has been a while. Please sit down both of you. Oh and thank you for the compliment, although I'd have to disagree, I've a dozen more at least grey hairs since we last saw each other. And Lukas." She touched him lightly on the arm. "You've filled out a little haven't you?"

It was at that point she both heard and saw the DEFCON alarm. "Bugger, I was about to head off home." She said absently.

"I think it would take quite a miracle to get the demons out of DC," said Robert with a chuckle.  "And I see you can still be counted on to have your nose buried in a book," he said grinning.

"Actually I can appreciate a good book too though I tend to prefer good clean classic fantasy," said Lukas with a smile.  "And yes I've apparently 'hulked out' as some people have put it.  And I owe it all to clean living," he said with a cheeky smirk.

Then they both heard the DEFCON alert as well.  "Hope this isn't Dr. Felger's doing," said Lukas, who'd heard of the legendary mishaps of the nervous and excitable Dr. Jay Felger.

"There's nothing like a happy reunion I always say." Fran was the one most turned to when times called for getting folks together who for one reason or another hadn't seen each other for a long time. She had been spending the better part of the last six months reuniting SG team members that had gone their separate way due to new assignments and postings, it was the fun part of her job, seeing those happy faces.

Taking the few steps from the door to the table joining the others when wouldn't you know it that old familiar emergency pops up just like an urgent call to the ladies room. "Sorry folks I'll have to leave you all, as they say duty calls." She turned on her heal then and there making back the way she came.

Curling her hands together on the table Anne took on a pensive look, as if she were searching for something, that elusive connection to the past. Finally when she could break her silence, it was quite a softened tone she used and with good reason. "You don't know yet do you? Cate is alive." That was the one single saving grace she had now in her life since Will was taken from her, that and her new grandchild. "Around the same time Ben and my daughter in law just gave birth to another daughter. He is currently at the Antarctic Station, though hopefully he'll be rotated home soon. So, in the year or there abouts since we last saw each other, more so for you Lukas. Has anything dramatic happened for you? I mean other than coming back here?" Of course she was happy to see them both, Anne's demeanor though had taken a slight downhill ride over the last little while.

"She's alive?  But how?" asked a clearly surprised Robert.  "And congratulations on the new grandchild."

"Nothing too dramatic for me," said Lukas.  "I became a licensed massage therapist.  Also caught someone trying to steal money out of the orphange's till.  He made tracks when he caught sight of me though."

Now there was the rub, Anne at this point had no idea nor any way to answer him. "All I know so far is that two days ago she suddenly appeared at home, stark naked, her hair as dark as pitch with a white streak running from her temple, and that her hair I mean is longer than she's ever worn it. As if in this last six months or more it had just grown wild." Anne rubbed her brow momentarily to gather her wits. "I'm still getting over it Robert, but I will say this if 'he' - " She looked upwards. "- had anything to do with it, I owe him my life and sanity."

She then changed the subject, thoughts of Cate still disturbed her. "You know the old saying, two's company and three's a party. Heike is going to be flat out now with three girls and she is still weening the second." How the girl coped was beyond Anne, she had enough trouble raising just two. "Sadly Lukas life these days does have more down sides than up. I can only assume they were either addicts or someone who had reached the bottom of their well."

Taking up the book again, Anne tucked it away in her coat pocket, took another sip of her now cold coffee which didn't bother her at all. "Well I suppose it could be looked at that way from a man's point of view Robert, although as we both know Ben well enough I think he'd rather hanging with his mates than be surrounded as you say by women. He's far too much like his father on that score." It was getting time for her to find out what the DEFCON status was all about, which now would involve all personnel on the base, including Robert and Lukas. "People tend to forget that little courtesy Lukas, I think humanity has reached a point where its just take for the sake of it, asking doesn't come into the equation now. There is the 'rejection' syndrome to consider as well; that tends to cloud folks judgement more than anything."

It had gone quiet, nothing more since that alarm had sounded which was either a good or bad thing. "Come on then you two, we'll go to the briefing room and find out what this is all about."

The ride on the elevators up the mountain did not take long, and barely minutes after they had left the lounge, SG-4 sans William was entering the base cafe.

<<From the Officers Lounge>>

The very instant they walked in those swinging doors, Cate's eyes went wide. So much had changed since she had last been in here, the decor, everything. The servery looked as if it were right off one of the US Navy's big CVN's, with so much variety it was mind boggling. There was a special menu selection as well if you didn't want self serve; her eyes were drawn to that and it was a Wow moment for her. Seven different types of burgers, or make your own. That was again....mind boggling. For a long moment she stood there fixed in place. "Okay, Cass you order what you want, I'm going to take a long moment here of sheer pleasure." To suit the words, Cate simply breathed in and out deeply, taking in all those wonderful smells and sensations.

Lena was already off, and if Cate's hunch was right she was looking for the biggest serving of fish and chips there was to be found, it was giving Cate second thoughts on her selection as well. So many choices.

Cass was so hungry her stomach practically lept at the smell of the food. She barely heard Cate say anything as she rushed right passed her, she knew what she wanted, she could practically taste it already! She stepped up to the counter with her tray and ordered.

"Meatloaf, big slice, with mash and gravy, extra gravy, only on the potatoes though. And peas, please!"

Cass got her plate and put it on her tray. She quickly added 2 cartons of choclate milk. She stopped in front of the desserts for a moment, there was a huge hunk of choclate cake that looked awesome, she grabbed it forgoing the blue Jell-O. She continued on and found an empty table, catching Cate's eye with a nod at the table she was headed toward. Cass sat down and without delay began shoveling!

Cate was still hovering around the counters, her eyes wide with the excitement. Elena giggled quietly, looking at that picture, because she knew that since the last time her XO was in here, a lot have changed indeed. Cass, on the other hand, did not waste a second of her precious time and had her platter full already and even ate like she was a walking furnace of an old steam train. Trying not to laugh out at that as well, Ovcharenko made her choice as well.

"Okay. This huge salmon steak. These chips, all of them. I've said all of them! Yeah, quit looking at me, I don't need a diet, just put them on that damned plate... Cheese sauce too. More. MORE! That's okay. Good, now that spring salad too and I think a litre of the apple juice will be fine. I've said quit giving me those looks, Sergeant... Can't a woman eat her heart out? Okay, thank you..."

Snatching several big slices of the black bread, Lena joined the rest of her team by the table Cass occupied for them.

"Well, what can I say, if that salmon tastes as good as it looks, then I am going to forgive the cafe for the last time..."

When the Colonel tried to get fish and chips here a few weeks ago, there was a huge mishap when a non gutted fish was cooked whole, instead of being stuffed with the yummy onions and other veggies. It was also hammered merciless, squishing all the organs and making the flesh bitter as one's love life. Needless to say, it's a really bad thing to serve that to a senior officer and CO of one of the leading teams and the scandal was enormous enough to send SG-4 on a prolonged mission to a planet where there was an abundance of the ambrosia like meals.

After all was said and done, Cate finally settled on something simple. She went for the meatloaf as Cass had done, added with some greens and a couple of roasted sweet potato pieces, a slice of wholemeal bread, an apple juice, with finally a small bowl of jello, red in this case which she added two pieces of pineapple to it.

Returning to her friends at the table without a word, Cate sat down somewhat a little uncomfortably. There were a million things weighing on her mind. Finally after looking at her food for a long drawn out moment she spoke, slowly and softly which was way out of her normal demeanor. "Something doesn't add up. As soon as we're finished with our shore leave, we need to go to Atlantis; there is something in the data base there I want to check up on." She paused, taking a very small bit of meatloaf. It was lovely, but somewhere between staring at the food and the table, her appetite had vanished. "Back on Andromeda, when we were in those ruins...which by the way we need to retrieve our vehicle, if its still in one piece....there was some really bizarre references to the Lanteans in that old abandoned city. I want to cross check it, just in case we don't get bitten on the bum sometime later."

"So you see it like this: we have four days leave, then we jump back to another galaxy, then we hop to yet another one to get to Atlantis cause you need access to the original data banks... Cate, spit it out, what was that you've noticed?"

Elena also spoke quiet and soft, but in her case it was mostly to avoid unnecessary eavesdropping by some random people nearby. Who knows what so senstitive her friend had been through? And after all, it might had been just an after shock of the turmoil she went through, and could come out to be nothing major, yet another reason to avoid raising hype when it is not needed at all.

Cass was shoveling her food carefree, she noticed that Lena loaded her plate as well and smiled to herself knowing that she wouldn't be alone in her "unlady-like" behavior. Cate was more conservative in her fare when she sat down. Cass heard Cate mention plans to head back to Atlantis and was interested. One thing she noticed was Cate and Lena seemed to mind read one another, Cass felt a little left out but she knew that Cate and Lena had been through a lot together so she understood. Cass was going to add her input but realized she didn't really have much to say, she didn't want to draw attention to their conversation, so instead of saying anything Cass simply took smaller bites so she could hear and think clearer. She made eye contact with both Lena and Cate and nodded slightly to let them know that she was adamantly listening.

"Nada." Cate said between mouthfuls, noticing quite well they needed to include Cassie in the conversation. "Cass, now that you're well and truly been given your baptism of fire with SG4...by the way where the hell is William?" Without missing a beat she plowed on. "As I was trying to explain to the ditzy Russian here, when we were in that Ancient facility the first time, when you Cass were on that data base, I noticed several anomalies. They all referred to the Lantean wars with the Wraith, but not in Pegasus which makes no sense at all. But....here is the bell ringer. Janus, Myrddin or as we call him Merlin, as well as Ganos Lal, or Morgan Le Fey; were all mentioned. Now we know the fate of the last two, but it has been suspected that Janus is still available through the Atlantis Knowledge Data base, no one has yet tried him since Morgan's timely departure. Am I making sense?"

"Will had buggered off into town, asked me to call him when we are ready to blip so he could hide behind some dumpsters in an alley from the random witnesses..."

Elena stated matter of factly, making sure to devour her food non stop, munch, munch, munch, while listening to Cate with one ear and eye and letting the twins of those to stay more focused on their surroundings. A huge chucnk of fish sent flying down to its new comfortable home, redhead replied to her friend.

"Ditzy yaself, Aussie. And yes, you do make sense. The question remains, what exactly do you want from Janus, beside the clarification of these wraith war anomalies?"

Cass swallowed a large chunk of meatloaf smothered in ketchup, took a large swig of chocolate milk to wash it down and merely said, "Trial by fire Ha!"

Cass was very interested and was as curious as Lena as to where this whole thing was going. She took another bite chewing slowly and preparing to hang on every word as Cate explained.

"Quite simply.." Cate continued, as a surprise she didn't even poke her tongue out at Lena. Certainly she had changed that much. Still she was all over the place in her talk, that part hadn't changed at all. "...damn it, that means I'll have to explain it all over to him as well."
She breathed in, taking a good dose of cafe smells as she did so. At least she was happy that Cass was now taking it all in.

"Those Destroyers were the biggest threat we've ever known since the Hozgura. Forget the Goa'uld and the Wraith, they are Kindergarten compared to them. Now this is my whole point, that data base, the sarcophagus, everything had Janus's name all over it. The original warning." Tap, tap on the table. "How much do we know about them? Have we really finished them once and for all? Will this come back to bite us on the rear end sometime later down the road? If any of us can say no they won't for sure, then I'll shut up and rest my case." Arms folded, mission completed.

"He seems to be a quick learner, so he'll need to hear a single line that we need to confirm the things are quiet, that's all. And no, right now I can't, because I have no bloody idea."

Redhead Russian sighed and chased some of the leftover chips on her plate with a fork in a random pattern.

"I think I loved the space betterer when I just thought that it's lovely, dark and deep and is full of wonderful secrets for us to discover there, not having to fight every bloody day for our mere survival, without even trying to secure our place as the top bird in the henhouse..."

Pehaps one day, much much later from today, the Milky Way Galaxy will remember humans as those who ruled every star and uplifted all the primitives, but she wouldn't see it.

"Fine. Let's finish off our food and figure out if we have to finish those off as well. Cate, when it's all over and we are granted a real vacation, we gather as much of our friends as we can, commandeer a ship, hyperlaunch far far away to an uncharted sector and live there for a decade on some ocean world, get it?"

Cass was on the cusp of saying something wordy when a young air woman slipped in. She handed Cass a message, along with a rather saddened face then left promptly. Looking a little confused she read it slowly, as if reading it one syllable at a time. Naturally Cate was curious, although not curious enough to try and sneak a look at it.

"Something wrong Cass?" Her compassionate side, rarely throw shone like a crack of light at dawn.

Still reading, Cass lifted her head, her eyes had that 'rabbit in headlights' look. "Just a minute please Cate." She continued reading a while longer.

As she did, Cate returned her attention to Lena, speaking more quietly this time. "I'm done with eating Cate. Look, lets just get on with this vacation of sorts, I mean three days is nothing to be..." Cass cut her off abruptly.

"Um, girls. I'm going to have to leave the team at least for a while. I've been offered the senior research chair at Area 51, their current one Doctor Bexley has just passed away, lovely old guy he was to. They want me to leave immediately, although I must add it is only a temporary posting so far." She looked quite happy really.

Cate though, her face dropped. They were getting along so well, melded as a team in such a short time. "Geezus....Lena, I mean Cass that is fabulous for you...but..." She was lost for words, a rare occasion.

There was something about the messages brought during the meals in the sense that they never were pleasant. At least, Elena could not remeber a single one of them be pleasant. Okay, that was her personal point of view. It all had started back in her infancy years when during a huge feast on the ocassion of her Gran's birthday a note was slipped that her uncle got that drunk that he got into hospital and died. That surely left a scar in her memory, and a signficant one too. Since then and until now, the woman got no single positive vibe from such the deliviries.

Lena leaned back in her chair and stared at Cassandra for a few long minutes, saying nothing, just drilling her through with a burning, inquisitive look. Redhead Colonel then spoke quiet, addressing nobody in particular, yet it was obvious who the quip was addressed at.

"You know, I think there's a jinx on the SG-4. It can't expand permanently to a full blown solid team, and whoever ends up on it, spends just a few days and a couple of missions with me and my XO, even if I have any, that is, and then vanishes. It's like SG-4 has became a logistics stopping point for some people's career by some reason, a point where even a quick stop is enough to get some nice credentials..."

Another gaze returned to the young scientist.

"Go as you will, but in my opinion, you are really more cut out for the research work in a nice cushy soft and safe lab, than adventuring everywhere in the Universe... Come on, Cat, let's go, find Will and get the hell outta here."

Cass wasn't rebuffed by Lena's attitude, she would have been in a worse frame of mind if she had been in her position. She smiled warmly, giving both a hug before leaving with a last few words. "I'm going to miss both of you, but if there is any way that I can be back I will be." She hated long goodbyes, so she simply parted from them to follow the young air woman out.

Once Cass had gone, Cate let out a deep sigh. "I won't dwell on it Lena. So then, we pick up William then off to Russia, or scrub that entirely and spend our three day pass in Atlantis. Up to you." She did pause, there was something that she could do in Russia and that was to see her old friend Doctor Markov.

Elena returned the hug that was given to her by Cassandra somewhat halfheartedly. Being the CO of the SG-4 was starting to feel like being in a turmoil of high school relationships all over again. Jeez. Constant emotional rollercoaster.

"Me neither. I am going to eat my best pair of stockings with salt if William stays as a member of our team for long enough to consider that permanent. And no, thank you, let's go pay a visit to my home. Chances are I have to kick some gypsies out of my flat..."

Lena awarded Cate with a smug and wicked grin and pawed every pocket on her for the cellphone, wondering why the thing you are looking for is always in the last place you're checking. She brought it back to active status and texted Will to bugger out of the public and into some dumpster.

"Let's give him five minutes to hide away and then you can call the rapid transit system."

"I can only agree on that. We've not had a good run lately have we?" She began mentally ticking off all the members of their team they've had come and go over the almost four years her and Lena had been together, it was like a veritable revolving door. "Maybe you and I are too much to handle?" She knew that was partially true, both Sharp and Blue had said as much back in the day. She was on the verge of calling up the Apollo just for the fun of it to give William a bit of excitement in his day when she heard faintly Lena's radio go off. "What now? Some crisis I expect?" She said a little sadly.

"That was your mother wasn't it as I recall Lena." As best friends, the two women shared a lot in their lives, more than most, possibly even more than family did. The fact was their lives depended on knowing exactly the nature, character and everything else in between about each other. To the extent apart for an inch difference in height in Lena's favor, the girls shared almost identical body shapes and sizes, as such even little things like underwear, if one went shopping they simply bought double of whatever it was. In fact Cate still had one of Lena's dresses tucked away somewhere.

With the next turn of phase, Cate stood there transfixed, her mouth moving around some very unpleasant words, yet silently. She'd ask for forgiveness later. "Yeah right." Her faced flushed reddish, that hue people saw often when she didn't bother hiding her feelings.

Daniel sat in the cafe eating his sandwich and drink. It had been awhile since he ate or drank anything in the past five hours, so he was starving. Taking a gulp from his drink, he picked his phone and dialed a number to reach Sam in the hospital.

After a few ringing, he inquired when someone picked it up, "Sam?"

"I'm fine Daniel really, I'm at that stage where I am feeling I should be doing more than just laying here. But please don't repeat that to Anne MacGregor, or I will shoot you." She did giggle just very faintly.

"I was just starting to enjoy this excuse for coffee!" Christian spat half amused. "Oh well lads another day at the sharp end. I suppose the Captain will ask for a full parade inspection by the time he gets off his one and half fan emails. Come on, we can at least show the rest of the base that three quarters of a team are on the ball." He pushed the cup aside, took one last bite of his marmalade slathered toast that had gone cold before ducking out of the canteen door.

Guy looked up just as the radio called for SG22 to report in. Having a good meal with his ham and cheese sandwich along with a can of Monster lite beverage, he exhaled shaking his head. The caffeine nearly went straight to his head and he could feel his heart beating. Quickly, he followed the footsteps of his team and responded, "Alright. Maybe, they'll give me something nice in the Armory." He grumbled slightly to himself.

Quickly, he caught up with his team.

SG-7 had been a bit too wound up to call it a day quite yet, and they had all adjusted to the Alpha Site's day/night cycle. And so they convened in the cafeteria and shared idle chat until they could unwind enough to sleep. All of that was dashed as the call came in for them.

"Alright, let's go...wait, did he say heavy resistance?" Brian asked as he stood up, stretching.

"He did." Nikolai replied.

"Merde, this means I'm taking a rocket launcher, aren't I?" Denis asked.

"Likely, my young friend." Stan said as he stood up as well.

It was during the time between his CO's injury and subsequent recovery period that DJ remained close to the other team members, often withdrawing back to his room to read his bible that he had tucked underneath his pillow. He hadn't fired a round from his sniper rifle recently but the effect was still the same. DJ had made the effort to call up Fox's family, just to let them know that he was safe and stable in his condition but was injured with the expectation that he would make a full recovery.

He had just been in the process of stowing away his kit and making sure that should he be needing it, he wasn't going to run into any mishaps where he didn't know where his own radio was when the site-wide PA had gone off, announcing that all SG teams were required to attend. DJ had paused for a moment, staring up at the speaker that had announced it with a light furrow of his brow before shrugging.

Everything would be explained later, especially with the mass gathering of teams in the canteen. Something was definitely happening. DJ had locked up and headed down to the canteen.

Taking her time knowing the 15 minute window was going to be used to advantage by all the team members, Maria wasn't surprised to see the young sniper from SG-18 to be the first to arrive, she had read his file so she knew this was the kind of person he was. It wouldn't surprise her either if Cate MacGregor turned up right at the last second, or late. That applied to one or two others she could think of. "Take a seat anywhere Sergeant, grab a coffee and something to eat if you wish. The Admiral wants this briefing to be as casual as possible." She told him, choosing to stand by the head table with the marker "The Boss" and beside that "XO" She straightened her jacket, glancing at her reflection in the polished stainless steel cabinet nearby. Maria would pass, but then she's been told any woman wearing the Air Force blues would.

As usual Bonnie was up early going for her early morning jog with Bryan, the two of them now openly sharing a neat Town House in Springs (for the visitor they appeared to have separate rooms). When it came time to leave for the base, they used their own cars as Bonnie had to pop into a store on the way to meet one of her cousins in regard to her brother and though as close as Bryan was, she wanted to keep this business private. The truth was, she needed to take out a Restraining Order on Max as his parole was due in the next few days and she wanted him to be kept as far away from her as possible. "Colonel Arguayo, DJ." Bonnie said softly as she came through the swinging doors.

"Bonnie, take a seat girl." Maria looked at one her few NCO friends, she could see trouble written on her face. She went to her whispering. "Is there anything wrong?"

Stuttering for a reply she said. "Erm, ah. We yes ma'am, but it can wait. I'm okay now so yeah it'll wait."

 "Are you sure?"

Already starting to move feeling a little under the spot light she feigned a smile. "Yeah, a bowl of cornflakes and a juice and I'll be poppin."

"Very well then. Others will be here soon I suppose. And while you're there grab me an apple juice please."

 "Yes ma'am."

SG-12
Major Fred Rivers
Company Sergeant Major Gary Carter
Captain Harly Green
1st Lieutenant Charlotte Summers

The team exited the lift as Fred sighed.
"Gary. I dont care if its American. its a pucker bit of kit." He said as they got to the door.
"But its just wrong..." he sighed Fred shrugged.
"Look Gary. I'm not happy about it either. I've had that rifle for like ten years now. But we have new rules, and besides the Armoury basically built you a C seven just to make uou happy. Gary sighed.
"I guess." he said before adding. "Thanks for paying for the accessories by the way." He added with a some what appreciative shrug.
"No worries. I had the money. May as well spend it on something once and a while." Said Fred. Fred was somewhat more well off than the others on his team. They had lives to support back in the UK. And at least for Harly and Charlotte, He had been earning Hazard Pay Bonuses for a lot longer. And living on the base, meant that money piled up. Harly then chirped in.
"You dont hear me and Charlotte complaining..." it was mostly teasing. Fred had complained at first but he had gotten over it, jumping in to the design process of Gary and Charlotte's new weapons, it was the sort of stuff he had once played around with as a REME armourer, so for him it was getting back to his roots. For Gary he wasnt happy at the idea but he was mostly just enjoying the soldiers prerogative. Bitching. This latest bought was brought on by his and Charlotte's latest round of re-education where Gary every now and then tried to shove his magazine in to the weapons stock. None of his complaints were serious really.
"Yeah, but Captain. Your just happy that your American Minimi now weights less and actully has some RIS on it, so your sight is no longer superglue to the weapon."  Harly just shrugged.
"True." She said Charlotte just smiled.
"Its kind of fun to see you emptional about something other than your kids for a change." She teased. Gary just smirked.
"It's known to happen." Fred sighed as they took a seat towards the rear of the room, they wernt trying to isolate themselves but they didnt want to crowd around the front. He recognized the woman at the head of the room but had no idea of her name or rank, thanks to the SGC uniforms bearing neither, but he was sure she was a higher up so felt it was time to bring their banter to an end.
"Sergeant Major." Said Fred as the two old soldiers looked to each other. "Shut up." Gary just nodded and relaxed in his seat as Charlotte and Harly went to get some drinks. Fred glanced around the room sure it was large but would it fit 25 SG teams...

Cam arrived not soon after the call went out. SG-7 was absent, he noticed. They'd been sent back to the Alpha Site after their leave was up. It was still odd that the Alpha Site had an SG Team assigned to it but it made sense too. A few teams were off-world, as well. So it wouldn't be a completely full house. He just needed to find his team, which at least was easy enough finding Jackson.

"You know what this is about?" Cam asked as he sat down across from Daniel.

"Uh no. I was planning to meet with Admiral McRaven to discuss the crystal mine site some more, and hopefully get some more info sent from the Ancient site that we started that day on." Daniel replied, "I take it you haven't heard anything either."

"Nope. Rolled in, armory wanted to show me another spiffy toy I get to take into the field, and then here I am. About sums up my day so far." Cam explained.

"Amy all moved in?" Daniel asked after a moment, changing the subject.

"Yeah. She starts at the new office tomorrow. We'll probably have a get together later this month. I'd say Halloween Party, but that might be pushing it." Cam replied.

"Well, to be fair, I'm not a fan of costume parties myself, so just as well." Daniel said.

"So...you won't be showing up as a Prior? Or a wizard?" Cam asked with a sideways grin.

"...that's not very funny." Daniel replied after a moment. That only broadened Cam's smile.

"Of course it is." Cam shot back. Daniel rolled his eyes and looked around for Vala and Kylee.

As all of this was going on, Larissa stood in the corner with a mug of coffee, watching everything. She wore a buisness suit in a female cut, black slacks and jacket, white shirt. She had a VIP visitor's badge dangling from a strap that was around her neck.

"...I'm surprised they trust us enough to let us out." The voice inside her commented. Adrestia, her Goa'uld symbiote, seemed to have developed an affinity with her hosts, able to communicate by thought between host and symbiote. While Larissa naturally thought in Russian and Adresita in Goa'uld, there was no language barrier between them.

"I think they trust you more than me at this point. I'm a liability, you're just a defector." Larissa thought bitterly as she took a sip.

"Well, as the Americans say, we're a package deal. Besides, most of these people don't even know who you are or anything we've done." Adrestia's thoughts were followed with a wry chuckle.

Well, the Russian SVR officer had to admit that the Goa'uld defector was right. No one she could see here knew about what happened in Venezuela, the Caymans or Monaco. They didn't know she was being investigated by the IOA and Moscow for enough reasons that it would be a miracle of sorts if her career wasn't abruptly terminated, if not her life. For the moment, she was some loner IOA suit that no one here knew, and that worked just as well for the moment.

"Morning, Colonel. Daniel."  A chipper voice caught up with him as she entered the messhall.  She'd been reading in her room and catching up on her project manifest before getting chow.  Now with a cup of coffee in hand, hair tied back in a short tie she offered a friendly smile to her new CO and teammate.

"Halloween huh?  Exactly what are you planning to dress up as, Colonel?  I mean, I've got that rig back at the unit but I'm not exactly tall enough to pull it off."   She mused, sipping her coffee.    "But we're just as likely to be off-world, so maybe candy and stories?  I suspect Daniel's got a good storyteller voice."

Gallagher wearing a pair of cleaned MTPs -cleaned in the sense that there were no identifying patches or emblems in it anymore. Even his beloved parachutist badge was gone. At least he had his beret, though. It was stuffed in one of his pockets somewhere.

Entering the mess hall, he immediately spotted SG-12. Not seeing any other people -he was an XO now- he decided to say hello to them. "Fred, Sar't Major. Ladies" he greeted them. "Alright? And cheers for the stuff, Fred" he spoke again. Fred had very kindly arranged for Gallagher to receive a number of attachments for his rifle without having to pay for them. It really helped him out since he had a house and a family to support back home.

He turned to Fred again. "You know what this is about?" he asked, only knowing that everyone had been called here.

Taleeya made her way from her room.  Something was going on, but what she had no idea.  She did wish though that she had Vala beside her.  Maybe the spunky woman who she viewed as a good friend would have some idea.

She stepped into the cafeteria and saw some she knew but not everyone.  She nodded to her old team mates but then slowly made her way to another table.  She really needed to get a hold of Ishta and see just what was going on.  Not that she minded helping where she was needed but her mission had been to help SG-1 in Teal'c's place.  If she wasn't needed there then perhaps it was time to return to her previous position of helping Ishta.

The jog has been good despite Bryan knowing Bonnie had bee  holding back.  No one would actually be able to keep up with her.  But the  Bonnie had mentioned having an errand and meeting him at the Base.  That threw him for a loop.  Hopefully she was okay.

DJ shifted on the balls of his feet before all jittering seemed to stop momentarily as the Lt. Colonel addressed him. It was only proper etiquette that he would provide someone of a higher rank than him with respect. "Thank you, Colonel." He nodded, before glancing over at the free seats before him. He moved towards one of the seats that hadn't been assigned, before another person arrived.

"Hey Bonnie." He gave the senior airman a smile as he finally took a seat.

That was when the other teams seemed to arrive in swathes, first SG-12 and then the CO from SG1 accompanied by Dr. Jackson and someone else. DJ simply kept watch, still settling into the whole rearrangement of his position within SG-18 to SG-4. He knew that in time that he would have to come out of his shell, and Kayla had helped a lot in that aspect but they were no longer in the same team.

As CO of SG-9, much like the commanders of other SG teams, Al had a mile high of paper work to fill in over the last week or so. Admittedly most of that had been done via a keyboard and word documents, though not all of it. There had been one or several meetings, he'd lost track of that part of the week, then finally two days rest to see his family and back to work. He didn't need Walter's call to arms, the man was already on his way to round up his team when the PA went off, Al merely altered his path to suit.

Pushing through the doors he saw immediately he wasn't the first, far from it. Familiar faces were filling the tables and chairs with at least two of his team in place so far. That was a good sign to start the day. He made his way to the table occupied by Bonnie, Bryan and the young man from SG-18, he'd forgotten his name for the moment.

"Maria, you're looking well I see." Al remembered the woman being injured some time ago, although he'd not seen her for a while, he never expected to find her here, he always pegged her as a Space girl type, not a pen pusher. As he passed the others gathered he said either good morning where he knew them, or just a hello for those he didn't. "Quite a gathering of the clans isn't it kids?" His opening was typical of him. "Reynolds, Colonel Reynolds SG-9." He said extending his hand out to DJ.

Chris wasn't sure what was going on when he heard the loud call a few minutes ago. He had been told by that young pay officer she was coming to see him later in the morning about something although she never elaborated on it. That could be good or bad either way, so he didn't dwell on it. As he entered he just saw a lot of people, only SG-9 he knew and of course his fellow Brits. So for no other reason he headed that way. "Majors." He said in his soft voice to Rivers and Gallagher, "S'arnt Major, Captain, Lieutenant." He greeted the rest of SG-12's team. Drawing up a chair at the end of the table he sat, then got up again to grab a cup of tea and some toast. As he returned to the table he asked the inevitable question. "So what's the score? This looks bigger than Ben Hur."

There were only a few to arrive, for whatever reason she knew some might be late. The only way Maria herself was able to arrive much earlier was because she anticipated the traffic this morning, with the Denver Broncos playing the 49ers later today at Falcon Stadium, there was a sellout crowd and people were coming down from Denver she noticed even at 0630 when she left home. "If I may have your attention please." She began.

"Some of you know me, most of you don't. I suppose primarily that I could put down as to having spent most of my time since joining Stargate Command aboard one ship or another. I am Lieutenant Colonel Maria Aguayo, for the next few months I'll be filling in for Lieutenant Colonel Davidson while she is taking maternity leave." While speaking she saw Catherine slipping in trying not to be noticed. Maria gave her a knowing look, although her friend did look tired.

Doing a quick look around Cate saw she was the first from SG-4 to be there, that had to be a record. Teams were seated accordingly, she thought just a little humorous in her mind to see those table tags like at a conference with each team associated with a table. Her team's table was adjacent to SG-1's, so that's where she headed after giving those she knew a wave. Sitting down she focused immediately on what Maria was saying.

"Thank you for joining us Commander, you're not last though as you might have noticed." A slight touch of jovial sarcasm. "We can proceed in any case. Those who might not get here in time can be briefed by their respective team leader since you're all here in that regard." Maria slipped on a fine pair of wire frame glasses to read her notes. "First order of business, as you are all aware of, Captain Fox of SG-18 will be on extended sick leave due to the injuries he received on that last mission. That being so we are reorganising some team members with 18 being mothballed for the next few months, or at least until the next batch of SG candidates arrives from the Alpha Site." Turning the page she looked up to see Bonnie almost grinning. "Something humorous Heckman?"

Sitting up straight like a rocket being launched Bonnie wiped the said grin off her face; she was about to give Bryan a good dig in the ribs (also not only to get his attention, he was ridiculously ticklish) "Erm, ah no ma'am." Dang it caught again. Not the first time she thought when Bonnie answered Reynolds. "Not sure sir but by the look of it right now I think our rest time is over, don't you think so Bry'?"

"As we were then. Team rearrangements. Captain Fierra is being moved to head of Logistics here at the SGC, with that Major Gallagher will be taking over as CO of SG-22. He will be assessed by Colonel James Morales, US Marine Corps. Taleeya, we have spoken to Teal'c and Ishta, they told us they'd like you to remain with the SGC for a while yet." She addressed the FJN blonde. "So you will be replacing Corporal Marasigan who is being transferred to the Alpha site in the instructor role for our newbies." There was more to come as she turned another page. "Second Lieutenant Harwood, you'll be joining with SG-1 and Sergeant Castle you'll be joining SG-4 due to Major Lebel's extended compassionate leave. Any questions so far?"

Both Guy and Taer already entered the room when the Colonel began the briefing. Guy looked at Taer and opened his mouth. Hearing a grunt from the captain, the sergeant noticed the glazed over eyes as Taer ignored him to walk over toward his teammates. "Hmm," Guy sighed shaking his head. Taer was a hard nut to crack.

Walking toward his mates, he caught the last part of Chris's conversation and whispered, "Who's Ben-Hur?" The name drew a blank on his head but he recognized him from somewhere. He just couldn't put his finger on it.

Turning around, he paid attention to Maria as she started the briefing.

@Ellen_Ripley

Meanwhile, Taer had snuck up behind Bonnie. Before he could say anything, Maria began her briefing. In his brain process, he called it off and stood to before his senior officers with the high rank of Colonel. Being behind Bonnie, he listened to her being a lil smart in a humorous way. As Captain, he had to stand to in a way of ceremony, but once in a while he would offer a grin or a side crack. But not today.

Raising two fingers toward the air, Taer had a question and cleared his throat, "Colonel. I have a small question of my deployment. Recently I was assigned to Blackbird, and now I've been transferred as temp XO of SG9," Crossing his arms behind his back, he finished, "Is that temporary? For the course of the next mission? I don't have a lot of information, but I go where I'm assigned as per orders, so I'm just wondering, ma'am."

He used to be assigned in the Alpha Site, then he gets recalled to be a part of Taskforce Blackbird, and now he's the XO of Sg9. It was a lot to handle in only a week.

With no immediate missions currently on SG-4's docket, William planned on doing some training with the newer medics. That plan was cut short, however, by the announcement for all SG teams to report to the DFAC for a mass briefing.

Filing away the training plan for the next available block of time, William followed the others streaming into the large room. As he entered, he realized this was not a totally impromptu briefing as cards on the tables directed the teams where to sit. Noticing Cate sitting towards the front next to SG-1, William headed that direction. The card marked SG-4 reenforced him being at the correct table. Taking a seat, he listened as Colonel Aguayo began her briefing.

Standing to the side of the base XO was a man of average height and build, Hispanic features and black curly hair that was going grey. He wore USMC Woodland MARPAT fatigues that announced he was a full-bird Colonel by the name of "MORALES".

He crossed over to where SG-22 was, giving a slight wave before extending a hand to offer for handshakes to the team.

"Hey guys. Colonel Jim Morales. I know you're probably looking at me, wondering who the hell this old geezer is that's gonna tell you what to do and grade you, but I'm mainly going to be offering advise and answering questions. I've been at this for a while, enlisted back in 1980, went to the Gulf the first time around as a combat engineer. Mustang'd in '96, eventually was commanding 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines. Went to MARSOC, they didnt like a Light Colonel pulling triggers so I got put behind a desk and birds on my shoulders, until McRaven and O'Neill bailed me out. So you got questions, fire away. I'm helping to improve the training program and that means I may ride shotgun with teams from time to time." Jim said in an easy going and relaxed voice, pulling up a seat.

"That's all I got, Colonel." Jim said.

"If you're not tall enough for it, why did you build it? I kind of feel like you put the cart in front of the horse, if you know what I mean." Cam said, "I didn't have any plans, but I hear Daniel was going to show up as a famous wizard. Not the one from the books, though."

"You know, that wasn't funny the first time you said it, and that time was just painful." Daniel said. "But I suspect you probably already convinced Vala of this, which means we're in this one way or the other, so...what can I do to help?" He said, directing his attention to Ky.

"Anyone recognize the suit?" Cam asked in a lowered voice. Daniel was much better now at looking without being noticed. He shook his head.

"Judging by her credentials, likely someone from the IOA, but past that, no." Daniel replied in an equally more quiet voice.

Unknown to them, though, Larissa heard them. Well, mainly Adrestia had, but they both processed the same information as host and symbiote. She did not react, merely continuing to sip her coffee as she waited for the Colonel to let her speak. Well, again, it would be Adrestia. But they wouldn't know until that time came.

"Why not take over now?" Larissa asked.

"Honestly? Because I don't like the way you do your coffee. I prefer flavored creamer as well. And I'd have preferred it from that horrible chain that Americans seem enamored with. This stuff is somehow worse, and that place seems to revel in selling bitter coffee and milkshakes dressed up as yuppie drinks." Adrestia replied. It amused Larissa to no end how the Goa'uld seemed to be affected by her time on Earth.

"There's a better chain in Canada. It was one of the perks of being moved to Ottawa." Larissa thought with a mental smile.

"Trick or treat in the park for kids was the thing I was gonna haul it out to."  She pressed her lips together at Cam and raised a brow.  "It was a senior project in highschool.    I'd seen footage of the movie being made and kind of fell in love with the idea.   I didn't finish it until I had leave from after the academy."

She shrugs a little at Daniel's comment.   "I'm flexible.  I mean for pete's sake I'm still trying to find my SG-1 mojo here.   Practically expect you guys to make me order off the kids menu if we go out to eat.  Heheh.  Anyway, don't worry if we end up doin' something with costumes we'll figure it out."  In truth the whole ordeal was a shock to her.  She didn't think what she did was worthy of the flagship team, but perhaps that was just a little bit of that lingering self-doubt she still had from her childhood that her drill sargents worked to beat out of her.    Even then, she would never stop building on her abilities, steadfast determined to be the best in her field.   Then there was just the dream of exploring the unexplored, the frontier of space.   It excited her.   The talk of Halloween?  Well, that just endeared her the Colonel some.

DJ recognised the patch as the colonel extended his hand out to him, DJ glanced up - meeting the other man's eyes as he shook his hand. "Sergeant Castle, sir." He wasn't above saying much else if the need didn't call for it, but certainly he would file away the name for another time. If he were ever in need of the CO of SG-9.

With rapt attention, DJ looked on and listened to the team changes. SG-4. That was his new team, and with that he would have to get to know most of the folks there. He gave a ghost of a smile as Harwood spoke up, it was a shame - seeing as they had only gotten to know one another, that they would be so soon separated.

But it is what it was.

SG-12
Major Fred Rivers
Company Sergeant Major Gary Carter
Captain Harly Green
1st Lieutenant Charlotte Summers

Fred watched and observed as he responded to the Para Regiment Major.
"No problem, at the end of the day its only money. Just, look after them alright?" He said he had been forced to pay a good bit of money the few times he had lost a rifle off world. He didnt need to buy a replacement rifle but the bits that went on it wernt cheap. He listened up as the new base XO began to speak. And he wondered what would happen to Fox given Fred's own negative view on the Marine during the mission that he had pointed out in his report. He meant to ask his countryman how he his smoking habbit was going but like his teams intended replies they had no chance as the briefing started. Though as it went Fred found himself listening to the new Marine Colonel and SG-1's conversation more intently.

"Charlton Heston." Al mumbled under his breath, then set the order for the team. "Traps shut people, listen and learn." He nodded to the other senior officers in the room.

Well that was a set back, Christian was thinking he'd either stay with 22 or at best his request for Atlantis may have come through. Then again the Alpha site wasn't so bad. "Nice to meet you sir, although it's going to be brief for me. Marasigan, Corporal." He returned the handshake warmly. "I've just been transferred." He added glumly.

Gallagher nodded to the other British Major. "Will do pal" he reassured his friend. Then the new woman began speaking. He couldn't say that he cared much about the fact that she was the new base XO, since it wasn't as if he really knew the woman she was replacing.

Then she said that he was the new commander of SG-22, something that he had not known until now. When she asked if there were questions, he spoke up. "Ma'am," he started. "I was led to believe that I would be the team's second in command" he stated. That had been the deal he was offered.

He shook Morales' hand. "Gallagher, sir" he introducded himself. "Major, British Army. Late of Second Battalion the Parachute Regiment" he added, touching the beret in his pocket as he did. When he was sent home, and at one point he inevitably would, he would go back to his old unit. For now, though, the only thing that told other people he was still a para was his beret.

Allowing Colonel Morales moment, Maria let it go for a little longer before pulling the reason they were here back into line. "Thank you Colonel. Captain Amir the position as executive officer on SG-9 is yours, Colonel Reynolds has given his approval so you have no fears of being moved anywhere soon." She knew this was going to get drawn out and by the clock in her head she hadn't even started yet.

Looking to rest of the group she had to lay down the law of the land so to speak. "You can chat among yourselves when the briefing is over people, for now I need your attention, or if you have a question I'll do my best to answer directly." Shuffling the papers in a stack to focus she addressed the next in line. "Major Gallagher, there is one thing you need to learn, the SGC is much like a ship and within that ship runs a rumor mill. Don't listen to it as it 'will' drive you crazy. As I said, you're replacing Captain Fierra and you and the team are to be assessed by Colonel Morales. The time taken to do that will be at his discretion are we clear on that? Now, are there any other questions before we move onto more important matters."

Cate was feeling uneasy, not with the meeting, nor anything immediately related to what was going on right there and then. It was that thing, that hairs standing up on the back of her neck and something drew her to turn to her right and her eyes met Larrisa's. The woman was familiar but she had no idea why; but that wasn't it, Cate could sense something, something that shouldn't be here. The voice in her head said one word 'Goa'úld'

Perhaps there was merit in being the quiet one after all, as the attention was pulled back by the XO of the base as she went about distributing the teams, and answering the questions that were posed by the rest of the SG members. Most of the folks had been in the game for a longer time than he had, and as such perhaps were used to things being done a certain way. But from DJ's perspective, only could see it as another learning opportunity. Though, a question had popped into his head.

He raised his hand and waited until it was his turn. "Guessing this is the disbanding of SG-18 but should Captain Fox return, would he be amalgamated into one of the SG teams, ma'am?"

Bryan glanced over as Bonnie started giggling.  He raised a brow, having a feeling she had been planning something and Maria had just saved his hide.  At least for the moment.  He knew she would get him later.  He did nod a bit.  "Yeah, never lasts long," he agreed.  Rests definitely went too fast.

Taleeya sat up straighter as Maria addressed her.  A warm smile crossed her face.  That could be interesting.  At least she knew now that Teal'c and Ishta knew what was going on as well.  She was going to miss Vala though.   The woman was the only good  friend she made so far.  Sure she got along with the rest of SG-1, but there had just been something about Vala.  They would just have to stay in touch.

Flynn groaned as she hurried into the cafeteria.  She was never late.  But somehow she had lost track of time and had had to hoof it.  A grin touched her lips though at the sight of a familiar figure.  That was until she heard his words.  "Seriously bug brother," she hissed in his ear as she walked behind him.  "Dad read that book constantly and made us watch the movie once a year," she said with an eye roll before heading over to Cate.  She slipped quietly into an empty seat.

"Sorry, Major, but we don't exactly have a ton of Colonels running around these days to run teams. Besides, you've prolly run bigger before now." Jim said with a chuckle, "Just trying something different for making sure we aren't chucking you in the deep end, that's all."

Cam looked over at Jackson with a look of mock surprise, "C'mon Jackson, the Colonel is talking. Show some manners, man."

"...why are you more annoying than usual, even by your own standards?" Daniel asked, before looking at Maria, "Sorry, I think he just had one too many energy drinks on his way in, Colonel."

Cam just snickered in response, before waving to Ky that they'd have to hold off on this conversation until later.

Larissa noticed she was being glared at, but kept the same neutral/semi-bored expression while sipping her coffee some more. Adrestia was chuckling in her mind.

"Funny. I'd heard the similarities were there, but not that stark. Still, such a bright and cheerful personality, I can tell those reports are true. No small wonder why she was cast out of where ever the Ancients are these days..." Adrestia remarked.

"...I wouldn't know. But if she's expecting a reaction..." Larissa commented.

"I'm going to bet she thinks she picked up on me like I'm some kind of spy. Probably tell the Jaffa quietly before they try to get the SFs to block the doors and then attack. It's a little too predictable. Yawn." Adrestia would have rolled her eyes from the sound of her tone.

<SG-1 Table>

Going unnoticed wasn't all that hard for Vala to do, she'd almost made a profession of it lately being back and forth with the team, a period of stand down then right back into again. She was getting far too used to life off base as far as she was concerned, that wasn't why she pledged her allegiance to this world and what it all stood for.

So far listening was easy for she knew within the next few sentences of the address Maria was going to get down to the crux of the matter; what they were going to do in regard to hitting Ba'al and hitting him hard- she hoped. She watched and observed the conversation between Cam and Daniel, chuckling now and then where appropriate. At the same time she noticed some kind of interplay with the eyes between the Russian woman and Catherine, they had the look of two she cats about to draw claws at twenty paces. Vala didn't want to be around when and if that took place.

Another unexpected transfer, this time Taleeya heading off to SG-22 while being replaced with the new girl she'd met previously from the last mission home on that mosquito riddled Jaffa stronghold. Giving Tal a warm smile that said without a word 'We'll still see each other', Vala reminded herself how easy it was to form bonds and friendships in this world they played soldiers in. Reaching across to Kylee, she tapped her arm. "I'm Vala, I'll be your mother hen for the next little while." She then gave her best cheesy at Cam and Daniel. "Neither of you can help it, you know that."

<SG-9 Table>

Albert took a moment to let things settle, then came out with the obvious. "Not from me except what exactly is our status in regard to upcoming deployments. I know the rumor mill myself only too well Colonel Aguayo, can't be trusted even an inch." He drummed the table with his fingers for a second or two. "Some rumors though have credibility, such as something is planned to take a shot at Ba'al, or am I wrong?"

Quickest way to get a lieutenant sitting straighter?  Remind them they're a Lieutenant.   Her went as straight as a board for a few moments and she listened dutifully, pressing her lips together sheepishly as she had let the caffeine talk for her a little too much, and her brain not enough.

Well, that was the story she was going with anyway.  If they didn't buy that, nervous energy.

At Vala's grab for her attention, she offered an affable smile and let herself relax as much as her military training would allow her to.

Gallagher listened to what the base's new second in command had to say and nodded. "Yes ma'am" he said when she was done. He was unhappy about it, but there was little he could do about it right now. He had no desire to command anything here.

"Sir" he said to the Marine Colonel in response to his explanation. "We may have a few things to chat about later, in private" he said, still making an effort to tone down his accent. It was not that he had no command experience. He had been a platoon commander in the Black Watch in Iraq, and had had a platoon of Paras in the Afghan. If he had wanted a command position, though, he would have stayed in his Regiment. He'd likely have a company soon if he had. But he had not accepted this assignment, which was especially hard on him because he had had to leave his family behind, to lead people. For now, he would have to 'take his lumps' --as his American friends so aptly described it-- just like he had done when he was in P Coy.

But God did he want a cigarette now. He knew he had to quit. The fact that he had to climb out of the mountain had been a decent enough incentive to at least smoke less at first, when he didn't know his way around yet, but by now it had become quite easy to make the journey.

As quietly as she could without being noticed Bonnie leaned nearer to Bryan. "Same old Bry, around you and me its never a dull moment no matter what we're doing or where we are. I just hope whatever we're up for this time we can relax a little more than usual."

Waiting a moment longer, nodding to Reynolds, Maria moved closer to the mic. "Colonel don't you love it when your wishes come true?" She wasn't a sarcastic type of person really, it was just something in her Spanish blood that made statements come out leaning that way slightly. Before she could say more though, a soft beeping sounded on her laptop sitting on the dais; an email. She read it quickly, coughed, pushed her glasses back as she resumed. "There has been a slight change. Corporal Marasigan you won't be going to the Alpha site after all, it seems your presence is required more importantly elsewhere. Pack your things, you'll be heading to Atlantis within the hour with Warrant Officer Baker formerly of the Blackbird Task Force. I'll notify him shortly."

"Sergeant Castle, that will be decided on the eventuality of Captain Fox's recovery."

Then she went back to the main briefing. "This is how we stand so far. SG teams one, four and twelve you'll be heading to P4H-51Y, known in our data base as Echmon. SG seven has been there so you'll need to get what information you may require from Major Coffin, you can conference with him via the Stargate at the Alpha Site." For now the reason they were going she'll hold back on, the reception may not be a good one initially. "SG teams nine and twenty two we need you to head back to P6G-12M and recover the last Puddle Jumper. There were some repairs needed to be done, which have been completed but unfortunately the Hammond couldn't wait around. Once you have the ship in hand, you will return it here to the base. Are we all clear?"

Cate shifted again. Giving the Russian one more glance, she then spoke under her breath to the knew team member. "Welcome to SG-4 Sergeant. You're in elite company you know that, we've never had an NCO on our team before today." He was too far away to shake his hand so she focused on Maria. "Colonel, can I ask why we're heading to Echmon? I was under the impression it had been covered fairly well and we were only waiting for the heavy machinery to move in."

She knew it. It had to be Cate. "Yes you're partially right Wing Commander. As of now we have firm intel the Goa'uld may have found the site and we need to ensure that it is safe for the Engineers to move in. Plus your three teams are the best we have to find and secure a decent base site. Any further questions?"

Well, she supposed it was better than twiddling her thumbs. "Understood Colonel."

"Colonel Mitchell?" She knew he'd have the last say.

Company Sergeant Major Gary Carter
Captain Harly Green
1st Lieutenant Charlotte Summers

Charlotte let forwards a little.
"Shame your not the ranking officer." She said softly so nobody else would hear. He just shrugged.
"Not really. Besides. I dont want to be a colonel. So thats just how things are going to be." He shrugged a little. They had kept their conversation quiet so that nobody else could hear. Though Fred did wonder why their database listed the planets name over its ID, it seamed a little odd to him, but that wasnt his concern. Infront of him Gary was visibly not to pleased, somebody that didnt know him likely couldnt see it, seeing as he always looked displeased But Fred had known him since they were both 16 and had enlisted in the military. Both he and Fred liked to work as their own team, away from others. It was something about the oversight that got them. But they were both aware they had to work with others more often than not. Though Gary had a feeling their job would be to watch the gate and secure the exit route or something like that. He felt as if his team were on the mission just as a spare. Fred watched Gary for a moment wondering what was on his mind assuming it would be no issue he looked back up at the conversation and gave Colonel Mitchell a nod.

Before Cam spoke up, it was the mysterious suit who finally did. Larissa set down the mug and let Adrestia take over.

"If you found the coordinates on P6G-12M, then I can assure you that the Goa'uld have the same information." Adrestia said, flashing her eyes once. "My name is Adrestia, I was once in the service of Ba'al, but since he decided that he wanted to eat his cake and have it too, allying with my homicidal lunatic of a brother, I've decided his interests and mine no longer coincide."

"And we're trusting you why?" Cam asked sharply. Daniel simply studied her, though both were perplexed as to why she didn't add that deep tone common to Goa'uld.

"Because I've been cooperative so far. I've no desire to rule, gave that up some centuries ago. I'm more of a....rebellious teenager, if you will. Since you people killed my father, Ares, well, I suppose I have more in common with you. Yes, I helped Ba'al since he was last here on Earth, though I can't say his plan in Asia was all that inventive or bound to succeed at any level." She said with a scoff and a grin. "So. I'm going along to hopefully convince any of the Goa'uld who have shown up on P4H-51Y. Convince them that Ba'al has no interest in sharing his rule this time. He has too many enemies now, so he's cleaning house. Either they become his servants or they die."

"Excuse me, but did you say your name was Adrestia?" Daniel asked.

"That's correct, Doctor." Adrestia replied with a nod.

"In ancient Greek mythology, Adrestia was known as the goddess of righteous retribution and balance of good and evil. Her favor was sought by both the Gods and Titans, and she was often seen alongside Nemesis." Daniel pointed out. Adrestia shrugged.

"Before my time, Doctor. But it's a case of life imitating art. I tended to work alone back in my old days, selling my blade to the locals who were rising against Deimos and Phobos." Adrestia said, "P4Y-51H is not your only stop. We are also paying a visit to a world I know as Dargaard. I don't know the location based on your methods, I had other things to deal with, as did my host. I'll let her explain." Adrestia closed her eyes and let Larissa take control once more.

"I am Captain Larissa Koralova, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service. I have been investigating Ba'al for some time now, not long after the Trust attempted to infiltrate the Russian government with Goa'uld and start a war." Larissa said, looking at Daniel.

"Yeah, I remember." Daniel replied with a nod.

"This will be primarily involving Adrestia for this operation, but we are going along." Larissa said.

"I'm not so sure that's a good idea." Cam replied, his tone still hard.

"Colonel Mitchell, I'm afraid that decision was already made. And if we were traitors, we would have already killed Sabrina Matthews, Malcolm Barrett and Sydney Bristow, as well as Anne McGreggor, General O'Neill and Admiral McRaven. We would not be having this discussion. Adrestia is doing this for entirely selfish reasons, I'm cleaning up a mess that would have been entirely prevented had things been acted on when they should have." Larissa replied.

"Hey, this is all real compelling and all, but how about we wrap up this briefing instead and get those of us not arguing to work." Jim asked pointedly.

Taleeya returned Vala's smile.  She still didn't care for the new assignment but apparently there were some underlying things she didn't know.  And it seemed like she was headed out on a mission again with a team she didn't know.  What fun that was.  The free Jaffa hissed under her breath, glaring at the woman whom had just spoken.  There was a gou'ald here? She wished with everything in her she had her staff, but she could make do.

Bryan muffled a laugh.  True enough.  They always seemed to be in trouble.  A grin touched his lips until Larissa or rather Adrestria spoke up.  The hairs stood upon the back of his neck.  "And why should we trust her?" He hissed, glancing at Bonnie.   Everyone knew about Colonel Davidson and Chimri, but the Tok'ra had cleared Chimri.  This Adrestria on the other hand was a Gou'ald.   He wasn't trusting her with a ten foot pole.

About to say something positive about the last scraps of the briefing Al was stalled with his mouth open when the odd woman spoke up. Then what do you know she's a Goa'uld with the host coming from a not too welcomed background either. While it was one thing having the Russian military representation with Stargate command it was another thing altogether having someone here from their spy agencies. What was the world coming to? He didn't envy the teams having her tag along. The explanation from the Russian at the end didn't do much to settle his attitude towards them until such time as they proved him wrong he'd be on his guard. "Very well then Colonel we'll be on the way as soon as possible. Colonel Morales glad to have you with us and Major-" His body swung in the general direction to where Gallagher was sitting. "-I can see your reaction, trust me on this, you'll be in the swing of things within a week or two and you do have a good team with you there." Al turned again. "Colonel Aguayo if there's nothing more I'd like to get things moving."

For the young man sitting at SG-22's table it was like an overload of data into an old 256mb computer, so much so his head started to ache. Then the final explosion occurred, his eyes shot up as the lady made her announcement. "For real ma'am? Atlantis?" he was giddy with excitement, so much so he almost fell out of his chair. "I'll be on my way." He told her jumping up straight, he did a half turn around before ducking out. "Good luck everyone and I hope to see you all soon somewhere." He passed SG-12 on his way, tipping his brow to the two girls. "Ladies." His grin was definitely first class rogue.  Of course he had one more target, his replacement. As he drew near the Jaffa he gave her one of his more specialty smiles. "Take care of my team won't you." and then he was gone.

Vala wasn't too chuffed about the whole Goa'uld/Russian thing herself. She was though mature enough (only recently of course) to know when to shut up. The thing was who was giving the orders around here? Had Cam, or even Cate and Fred somehow given up their positions to this woman and her symbiote? She wanted to say something, something yet as soon as her mouth was open. "I um." It was shut again. She rocked back and forth thinking of how bad this could end up being for them all.

DJ nodded at the XO's response, his eyes having refocused on the laptop when it had beeped. His head tilted to one side as he took in the changes that seemed rather last minute regarding the corporal and Mike Baker - a man he had heard by name only and hadn't had the pleasure of meeting but he had heard a few things about TF Blackbird. Not a lot, mind you. DJ had other things to think about, with SG4 being reupped to go back out into the field
again to a place called Echmon.

His attention turned to Cate, who had addressed him. "Thank you, wing commander." He gave her a small smile, nodding and falling quiet when she began to speak further. It was a honor to be on a team that accepted an NCO, though he wondered whether it would change up any of the dynamics that were already in play.

However, it seemed that something else had transpired. That a Goa'uld was sitting among them. DJ frowned, folding his arms across his chest as he fixed on Larissa but had nothing really to say.

<<Base Cafe & Kitchen>>
Lt.Donovan had been quietly observing from a corner of the cafe during the developing period where teams were broken up,other teams reformed, and transfers of personnel seemed never ending.  He was sorry to see Christian go,he had been a true asset to the team. Then, he turned his attention to the new C.O of 22,"Better make my way over and report to him. Then,as the Corporal was exiting the Cafe,he saw him speak briefly to a woman previously missed by his gaze."I wonder if thats Chris' replacement? She's next on my list, I'll introduce myself after I meet our new C.O. Michael stood up from his spot and walked towards Gallagher. "Sir, Lt.Michael Donovan, SG-22 XO."

Taking off her glasses, Maria folded her notepad. There was a curved ball and one she wasn't expecting. She'll deal with it. "Colonels Mitchell, Morales, Reynolds and Wing Commander MacGregor, we're done here and so unless there are any further questions this briefing is over. Teams please be prepared to embark within the hour. Miss Koralova I'd like to speak with you privately pleased, everyone else dismissed."

Softly Bonnie gave Bryan a quiet sshhh. "They'll sort it out Bry, not for us grunts to worry about that stuff. Can't say it doesn't worry me though, it does. We've got a job to do and I guess Colonel....." She looked at Al. "...standard gear sir?"

All this time in Cate's mind she was pacing up and down although her legs never moved an inch. This made no sense at all too her and seemingly things had gotten moved aside within the SGC's policies recently or someone was pulling a big string. Shaking her head, she knew she had a little time. "Cam, Fred I'll see you both in the Gate room, 30 minutes tops." Standing, Cate made sure her phone was in place which it was. "SG-4, lets move out." She nodded towards the door. Giving Maria one of those 'what the hell is going on' looks.

Taleeya still didn't like it.  What was a Goa'uld doing here? Before she could consider attacking the other woman Christian jogged up to her.  She found herself smiling as the handsome young man flashed her a smile.  "Count on it.  Like they are my own," she promised before he disappeared.

Bryan huffed out a breath before he said any more that could get him in trouble.  Instead he just lowered his head with a nod.  "You're right," he agreed, moving to wait for Reynolds to give them the go ahead to head out.

Flynn shuttered a bit.  A Goa'uld, here? She didn't want to contemplate that.  Her time with the Borg left her very jumpy.  Darn, she missed Blake and wondered how he was,  she glanced at her brother wondering what he would think if he knew his be y sister had a crush.  Flynn didn't have long to daydream as Cate said they were moving out.  She turned to followed her C.O.

"No, hold on." Adrestia's eyes flashed, "I wasn't finished yet. Mitchell, MacGregor, Rivers, sit tight." She set the mug down and headed to the front of the room. "Also, it's Captain Koralova, she wasn't suspended by the Russians yet. But we can deal with your need to assert your authority in a moment."

Mitchell stood up and crossed the room to stand next to Maria, crossing his arms. "You might want to try being a little nicer. Just a thought."

"I'm not interested in chest thumping, Colonel. I am also not interested in your teams not understanding what you're walking into. Dargaard is a site that Ba'al took a large interest in. So much so that he used his contacts here on Earth to put together a force to collapse the planet's government so he could move in on a fortress there. He also went to great lengths to keep a lot of people in the dark with what was actually found there. Even I don't know what was there." Adrestia explained. "And there is a brutal truth to our stop-over. The other Goa'uld need to understand that they don't get to play both sides. I suspect they won't listen, in fact I'm betting on it."

She shrugged, "You put your brother's head on a pike and people start throwing around terms like sho'va around. I have no intention of betraying you people, I'm more likely to just go on my own and gut Ba'al's organization on my own. It would just be bloody and morally questionable." Adrestia crossed her arms.

"And why are you so eager to go on your little rampage?" Cam asked.

"Yeah, while Ba'al isn't exactly a people person, historically, we tend to get burned by Goa'uld who turn on their cohorts." Daniel added.

"Yet you people side with the Tok'ra. Those people act like they invented the term compassion. Actually, I'm not on good terms with them either. Ba'al allied with my homicidal brother that I was hunting, likely hoping to get on the good graces of the last son of Ares. If you have to psychoanalyze, here's a thought - I'm a rebellious teen. I'm going against daddy's legacy because I can." Adrestia rolled her eyes.

"That's not good enough reason." Cam said.

"Then give me a pistol with Intar rounds and gun me down the second I don't seem on the level. But I'm going." Adrestia countered.

"...uh, I don't think that's a great idea either." Daniel looked to the other team commanders and others in the room.

"The Goa'uld as a society is unstable now.   Whoever's left don't have many choices and changing with the times isn't exactly option A."  Kylee said, rising to her feet.  She'd stick around with her team for now but already she was going over in her mind the things she would be needing to fetch for this mission.  Her eyes leveled on the Russian host to Adrestia.

"I'm optimistic, I wanna believe you're on the level, but realistically you should have to prove yourself before you're put out with a team."   She had reservations about her, obviously.   She'd just recently gotten out of her first major skirmish with a Goa'uld and she would hope the Colonel wouldn't walk into an avoidable situation willingly.  "With respect, sir, I agree with you and Daniel."

Not easily convinced all Al could do was shake his head. It really had nothing to do with him or his team right now, they had their own work to do as mundane as it was. Still, all too often those mundane missions turned into something more than one bargained for so there was no room for laxness from beginning to end. As the conversation took a breather, Al saw it as his chance to escape. "Thanks Maria, we'll call in at the usual opportunities. Colonel Morales, Major Gallagher, we'll see you in the gate room. SG-9 time to go." A visual nudge was all it took to urge his team into action.

<SG-1 table>

"Can I say something?" Vala interjected, at the same time as she gave Reynolds a wave. She liked the man, steady and reliable. "Look Adrestria you know I'm going to be the last to trust you right? But I have to hand it to you, it takes guts to do what you've done and no one, believe me no one knows that more than I do. So Cameron, let me be her buddy so to speak and I'm okay with her carrying a side arm for now." She thought for a moment on what the Goa'uld and the host had said earlier. "Did Malcolm Barrett trust you enough to hold something more than a pistol?" Another Tauri she had developed a reasonable trust in.

William listened to the rest of the briefing. With the Major on emergency leave, his vacancy was being backfilled by Sgt Castle from SG-18. As for the mission they were being sent on, the Colonel was light on details. The fact that they were deploying along with teams 12 and 1, told him it was likely a high profile mission. While the roster of SG-1 had changed some since the early days, it remained the flagship team of the organization.

When the briefing ended, and the teams started leaving, William intercepted the new addition to the team.

"Lt Troy, Air Force."

He said by way of introduction.

"Welcome to the team Sergeant. I'll pull your medical file from the system, but is there anything you wish to highlight?"

When possible, he liked to ask the person directly. Over the years he had become skilled at skimming medical records, but it was still alot of info to look over.

SG-12
Major Fred Rivers
Company Sergeant Major Gary Carter
Captain Harly Green
1st Lieutenant Charlotte Summers

Fred bowed his head a little as he listened to the conversations around the room. He found himself at a bit of a crossroad. He wasn't sure what to say. He glanced up to see Doctor Jackson looking at him and he gave a small barely noticeable shrug. He felt the briefing was a little lack lustre. All it they really had to go one was the planet, the fact there was a fortress with bad guys in it, and to phone SG-7 on the Alpha site if they needed more intel. Now was the time that Intel should be provided. He looked to the Goa'uld for a moment. Studying her sure she had been less than tactful during her speech, but then again he wasnt a poet either.
He glanced to Vala.
"Agent Barrett isnt known for making the best decisions in the world." he said with a light shrug. it was true that the NID Agent had been brainwashed to take a gun in to see the Ba'al clones that allowed them to see their plan through, but still. He finally looked to Koralova in the eye and sighed.
"May as well give her an Intar and make sure she's never alone and has at least two people watching her. it should be fine." Not that his opinion mattered really.
"Vala can carry some extra mags of real 9mm to give to her if anything gets dodgy and we need an Extra gun." Of course of Vala had no room in her kit, seeing as she liked to take some weird stuff off world if reports were to be believed. He did always have his back up pistol on his load out.
"its not like I trust her, but apparently somebody else has already made the decision so. we have to make do. May be worth taking some Intars or Tazers ourselves Just incase we need to..." He looked to the Goa'uld and shrugged.
"Keep her in line." It wasn't a threat. Well not exactly. It was more so she would know that it wasn't an empty promise.

Captain Taer Amir

A Goa'uld??? Here!?! The captain rubbed the sides of his nose and shook his head to curb his raging desire to kill her. He exhaled with a sigh and muttered, As if we didn't have enough problems...

Looking up at Reynolds, Taer copied his nod, "On it, sir. After you. He waited on his heel to get out soon as possible to start the mission in order to ward off the discomfort he felt within.

Some said in the day that Maria was something of a shadow to the Iron Maiden, General Lucille Chalmers. She did after all get the nick name at one time ages ago during her academy days of 'Patton', because that was exactly how many of her classmates saw her. Tough, straight up and zero nonsense. She hadn't changed a great deal, perhaps mellowing somewhat for those she was close to. Even though most of the conversation was at the end point, she had to make it clear. "Captain or Adrestia." She emphasized the rank first. "The purpose of this briefing was for me to conduct the briefing. In the grand scheme of things I would prefer that if you have intelligence on another target to be assessed, it is discussed at the right juncture. That being you 'ask' if you can present information, you do not have the authority to tell our teams 'we are going here because'. Are we clear on that?" Then she relaxed.

"Now, this is how it will be done. Colonel Mitchell, Commander MacGregor and Major Rivers will assess the situation as the facts are presented to them. Your teams will carry out the required mission as laid down and then and only then you may factor in this next hit. I want to make it clear right now, if any contact is made with the Goa'uld, we want to know about immediately, understood?"

"Oh Christ!" Cate spat as she was stopped in her tracks, not by an order but by the woman who was suddenly becoming a pain in her temples. She swung around, that old ferocious look in her eyes of the long dead past, or she thought she had buried that part of her. "I'll be very succinct with you Addy, I don't like you and more than likely you already hate me. So we're even. Colonel Mitchell is the senior officer on this do, but and I say this in all earnest, if something should happen to him, I'll make sure you're in front of me at all times. So, are we done now?"

Normally, Maria would have pulled Cate up for that outburst, in this case all she could do was shake her head. The last thing she needed now was a disciplinary action on the verge of a mission. She noted it for later, Cate wasn't going to get of free even if she thought she might. "Yes we're done. I'll see you all at the Gate room before you leave. Dismissed." Again. With one final thing to be done, Maria used her laptop to get into the base direct coms. Linking that with her radio she called the Task Force Bunker. It was answered quickly.

*Radio*

 "MacGregor."

"Ben its Maria Aguayo here. Is Warrant Officer Baker around?"

"He is, do you need to speak to him?"

She thought a minute and the answer came immediately. "No, you can tell him the message. He's being drafted to Pegasus to lead an AR team, tell him he has an hour to pack."

"Will do and Maria, find something decent for me will ya, or I will go nuts okay."

That brought a laugh. "I'll see what I can do Ben." She then had to come up with one more. Maria turned off the radio and began sifting through files.

After perhaps a minute or so she had found just what she was looking for. Now to find him. Maria logged into the CCTV feeds, scrolling through all the camera angles for the entire base over the last hour or so, she did it very quickly as it was reasonably easy for her knowing the man in question personally. Finally she found him entering the chapel. Clicking her radio to the right channel she called him. "Sergeant Jackson, this is Lieutenant Colonel Aguayo. Could you report to me immediately in the base cafe thank you."

"Yes, I know the purpose of a briefing. I've been on Earth for a while, my last host was a ranking member of a PMC. But you weren't getting to it and you dismissed everyone before I could get any further into the matter, Colonel. So don't go accusing me of holding out when you're the one who cut me off." Adrestia retorted. She then looked at Cate, "And that is the last time you address me as that. I am trying to do the right thing here, I am not demanding you all bow to me or speaking in that stupid tone that the Goa'uld use to assert authority. You may have been chosen by the Ancients, but that makes you no more a goddess than I am."

"Now, to answer the next question - I don't want a place on a team, I am here as an advisor. And as for the weapon issue, I had an assault rifle when we had to rescued Athena from the mercs Ba'al sent. But I am willing to make concessions if it means earning a little goodwill around here, not that I seem to have any around here. Because it seems I could offer to leap into a volcano and you'd have complaints on my form." She said to Ky and then Vala.

"Well it's not like you're giving us anything..." Daniel started before Adrestia cut him off.

"Don't. Because Larissa's career is all but ruined by the politics of this planet and I'm hunted by the Goa'uld and Tok'ra. I want revenge, she wants to do the right thing, and we are losing for it." Adrestia shot back.

"Enough. Everyone. This is going in circles. Adrestia, you'll be with Vala, but you are my responsibility. Fred raises a fair point, so you get an MP5 with Intars as well, and we'll pack some live rounds just in case. Cate, you two keep your distance, I'm not really in the mood for breaking up catfights today." Cam said, "We'll see if the Goa'uld are paying this crystal planet a visit. Jackson, Ky - I think SG-7 has people you both can talk to if you need to?"

"Doctor Grecko may have information, yeah. I don't remember her name, but the Swedish woman on the team seemed to be their tech expert." Daniel replied.

"Great. Then let's get going. Everyone gear up and get to the Gate Room. I want us heading out after the other teams leave." Cam said, gesturing to the door for everyone to file out of.

Gallagher nodded. "Very good sirs" he said before turning to the Australian that had just introduced himself to him. "Mister Donovan," he said by way of acknowledgement of the man. Then he spoke a little bit louder to make sure the other people in his team could hear it. "Mister Donovan, Taleeya, let's head to the armoury and gear up" he said before looking at Colonel Morales. "If you wish to join us, sir?" he asked the Colonel. He knew better than to order a Colonel around, but if he was to join him and evaluate him as a team commander, Gallagher felt he needed to exercise his authority even if he didn't want it.

As he began walking out of the room, hopefully with his team in tow, he wondered who the other persons were. He missed at least one person, he was sure. He knew the people of SG-1, and those of SG-12. That was about the extent of his familiarity with the teams. Since his crash course, he did know a few other people and could place them in their teams, but that was all.

Guy Hart, Tech Sergeant

"Huh?"

A loud, military voice broke through Guy's state of conscious. Distracted and focused on his own thoughts from the briefing and the previous mission, he didn't think to introduce himself to his new CO. Turning around, he noticed his team leaving.

"Oh, wait up!" Guy quickly followed the Major. Along the way, he did see Flynn Hart, but didn't get a chance to say hey. Disappointed, he sighed and muttered, Crap...

Following his team out of the room, they headed toward the Armory (http://lostworldssff.com/index.php?topic=179.msg68190;topicseen#new)

Without waiting further Al stood from his chair hoping his team was now in sync with him. Wordlessly he moved passed those who remained to head for the exit; grabbing a ham and cheese sandwich from the servery on his way out.

Vala shone one of her best Colgate smiles at the Russian/Goa'uld. "It'll be fine, I'm sure they'll warm up to you eventually. Oh and Cate, she's more bark than bite and I guess her anger comes with some kind of history." She didn't know much other than the woman had been captured by Ba'al nearly four years ago. What she went through possibly only General O'Neill would know.

Bryan walked beside Bonnie.  "What do you think will happen next?" He whispered,  glancing over his shoulder.  Things had certainly taken a very odd turn.  He was glad they didn't have to watch their backs with Larissa.  There was too much else going on.

Reynolds as she had found was a man of very few words. His 'SG-9 time to go' was as much as telling her yes you twit 'standard gear'. She was slowly getting him, reading him which could only be an advantage in the end. "We'll get to the Jumper, take off and go through a black hole and come out in another Universe that is all candy and joy...no clowns though Bry, I hate clowns." At least she was in a reasonable mood, that had to be a sign for the good.

Dark eyes looked up, the woman was still talking. "You have a mission, lead them out please Cameron." Without pause she only glanced at Cate. "You as well Catherine." She said that with a sting, knowing the Australian hated being called that by anyone except her mother and Maria supposed Ben could get away with it, or Jack O'Neill.

Innocently Cate just grinned at Maria, she wasn't going to ruin a friendship over a trivial thing. The last statement from Adrestia made her laugh inwardly, if only she knew the half of it. Cate was thrown out of the Ascension club on her butt, they wanted no part of a rebellious teenager in a grown woman's body no matter how many good words the old man might have put in for her. Anything she had to say was only going to waste time now, if Cate needed to say anymore to the woman, that had to wait. "Mount em up, move em out, rollin, rollin Rawhide." She mumbled half toned. "SG-4 we're employed again, let's go." She headed out behind Cam, giving Maria a quick wave but not before a familiar old face came through the door first.

"Ty Jackson!" She was puzzled by the fact she saw Sergeant pins on him, what gives? It all went far too quick though, he was up over at Maria before she could get another word out. Cate shrugged, she'd catch up with him soon.

>>SG-4 Armory then Gate Room>>

Watching them all start to leave, Maria focused on the last detail of the day when Jackson made his arrival. There was little time to answer his radio call so that few minutes ago she let pass. "Sergeant I need you to gather your gear as quickly as you can then head to the gate room to join Warrant Officer Baker and Corporal Marasigan, you're being deployed with them to Atlantis to replace a lost AR team. Do you think you can manage 15 minutes tops?"

All team members assemble in the Gate Room. Do not post in the armory, as we can write it in our next post as having been there.
