Title: PG8-K59 Alpha Site- Infirmary
Post by: Mim on February 06, 2014, 01:20:20 AM

Hours passed, night passed and Maria dreamed heavily. Her shoulder had been set, her busted arm fixed and she had a massive bandage around her head, they fortunately didn't have to take any of her hair, her one precious commodity in her opinion. Morning came and the good Doctor Daniels came and informed her, due to the situation on the Alpha Site, she was being sent home. Maria was grateful to him, sure he had fixed her up and it was now up to Maria to heal, but she was wasting her time here and anxious to see her crew mates again. Ten minutes after dressing and being signed out she was headed for the Gate Room

Satish and the two Marines did indeed meet the med team on the way. They were somewhere in between changing elevators when one of the Marines saw Doctor Daniels and 2 orderlies getting into another elevator. Only with the sound of his loud voice, were they able to save time. The orderlies took over the litter, but Satish stayed with Flynn until they had her in ICU.

{Doctor Gordon Daniels} NPC

"Thanks Satish, you may want to wait here though. Please" He said kindly.

Satish looked at Flynn, saw that she was in good hands, then gave a half smile. "No its okay Doc. I better get back to the Control Room, but let us know as soon as she's stable."

"You have my word on it. Okay people, move her into theatre. Miriel, Rachel, get her cleaned up. I'll be there shortly." He bent to Flynn, face close to hers. "We'll have you right as rain in no time Flynn, I'm Gordon Daniels."

With that, Satish left, feeling a little lighter of heart. The two nurses waited, as soon as Flynn had spoken with the MO, she'd be on her way to being brought back to the land of the living.

Flynn had closed her eyes and managed not to whimper too much as she was jostled on the litter.  They were trying their best.  Just every movement hurt.  Flynn wasn't sure what was still attached to her body and what wasn't.  Her head hurt and she certainly couldn't think straight.

Flynn managed to give Satish a half smile.  "Thank...you," she croaked, her brown hair falling into her ashen face.  She looked awful and it was a miracle she was still alive.  She then turned her attention back to the doctor, barely moving her head as it only made things start to swim.  "Okay," she managed.

The nurses wheeled Flynn away, Gordon stood there watching for a moment. Once she was screened off and her privacy assured, he stood outside the screen. "If you need anything now for pain Flynn let me know. Otherwise if you can manage to speak, it will save a lot of time if you can briefly tell me where you're hurting, before we examine you."

Flynn wasn't sure if pain medication would do any good.  She hurt everywhere.  She opened her eyes briefly as the doctor spoke to her.  "Pick a place....that doesn't hurt," she whispered, trying to make a joke.  It was easy to see that her leg was a big problem.  Bone was visible and there was no way she could move it if she tried.  "Head," she managed.  "Some kind...of device.  Took...memories."

While Flynn talked, Rachel and the other Nurse, Miriel, got busy cleaning Flynn up. They were extremely gentle with her, know she was in a bad way. It took them ten minutes or so, and even though as delicate as they were, Flynn must have felt every single move they made. But soon enough it was over and they slipped a ward gown on her, taking all her clothes away to be burned, they were useless to Flynn now. Her personal possessions, they placed in a sealed bag. "She's ready for you now Doctor Daniels."

Gordon pulled the curtain back, allowing his nurses to leave. At Flynn's bedside, he made sure that she was comfortable with him. "I'll look at your injuries now Flynn, if at any time I hurt you, don't hesitate to let me know okay?"

Flynn whimpered softly as the nurses tried to be as gentle as possible.  She knew they didn't mean to hurt her, but there wasn't really anyway around that.  Not with how extensive her injuries were.  She probably would have been squirming if it didn't hurt so dang bad to do so.  Instead she lay in quiet pain, moans and whimpers the only sounds she made.  She looked up when the doctor walked in again.  She already felt naked without her necklace from Fred.

The young woman nodded.  "Okay," she said softly.  "It will hurt...no matter...what."  She really didn't know the extent of her injuries, but she knew they weren't good.

Flynn's injuries were bad, Gordon could see that even at a glance. The first thing though that needed to be taken care of was her leg; his nurses had already given her other wounds a clean and dressing, they would be looked at more closely later. She may well need a skin graft on that terrible burn on her neck as well. From the looks of it, he would say she had been tortured, that must have been the device she spoke of.

"Right, I'm going to give you a pre-op Flynn, you'll feel light but not too sleepy. Once you're in the OT, you'll be under until we can ascertain exactly what we'll do for your leg. If it needs pinning, we'll do a temporary cast here and then send you home as soon as possible. How does that sound?" Gordan pulled a trolley over by her bedside, made a small IV insertion in the top of her wrist and administered 10cc's of Fentanyl, for pain control and 15cc's of Versed to relax her as much as possible.

Flynn lay in pain, trying not to move and not think about what she had just gone through.  She didn't want to think about anything.  Actually, all she wanted was her mother.  Her mother could fix anything.  And it had been years since she had wanted to cry on her mother's shoulder.

The young woman slowly looked toward Daniels' voice, trying to register everything he was saying.  "Alright," she said softly.  "I would like...to go home."  She had no idea how bad her leg was.  She knew she couldn't move it though and that scared her.  A single tear slipped down her cheek as she tried hard not to whimper.  The pain was almost too great though.  She wasn't a soldier. She was a scientist.  She hadn't been trained for this type of thing.

With a nod of his head, Gordon pulled the covers back over Flynn, she would be almost on the point of sleeping now and that was the best thing for her. His two Nurses and an orderly came in, pulled her bed around and as they wheeled her to the OT, Gordon bent close to Flynn's head, while she still had some consciousness. "The pain should be quite manageable now Flynn. As soon as we have you under, we'll do an x-ray, then set your leg. I'll attend to your other injuries as well, so you'll be up and about in no time. Given that hopefully you don't need any further surgery, you should be cleared for light duties in six weeks."

{Captain/Doctor Angelica Dawson USN} NPC

As the orderlies wheeled Flynn to the operating theatre, Gordon walked beside her, keeping an eye on the small machine attached to her and sitting on a tray at the end of the gurney. She was steady and stable which was a good thing. Once inside, another Doctor came over and for a moment the two medics were in deep conversation. Flynn's blood type had already been matched and several litres were on hand just in case. Gordon stood at the side, near her the anaesthetist, Doctor Angelica Dawson was behind her head. She placed a mask over Flynn's face. "Start counting from 100 backwards Flynn, and sweet dreams to you. We'll see you on the other side."

Flynn's eyes were half closed already.  Whatever he had given her was starting to work and she was actually able to relax a bit despite the pain in her leg and arm.  She didn't want to think about anything else either as the torture at the hands of the Borg had been something that would haunt her dreams for a long time to come.  "Thank...you," she managed as she drifted further into sleep.

Flynn didn't even respond to Angelica as she started to count backward.  She didn't even make it to twenty before she was out.  Her skin was still pale though, but thankfully her breathing was even.

After two long hours, the operation was completed. Luckily for Flynn, her leg wasn't as bad as it looked at first. Yes it was an 'Impacted' fracture, her femur snapping cleanly in two, about 150mm above the knee. With some strong hands from two of the orderlies though, that was soon set straight and Flynn now wore a fibreglass cast from just below her groin to her foot. A pin and plate had been fitted, which would allow Flynn to get up and about without crutches in a few days. She would be in the cast for approximately 4 weeks depending on how well she heals, but there was no reason why she couldn't return to light duties after 10 days or so rest.

The wound was another thing, it was neatly sutured, only infection would be regarded as an issue, Flynn would have to be diligent in keeping it clean. The burn on her neck was attended to as well, a small skin graft using the latest technology took care of that, and an old wound on her arm, a day or two past was repaired.

"How she doing Angelica?" Gordon asked as he finished.

"Fine, she's a strong girl. I can see her doing laps of the SGC pool soon." She replied, her eyes giving off her smile.

"Good then, we're done here. Rachel, you can move her into post op and recovery now if you would. I have one of the locals to attend to." He took off his gloves, left the OT by the scrubs room and left his team to clean up.

Doing her rounds was easy, for the moment, Flynn was Rachel's only charge. She was reading her chart and monitoring the machines, when Flynn's eyes fluttered a little. Rachel went to her side. "Hey there Flynn, how are you doing?" She asked quietly. "I'm Rachel by the way."

Flynn never even moved during the whole procedure.  She would whimper every once in a while, but it was more in reaction to a dream or the slight movement then actual pain.  It took her a while to come back around though and when she did wake, she couldn't remember where she was.  Nothing was real clear to her to begin with.

Flynn turned her head slightly, squinting her gray blue eyes.  She thought she had heard the voice before, but she couldn't place a name or face with it.  "Sore.  What...happened?" she asked, her voice still hoarse and her throat a bit raw.  She only knew bits and pieces.  The last clear thing Flynn could remember was dialing up the gate to get home.  Then instant pain shooting through her leg as she was flung through the gate.

{Lieutenant Rachel McAdams} NPC

Rachel was a big girl, rather big. She would give the immediate image to most of that Australian girl, Rebel Wilson, in fact she had much the same sense of humour. Only where Rebel's hair was blond, Rachel's was a deep red auburn. She had rosy cheeks and a jolly face that just wanted you to find a reason to laugh. "You were pretty beat up Flynn, somehow you managed to gate here, this is the Alpha site hospital. The Doctors have just managed to put you all back together and I must say, humpty dumpty would be very envious of you." She grinned broadly and took a chair. "Don't ask for anything just now, no water or food for at least a few hours, you'd only give me a job cleaning you up. Think you can manage that? Oh, would you like General Chalmers to see you? Our commander. I guess you might want to send a message home."

Flynn reached up to rub her eyes a bit.  She still had a faint headache just behind her eyes, one that she wasn't sure would ever go away.  She did manage a smile though for the woman in front of her.  She seemed friendly enough and it didn't seem like she was hiding anything.  She also didn't beat around the bush.  "The last thing...I remember...is dialing here...with my computer...then pain and blackness."  She did remember voices and answering questions, but she didn't remember it clearly.  She nodded.  "I can...do that."  Flynn wasn't feeling real hungry at the moment anyhow.  Her stomach was actually roiling a bit.  "Yes...please."  Sending a message home would be great.

"I think I'm safe in saying you got lucky sweety." The big girl put her hands on her ample hips and smiled, one of those kind of smiles that made you feel at peace. In another world and time, Rachel could have been an angel, with a slightly fuller figure. "In a little while I'll help you bathe, we only cleaned you up where necessary earlier. If you need to go to the bathroom, just hit the buzzer here and I'll be back. I shouldn't be gone long in any case."

Flynn nodded a bit.  It did sound like it.  How she ever got away she didn't know.  Although she was still confused as Yarku and Ziggesh hadn't wanted to hurt her.  So, did that mean that not all the Borg were unkind?  She just didn't know.  Flynn managed a weak smile for Rachel.  "Thank you.  I would...appreciate that."  Getting cleaned up sounded heavenly.  She felt dirty and hoped that getting cleaned up might help her a bit.

"Knock, knock!" Rachel announced on the door post of Flynn's room. Normally it would have four patients, but for the moment, she was the only one in post op. On her way past the Nurses station, she picked up a small plastic bag, full of different coloured felt pens. "I have a visitor for you." She said, plonking the bag on the bed. "I'll just prop you up some Flynn, easier to talk that way, rather than flat on your back. The General can stay for 15 minutes, then we have some work to do. Oh and you know what these are for don't you? Its a tradition for bone breakers." Pointing to the coloured pens.

Grabbing two extra pillows, she propped Flynn up to a reasonable sitting position. "Now you're all set for a nice chat. I'd bring you tea sweety, but as I said, you'd only make a mess for me. I'll be back soon."

Flynn looked up and gave Rachel a small smile.  She was still woozy and sore, but she was liking the nurse.  She could put a smile on anyone's face.  Flynn nodded.  "Sounds good."  It hurt to move, but it would be easier to talk while sitting up then laying down.  But oh how she wouldn't mind a cup of tea.  Well, she would just have to wait apparently.  The young woman actually chuckled softly when she saw the pens.  "But of course.  What's the fun of having a cast....otherwise," she said, having to say her words slowly.

"Of course General, I'll be right outside." Rachel said before leaving. "Oh, but excuse me for just a moment. I do need to do this." She picked up some pens, pulled back Flynn's blanket and began writing. When she had finished, she was quite proud of her work. Rachel had drawn a little cartoon of Flynn and the Borg, with her telling the beasts, they had best be wary, her leg was now loaded and dangerous. She signed it off, get well soon, love Rachel. "Another hour or so, after you're washed, we'll see if you can eat." She left the two of them then, wandering outside to find something meaningful to do. Which was hard with just one patient on hand.

Flynn turned her attention toward Lucille when she stuck her head in, but then looked down as Rachel moved her blanket.  A smile touched her lips as she looked at the cartoon upside down.  It would bring a smile to her lips every time she looked at it.  "Thank you," she said softly.  Getting cleaned up and then trying to eat sounded good to her.  Flynn then turned to Lucille.  "General," she said with a tip of her head.

It was said that Lucille didn't possess a funny bone in her body, true, she often quoted that herself. But with young Rachel around you couldn't help but chuckle and the base CO was quite certain she could make the grimmest person alive raise a smile. She held back a small chuckle, if only to maintain her persona. Taking the chair by the bedside, Lucille waited until the jolly nurse had finished, then taking out her ever present note pad and pen, she began. "I won't unsettle you for too long Flynn, but as you would expect, we need intel on these Borg. Can you tell me, briefly, everything you recall from the moment you were taken."

Flynn stayed laid back against the pillows that Rachel had propped up for her.  she didn't have the energy yet to move much and with the way her body felt she wasn't sure she could move.  She nodded a bit, knowing that Lucille needed to know as much as she could remember.  "Honestly, I can't...remember a lot," she admitted sadly.  Something had happened that had erased her memory to a point.  "I remember...being taken."  She preceded to tell Lucille what she could remember about Ziggesh and how he had helped her up to meeting Yarku and the ships they had worked on. She also told her what she could remember about the set up of the camp and of course the king that was not at all kind.  A few tears slipped down her cheeks as she remembered the devices that they had used on her.  she had never felt so vulnerable and taken advantage of before.  The experience had been awful.

The notes were flowing in Lucille's neat script. She could have as easily used a personal recorder and had her clerk type it up later, but she was old school and loved nothing more than seeing the works of her own hand. Listening to Flynn, she wasn't about to make rash judgements, but she felt there were a few gaps. Yet the young woman was under stress and to push it too far could make it worse for her in opening up. "Take your time Flynn, the most important thing we will need to know is to assess the level of technology they have available to them. We know they're using Hozgura ships and weapons. What we would like to discover is how well they are using them."

Flynn was trembling a bit.  She didn't want to try to remember what she had gone through.  It was too painful and she had a feeling that it would haunt her dreams for years to come.  Actually, she had no intention of trying to sleep for a while yet.  She didn't want to chance dreaming.  The young woman opened her eyes again and looked up at Lucille, her face pale and her eyes full of fear.  "Not well.  I showed...them how to...fix the ships," she said softly.  "Still have...a lot to learn though."

Flynn bit her lip.  She knew she shouldn't have done it, but they had threatened her life if she didn't comply.  "They promised...to let me go," she whispered.  Of course you could see where that had led.  She gently massaged her injured arm as she thought.  Flynn soon shook her head.  "They just kept...me to fix the ship."  Then she suddenly paled.  "Did mind probe.  They know...everything I do."

There was a lot more to go over in Lucille's mind, but she would leave that for the psych evaluation once Flynn was back at the SGC, she would be more than likely stood down for a while at least, especially since she would be out of action for some weeks. "Very well Flynn, that should be enough for me to make my report. If you do though, think of anything useful concerning the Borg, let Nurse McAdams know within the next few hours. My report will be sent sometime later today, so you have time. Would you like some time alone, or shall I send Rachel back in to you?"

Flynn nodded.  She didn't know how much more help she would be, but she would do what she could.  Right now she was still in shock, so everything wasn't coming to her.  "Thank you," she whispered.  She thought for a minute.  "You can send her...back in."  A nice long bath or shower sounded very appealing right that minute.  Wash away some of the things that had happened to her.

"Yes ma'am." Rachel replied with an embarrassed look on her face. She had brought a pair of crutches as well, Rachel moved past the base CO, keeping her head down as she did.

"Whew, sprung again." She laughed. "Right Flynn, bedtime over, you're going to have a decent wash first, then I'm going to get you up on these.." She laid the crutches by the bed.  "Tell me now if you need anything for pain, because the first time is going to be a doozy."

Flynn watched Lucille leave.  She felt like she hadn't been much help, but at the moment she didn't know what else to say.  She smiled though when Rachel returned.  The nurse seemed to be able to make anyone smile.  "That sounds...wonderful," she said, not having had a proper shower in what felt like ages.  "I'm okay," she answered.  The pain wasn't bad at the moment.  She had a feeling she would be sore though after trying the crutches.

"Absolutely sure?" Rachel said with a grin. "Just the same, I'll need a chair for you, to go to the shower, won't be a sec." She said as cheerfully as she always did. Sometimes you needed honey with the medicine, fortunately for the Alpha Site, Rachel was that honey. She ducked away and two minutes later she wheeled one of those special hospital bathroom chairs in, even had the little commode hole in the seat, it was all white plastic and shiny stainless steel. "Okay sweety, lets get you into this. Legs first, slowly now, it will hurt, just twist and gently lower your legs over the side. I'll hold you all the way."

Flynn nodded.  "I'm sure."  Or at least she hoped she was.  She had never experienced anything like this before or had her pain tolerance tested to this extent.  She watched Rachel bounce out, having to smile.  The other woman certainly seemed to be a ray of sunshine.  Which right now was what Flynn needed.  She wasn't sure if she would ever be the same again.  Flynn studied the chair, not believing she had been confined to a chair like this.  Well, at least it would let her get up.  She carefully swung her legs over the edge, but gasped and nearly crumpled.  The pain was like a knife through her body and brought instant tears to her eyes.  "Ow," she whispered.

McAdams was from  the south, deep south in Alabama and as such it was a matter of pride to her to be totally hospitable no matter what the circumstances were, especially with her patients, if they were in dire pain, she would make sure they were at least happy and smiling at the end of the day. "Told ya." She said, slipping her strong arms under Flynn's. "Flynn, if ya'all are want to cussin, feel free as its only me and you."

Getting Flynn into the wheel chair was relatively straight forward, Rachel could lift some heavy weights, she had to. Most of the patients that came through here were big burly men, both marines and locals. "Okay now the fun starts, off we go." She wheeled her into the bathroom attached to the ICU, it was large, meant to accommodate both the chairs and even a gurney if needed. Rachel slipped on a plastic full length apron, left Flynn for a moment while she retrieved a towel, soap, washer and of course a gown and standard SGC pyjamas for Flynn to change into.

"I'll slip your ward gown off for you, wrap your leg with this.." She held up a standard plastic garbage bag and some tape. "...and you can see how well you do on your own. I'll wait though, just in case." She did as she said she would, removing Flynn's gown, then slipping the bag over her plastered leg and taping it. Rachel had Flynn positioned close enough to the flexible shower nozzle and taps, she could set herself up with it.

Flynn's face had paled slightly as she fought back the pain, but felt slightly light headed.  "Oh you have no idea how much I want...to," she smiled.  She could only imagine what Guy would think if he heard his baby sister swearing.  Right now though when a lot of help from Rachel she was able to get around a little bit.

Flynn leaned back in the chair as Rachel pushed her toward the bathroom.  As much as the pain was nearly unbearable, the thought of getting clean again was helping to keep her spirits up.  That and Rachel's ever present smile.

The young woman nodded, nearly laughing when she saw the garbage bag.  "Feel like...there should be duct tape...involved," she grinned.  It would be something that her and Guy and their parents would do.  Flynn gave Rachel a smile as the nurse did just as she said she would.  It took Flynn a bit to get the shower adjusted, but she slowly worked at getting herself cleaned up.  The water felt wonderful even though it stung her injuries a bit.

Of course when you were incapacitated as Flynn was, there would always be areas one couldn't reach. Rachel was well aware of that herself, having been in this very position just a little over a year ago back at the SGC, having broken her ankle playing basketball in the base carpark. "Here Flynn, I'll do your back and free leg for ya, and of course your hair. Would you like some conditioner? I have some lovely organic stuff you might like. Wouldn't like to see that lovely head of hair go to ruin  with chemicals would we?"

Flynn was grateful for Rachel's help.  Okay, a bit embarrassed as well, but at least Rachel was female so it wasn't nearly as bad.  And there was no way she could reach everything.  "Thank you," she smiled.  "And oh, that sounds wonderful."  She was sure her hair was a stringy mess.  "I'm so not...used to having to... rely on others...for help," she admitted softly.

Humming and singing in a rather fine if throaty voice, Rachel went to work. Hair first. She also babbled on as well, it was her personality, and it helped put others at ease. "I come from a hillbilly family of twelve kids Flynn, I was third in line, oldest girl. I only had two brothers and everyone after me is a girl, so you know, helping mama comes natural to me. I think I've seen every one of my sisters in their birthday suit at some time and bathed them as well." She carried on, finishing up with Flynn's right leg. It was a lovely thing to do, something of a bonding as well. Soon she had her rinsed off and began drying Flynn with a soft towel. She stopped at the intimate level, handing the fine cotton cloth over. "You can finish off, I'll wait for you. Your nails need doing, and I can put some make up on to cover those scratches on your face after we've put the PJ's on."

Flynn started to relax as she listened to Rachel sing and let her help her get washed off.  As Rachel washed her hair it nearly put her to sleep.  "Twelve?  Wow.  I only have a brother."  She couldn't imagine having twelve. Guy was a handful as it was.  No wonder Rachel didn't have a problem with her job though.  Flynn accepted the towel and carefully finished getting dried off.  "I thank you for all the help, Rachel," Flynn said with a small smile.  She nodded,  Getting her hair done and makeup on sounded perfect to her.

((OOC I'll do a tiny bit of god modding just to get Flynn dressed and out of the bathroom  ))

"It's my job, and besides, how often do I get a hot babe like you to work my magic on?" Rachel joked. It was partly true though, 99% of her patients were male, it was rare for a woman to come through the medical unit, must be that they were tougher, Rachel certainly thought she was. The bathing part done, next came getting Flynn dressed; which was straight forward from Rachel's point of view. She had a larger pair of granny undies to slip on Flynn, that had to be, to get over the cast; next came the pyjama pants, she slipped those over, they were a little tight over the left leg, but finally the came up to the waist. Next change she would get a larger pair. At last came the shirt, Rachel had Flynn, slip an arm in, one by one, it was a good fit, the very last thing she did, was to button it up for her.

"There now, you look a picture of the pyjama girl. Come on, we'll get you all fixed up and we can start that training on the crutches. The Doc aims to have you out of here in less than a week. Which will be a shame really, I'll miss you Flynn, don't get much chance around here for girly talk." The chair squeaked a little as Rachel pushed her patient back into the room. She ducked away for a few minutes, coming back with what looked like her own make up bag. In less than twenty minutes, she had Flynn's face done and her nails clipped and polished. She held up a mirror for Flynn to see. "Can't even see the scratches now can ya?" She asked happily.

((OOC: no problem!  :D ))

Flynn flushed a bit, but then laughed softly.  She could only imagine what type of people Rachel had going through here.  It had to be a tough job.  Flynn wasn't sure she could handle it.  The young woman did her best to help Rachel with the clothing, but it wasn't the easiest.  she hurt all over and if she moved the wrong way then instant pain shot through her body.

"Thanks," she said gratefully.  It was nice to at least be in clean clothes again.  "A week?  Really?"  Oh that was good news.  Flynn frowned slightly though.  "Hmm, we'll just have to keep in touch.  Surely you have a computer around here."  She didn't want to lose touch with Rachel completely.  Flynn stared in the mirror though when Rachel held it up.  "Wow!  You're amazing!" she commented.

She had to admit, Flynn came up rather nicely, but then again, Rachel did have great canvas to work on. "I told ya, 9 sisters, I've had plenty of practice. I got my papa's genes, the rest of them got mama's. Just imagine a girl like me, living with 9 Daisy Dukes and you get the picture. I figure though, I got the best, brains and brawn, although I have no idea where the brains came from, they certainly weren't in abundance in my family." She did like to prattle some. "We have emails back and forth once every week with the SGC, so yeah, it won't be a problem keeping contact. So, we ready to take the next step Flynn?" Rachel nodded at those dreaded crutches.

Flynn found that hard to imagine.  Of course she thought Rachel was pretty in her own rights.  And there were lots of times that Flynn didn't even think about her own looks.  "Your poor parents," she laughed softly.  "And there is nothing wrong with having brawn and brains.  that's a good mix."  Flynn frowned at the crutches.  This wasn't going to be easy at all.  "Guess I don't have a choice.  I don't want to be stuck in bed for too long," she said softly.

"Poor is what I would describe them as. Papa never did a days work in his life, not real work anyway. Was merely content to fishing and making bootleg. He said too often, he had too much intelligence to cope with the stresses of paid work. Mama, she brought home the bacon when she could, either as a secretary for the Sheriff, or writing articles for the local paper." In truth Rachel would have to admit, it was mama who really had the brains, even if she never finished high school. "You might laugh Flynn, but I had more guys chasing after me, than my sisters ever did or have. Don't know why, but one boy said to me once, he found my brains sexy? Go figure. Anyway girl, lets get you up. Lean on me, lower your good leg down gently, then bring the left down slowly, but keep all your weight on me okay?"

Flynn was surprised by Rachel's words.  One thing her parents had instilled in both her and Guy was never be afraid of hard work.  And neither of them were.  They'd jump in at a moment's notice.  She smiled at her new friend though.  "Sounds like they made the right choice then," she grinned.  She pretty much ignored the guys when she was in school.  Flynn wasn't looking forward to this, but she carefully swung her good leg to the ground, wincing slightly as she moved.  She nearly fell, but thankfully Rachel was right there to keep her steady.

The aluminium crutches had already been set for Flynn's height while she was under a little early, standard procedure. Rachel put them one at a time beneath each of her arms, gently. "I think they did. Besides, I've never seen two people so much in love as my folks and that is all that really counts ain't it?" She said.

Rachel stood in front, her hands on Flynn's shoulders. "Now, lean forward just a little, right foot first, half a step, as that one touches the floor, with your crutches in front, swing the left up to meet the right, then repeat the procedure. I'll step away as soon as you're ready."

Flynn gave Rachel a smile.  She liked the nurse and it made it a lot easier to go through all the pain.  "That is the important thing," she agreed with a smile.  Rachel made it so easy to talk to her.

Flynn took a deep breath.  She hadn't used crutches since she was a kid and her leg hadn't been injured this badly.  Of course she still wasn't sure what her injuries were.  All she knew was that she hurt.  She nodded and tried to follow Rachel's instructions, but gasped in pain and nearly buckled.  Apparently her leg was injured worse then she thought.

"You're doing well Flynn, don't let the pain be your enemy, embrace it. Remember what Alex said in Madagascar, 'Melman, its all in your head' " She stepped back to allow Flynn a little more room and movement, yet stayed within arms reach in front of her. It was important at this early stage for a patient to find their confidence, a breakdown in that now, will see them take longer to walk and consequently, the healing will take longer as well. "That pain you are feeling, is not the break, its the result of the surgery, it will pass the more you do... to an extent. So, to the door and back Flynn, then you can rest, for a bit."

Flynn wasn't so sure she was doing well, but if Rachel said so then she had to believe it. A slight smile touched her lips at Rachel's next words.  "Alright, I'll try to remember that."  She hadn't realized that.  she didn't remember anything about surgery.  She barely remembered getting to the Alpha Site.  All that she could really remember clearly was the torture.  Even memories of her past were very blurry.  "I'll give it a try."  Flynn gritted her teeth and carefully made her way toward the door.  It took quite a bit out of her to get there and back again.

"You're doing great Flynn, I've seen big burly marines break down and cry at this point....come on girl, push it, go back again!" Rachel told her. She could be hard at times, but in truth it was all for Flynn's benefit. The more she worked at this point, the quicker she would recover. Rachel though, did stay quite close, just in case.

Flynn was close to tears when she finally got back to the bed and collapsed on it.  She closed her eyes and tried to stop shaking.  It had taken all her will power to make it back again.  "I can see why," she managed to say, although her voice shook.  This certainly wasn't going to be an easy road to recovery.  Flynn was way too stubborn to give up though.

Watching Flynn, was something akin to watching pain in motion. Rachel would be the first to admit, the girl had spirit though, yet there was a point that one would reach where you would simply give and think 'this is madness'. The chief nurse didn't want Flynn to reach that point, at any stage. "Rest now Flynn, see if you can manage to sit on your own... in the chair." She pointed to the big comfy hospital arm chair provided for her. "Once you've had a chance to catch your breath, we'll go into the hallway for a bit of length. If you've satisfied me you can do that without falling over, we'll tackle the stairs next." He grin was definitely devilish.

Flynn was breathing a bit hard, but refused to complain.  She was not going to be stuck in a hospital bed.  She wanted to get back home, not to mention she felt vulnerable this way and she wasn't giving the Borg an easy target if they came back.  Flynn collapsed into the chair, but winced.  She gripped the arm as she pulled herself to a sitting position.  "Darn, I've never hurt this much," she said through grit teeth.

"You have actually Flynn, remember your first hit it the chest at softball, the first time your coach in high school pushed you harder than you ever thought possible. Remember all those painful times as a teenager, when you thought the whole world was against you? I do, every day of it, this is easy." Rachel could be a very hard task master, she had to be. Finally she said. "Think of all those boys and girls coming home from Afghanistan, arms and legs missing and they don't have access to the care we could give them here or in the SGC. So... still hurting?"

The young woman looked up at Rachel with wide eyes that only looked wider thanks to the makeup job Rachel had done for her.  Flynn hadn't even taken the time to consider all of that.  Right now she was just pitying herself and there really wasn't a reason to.  She was still alive.  Well, mostly.  Okay she would have nightmares the rest of her life and she was pretty sure that there were things that she wasn't remembering clearly.  "Mmm, no, I'm not," she whispered, feeling embarrassed.  "Guess I have no reason to complain."

"Good!" Rachel nodded, maybe she had been a little extreme and maybe she 'might' have lied a little about the marines, but it did have the desired effect. "Now before we set off on our next little adventure, I think enough time has passed for you to have a bit to eat, small mind you, but something at least. Think you might manage that Flynn? I know for sure I could do with something, wouldn't want to have me waste away would you?" That last remark was extremely unlikely.

Rachel's plan had worked.  Flynn wasn't feeling sorry for herself at the moment.  Still hurting and the dreams would come back as soon as she closed her eyes, but for the moment those were behind her.  Flynn smiled a bit.  "I am a little hungry," she agreed.  She couldn't recall the last time she had actually eaten.  And eaten something worth eating.  Yes, the Borg had fed her, but the food certainly wasn't good.  Flynn cracked a smile at Rachel's last words.

"Good, that's what I was hoping to hear. It tells me you are not in the least bit queasy. I know you won't be going anyway, so I don't have to say wait here do I?" Rachel gave a big cheesy grin, stood up straight, then began walking towards exit. "I'd love to say it was going to be burgers and fries, but sadly no. Should be good anyway." She went smartly from Flynn's sight, heading for the Medical division kitchens, it was staffed 24 hours a day, so getting something suitable wasn't a problem.

Fifteen minutes later Rachel came back, carrying a large hospital tray, with two covered dishes on it, some fresh bread rolls, those little plastic packets of butter and honey and two hot cups of milky sweet tea. She placed the tray on a bed trolley, lowered it down to Flynn's height in her chair, pulled up another less comfortable one for herself and sat opposite. She lifted the lids to reveal what looked like grilled trout with fresh salad and mayo. "So, think you can manage?" Rachel was beaming, because whatever Flynn couldn't eat, she would.

Flynn shook her head.  "No, I'm actually not," she said, surprised herself.  "More hungry now."  She chuckled a bit at Rachel's next words.  "ah, nope I'm stuck here for a bit.  No worries."  Even though she could stand a bit she would never get far.  Flynn smiled as Rachel slipped out the door.  She was glad to have a nurse with a cheery attitude.  Made it easier to stay up built.

The food smelled good when Rachel came back in and Flynn's stomach gave a growl.  "Oops," she laughed.  "Ooh, and tea.  I haven't had a hot drink in well, I don't want to think how long."  It would only make her think about her time with the Borg and at the moment she didn't want to remember that as it would only flip her out again.  "Ooh, it looks wonderful.  thank you, Rachel."    Flynn picked up a fork to dig into her meal.

As they started to eat, Flynn would have been surprised at Rachel's delicate manner of eating, given her appearance, something people often took for granted. Yes she was a big girl, but you wouldn't find too much actual fat on her, most of it was just her sheer size, and quite solid. Yet she ate like a sparrow, taking small bites and eating slowly; which gave her time to talk. "The trout is originally from Arkansas, the locals didn't have any decent native stream fish worth eating. Now they can't get enough of it and have successfully filled every river from here north and south for a hundred miles." She said nonchalantly. "The potatoes in the salad came from Tasmania, same dealio, most of what we eat here has been introduced to the El Cavaleiros, they were never big on farming, so we've helped them no end there."

She ate a little more. "The Chef owes me, so you're welcome, and we have plenty of tea, that at least is local, a little stronger than our own isn't it?"

Flynn caught herself glancing up from time to time at Rachel.  She had a feeling that the other woman would continue to surprise her. Flynn ate her food daintily though as she didn't know how much her system could handle yet and getting sick certainly didn't sound inviting.  She hurt enough as it was.  She raised a brow.  "Really?  sounds like it has come from all over then."  That was actually quite interesting.  And it just proved that they were able to grow things on different planets.

She took a sip of her tea.  "It is, but I like it," she answered after taking a couple seconds to let the taste sink in.  It was quite good.

They chatted and ate and chatted some more, soon enough the small light meal was over. Rachel for her part was full at least, not even bothering to touch the bread rolls, as much as she would have liked to, she was done. "Okay Flynn, I think we can say you've passed phase 2. Your lunch is still inside you and not on the floor so that can only be a good thing. How about we try the stairs next, because once you get home, that will be your biggest challenge."

Flynn actually felt much better after eating.  Surviving on what the Borg had been giving her wasn't much at all.  And the food Rachel had brought had tasted wonderful.  Not to mention the company was great.  She really liked the nurse.  Flynn made a face at Rachel's suggestion.  "Ooh, that doesn't sound like fun, but I guess if it gets me up and about sooner," she said with a sigh. Stairs were not going to be easy with her leg.

It would seem that Rachel had found in her new friend Flynn, that one sisterly type of relationship she never quite had with her own. Apart from the fact that the next nearest to her of the 9, was some 4 years younger, she just didn't see their way of life. Sure she loved them and doted on them, but in her mind, she was more like a young aunt to them than a big sister. Seen from afar. "Oh, Flynn girl the fun has just began, and believe me, once you've mastered this, you'll conquer the world. It's quite easy in fact, once you get past the fear factor of falling. We'll take it slow."

Rachel stood, pushed her chair and the trolley away to give Flynn some room. "Now, lets see if you can get up on your own."

Flynn liked talking to Rachel.  She had never had a sister and she felt she could talk to Rachel about things that she would never tell Guy.  Unfortunately they had to meet by her getting injured.  Flynn pulled a face.  "Must say I'm not looking forward to trying this," she admitted.  She hadn't even thought about falling.  This certainly wouldn't be easy.

Flynn took a deep breath.  She gritted her teeth as she pushed herself up onto her good leg.  She quickly balanced herself on her crutches but was still a bit unsteady.  "Owe," she said, smiling slightly.

"You did well, honestly Flynn, I've had guys scream their heads off the first time they did that on their own. So chalk that one up to girl power!" Rachel grinned broadly which made her look like a rosy cheeked female version of the Michelin man. "I'll walk alongside you, at least until we get to the stair well, if at any time you want to rest, just say so Flynn. Now let me get the door, you can walk out...slowly and then turn right. You will get faster as the pain subsides, but for now, baby steps"

Flynn was a bit unsteady as her leg was killing her.  She refused to back down though, despite the tears in her eyes.  She managed a watery smile for Rachel.  "I can see why," she said through grit teeth.  This was not going to be an easy thing to do.  She took a couple shallow breaths, letting the pain subside a little before moving.  "Dang," she mumbled.  The Borg had really done a number on her.  Of course her whole body was one big bruise with her leg in what felt like pieces.  Flynn nodded slightly as she carefully made way to the door.  Baby steps was going to be all she was able to do.

Maybe, just maybe, Rachel was pushing it a little too hard. Plainly there was pain and anguish on Flynn's face, but there was determination as well, something that Rachel could easily identify with. After all, it was women who bore the pain of childbirth, it was women who also bore the pain when all the world seemed to be at war, men and boys dying, it was the mothers, sisters, daughters and lovers who bore that pain to. No, she would let Flynn go, Rachel was sure if the tables were turned, it would be the same for her.

The little journey along the hallway to the stair well, was slow and steady, at least Flynn had got the rhythm right now, that was pleasing. They reached the door, Rachel opened it to reveal your typical stair case you'd find in any commercial building. Concrete steps, handrails and a long way down and up. "So girly, up or down, your choice." Her grin was most wicked.

Flynn managed not to utter a word, but her face showed every emotion that she was feeling.  She knew that Rachel was doing this for her own good, but dang it, it wasn't easy.  Getting the hang of the crutches had been the easy part.  Dealing with the pain in her shattered leg was not so simple.  And there were a couple times she feared she would buckle in pain.

The young woman managed to stay on her feet though, knowing this wasn't anywhere near what she had dealt with with the Borg.  She didn't remember everything, but she remembered the torture she had gone through.  Relived it every time she closed her eyes.  Oh no, the pain in her leg was nothing like that.  Flynn looked at the stairs.  "Up, I guess.  Don't think I can handle down yet," she admitted.

A young airman walked past, he knew about Flynn's return and he was also aware that she had not long come out of the OR. He whistled in appreciation through his teeth, giving her the thumbs up. "See, you already have a fan." Rachel said. She looked up, one level would do for now, 25 steps and they were steep, it would tax someone who wasn't fit to begin with, but at least Flynn had that to her advantage, she was strong and fit to begin with.

She stood to one side and began the first instruction. "Put your crutches on the step first, then your good leg and foot to the step, using the your weight and the leverage of the crutches, you swing yourself up, pretty simple. I would say its easier than straight out walking Flynn, except you need to focus on balance." Rachel had been through herself, so she was an excellent choice for Flynn's management. "Now..."

Flynn looked up when she heard the whistle and actually smiled.  She hadn't felt like smiling recently, but just seeing that someone believed in her was helping her to relax.  Maybe she'd be able to get home and see Guy soon.  She also had a funny feeling that there was someone else that she was wanting to see, but for the life of her she couldn't remember who or why.

Flynn looked up at the steps.  "Oh sure.  Simple," she said with a roll of her eyes, but then smiled.  Rachel was being helpful.  And she was keeping Flynn going.  Flynn carefully tried to do what Rachel had said, but nearly lost her balance.  It took her a good three or four times before she finally managed a step.  After that it got a little easier as she figured out her balance, but it was still hard work and she was in tears by the time they to the top.

Once Flynn was at the top, Rachel by her side and now there was no going back; Rachel could see plainly just how tough the girl was, he assessment of that earlier was spot on. For no other reason, than she was pleased, she gave her a small hug, being mindful of her other injuries. "We'll rest a moment, that knocked a bit out of me to. I never realised just how steep these stairs were Flynn. So, I guess we could chat for a bit, that'll leave some of the stress. So, you know a little about me, where I'm from, what's your story?" She was nosey after all.

Flynn was grateful for the break as she didn't think she could go another step.  She was trying not to be a baby, but her body was aching and she didn't know if she had the strength to push on.  She carefully sank onto the floor, stretching out her injured leg.  She was caught off guard by Rachel's hug, but soon found herself smiling.  She really liked the other woman.  "Oh?  My history?  Well, let's see.  Grew up in Montana on a Quarter Horse ranch.  I have an older brother, Guy, who works at the SGC as well now."  Flynn tried to think of other things.  Things felt so fuzzy though, like she had cotton in her head.

Mindful of Flynn's discomfort, not to mention how difficult it would be for the woman to talk to her while she remained standing, Rachel took a place next to Flynn on the floor. It wasn't a new thing for her, all too often back home, when her legs simply wouldn't stand any longer after a long night out, she'd find herself sitting on the pavement with her friends, just talking. That was how most nights ended at least.

"Sounds a much better life than I had. But then I don't have any regrets either. The closest either of my brothers came to serving the country, was serving time for one thing or another: as for animals, we had a lot of gators and snakes around our place." Rachel told her matter of factly. "We'll rest for a bit more, then get you back to your room. Flynn girl, you've done great this morning. At this rate you'll be running laps around the base...by the way, you've just given me an idea. You know we have horses on the base don't you?"

Flynn was grateful to be sitting down, even if it was only temporary.  Her injured leg was killing her and she knew she wouldn't be able to move far anytime soon.  Although thinking about her family made her smile a bit.

She shuttered at the thought of snakes.  "Snakes is one animal I never really got to like," she admitted.  They still terrified her actually.  Flynn nodded a bit, but had to make a face.  "Not sure my leg would handle that yet," she grinned.  Flynn's eyes widened in delight. "No, I didn't know that."

It was nice to relax for a while, take the load off so to speak, Rachel appreciated it, and she was sure Flynn did as well. Most people with an ounce of intelligence, knew that Nurses spent 95% of their career on their feet and as such suffered some of the worst foot and leg problems of any profession. "There ain't too many here, and none that I know that are venomous. They do though have 3 species of lizard like creatures that are. If you see anything at all that looks reptilian and walks, keep clear and run, well I mean if you could run." Rachel said with a sly smile. "No, not today, or the next, but soon Flynn. At least tomorrow I can get your outside for some fresh air. God I need it to." Rachel herself hadn't been on the surface in over week and it began to show, dark circles under her eyes from lack of sunlight.

Flynn leaned back a little, being careful of all her injuries.  She couldn't remember everything that happened and had a feeling that she didn't want to.  She did remember how her leg got shattered though and wished she could forget that.  thankfully Rachel was doing a very good job of helping her there.  Flynn pulled a face.  'Got it.  Stay away from any reptiles.  That's easy to do.  I'm not a fan of them anyhow.'  She shook her head with a chuckle.  Apparently Rachel was going to keep her hopping.  Of course she was pretty sure that's what she needed.  Someone to give her a push.  "Could we see the horses when we're out?" she asked hopefully.  she missed being around them.

"Now that's the spirit, I was hoping you'd say that Flynn. That will be our first call after breakfast. I'll get one of the local girls to bring some clothes in for you tonight, it'll be a lot more comfortable for you as well. Since pants are a bit of a problem for you now, they have these wonderful divided riding skirts, usually leather, the sweetest blouses and jackets you ever saw. " Rachel was enthusiastic, more so, that when off duty she only wore the local clothing, as did most of the base personnel. "They have this passion for flowers, you will see a lot of embroidery, which goes against the image of their warrior persona. Would you believe, they start training the kids as young as 5, girls and boys. Everyone here, even the aged, can shoot a bow like you wouldn't believe."

Flynn actually smiled brightly.  Okay, having a shattered leg was not fun, but she had made a new friend and now it seemed like the following morning would be fun as well.  She would do her best to keep her spirits up.  "Ooh, they sound gorgeous.  And I thank you for everything you've done for me, Rachel," she smiled.  Flynn's eyes widened in shock.  "That young?  Wow!  I can't even imagine.'

"I know they are, you should see me all kitted out!" Rachel said happily. "Come on, lets get you up and back to bed Flynn, you've had a marvelous day, but like all good things, it has to end, and besides, you'll need your sleep." Rachel stood easily, despite her frame, she turned and offered both arms for Flynn to use as support. "I'll stay with you a while longer and then I'll have to hit the hay as well."

Flynn giggled a bit.  "Maybe I'll get a chance to see that sometime," she smiled.  Hopefully once she was actually back on her feet and feeling like herself.  Although she had a feeling she was going to be jumping at shadows for a very long time to come.  "Sure.  I am feeling pretty tired."  Maybe with being so worn out the dreams would stay away.  Flynn used Rachel's arms for support as she hopped on her good leg.  This wasn't going to be easy.  She got her crutches and managed not to lose her balance in the process.  "Time for bed then," she said, being as cheery as she could.

0600

Overnight whilst Flynn slept, she had been moved out of recovery into her own suite. The girl didn't even stir as her bed was wheeled from the main infirmary level, to the one above for the patients rooms. Even though it was still underground, there were windows in the rooms, essentially huge LED TV screens in every room. They had live feeds off over 35 cameras placed around the surrounding areas and the views could be changed at the owners discretion.  Yes it might have been an enormous drain on power, but there was power to spare here, having 12 naquada generators to run the base and a small hydro electric dam built not so long ago to serve a population a little over 2,000.

Flynn's door slid open silently, a young dark skinned Afro-American girl peeked in seeing Flynn sleeping soundly. She went immediately to the 'window' and drew back the curtains. She tippy toed over to Flynn's bedside and shook her gently.

"Wakey wakey princess, time to rise and shine!"

Flynn had fallen to sleep instantly once she had gotten back to her room.  And thankfully she had been so exhausted that the dreams had stayed away.  At least for the time being.  She knew she would have to talk to someone about what had happened.  She couldn't live like this, but right now, getting some sleep was all that mattered to her.

Flynn moaned softly as the young woman woke her up.  She opened her blue gray eyes part way and looked around, not recognizing anything.  "Where am I?" she asked softly, turning back to the nurse that had woke her.  She didn't recognize this nurse and wondered where Rachel was.  She knew she was still at the Alpha Site, so she was at least safe, but other then that she was lost.

"My own room?" Flynn asked in surprise.  that was not something she had expected.  She looked around though and noticed that it didn't feel nearly as much like a hospital.  "Sounds like you've really liked being here then."

Flynn smiled at the mention of Rachel.  She liked the other woman and hoped that she got a chance to see her again soon.  "She didn't have to do all that," she said, feeling bad that Rachel had stayed up so late.  She took the card and scanned down through it.  All the food looked good in her opinion.  Of course she realized she was quite hungry now.  "Ooh, that may not be so easy," she said, sitting up and being careful of her injured leg.

"Yeah, at least while you're here Flynn. From what I heard, that's likely to be at least a week or so." Adelia said quietly. There were one or two other patients nearby who hadn't been woken yet and it was protocol to be as quiet as possible in this area.

"Honey, where I come from, anywhere is better and this place..." She held her arms wide, as if indicating everywhere that encompassed the Alpha site. "....I couldn't think of a better place to be, despite the obvious dangers. Its home to me now, even got myself a nice hubby. Local guy." She did look happy and had those eyes that said a woman was in love. "You don't know Rache then, but you will. She takes her work very seriously; so before she gives me a kick in the rear, lets get you up. I was told you had to try on your own, so I'll bring your crutches over for you."

Adelia fetched the crutches were they stood, standing by the bathroom door, brought them back and stood in front of Flynn, holding them for her to grab. "You can tell me what you'd like, I'll write it down for you. I'd go easy to, the servings here tend to be rather large."

Flynn smiled slightly.  "Honestly, I haven' really gotten a chance to look around.  Just that first day I was here and well..." She trailed off as memories hit her and she leaned forward, shuttering a bit.  The memories were horrific.  First, the attack from the Borg, then whatever that monster had been that had nearly taken her arm off, and then being forced onto that ship.  Tears started in her eyes.  If she let herself think about it too much she would break down again.

She shook her head slightly.  "I don't know her real well," she whispered, her voice cracking.  She took a couple deep breaths to get her composure back before opening her eyes.   "I'll give it a try and just oatmeal, a corn muffin, and orange juice would be great."

Flynn took her crutches and carefully stood up.  She was wobbly, but she was slowly learning.  She did manage to keep all her weight off her injured leg which couldn't take any weight.  It would put her down on her knees quicker then a punch to the gut if she even thought about putting weight on her shattered leg.

"You will believe me Honey. Only this time around you'll have a much better opinion of the place." Adelia told Flynn as she steadied her. Adelia could well sympathise with her, she knew what it was like growing up in the Bronx and she was pretty sure the criminals she had to deal with in her young life were not all that much different to the Borg.

"You know, when I came her I knew no one at all. The mining camp was different. But the very first day I was here, Rachel made sure I wasn't alone." she said with a smile. "You'll forget in time Flynn, you will. Now lets get you in that shower, would you like to try on your own? I'll just wrap your leg for you and you can take your time while I get your breakfast."

Flynn managed a slight watery smile.  She did want to forget.  She knew it wouldn't be easy though.  "I do want to see the place," she said softly.  "And Rachel mentioned the horses."  She loved horses.

"Rachel sounds like quite a person.  I felt like instant family when I was with her," she said softly.  She had really enjoyed the nurse and getting to know her.  She already felt like a friend.  Flynn nodded a bit.  "Yeah, I can try," she answered.  She was still very sore, but she was pretty sure she could at least get herself cleaned up.

"Awww come on Hun, I know you went through a lot, but you're alive and you'll get to see your friends and family again." Adelia gave Flynn a warm hug. That was pretty much how it was around here, all the staff made sure the patients felt at home. It wasn't insincere either, they themselves were a long way from their own homes and families. "She's my big sister now and I mean that in more ways than her size. If there was anyone here who can't take the heat out of old Iron pants temper, its Rachel. She the mother hen to all of us. Now lets get you up, once you're undressed give me a holler and I'll come and wrap your leg okay?" She reached her small arms out for Flynn to take hold, small, but strong at least. Flynn sniffled slightly and rubbed her nose.  "I'm trying to remember that," she answered softly.  Adelia was right.  She was alive, so that was the main thing.  She could deal with the rest.  Although she still felt like she was missing pieces of her life.  She smiled through a sheen of tears.  "I could see that.  I liked Rachel a lot."  She had helped Flynn through quite a big the day before.  Or at least she was pretty sure it was the day before.  She was losing track of time.  She accepted Adelia's help up, being careful not to put added weight onto her injured leg.  "Okay, sounds good."  Flynn had always been a very modest person, but it appeared she wasn't going to be given that luxury right now.  Well, at least both of her nurses had been female.  that made her feel a bit better.

At last Flynn was standing, although still looking a little pale and drawn, she would get her colour back once she had something to eat and seen some real daylight and not just that on the screen. Adelia glanced at that, it certainly looked a glorious day to be outside. "Alright then girly, off you go. Flynn gave Adelia a smile once she was standing.  Her leg hurt as the blood rushed back down through it, but she was glad to at least be up.  And as Adelia had said, she was alive.  "Thank you.  I have a feeling it will take me a bit to get undressed," she admitted sheepishly.  She was still moving very slowly and things weren't very easy to do.  She carefully made her way toward the adjoining bathroom.

After having a decent nights sleep, even if she didn't get to be until after 1am, Rachel awoke feeling refreshed and ready to start her day. Once she was fully awake, she checked her computer, going through the medical files and updates. There was nothing new to be read, other than a few entries by the junior nurses and the night shift MO. Next, she went and showered, that was for her the most enjoyable part of her day, taking her time to make sure her hair was perfectly squeaky clean and conditioned. Finally after all that was done, Rachel headed for the kitchens and grabbed a quick breakfast of cereal and juice; then she ran, quite quickly to the Nurses station. Next stop Flynn's room

"Take your time sweetheart." Adelia said as she opened the door, to be greeted by Rachel. "You're up already Rachel?" She said, a little curious. "You don't start until 6....Oh..." She face palmed herself. "Sorry, long night. She's all yours then, I really have to hit the sack. "

Rachel laughed heartily at her assistant. The woman was good and had made the transition from cook to Nurses Aid quite comfortably. She went to the bathroom door and knocked. Rachel following her. "Flynn, Rachel is up. I'll leave you in her hands now and see to your breakfast before I go off shift. "

"Anything new Adelia?" Rachel asked.

"No, she's doing well. I'll see you tonight then."

"Tomorrow night. Its your off day today or have you forgotten?"

"Right. Yes I did. Tomorrow then. Flynn! I'll see you later, take care." Then she was gone.

Rachel tapped lightly on the bathroom door. "Flynn, its Rache', how you doing kiddo?"

Flynn was struggling a bit with her clothing.  It certainly wasn't easy as she felt abused everywhere and trying not to knock her injured leg was not easy at all.  Of course if she hit her leg the pain would let her know.  She heard voices in her bedroom but didn't listen closely until she heard the knock at the bathroom.

"Oh.  Okay!" she called back cheerily.  She had liked both nurses so far.  "See you later, Adelia!"

Flynn turned her head when Rachel tapped at her door next.  She rolled her eyes with a half laugh half snort.  "Oh just peachy if you count not being able to get your pants off," she giggled.  Okay, it wasn't funny, but she would cry if she didn't laugh.

It was inevitable of course, Rachel knew exactly the position Flynn was in, having been there herself not too long ago it would seem. She opened the door cautiously, taking a quick look behind her before she did, making sure there were no make orderlies around. Satisfying herself all was clear, she went straight in and tisked. "Good thing they're only jammies isn't it Flynn?" She had at least only had an elastic waist band to contend with. Rachel bent to help, slid Flynn's pants down, blushing a little as she did so, because, well simply most women didn't wear underwear beneath their pyjamas; Rachel should be a veteran at this, but it was always the same, you felt a touch of embarrassment for your patient.

She gathered up the cling film and wrapped Flynn's cast and leg up smartly, making sure Flynn had no time to even think of being uncomfortable. "I'm sure you can take the top of girl, you don't need me for that. I'll be right outside if you need me, standing guard of course."

Okay, Flynn had never had an injury this bad before, so she was not at all used to having to work around a cast.  Although it appeared now she wasn't going to get a choice.  She looked over when the door creaked open and smiled at Rachel.  The young woman didn't even think about what she was wearing underneath as Rachel helped her with the pants.  "Ugg!  I miss my jeans but there is no way I could get those off," she said with a roll of her eyes.  So much for being able to do much riding either.

"Thanks for the help, Rachel," she said as the nurse slipped out.  Flynn then finished getting undressed so that she could get cleaned up.  This would be one of the longest showers she had ever taken as it would take a while to get everything clean and work around her injuries.

"Darlin, you'd have more trouble getting them on than off I'm afraid." Rachel chuckled from behind the door. This was going to be an exciting time for Flynn; not only will she see the beauty of a new world, but she may discover some things about herself as well. Namely just how tough she really is. "Apart from being my job, its a pleasure doing it for you. I'm going to lay out your clothes, give me a yell when you need me Honey."

Rachel went to the chair and began gathering up those lovely garments her local friends provided for Flynn, she was something of a celebrity now, not many came back from the Borg's captivity. She laid the divided riding dress out, the top was actually a separate piece, but when worn it all looked like one garment. "Your clothes look divine by the way. They're here ready for you when you're done Flynn."

Flynn hadn't thought about that, but Rachel was right.  "Alright, no jeans for a while then," she grinned.  Although she would miss them.  But there was no sense in making things any harder on herself then they were already going to be.  And right now she was just looking forward to being able to get some fresh air.  Maybe it would help her clear her mind and help with the nightmares.  "Alright, thanks again, Rachel."

Flynn carefully started to clean herself up.  It was certainly harder and more tedious then normal, but the water felt wonderful on her bruised body.  "Really?  I can't wait to see them."  She hadn't gotten a chance to really see much of the Alpha Site, so she didn't know any of the locals.

There were a few more things to do before Flynn's breakfast would arrive and Rachel busied herself doing those little chores. She stripped and made the bed, all the while chatting as she did so. "Flynn, unless you want to have jeans with one leg ripped up the side to accommodate your cast, I'd say no." She laughed at her own little piece of humour. "That being said, you will love these clothes, at least you'll have some freedom of movement and besides, they are a gift, you will be able to take them with you when you leave. Which reminds me, after we see the horses, would you like to go shopping? We've set up a system, where us Earthlings can use our credit cards with the locals."

Flynn sighed happily as she finished her shower. The water had felt wonderful.  She reached for the towel carefully dried herself.  "Ooh I wouldn't like that.  Good way to ruin a pair of jeans."  Flynn carefully got the crutches under her arms and made her way out to her room.  "Oh they're beautiful!" She exclaimed when she saw the clothes Rachel had laid out.  "Shopping?  Really?  That sounds awesome!"

"Oh my!" Rachel said in exclamation, kicking the door shut with her foot, it was quicker than reaching for it. At least, or by accident perhaps, Flynn had lost a little of her inhibitions; although Rachel didn't expect the woman to come out stark naked, a towel draped around her at least.

One thing for certain, it would be a lot quicker getting her dressed. "You had better sit down Flynn, I'll get the underwear for you, won't be a moment." She left to allow Flynn to reflect for a moment on her little snafu.

Rachel was back in a few seconds, she had the petticoats and long pantaloons draped over a chair just outside. Shoes would be a problem, though she did bring one light leather sandal for the right foot; the left would have to have the old standard 'cast' booty. "Now, you ready to look like a Princess? By the time we're done, and hitting the shops, the locals will be offering their wares to you for free." That was added with a rather broad smile.

Flynn's face reddened when Rachel kicked the door shut.  She had tried to wrap the towel securely around herself. but with using the crutches the towel had worked its way loose and she had lost it just as she stepped out of the bathroom.  Sheesh, what a mess she was.

She sat on the bed as Rachel had suggested, still feeling completely embarrassed.  She had never walked around in the nude and she hadn't planned on starting now.  It had just sort of happened.  She would have to find a better way to secure the towel.

She gave Rachel a sheepish smile.  "Not sure you can turn this one into a Princess.  No princess walks around stark naked.  Sorry," she whispered.  She was sure she had embarrassed Rachel as well.  Flynn raised a dainty brow.  "Is that a good thing?" she asked curiously, not knowing the local customs.

The bloom on Flynn's cheeks was something to see. If she stood on Main and Vine in Rachel's little backwater home town every car would stop, thinking she was a red light. A hearty laugh broke from Rachel's throat, not only at the expense of Flynn's embarrassment, but also because it was simply funny to see woman turn red in front of another; it wasn't as if Rachel herself hadn't been caught out in her life and more than once. But that was another story.

"You might have noticed when you were on your little foray with Jordan and the Cavaleiros, that most of the warriors were women. There are male warriors of course Flynn; but every time the Borg had attacked them over the years, they always targeted the men and boys. Suffice to say over the last few generations, whether by design or not, more females are born than males." She took a deep breath as she started unwrapping the cling film from Flynn's leg. "I would say, about 95% of the merchants and shopkeepers here are male. Does that answer it for you?" One of those merchants, a big burly red headed man, had stolen Rachel's heart, they are going to marry next Spring.

"This Princess apparently does." She said grinning when she gathered up the white bloomers and began to slip them over Flynn's legs. There was a light cotton camisole to go on next, unfortunately for now, the base store was closed, so Flynn would be going braless for now; not that that should be an issue, the local women at best wore a simple wrap if needed under their outer garments. "Okay arms up!"

Flynn knew she shouldn't be embarrassed as it was only Rachel, but she still felt awkward.  She wasn't normally one to parade around in her birthday suit.  Oh, what would her brother think if he ever found out?  Brother?  That's right.  She had a brother.  But where was he now?  She had no recollection of the last time she had seen him.  She tried to push that worry to the back of her mind and concentrate on what Rachel was saying.

She shook her head.  "Actually, I haven't seen any of them," she admitted.  Her and Maria had taken off on their own with just a small guard.  Her eyes widened in shock.  "Oh, that makes sense then," she said softly.  No wonder the women were the warriors.  If the men kept being targeted you wouldn't want to lose all your males.  She grinned a bit.  "Oh, okay, makes sense now," she said softly, feeling slightly embarrassed.  Of course Flynn had never been one to consider herself pretty.  Just average in her mind.

Flynn smiled a bit, loving how Rachel could make her smile so easily.  She raised her arms like she was instructed to.  Her arms were about the only part of her body that didn't hurt.  Not to mention she hated to look down as her whole body was a bruise.

The camisole was a perfect fit, luckily Rachel was a fairly good judge of size and it was on her insistence the locals made larger sizes to accommodate the women from Earth. The Cavaleiros, tended to be quite lean, even the old grandmothers. The material, while soft, was of an elastic knit, unique to them, something Earth had only achieved with synthetics, but this was derived from a local plant, generally considered a weed, so it did have its uses. Flynn was one of those beautiful larger women and as such was amply endowed, the garment, with the added bustier of the dress top, would hold her in place comfortably. "So far so good, you look stunning Flynn, even if its only underwear."

Next came the bustier top, it was fastened at the back with ties, then finally the divided dress itself, a little complex to put on, but with a little struggle between the two of them, finally Flynn was ready to take on her new world. Lastly, Rachel fitted the one sandal like shoe on Flynn's right foot, and the cast cover booty on the left; not a glamorous match, but no one would notice at all. "You didn't?" She asked in query about the Cavaleiros. "You missed a sight then, soon to be rectified. So, you breakfast will be ready, do you want to eat here or in the mess hall?" That was the better option, being confined to your room can be stifling.

<Flynn's room 23>

Flynn watched as Rachel got everything together.  She had to smile when she realized that Rachel had gotten her size perfectly.  She helped where she could as Rachel helped her get dressed.  It was certainly awkward, but they were getting it figured out.  Flynn might as well get used to it as she would probably be in a cast for a while.  The young woman laughed softly.  "As long as I don't just go out in my underwear," she smiled.  That would be a sight.

The rest of the outfit though wasn't nearly as easy to get on.  Somehow though the two of them finally managed it and Flynn had to admit, she felt quite pretty.  Flynn shook her head.  "Maria and I heard a disturbance.  The Borg came before I ever saw them.'  She shuttered at the memory.  It was a memory she would rather forget.  Why was it she could remember that, but she felt like there were other things that she was forgetting?  "Mess hall would be nice.  I'd like to get up and out," she admitted.

"Flynn, Honey I hope you know how to swat flies, because darlin, you look the most glorious creature that has ever walked this planet and I mean it." Rachel was a fine judge, well most of her former judging back home was of live stock. But she certainly knew pretty when she saw it. "I don't think anyone would notice around here, you will see men and women both, stripped to the waist, with only what we call a singlet on, doing their chores in high summer. But just the same, I agree." She gave her new friend the crutches and propped them under her arms. In Rachel's mind, she knew that Flynn was suffering mentally and she was determined to get her out of it.

"We'll have a fine hearty breakfast and then hit the stables first. You, are my duty today, so we have until sunset to do some sight seeing....oh and by the way, you'll have a base credit card issued to you so you can shop. They'll deduct it from your own accounts back home when we reconnect with the SGC again."

Flynn's eyes widened slightly before flushing.  She gave Rachel an almost shy smile.  "Thank you.  Haven't felt pretty or even human for a bit now,' she admitted.  It was nice to be clean and with friends again.  Even if she did have to wear this darn cast for who knew how long.  Flynn was surprised by Rachel's next words.  "Oh, so I woulda fit right in," she laughed softly.  Still not something she wanted to try though.  She felt better being fully dressed.  Not nearly as exposed and vulnerable.  She carefully situated the crutches under her arms, trying not to think about what the Borg had done by invading her mind.

"Oh, that sounds wonderful.  I'm starved."  She carefully made her way out with Rachel.  "Really?  Oh good.  I like being with you."  Rachel seemed to know just what to say.  She raised a dainty brow.  "Really?  Well, what girl would turn down shopping?" she smiled.

~Worshipday~

It had been two days now since the girls had spent a rather exciting day in town. The visit to the markets was a girls shopping dream, to the extent, the small Sulky they had travelled in, couldn't cope with the load and it took a quick call to the base quartermaster to arrange a Humvee to act as transport. Flynn gained herself a wardrobe of local clothes, dresses, leather pants and tops (she would have to wait to wear the pants) bags, hats and other wonderful things. Rachel did quite well also, adding to her now growing local wares.

They took in the food, both for lunch and dinner, taking note of the similarities to some Earth cuisines. Spices like India, curried dishes much like Thailand and Indonesia and there were pastries that any French chef would be proud of. But the moment that drew shock and awe to Flynn, was the 'cage wrestling'. Not at all like she imagined. Here, it was somewhat different. Men and women both, locked in a cage (that part was the same), stripped to the waist and belting the hell out of one another with wet bags of flour. The winner determined by who was covered the least.

The intervening days were spent with more rehab for Flynn, both mental and physical. The base psychiatrist, a lovely man in his middle thirties with a thick mid western drawl; Flynn had spent almost the entire afternoon of the second day and several hours yesterday. She had her cast changed, merely as procedure so her wound could be examined; that was going well with the special silicone covering over it.

Finally it was to the base, Sunday and it was determined by General Chalmers that all personnel not required for duty, to get out and enjoy themselves. That was exactly what was planned.

**************

<Flynn's Room 23>

Rachel was up early, she had to. Getting into her Sunday best took time and she used that time well. She chose a lovely summer dress, printed with flowers but essentially a lemon colour. Beneath she wore two hooped petticoats and on her feet, simple soft leather black shoes. The dress was low cut, but not enough to send the old 'Iron Maiden' into a fit.

Quietly, she opened Flynn's door. The poor girl was still asleep soundly, but at least she slept now with a smile on her face. Rachel crept to her side, her hand giving Flynn a gentle shake. "Wakey wakey sleepy head."

Flynn had enjoyed every minute of her time with Rachel at Alpha Site.  There had been so many new things to experience and things that seemed close to home as well.  It made her miss home though.  Although she wasn't ready to leave her new friends.  The base psychiatrist had been a lot nicer then she had ever thought and she didn't have as many nightmares.  Although they still came at odd times and she found herself wanting to hide every once in while.   She hoped that her whole life wasn't like this.

<Flynn's Room 23>

Flynn was snuggled under her blankets when Rachel came in.  Her leg was actually letting her sleep a bit although if she wasn't careful she'd roll wrong and end up in a lot of pain.  She shifted under Rachel's gentle touch.  "Hmm?" she mumbled, opening her eyes partway.  She had finally stopped jumping every time someone touched her.

"It's 0700, I let you sleep in, you've had a huge two days me girl haven't you?" Rachel said softly, not wanting to startle Flynn. But then, once that was done, she threw back the covers, then grabbed her friends arms as if to haul her out bodily.

"We've Church at 9, but breakfast before that. So my question is, what are you going to wear?" She asked, looking at the hue pile of gorgeous clothes Flynn had bought. "Or are you just going to lay there all morning like Lady Muck?" She giggled, did a quick turn around so Flynn could see Rachel's outift. "Like it?"

"Mmm, just a bit," she mumbled, still waking up.  Normally Flynn was up bright and early.  She loved mornings, but since her ordeal with the Borg her system had been all off.  She shivered a bit though as Rachel caught her covers and pulled them back.

"That's a lot," she said, finally waking up a bit.  Her eyes widened when she saw Rachel's dress.  "Oh, Rach, you look lovely!" she exclaimed, clapping her hands.  She looked at her own clothes, not sure what to wear.  "Ooh, I don't even know where to start."

"Oooh no you don't!" Rachel said like the old school mistress. She grabbed Flynn's covers, all of them, pulling them aside and off the bed, leaving the poor girl there as she was in her pyjamas. Rachel then grabbed the aircon remote and turned it down as low as she could. Within moments, the room was like a refrigerator. "A little incentive for ya girlie. Now UP!" She gently took hold of her arms and lifted her, being mindful of course not to crush her dress. "And thank you by the way...that one." Her eyes took in that beautiful emeral dress Flynn had bought in the last few minutes of the shopping the other day, if it were smaller, Rachel herself would have had it. "You will look divine, even more so at the chapel."

Flynn growled lowly when Rachel snagged her covers and pulled them off completely.  She started to shiver as Rachel also made her room feel like the artic.  "Ooh, so cold," she mumbled, sitting up.  Flynn continued to shiver as Rachel helped her up and pointed out one of the dresses she had bought as a last minute impulse.  Her eyes lit up though. "I do like that dress a lot," she agreed, liking that it would cover the cast and injuries she had on her arms.  For her face she would just have to rely on makeup and Rachel seemed a pro at that.

<Flynn's room 23>

With Flynn, you had to be careful. More than once she had taken a swing at Rachel when she was awoken, a little like a bear with a sore head really. But not today at least, because apart from the fact that Rachel had her firmly locked in her arms, Flynn did appear to be a little more pliant than she had been; that could only be a good thing, the shrink must be getting through to her,

Easing her slowly into a sitting up position, then standing back a little, Rachel had to smile. Flynn's face was flushed with a lovely pink hue, which told the base Senior Nurse her patient was doing well. "You'll look a Queen for the day. Which, I might add, you'll be gobsmacked when you see the 'Boss'. Quite a different lady at Chapel I must say."

She went to Flynn's collection of clothing, grabbed an armful of undergarments, laying them at Flynn's side. This was a standard routine for them now. At least she had something decent to wear, even if the standard service sports bra wasn't quite as glamorous as the local bodice. That would come for another day and another dress. "We'll get your underwear on, a quick bird bath and I'll help you finish dressing. We can skip breakfast, since its Sunday, there is a spread on in the chapel after early service. Not much by our cafe fare Flynn, its rather frugal, but that's how Chalmers likes it for the Sabbath."

<Flynn's Room 23>

Flynn had been too exhausted to come up swinging.  Although it had taken a couple minutes for her heart to settle back down to normal.  She hated waking up like that.  Every little touch made her think that they were going to get her again.  She was not going back.  She would rather die.

Flynn helped as much as she could as Rachel pulled her to a sitting position.  She was feeling a bit better physically.  Although nightmares still plagued her and she felt like there was something that she was forgetting.  Like pieces of her past weren't there anymore.  She couldn't quite explain it though.  She giggled softly.  "Must admit, I've never worn such lovely clothing."  Flynn looked up at Rachel in surprise.  "Really?  Well I look forward to seeing this then."

She helped Rachel where she could with getting dressed.  She still felt like a little kid as she couldn't dress herself, but she also knew that without Rachel's help she would be sitting there in her pajamas for quite a while.  "That's fine," she assured her friend.  "I don't need a lot.  And I'm not real picky."  It would be fun no matter what anyhow.  Although she had forgotten about telling Kaylan that she would join him.

<Flynn's room 23>

"Its actually not that bad Flynn, a sort of local mueslii, some fruit compote and juice. No eggs, no bacon though." Well she had to mention that bit, at least so her friend didn't think she would starve. Rachel pulled the aircon remote out of her pocket and reset the temperature to its comfy 22 degrees C, then began what often turned into raucus laughter these last two days of dressing Flynn. For now, she had what she needed to keep her modesty, that being a lovely pair of granny undies and her khaki sports bra. Next came the lacey pantaloons and then the petticoats, two of them, next the corset.

"You hate this don't you...breathe in me dear!" Rachel said as she began tob dreaw the ties; it had to be tight, here on this world it truly was all about an hour glass. Finally, a cream lace edged camisole before the dress and this was where the laughter came in. From experience, the two of them had worked out, that once Rachel had the garment over Flynn's head, she would be stood up, the two of them turned around, so that Rachel could slip top and bottom sections into place.

The first time around, two days ago, they were in a heap on the bed as Flynn lost her balance, with the heavier Rachel on top of her as the landed on the bed. But with this new method, if they did fall, it would be Flynn who would be safest, at least that was the theory. "You ready" She asked. "Shall we count again?" Her grin was so infectious, just seeing it would break you up.

<Flynn's Room 23>

Flynn cocked her to the side.  "Well, that doesn't sound bad at all."  She didn't have to have meat for breakfast.  Actually she was one that liked French toast and oatmeal, so she would be fine.  she was glad that Rachel had warned her though.  Flynn breathed a sigh of relief as Rachel turned the temperature back up.  It had certainly been cold and Flynn hadn't had very much clothing on.

She rolled her eyes.  'well, it certainly isn't easy," she agreed with a laugh.  She was glad that it was Rachel helping her though.  The two seemed to finally be able to work as a team to get getting dressed done.  Although the tightness of the dress was a bit hard on her bruised ribs.  She had learned not to complain though.  she was alive and was slowly getting back to normal.  Although the nightmares were something she could live without.  "Way too many layers," she laughed as Rachel helped her with another.  She couldn't imagine all these layers every day.

Flynn nodded her head.  "Yep.  Let's try this," she grinned, wondering if they would manage to stay up this time.  Flynn managed to balance on her good leg as Rachel helped her.  Although she did sway and nearly went down a couple of times.  She felt like a flamingo and decided it wasn't something she wanted to get used to.

<Flynn's Room 23>

To her amazement, they didn't fall down this time. Wobbled a little yes, but the 2 of them did stay upright, which in itself was a little disappointing because it had been such a giggle. In the end, it worked out fine, Flynn was radiant as expected and despite her misgivings, the corset was actually good for her ribs they would heal much faster now. "Nope, I rather enjoy a little fasting now and then, I mean look at me, not exactly a cat walk model am I?" Rachel had to get that in, she'd been giving Flynn, who wasn't tiny either some curry lately as her weight, which was natural had dropped since she came back. A now very svelte 125lbs and she looked glorious, limp, crutches and all.

The last part was a single soft shoe, similiar to the one's Rachel wore and of course, Flynn's cast bootee, that done she was ready to greet the world again. "I often wonder how women in the 17th and 18th centuries coped, wearing this type of clothing from sun up to sun down. I think despite what we read about the genteel society, they were tough." She told her. "Oh by the way, I popped in late last night to see how you were....who's Fred?" She asked, since Flynn had been mumbling in her sleep.

<Flynn's room 23>

Flynn couldn't believe they had managed not to fall.  Although it had cut out the giggles that had started last time they had both taken a tumble.  Apparently they were getting better at this though.  And she was shocked that the corset didn't hurt her ribs.  She had thought for sure that it would, but she actually felt pretty good.  Flynn shook her head.  "Rachel," she scolded playfully.  "Not all of us are models.  I'm far from it."  She liked Rachel just the way she was.  It had always annoyed her when girls only cared about their weight and looks.

Flynn couldn't wait until she was able to wear shoes again.  She missed her cowboy boots.  Although the soft shoe she was wearing now was nice.  She rolled her eyes.  "Oh, I don't think I would like that at all.  It's fun to dress up, but I wouldn't want to do this all the time."  She gave those women credit for doing it.  Flynn pulled a face at the name.  She recognized it, but she didn't know why.  "I'm not sure," she admitted, playing with the locket that was always around her neck.  Not that she could remember where she got it from.  "I feel like I should know him, but I don't know why or how," she said softly, hating that she couldn't remember everything.

<Flynn's Room 23>

"Oh yeah, don't get me started on that. You know I've got all those skinny sisters who seem to enjoy digging it in to the BIG sista!" Rachel roared with laughter. To her, those sisters of hers, as much as she loved them, were nothing but tarts who saw nothing in walking around town, trying to attract every stud in a truck, with clothes that boredered on indecency. Not to mention the youngest, Tyler, who at only 15 was already expecting a child, last she heard and that was 6 months ago.

It was time to go, and both of them looked at pretty as a picture. Not that mattered too much on the base with women outnumbering the men 2 to 1, but hey, who was looking. "Hmmm, you know what? Annie Horowitz is not only a great shrink, she's a doll to boot. What say after chapel and before we head off to see Kaylan, we drop by her office for a visit. Being Jewish, she'll be having a day off anyway."

<Flynn's Room 23>

Flynn tried not to giggle.  "Oh, I remember those kinds of girls in school.  Always drove me crazy.  They were usually the ditsiest as well."  she shook her head.  Those had been some interesting times.  Although thankfully Guy had never seemed phased by the looks and she had never taken much stock in her own looks either.

Flynn did feel very pretty in her dress though.  First time she had really felt anything since the ordeal.  "Alright.  I don't mind stopping in to say hi," Flynn agreed.  Her face reddened. " Oh, that's right!  I completely forgot about Kaylan."

"Tarts mostly Flynn." Rachel snorted with a deep throaty laugh.

Time was moving on though, it was always like that around the Alpha site. One moment it was just after 7am and as soon as you had your back turned it was almost 8. The big nurse heaved a sigh, shaking her head just a little. "I didn't, seeing as how I have a date as well coincidently Flynn. But yes, I think a little one on one for you and Annie would do you the world of good. Come on, lets not keep the chaplain waiting oh.....that's right, you don't know do you? Our boss does double shifts, she's the base chaplain as well."

Flynn bit back a giggle.  "Yes, I have to agree," she grinned.

Flynn was shocked to see how much time had gone by.  Of course getting her dressed now was a real ordeal and took a while.  that was something she would have to get used to.  Flynn raised a brow as she reached for her crutches.  "Oh, you do, do you?" she asked.  "With who?"  Yes, she was curious.  Rachel had never mentioned anyone.  Flynn was shocked by the next words though.  "She is?  Wow, she's an amazing woman.  Welp, I'm ready when you are."

Both Flynn and Rachel had bunkered down in the cafeteria for the duration of the raid, it was quiet, a little scary to with all the kids from town there, faces showing fear and many of them crying while the parents took care of their duties in the village and surrounding areas. But soon enough the all clear was given and not too long after that, Rachel had been called to the infirmary to help with a wounded pilot.

The orderlies wheeled the young Asian man in, Rachel was at his side the moment they appeared around the corner of her domain, she was briefed by the older of the two men as they walked; but Rachel could see very clearly the man was in strife. "This is bad, he is going to need a lot of TLC." She thought, her hand now on the side of the gurney.

Her actions brought the the orderlies to a standstill, she bent to the young man. "Can you hear me? My name is Rachel McAdams, senior trauma nurse here."

<<Triage>>

Takeda was hanging on with his life in between conscious and unconscious. During that time he did pray to his goddess Amaterasu to deliver him. She was the Goddess of the Sun and the Heavens. He was a devout believer and was raised in the household to honor all Gods and Goddess. In his bag, he even had a deity stone but he couldn't remember what it was for now.

Still half conscious, Takeda was wheeled into the medic ward and assessed by a nurse he never saw before. While being transported around the base, he had recognized it himself. Alpha Site was his home for the ten years of his life. Almost fifteen. He and Aria joined the SGC earlier as 2000 because they were both combatants and RAN for close quarters combat.  Takeda was proud of her.

"Can you hear me? My name is Rachel McAdams, senior trauma nurse here."

The feminine voice of the nurse chipped in as Takeda moaned a bit looking at her. He attempted to respond through his pain, "Umm, I can hear you, kankoshi-san..."

Since he's never met her before, he called her nurse in his polite way in his native language in Japanese the way his family taught him to do so. Australian or not, it was important to respect all elders no matter of the situation.

"Japanese?" Rachel thought, but his left shoulder patch was the Australian flag, the name patch, partially burnt on his chest read 'Tak*da' she could read into that. Rachel didn't speak the language at all, but she knew phonetics well enough to fill in the missing vowel, which would be 'E'. There was non one on the Alpha site by that name, where did this man come from? It didn't matter, right now he was in dire straights.

"You are badly injured....Commander." She did at least recognise the rank on his shoulder, a Lieutenant Commander of the Navy, the Australian Navy as well. That was odd to. "I'm going to give you something for the pain and assess you as quickly as I can. The doctor will be here soon." She had to reassure him and hopefully they could put him back together.

"Bed three please boys." She said to her orderlies and silently they followed her orders, wheeling the gurney into the appropriate place. Once there a slide sheet was slipped under Takeda, so that he could be moved to the bed. "I'm sorry if this hurts." She said. "On three, one two...three." As quick as that without fuss, he was slid over to a more comfortable place. Rachel then went to the ward EM trolley, gathered up an IV and inserted it into Takeda's left forearm. She attached an IV line to an electrolyte and saline bag, then inserted a shunt for the morphine, twenty milligrams to start with.

"You should feel a little more comfortable in a few moments, but please, try and relax if you can."

Takeda grunted and nodded as he responded to her confusion, "I may have grown on Australian soil, but I was taught and raised to be polite."

He grunted in pain again as she and her nurses took him to another but more comfortable place in the medic ward. He nodded at her and responded again politely to the nurse, "Thank you, kankoshi-san."

The 6,4 feet tall, blond physician assistant entered the med bay with at a small jog, coming over to Rachel, “I’m so sorry for the delay, I came as soon as I could. Have you got Gordon around? I couldn’t find him anywhere and I swear I’m gonna kill him if he’s gone on one of his walkabouts again without letting the rest of us know that he’s left the perimeter!”
The worried, almost on the edge of upset look seemed a bit misplaced in the young mans face, a face that had more resemblance with a laid-back surfer from southern California, than a PA that had served by the SGC for almost a decade by now. Then again, he did like to spend a lot of time on the beach doing just that riding the waves.
He shot a fast look the man on the gurney, took a deep breath to calm down, then looked back at Rachel, “What’s up?”

"Jimbo!" Rachel exclaimed with a degree of excitement. Her favorite Physician's Assistant just made her day all that much better, she couldn't help but to look him up and down. "I thought you'd be catching some breaks off the point by now... but we can talk the small talk later." She picked up the first response teams clipboard hanging from the side of the gurney. Reading clearly she began. "Minor contusions to about thirty percent of his upper torso and arms. Proximity burns and a concussion to the left temple. Six fractured ribs on first assessment." That was a lot, the poor guy had been through the grinder that's for sure. "I've started an IV with fluids, and twenty CC's of morphine." Lastly she added. "I haven't seen him since last night, he didn't even turn up for the General's Sunday service." To her that was bordering on blasphemy and he should be shot at dawn.

Takeda cringed a bit from the pain. He was still suffering from several broke ribs and every time he tried to breath, he would pierce something and it would give him pain. Looking around in the dimmed setting, he wondered when they will come soon to take care of him. They were taking a while, but then had to figure that there were probably other patients like him. He groaned silently closing his eyes.

He lost everything. The moment his Aria died, he lost everything. She was so strong, so mighty that even he could barely keep up. When they sparred, they would finish in a tie. Even in bed when they slept together they would care for each other. They were dating and even there were rules about fraternization between officers but they didn't care. As long as they could keep it professional while on duty with her being his XO, off duty they can do whatever they want together. It would raise eyebrows, but the people saw nothing of it. Both Aria and Takeda kept it quiet on the down low.

Keeping his eyes shut, he let the morphine take him away into his daydream where he kept his thoughts of Aria and the rest of his team close by.

Jim slipped a sigh as the Rachel gave him a run down of the injuries, then silently ascertained, taking the absence from mass far more lightly than the nurse did, “Yeah, couldn’t see him there either - I guess that means we’re on our own then.”
He looked at the report, nodded and crossed the room to the bed their newcomer occupied, carefully placing a hand on his right knee as he stood by the side of the bed, speaking in a quiet voice.
“Hey there. You awake?” 20 cc’s of Morphine sounded like a lot, so he hoped the man on the bed was still responsive.

"Drunk, sleeping it off I think. Or he's just so damned old he can't move his posterior anymore." She did like the old guy, but in her view he was way past his use by date and shouldn't even be out here. He would be better off in an advisory role if anything. "At least this one is alive, I'll go and get the scanner so we can get a background check on him." A quick turn around to the nearby trolley, Rachel grabbed the handheld personal subcutaneous transmitter scanner. With that in hand, she returned to the patient and began the scan. After several frustrating moments, she stared at him and then Jim, her eyes wide.

"Ah...Jim. He has a transmitter, but its not registering and this thing is up to date as of early last night." This was confusing. She bent close to him. "Who are you?" It was almost a whisper.

He frowned and looked at the scanner Rachel held out for him, “That’s odd. Never heard of a chip acting up like that before. Maybe re-entry was tougher than we thought?”

"Who are you?"

Takeda blinked several times at both of them. They should know him. At least according to him but he did see a few differences. He wasn't sure if it was the morphine driving him crazy but the Alpha Site should be at least destroyed. The entire medic wing was bombed by Lucian Alliance terrorists. They killed themselves by killing other staffs of the site including the medical staff. Suicidal. The LA insurgents can do anything they set their minds to.

Or maybe it was just the morphine effect.

Takeda cleared his throat and took his time as he re-introduced himself, "Lieutenant Commander Takeda Akira, designated PX8-K93 and assigned to the Alpha Site. The letterings and numbers on my designated rank share the same name as the planet I was assigned to. My call sign is Ryuu which means Dragon in my native language. I was born on Hokkaido, Japan but moved to Melbourne, Australia when I was five years old. I was one of the few officers honored to be sent here in the defense of our home planet against the Lucian Alliance incursion since they destroyed the Beta and Gamma Site. The Alpha Site was the last line of our defense. I was assigned to the ASG or the Alpha Stargate team 13 of the Roman Numerical as it is on my rank. X I I I. My team consisted of myself and my team members who served with honor and dignity. Lieutenant Commander Aria "Bruiser" Isreal, and First Lieutenants Akela "Boomer" Valerii and Jonathan "Hope" Agathon. All of my team members are now deceased and I am the only one left alive."

He hope he cleared the mess possibly. It was entirely impossible for him to be in an alternate universe. Or maybe at least somewhat possible. It can't be, but he wasn't the one to put down such superstitions. Or maybe was possible. He let out a sigh closing his eyes for a bit to let them process his introduction. Maybe it will clear up and Takeda was right. He was back home and the Alpha Site never got destroyed.

At least, that is a possibility...no matter how remote it was. Or maybe it was wishful thinking...

"Whoa! Is this guy for real?" That was the thought that came to Rachel as she listened intently to his brief history. She knew of Aria Isael for sure and that woman as far as she knew was attached to the Dreadnought; the other names she thought she had vaguely heard of, but certainly not around the Alpha Site. Although there was a new guy who had drafted in earlier today, she didn't know his name at this point though. "Jim, I'll be back in a little while, I'm just going to do some checking. Won't be long." Rachel indeed was going to check on a few things, everything was wrong with this man including his assigned team number designation and the gate address he gave. Either he is a Goa'uld plant or somehow this poor man had inadvertently arrived here from an alternate universe. It wouldn't be the first time.

Jim frowned as he listened to the man’s story, ‘Wrong designation of planet. I know every single pilot assigned here for the last two months, and you’re not one of them… None of them are!’
He nodded at Rachel, “Okay, you do that, just hurry up, will you?” then turned back to Akira.
“Alright, let’s get you under the scanner to see exactly what kind of injuries and to what extent we’re talking about here.”
Jim motioned towards two orderlies and within a minute they had the man transferred to the Ancient scanner further inside of the room, knowing he probably couldn’t do more than a first survey and a primary patch up job, but everything was better than doing nothing.
“This will only take a couple of minutes and you won’t feel anything. So if you can – just try and relax for now, alright Commander?”
Who ever this man was though, he was a patient in need, and for now that was what really mattered. The rest would be the Iron lady’s head ache, not his.
He made a motion towards the screen a few feet away, “I’ll be over there if you need anything.”

He hoped that the other nice lady would be back quickly from wherever she is checking out now because he needed answers and he wanted them now. He could always shout out right now and give them a talking down to, but he wouldn't. They just finished a skirmish. That would tend to fry people's brains and lord knows that Takeda needs a long cold shower followed by several more hot showers and a sauna to finish it off. Like dessert but not to spoil himself. Well, a shower would be better...a quick one that is.

Jim looked at Rachel for a few seconds as he took in the news, then nodded slowly and motioned for her to follow him over to the control panel of the scanner, fired it up and watched as the pictures slowly began to emerge on the screen.
“Ok, so we need to notify Chalmers about this,” he said in a low voice, “and call security.” Jim pulled in a deep breath and pointed towards the screen that showed the fractured ribs in Akira’s rib cage. “On the other hand, between injuries like that and the Morphine you pumped in to him, I doubt he’s likely to cause us any trouble.” He couldn’t help but to chuckle quietly, “Or at least not the kind of trouble the SF’s can help us with… more likely to have trouble with compromised breathing and low sat’s. Not to mention the fluid loss due to the burns.”
Looking over his shoulder, Jim hoped Akira was still reasonably comfortable, before looking straight at Rachel and continued in the same low tone as before. “This is over our head…” and then mumbled, “Frack it, Mike! Why couldn’t you just have shut up and followed orders? We need you here!”

Takeda nodded. He had a little issue though when he said to take him out of his clothes, but he had to shake his head to get rid of his thoughts. It was professionally of course and not the other way around. He still felt uncomfortable stripping down before the Male nurse though.

He wanted his injuries to be tended to quickly of course so that he will be out of the medical section and back to his duty. Although, due to recent events, it seems to him that he is so far off to ever be ready for duty. He had a feeling. A small feeling that he was far from home even thought the Alpha Site had been his home. It just didn't feel like one anymore.

Only getting a small nod in return from Akira, Jim decided action was the only way to go, straightened up and waved over one of the nurses to help him. They spread a thin blanket over the man, to at least let him keep some of his dignity, before they started cutting off what was left of the man’s clothing.
He gave the slightly odd dog tags a curious look, before moving them aside to have them out of the way to be able to clean the cuts on the torso.
“So,” Jim grabbed a bowl of lukewarm water and started gently started cleaning the cuts to be able to decide which ones needed just a cleaning, some tape or maybe even stitches, “Australia you say. Where exactly? I’ve heard from the other Aussies here that it’s a pretty large continent…”
Yep, definitely small talk and means of distraction, but sometimes it was the small things that helped one get through things like this. It was probably very obvious, but then again it never hurt to try it.

Two lumpy SF's guarding the entry looking as bored as could be. She stepped in between their large frames, managing to at least stand next to Jim. "Don't ask Jim. Akira gazed into the petrifying, immortal stare of Commander Jordon O'Neil and gulped. She looked like a Gorgon with a petrifying stare that will turn him into stone. He nodded slowly understanding her position recognizing her, "Yes, Commander."

He figured him being here was trouble and maybe no coincidence. Something happened to him and he wasn't sure what was going on, but he hoped that someone will at least answer his question. If not anyone, he might as well ask her so he cleared his throat and asked, "Chalmers? She is alive? I must talk to her soon. What is going on?"

NPC - Jim Lucas, PA

With a frown, Jim looked up at from the cut he was cleaning, “She does, huh? Well, I’m afraid that until we can get a doctor worthy the title here to have a look at him - the proverbial mountain will have to come to Mohamed.”
Then couldn’t help but to chuckle, “…but I am not going to be the one to tell her that.”

‘Alive?’ The look he gave the man on the bed when he tossed out the question must have been full of disbelief, ‘What the heck’s he talking about?”
Even though his head spun with questions, he tried to push them away for now and placed a calming hand on a spot of Akira’s shoulder that didn’t bear any traces of being burnt in an attempt to calm and ground him, “Don’t worry. You’ll get to see her during the debriefing… but just not yet. We need to get you in better shape first.” and then turned towards O’Neil and with his hand indicated the chair a few meters away, “Have seat if you’d like. This might take awhile.”

'Does this man know me?' Jordan mused for a second. Then when he began asking about Chalmers, it didn't click with her at first. Surely he would have seen her in the hangar bay? Then it struck her, he may well be from an alternate universe or whatever they called it and he may well knew all of them in some way. "Neither will I Jim." She wouldn't dare tell the General something didn't go as the woman planned. Jordan then looked down at the patient, giving her head a small shake. "She's right up there." Pointing her finger directly above her. "In her office."

<<From Gateroom-Triage>>

While walking, Rachel slowly and careful let it slip to Carrie of what it was believed to be the guys origins; as far as they could tell anyway. "We think he popped in from another universe or dimension or whatever they call it now. His name is not listed on any of our data bases and yet he's been talking about people we know." As blunt as that, there wasn't really any other way she could say it.

"Here he is." She said as they turned into the open triage section. "You know Jim of course, Commander Jordan O'Neil, Doctor Carrie Svennson." Rachel made the formal introduction for the base XO's benefit, neither had met, but she guaranteed Carrie knew all about the woman who made headlines a decade ago. "And this is Takeda." Her hand rested on the bed nearby.

"How do you do Doctor, I've heard a lot about you...all good I must say." Jordan said extending her hand. "A little bit of a dilemma isn't it?" She added looking at Takeda.

Carrie raised a brow, “Huh, well following the tradition of this position, I guess I was bound to deal with an AU-guy sooner or later in my career…”

She followed Rachel further inside of the med bay and finally stepped around the curtain, taking in the scene with the readings of the monitors and the activity around the bed, then gave Jim a smile and a quiet “Hey”, before turning towards O’Neil, taking her hand, “Thank you Jordan. Pleasure to meet you.”

Frowning, she looked between Takeda and Jordan, “I’m not sure I quite follow you there.” She took the offered chart from one of the orderlies and walked over to the screen where the pictures of the scans were to have a closer look at them, “He’s a patient in need, I’m a doctor, so apart from the obvious variances in the physiology we might have, what’s the dilemma?”

Takeda continued to lay there in the bed watching the doctors and nurses fuss over him. It sooned dawned to him that they were all fussing over something that he couldn't understand before and now he realized that the stories were true. About alternate universes and people being in the right place but in the wrong time or universe. He remembered stories about Daniel Jackson or other members of the SG-1 going though this experience. It was the first time for Takeda and he had a distinct feeling that he did not belong in this universe.

Taking a large gulp and a slight pained wince, Takeda awaited whatever judgements the people of this universe would imperil him upon because he knew that he won't be going home. His home was destroyed anyways. There was no way for him to return. The least he can do, however is make himself home in this universe.

The look on Jordan's face said it all. Confusion. While true she had been based on the Alpha site for 2 years, 18 months of that had been as manager and overeer of the mining operations, under the guise of a civilian contractor. She had only earlier this year taken up her position again as a fully fledged SEAL and Naval Commander at Chalmer's request when a more permanent manager from the industry could be installed, one with a Stargate Command background. "So, I take it this alterant universe deal is not a new thing to you?" She was addressing both of them. Takeda would have heard as well.

"No, there has been a few in the past. Most of them somehow connected to SG1." Rachel told her.

"Ah, that makes some sense. I'm sorry Doctor Svensson, I was going on the point of the security angle. But you are perfectly correct from your perspective,"

“Oh!” Carrie looked at the three SF’s nearby, “Yeah, I guess we do have a different point of view here. Honestly though; between that,” She pointed at thin lines across the ribs indicating fractures, before nodding towards Takeda, “and the burns he’s got - he’s not going to be a threat to any of us for quite a while.”
Carrie made a motion to Rachel to come closer, “I’d like you to arrange a transport back to the SGC. AU or not, we’ve got more resources to deal with this there. Notify the anesthesiologist on call; I’m pretty sure it’s Andy so there shouldn’t be a problem for him to stand by in the gate room, ok?”
Another fast look in the papers and she tucked the clipboard under her arm and moved over to the patients head, placing herself at his right side.
“Hello Mr Takeda,” she said with a smile, giving his right hand a gentle squeeze, “I’m Dr Svensson. We’re about to get you ready for transport to another facility where we’re better equipped to deal with the kind of injuries that you have. I’d like to get there as soon as I've had a chance to have a look at you myself, but hopefully it’ll be within a few minutes. Before we do anything else though, I need to know if the pain meds you were given earlier helped? As I understand it, you’re from an alternate universe, so your reactions to the drugs we use might be a bit different than what we’re used to…”

Takeda was practically unresponsive as he was doped up on a morphine drip to ease his pain. Rachel knew this and had to at least make him able to talk clearly, even if his pain level went up a notch or two. "Easing off the drip a bit Carrie." She twisted the line valve back to reduce the flow.

Jordan had to clear her head, this was way too complex for her. Yet in thinking that, Carrie made more sense than she had heard in quite a while. God, why did Chalmers still have poor old Gordan around. "I'll go ahead and notify the SGC if that's okay Doctor?"

Takeda looked at Carrie and gulped as he nodded. The Morphine drip was lessening and he could feel his extremities again. He wasn't in much pain. Not anymore. He was handling it like a pro. When she said something about Alternate Universes, Takeda kept his silence. He didn't have much to say. Soon as he realized he wasn't in his world anymore, he had blocked up. To keep it to himself without saying anything. He felt like if they had a problem with him being here, then he would keep his silence.

Takeda turned away to his side as he closed his eyes once and re opened them. If he still had friends or contacts in his world, then it might be possible for him to reach them again in this new world.

Carrie gave Rachel an affirmative nod to ease of the pain meds for a short while, before turning slightly towards Jordan, “Please do, just make sure they have the burn unit to meet us in the Gate room as well.”
The way Takeda had turned away from her was a bit disconcerting, but everyone had their own unique way to deal with stress under circumstances like this.
As she spoke, she removed her fleece jacket and pulled on a pair of gloves.

Trying to be as fast and gentle as she could, she still knew she must have caused Takeda at least some discomfort during her exam. Some things just couldn’t be avoided, but between her, Jim and Rachel, they’d at least made the process as short as possible.
Carrie wasn’t really comfortable with her findings and hoped that Jordan would be fast in her contact with the SGC. She discarded her gloves and went over to Takeda’s head, crouched next to the cot and made an attempt to make eye contact with the man, speaking in a low voice.
“Mr Takeda? I’m not going to sugar coat this, because you need to know what’s going on and I need you to work with me for a while, ok? Your burns are pretty severe. The same goes for your fractured ribs since they are affecting your ability to breathe properly. So as soon as we’ve transferred you to our main facility, we’re going to put you to sleep for an extensive period of time to be able to care for your injuries to the best of our abilities and to make sure the next couple of weeks are bearable for you. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

So far so good at this point. Rachel moved closer to Takeda's head, she bent down so she wouldn't have to speak to loudly to him. In doing so she also nodded to Carrie, they did really need to get him to the SGC as soon as possible. "You can speak if you wish Takeda, but not much. As Doctor Svensson has just told you, you'll be under for quite some time so we can address your injuries. So anything you need to tell us, please do so now." She looked up at Jordan, giving her the go ahead as well. "While you're there Jordan, have them make sure Doctor Andy Fleming is with them as well please."

"I've got it. Fleming and the burns unit. They'll be ready by the time you are." Jordan was off quickly then, she'd make sure that she would radio or phone Carrie back once she had the SGC on the line.

Takeda let out an inaudible sigh. These women around him wouldn't just let it go and they were pitying him. At least, that's what it felt like. He shrugged responding to both Carrie and Rachel, "I do understand what you are saying and I do not know what else you want me to say. I do however wish to recover quickly especially if someone wants to interrogate me for information."

He closed his eyes and gulped slightly before re opening it and adjusted his neck on the bed for a second to get himself move comfortable for his journey back through the stargate.

“I can understand you wanting to get better as fast as possible, but considering your condition, that questioning is going to have to wait for a while,” Carrie straightened up, “Now just rest and we’ll try and get you as comfortable as possible for the trip.”
She quietly gave Rachel some instructions on how to adjust the drugs, taking the safe route and kept everything to a minimum before walking over to the computer, logged in and opened up a new file on the man; knowing that the medical database here would sync with the SGC as soon a wormhole was established. After that there wasn’t much else to do than to wait for the Gate room to give them the “Go”-signal.

"Jordan may be a while Carrie, especially if the SGC 's gate is busy. Do you think we should start moving him towards our gate room now?" Essentially that was a good plan, the sooner they get him over there and on the way to healing the better off he would be. Besides, Rachel was looking for an excuse to visit her old digs anyway.

That brought a laugh from Rachel, she had to admit Chalmers liked to cling onto her staff like a terrier, at least once they had come up to her standards that is. NPC - Jim Lucas, PA

>> From the Briefing Room >>

The door of the elevator slid open and Mike pushed away from the wall and entered the general area of the infirmary.
‘Same grey sofas in the waiting area, same odd, psychedelic painting on the wall as last time. Some things just never change, now do they,’ he thought as he walked over towards the nurses’ station. It was unmanned at the moment, so after another look down the halls and over his shoulder, he leaned over the counter and grabbed the clipboard with today’s roster only to notice that the name of attending physician was left blank.
Mike frowned, ‘That’s weird. Whatever happened to Gordon?’ put the roster back in its rack and headed down the hallway towards the offices.

With his arms crossed over his chest, Mike leaned his shoulder against the door frame and cleared his throat, “Hey. You busy?” and tried to sound as casual as he possibly could.
Jim lifted his gaze from the computer and leaned back in the chair with a small head shake. “No. Just catching up with some paper work.”
“Is Davies around?”
Another head shake of the PA, “No, we think he’s on another one of his walkabouts. Haven’t seen him since yesterday.” Jim made a motion towards the pile of papers on his desk, “Hence me sitting here. Doing my best trying to cover for him.”
Mike gave him a reluctant face but couldn’t help letting out a chuckle, “You’re way too nice, Jim. He’s taking advantage of you, you know…”
“Probably, but it keeps this place going.” Jim gave Mike another one of his scrutinizing looks, “Enough of that though. How are you doing? And no holding back, ok?”
Mike looked down at his boots for a second; thinking about his options before fessing up to himself, raised his head and took a deep breath. “I feel like crap.”
“Doesn’t take a genius to see that.” Jim deadpanned.
Mike knew where Jim was heading and held up a hand in a defensive gesture, “Look, just let me have a shower, a shave and something clean to wear – and I promise I’ll behave and be serious, ok? I’ll even use the showers down here if it makes you feel any better?”
“Ok. Med bay in 20?”
“Sure. No problem. I’ll be there.” Mike turned and started to walk down the hallway towards the staff bath room, when he heard Jim shout back at him.
“And no locking the door to the bathroom! You got that? You’re my responsibility now!”
Mike almost rolled his eyes, ‘Ofercryinoutlaud!’ Out loud he shouted back though, “Fine! Whatever keeps you happy for the next hour Jimbo!”
There was a retort from the PA, but because of the distance, Mike never caught the meaning of it and maybe that was the best.
As he passed the storages in the hallway, he grabbed some fresh underwear, a set of green scrubs and a single use shaving kit. The latter would probably leave a few scratches as it always did considering the policy of lowest bidder wins, but at least it was better than the itching alternative.

Closing the door behind him, Mike placed the pile of clothes on the bench and took a deep breath before he slowly eased off his sweaty clothing and dumped them all in the wash bin. He did not envy the poor guy who was going to deal with them in the laundry department…
Taking the few steps towards across the bathroom to look in the mirror he, for the first time, had a more close up look at his injuries; Chang had been right and no wonder Chalmers had looked at him the way she had.
He must have hit the left side of his face pretty hard against the inside of the hazmat suite helmet when that zombie decided to use him as a football in the confinement of the iso-unit, because the entire side of his face was sore and the cheekbone had started to turn in to a shade of bluish-purple color.
When he lifted his left arm to inspect the side of his ribcage, it was the same thing there, sore and bruised, but as far as he could tell as he traced the area with his fingers, it didn’t feel like there were any fractures, just very tender to the touch. The lower back - well, he had to satisfy with stating that it was sore.
Mike sighed, slowly shook his head and as he grabbed the shaving kit, he mumbled, “I knew I should have been a GP in Wisconsin…”

Five minutes later, he slid the doors shut to the cubicle, tossed the towel to hang over the wall and turned on the water. As usual it took about a minute of tampering before it got hot enough and when it did, Mike stepped in to its spray, placed both hands on the wall in front of him and let the hot water massage his neck, shoulders and back with a sigh of contentment. Allowing himself a full ten minutes of this luxury, he then made short work of the rest of his cleaning and a few minutes later he stepped out of the stall with a towel wrapped around his waist.
He couldn’t help slipping a sigh of relief as he sat down on the bench and for a minute rested his head in his hands while he gathered strength to get his clothes back on.

<<From Commissary>>

It was a relief in many ways to be back and although for a few brief short moments Rachel rather enjoyed her little foray back home, albeit just to the SGC. But now she was back, she realised how deeply she was at home here and not just the base, the entire world she had come to love and its people. A far cry from that deepwater bog pit of a place she grew up in; if the mosquitoes didn't get you, a rattler or wild pig would. That, drunkenness, prostitution or drugs or all three. The mere thought of that reminded her of her sisters and she hoped at least the youngest, Lacy Dee had found her way, Rachel had been paying for the kid's education and hopefully she would do something positive with her life.

Pushing those thoughts away, she entered med bay via triage to find Jim there not doing anything in particular. "Hey!" She said in a manner of alerting him. "I'm back, miss me?" She could smell that familiar smell of someone who had just showered seeping through the room. "Who's here?" She asked, thinking it was one of the other staff come back from town.

NPC – Jim Lucas, PA

Jim leaned his back against the wall, clutching the clip board in his arms. ‘What the heck’s taking him so long?!’ He gave his watch a fast glance, 25 minutes was at least 5 minutes more than they’d agreed on, and then looked across the corridor towards the staff bath room.
When he’d passed it earlier on he’d heard the sound of running water but for the last few minutes it had been very quiet in there.

Jim nodded towards Rachel when he came bustling in through the doors of the infirmary, giving her subtle smile, “You weren’t even gone long enough for me to notice.”
With a sigh he pointed with the clipboard towards the closed door across the corridor, “And you wouldn’t believe who it is even if I told you,” and by that he made the paper on the clipboard facing her, so that she in Jim’s neat handwriting in the header of the Post mission check up chart could read: Cpt. Michael Jaworski.
“He’s been in the shower for longer than he promised - no surprise there though – but could you do me a favor? Poke your head in and ask him how he’s doing?”

"Awww." Rachel made a face at him that would melt a Goa'uld's heart, she was very good at that. Then he dropped his little bomb, without saying so, but showing her he clipboard accidentally on purpose. "Michael is here? Wow....wow." She was partially speechless, Jaworski was one of her favorite MO's, she loved working with him and was saddened when he left. But at the same time, when he left so did the 'gang' and all that upheaval that went with it. While exciting at the time, the long space of calm afterwards gave her a chance to find peace. "Me..? Oh for sure, me in there with a possibly naked male." She only giggled slightly. "Alright then."

After waddling off in a rather lady like manner, Rachel came near the shower room door, she had to think what to say not knowing what frame of mind the man might be in. So, just opening the door slightly, not looking in, she raised her voice. "Michael Jaworksi, if you are not out of there in three minutes, I will come in there and drag you out!"  Her cheeks blossomed so much, not from anything else other than wanting to burst out laughing; although Rachel did her best to still her face, she was failing rapidly.

Mike snapped his head up when the door opened, “Ever heard of the word privacy, Rachel!?” he grunted. “I’m on my way; just give me another minute, ok?”
He got up and slowly moved over towards the door, peeked his head around the corner of the it, gave Jim a glare, Rachel his best plastered on smile, “Excuse me!” and then pushed the door shut again.

Just as slowly he walked back to the bench and with a small grimace, Mike reached down for the shirt and slowly pulled it on, not really making any hurry in the process of getting dressed.
Finally he looked like any day at work in his green scrubs, only this time he was the patient and even if he knew what to expect and couldn’t say he was nervous, he still didn’t look forwards to this.
‘Definitely an odd feeling, being in the receiving end’ Mike thought as he quietly walked out in the corridor in his socks, his boots in his hand.
He gave Rachel a tired look, making a motion with his head towards the doors next to the triage area, “I guess the med bay is still in there?”

"You know." She began. "I've seen your butt more times than I would like mister." That part was true, when a doctor needed his shots, it always fell to the head nurse and for the short time Mike was still here when she first came, she was the goto girl in that department. Come to think of it, she'd seen possibly every backside that had come and gone in the place and it wasn't always a pretty memory. "It is and what on earth happened to you?" She added, as she got a better look at him. He looked like he'd been through ten rounds with a prize fighter and lost badly.

NPC - Jim Lucas, PA

“Thank you,” Mike mumbled as he passed her.
He tucked his boots under the nearest cot in the Med bay, eased himself up on it with a small grunt and looked between Rachel and Jim with a small grin. “Whatever you do, make sure you never get locked up inside an Iso-unit with a P.Oed zombie. They’re much stronger than they look.”
He heaved a small sigh before continuing in a more serious tone. “Big guy hit me on the left side of my thorax. My head must have recoiled against the inside of  the helmet of the Haz mat suite upon impact with the sink behind me making my lower back taking the brunt of the force.”

Jim grimaced, “Aouch!”
“Yeah,” Mike nodded, “That’s pretty close to what it feels like.”
The PA moved around the bed as he spoke, “Shirt up please, let me see what kind of damage we’re talking about…”
Another sigh, but Mike complied and held up the scrub top so that the bruises on his back were in full vision.
Jim let out a small whistle, gently tracing the 2 inch wide mark that went all cross the back, “Some impact. It’s going to look real nice in a few days. You know; I think I might even be able to see the manufacturer of said sink. Elkay maybe?” He looked over at Rachel, “What do you think?”

With a squinting of her eyes, looking hard at that massive contusion, Rachel swallowed hard. She knew Mike was going to be in some pain for quite a while and she also knew he was the last person in the galaxy to take laying down easily, or resting for that matter. "Looks like it." She said, although she wouldn't want to bet on the branding; knowing how things worked, it could have as easily had the SGC logo on it. "I will say this though Jim, with the amount of pain Mike is experiencing, it could well be masking other injuries. Mike, don't you think professionally, if you were looking at yourself, you'd order a CT scan?"

There was one other thing, she could in the very least case, give him something to ease the pain and lessen the bruising. "The locals gave us some of their balms for testing. One has good results, much like comfrey only it's possibly five times stronger and has zero side affects."

Mike gave her a nod of agreement as he let the shirt drop again, “As long as it doesn’t make me purple and grow long furry ears, then I’m all game for testing it,” then added with a small head shake. “Don’t worry Rache, I won’t fight you over it. I’ll go willingly as soon as he,” Mike made a motion with his head towards Jim, “is done with me.”
Jim gave him a stiff smile, “Thank you doctor. Now, concussion. What symptoms do you have?”
Mike was a little taken aback by how he’d formulated the question and probably hesitated for a second to long before answering, since the next question came moments later. “Any loss of consciousness?”
Opening his mouth for a quick retort and putting a finger up, Mike then frowned as he thought back on the events, and with a sigh bowed his head before nodding.
“Yeah, I was probably out for 2 minutes or so. Can't really say I remember ever exiting the Iso-unit... The first thing I remember after being hit is me sitting on the Hangar bay floor.”
He pulled a hand through his damp hair and looked up at Jim, “Symptoms?” and got an encouraging nod and continued, “Well... no nausea, or dizziness. Head ache and mood swings, yes, but I've been up and running for almost 16 hours and toped it off with a four hour drill on board the Dread before I…”
Mike closed his eyes for a second and sighed before making eye contact again, “I guess a few pictures of my head would be in place while we're still at it, huh?"
A not so small, but still not very subtle either, smile took form in Jim's face, "Yep! You read my mind Mike."
He turned towards Rachel, "Kind of nice to have a fairly cooperative patient for a change, don't you think?"
"Fairly?" Mike looked between the other two, "I'm practically doing the job for you!?"

"I think Helen would adore you with furry ears Michael." Rachel said rather cheekily as she went to fetch the balm from the medicine locker nearby. "Besides, I've used it twice now on myself and you can't get a better test subject, you know how easily I bruise." One of her pet hates about herself, Rachel only had to look at her skin sideways and a bruise would appear. She returned with a large brown glass jar, unscrewed the lid and surprisingly the smell was rather pleasant, perhaps a little too pleasant for a male.

Giving Jim 'that' look, the man could talk. She's had a whiny session with Jim himself simply putting a couple of lousy stitches in his hand. Her raised eyebrows told the story. "Ah such a relief. Do want to rub him up with this while I go and notify the tech on duty that he'll have a celebrity coming for a photo session?

Jim raised a brow in a silent question towards Mike, who answered with a small shrug, "Go ahead. I don't mind."
Accepting the jar from Rachel, Jim gave her a nod, "You do that. I doubt this will take very long."

Mike carefully lay down on his side and then just as careful adjusted himself to lay on his stomach, pushed away the pillow and placed his right cheek on his folded arms, keeping an watchful eye on the door. Not that he'd really mind anyone discovering him lying here in a bed; it was more the fact that he didn't like surprises.
He heard Jim snap on a pair of gloves and couldn't help a small twitch of the sound, 'Fercryinoutlaud man! Relax, it's your lower back, nothing else...'
"You ready? I'm afraid it's going to be a bit cold on first contact, but it'll warm up within a minute and then slowly numbing it to a more comfortable level, ok?"
Mike nodded as best he could, "Sure. Just be careful, alright?"
"Always"
It was hard to keep back a hiss when the cold substance met his back, but as Jim had said, it didn't take long until a more comfortable sensation of warmth spread and the pain level dropped a few notches.

He must have drifted off for a few minutes because, when Jim all off a sudden placed a hand on his shoulder, he jerked and pulled in a deep breath, mumbling, "More tired than I thought I guess."
Jim grinned, "Apparently," then helped Mike sitting back up again, "Let's go see how Rachel's doing in her end."
Mike carefully eased himself off the bed and as he adjusted the shirt, he made a few movements with his midsection to test the range of motion, "Not gone, but definitely an improvement. Lead the way, Jim"

She was enjoying this, it wasn't everyday you got to stick it up to your MO, or in this case your former MO; it was much of a sameness anyway for the Nursing staff whenever a doctor in their circle needed treatment, you went out your way to give him or her as hard a time as possible. A little payback in some ways, not that she could say Mike deserved all that much, he was pretty easy going as far as doctors were concerned.

After walking away from the two men, Rachel was soon on the phone to the radiography tech, her conversation was quite animated in a light-hearted way. Three minutes later she was back at Mike's bedside. "Lieutenant Alvarez said he'll see you when you're ready and when Jim has finished with you Mike. He's a new guy, I had to tell him who you were, then he told me after I informed him you were old staff he did a head check on himself; there was a long silence, so figure that out." She wasn't about to tell him that Michael Jaworski MD was something of a celebrity around here.

“Everybody knows the monkey, huh?” Mike groaned. “CT it is then. I’ll probably be luminescent before this day is over with all the radiation and beaming back and forth…”
Jim gave him a comforting pat on the shoulder, “Don’t worry. As long as your hair’s still there, you’re within the safety parameters!”

When they came in to the actual CT-room, Mike gave the narrow bench-like bed a disgusted look; even if his back didn’t hurt as bad as before, he still didn’t look forward to lay down on it for the next 20 or so minutes.
Knowing though, that he didn’t really have much of a choice, it was just a matter of suck it up and deal with it.
With some help from both Jim and Rachel, they finally managed to find a position he thought he could stand for as long as it needed.
“Just shout if you need anything. I’ll sit by the tech, ok?”  Jim gave him a look full of sympathy, “…and I’ll try and speed things up.”
“Thanks.” Mike grinned a bit stiffly, “As long as I don’t move, I’ll manage. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
Jim raised a brow in disbelief, gave him a pat on his knee before giving Alvarez a nod to start.
Mike closed his eyes and tried to relax as he felt the bed starting to move, hoping he’d be able to once again drift off for a the duration of the exam. He had his doubts though…

Jim slumped down in a chair next to Alvarez and the tech gave him a quizzical look, “So this is the infamous Dr Mike. He doesn’t look like much of a menace to me.”
Jim exchanged a look with Rachel, before looking back at the tech, “Neither would you if you’d been beat up by a zombie.”
Alvarez shifted his eyes between the nurse and the PA, not really sure if Jim was as dead serious as he looked or just fooled around with him, then pulled in a deep breath and started to give the machine the commands necessary to produce the sets of pictures they wanted.

<Radiology>

After getting Mike settled, Rachel joined Jim and Matías in the radiology viewing room, not a place Rachel wasn't familiar with either. It seemed to her that with almost every patient of late who came through Med bay, they were destined to have their insides filmed at some point of the examination process. Now it had fallen to one of their own to be put through it, not that it was a bad thing; she herself had fallen asleep twice when for some reason or another she had to undergo a CT scan.

"To be perfectly honest guys, I wish all our patients were as easy as Mike to deal with. I imagine its simply because he knows only too well the garbage we have to put up with at times." She said candidly as the first images came into view.

Peering closer for a better view, Rache' whistled through her teeth as one by one the photos appeared. "Mike is one lucky dude, that is all I can say. With that amount of bruising, I would have expected some kind of bone damage..zero, zilch. Just a little internal bruising as far as I can see. Guys?" She said questionly to get their opinions.

Jim studied the pictures, “Yes, maybe he should buy a lottery ticket while he’s at it.” He pulled in a deep breath and got up from his chair. “I’ll go and release him. I’m pretty sure Mike would like to have a look for himself.”

A couple of minutes later, Jim was back with a slightly rigid Mike in tow. No matter what, he had in fact been able to doze off for a few minutes and as Mike sat down in the chair, he rubbed his face a couple of times to get rid of the last of the cob webs. “Alright, let’s see what we’ve got.” He looked towards tech and pointed towards the mouse, “May I?”
Alvarez shot a fast look at Jim, got an affirmative nod and pushed the mouse and pad over towards the doctor with a quiet, “Sure.”

Mike quietly scrolled through the different views of his inside, changed a filter here, some gain there and yet another setting to get another cut or slice of the head, abdomen or thorax.
Finally he carefully leaned back and looked at the others with a bit of a relieved smile, “Looks better than I feel for whatever that's worth. So... Can someone get me some more Tylenol please?”

"You should get some prints of these Mike." While some might believe Rachel was merely making a small jest, she wasn't. She'd known women back home to keep prints of their baby ultrasounds, she knew one guy earlier on who had a framed print of a bullet in his head, so why not Mike? Still his request for Tylenol shouldn't go unheeded, but is that what he really needed? Sure he was feeling uncomfortable and some pain; yet pain killers weren't the be all, end all. He was suffering more morally and mentally than anything else, he had two options; one go see Annie, or two, spend some time off with someone he was close to. For her money, Rachel would go for option two, but that was up to him and wasn't her call.

"I'll get them for you Mike, but you know....." She paused, no she wasn't going to put her foot in her mouth. "Yeah, two will do."

Mike let out a snort like chuckle at the mention of print-outs, “No, I doubt it look any good on the wall back home. We’d better leave it where it belongs. In the computer.”
He couldn’t help but to frown at Rachel’s hesitation, wondering what she’d wanted to say, but let it go, if it really was that important, she’d tell him later on.
“Yeah, two will be good. Thank you!”

Jim took a seat and started to fill in the form, but then with a sigh, leaned back in the chair and looked at Mike. “I want a second opinion on the scans.”
He got a silent nod in return, “Figured as much.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you, I know you wouldn’t jeopardize your life or anything, It’s more the fact that you’re reading your own images… with a concussion...”
Mike made a ‘go-on’-gesture with his hand, “And? So?”
Jim took a deep breath before rattling out, “I also want you off duty for a week As a precaution.”
Closing his eyes, Mike leaned forward towards the desk, placed his elbows on it and supported his head in his hands. He knew the PA was right, on all accounts. If he took a step back and looked at this from the outside, then he would probably come to the same conclusion. It was just hard to hear it said out laud.
“The Dread leaves for Atlantis in 48 hours,” he said in a low voice, “and I need to be on that ship.”
Mike pulled in a deep breath and looked back at Jim, “How about… if I report back to you before we leave, make another scan of the back and my head and if it comes back clean – you put me on light duty for the duration of the trip over there?”
Jim chewed on his lower lip for a few seconds before nodding slowly, “Could work. I’ll send the scans to the SGC right away with your proposition. Let’s hope Carrie’s still on duty.”
“Yeah let’s hope so.” Mike huffed, “Might give her a guilty conscience for getting me assigned elsewhere…”

At the sink Rachel was thinking all the while about Mike's state, not only physically, but mentally to. He'd burn out if he didn't unwind soon and knowing him he just wouldn't take a subtle hint to do so either and that gave her an idea. She hurried back to both men, glass and two Tylenol in hand, juggling not so much what she was carrying, more the words in her mind.

It was fortunate to that she hurried, just catching the end of the conversation and that played right into her devious plan. "Here you go Mike." Carefully she held out the water in one hand, the capsules in the other. "Second opinion eh? What about Annie? She's probably seen more CT scans than we've had breakfasts." Yeah right, 99% of those would be the head, but it might work at least on morale grounds for Mike.

With a grateful smile, Mike accepted the glass and pills and without any hesitation downed it all.

“Umm, no offence, but…” He looked between Rachel and Jim with a face of doubt and a hint of irritation in his voice, “Annie’s a shrink! When was the last time she read CT’s originating from below the neck?  I’ve got no doubts that she’d be able to tell me my brain’s still intact, but I’d rather have someone with a little more insight in the human anatomy of lower vertebrae and abdomen to at least have a look at the other images.”
Pulling in a deep breath, Mike used the table in front of him for leverage and stood, starting to feel annoyed about this whole thing. “Tell you what. I go and grab myself some food in the mess hall while you sort this out, ok?”
Jim nodded slowly, knowing when it was time to back off from Mike and give him some slack. “Do you have your radio?”
Mike patted on one of the protruding pockets of his scrub shirt, “Yeah.”
“Good. Stay on the base, keep the radio on and I’ll call you as soon as I know more.”
“Thank you!”  Mike gave them all a curt nod and then without any further delay took off, out of the room.

Jim looked at Mike’s retreating back for a few seconds before slowly turning in the swivel chair to face Rachel and just as slowly let out a breath through his mouth as a sign of relief, “That went well.”

With a small sigh Rachel watched Mike leave, she also gave a little shrug as well just to add to her frustration. Looking at Jim she had to say rather helplessly. "Yeah and I don't have a plan B either. I think the best thing we can do now is leave him be and hopefully he'll catch up with some of his crew, one in particular. As for the second opinion, we just send it to Carrie or Anne at the SGC. I think that's the quickest option don't you Jim?"

“Yeah,” Jim nodded, “definitely the easiest way out for all involved parties.”
He straightened up in the chair, pulled out the id-card from his pocket and logged in to the computer to update Mike’s medical files. Before hitting ‘send’ he added the scans as attachments, knowing it would all be transmitted to the Infirmary of the SGC the moment the two locations once again were connected.
“There, done all we can do for now in our end. So,” Jim pulled out his card from the keyboard and looked at Rachel, “I’m heading back to the office to try and clear up a bit more paperwork to keep this place floating for a little while longer. What’s your plan?”

For just a brief moment Rachel was somewhere else, in town in fact, where she had been when the LA attacked yesterday and where she wished she was right now. She did though have another three hours on duty, so at least she had something to look forward to. "Who did you mark it for attention Jim? I know Carrie was flat out when I left her....Anne was...um asleep, I know that because she has the most unique snore." What else could she do now other than do her rounds? Perhaps give Ruby a call, ask her down. "I may get Forster down here if she's free."

Getting up from his chair he looked down at Rachel with a small, but compassionate grin, “As long as you don’t put her to work down here. She’s on leave, remember? Look, I’ve got things covered here so why don’t you take her for a walk on the outside? You know, vitamin D and all that, there aren’t very much of that stuff in space. As soon as the gurneys arrived in the trauma bay of the infirmary, there was a fury of activity.
Within minutes, Herva had had both a primary and secondary survey by Jim and was on his way towards x-rays while it took Mike a while longer to get through in his end with the teenager Carib.

25 minutes later, Mike once again in less than 24 hours, slumped down next to the tech outside the CT-room. On his way in there, someone had been considerate to hand him a towel to dry his hair and that was exactly what he was now doing as the images of the boys head and neck slowly emerged on the screen in front of him.
The door behind him opened and Jim entered with an ipad in his hand, pulled over a chair and sat down behind him. “Someone’s really made a number on himself,” he said and handed over the pad. “Schoolbook example of an oblique fracture…”
Putting the damp towel over the shoulders of he's just as damp flight suite, Mike grinned slightly as he gave the images on the pad a closer look and muttered, “Carrie’s going to love this. It's been a while since she stretched her legs in the OR with something like this.”

Some five minutes after Mike had arrived the whirring sound of the electric motor of the buggy echoed in the long passageways of the base. Another minute after that two strong corpsmen were lifting Herva gently onto a gurney with Emily at his side, she had given him another 1mg's of morphine to ease his pain; along the way in she had his rugged seaman's pants and boots off in preparation for full examination and ex-rays.

Coming back into Triage was always an exciting time for the would be doctor, she felt at home here more than either on ship or in the air. If it weren't for having to drop out of Medical School in her fourth year to take care of her brothers, Emily would more than likely be standing right where Mike was now. She had no regrets though, becoming a Paramedic and then the Navy had fulfilled many dreams for her. Both Mike and Jim were busy with Carib for now, so all she had to do was wait, other than getting into scrubs, for that she had to find Rachel.

A day in the gym did wonders for the soul, especially if that involved nothing more than supervising some of the 'boys' of the base go through their exercise routines. Rachel felt fitter simply by being an audience, although she did manage 30 minutes on the treadmill and a few sets of weights; that was her bit, yet it made no difference at all to how she looked, now matter how much she did and she didn't care either. She was fitter than most women on the base bar the general and XO, maybe the CAG as well and she was proud of that.

Right now she was responding an automated call on her pager from Jim, that always made her day. The two of them were 'the' team and a damned good one at that. "What have we got?" She said as her announcement, her eyes took in both Emily and her old buddy Mike. Those eyes twinkled a smile stretching her rosy cheeks. "Michael, you simply can't stay away from me can you?"

Raising his right hand as a greeting at Rachel, his eyes never left the screens as Mike said, “Guilty as charged!”
Jim only nodded and gave Rachel a quick update of their two new arrivals, when Mike after a few more minutes let out a quiet, “Oh crap…” when the extent of the injuries became clear as the images appeared on the double screen in front of him. Even though the spinal chord seemed intact, C3 and C4 showed signs of high-energy trauma.
He rubbed his face and leaned back in the chair to let the others see as well and remained silent for a few moments as his mind raced and he weighed the options he had, then took a deep breath and faced Jim and Rachel.
“Alright, let’s make some plans here. From the looks of things, Carib needs an instant transport to the SGC. There’s no way we can do anything about that neck here. Now Herva - Jim, check the roster of those Germans and see if you can rattle up an orthopedic surgeon. We’ve got the equipment needed to put a rod in to repair his femur - all we need is someone with the know-how so no real need to actually get him through the gate at this point. If you can’t find anyone, well, then we’ll just have to move him as well.”
Mike got up from the chair, put his hands on the desk as he shot a glance through the glass in to the CT-room, before turning and leaned his hip against the desk behind him, looking back at the others in the room, “Help me out here – have I forgotten anything? Any thoughts before we get in to action?”

"That would be Gordon, Mike. He did check in a while ago and to my surprise he actually smelt fresh, no booze, no cigar smell, clean as a whistle. He did say he'd back when his duty roster kicked in which is about two hours from now." Rachel tried to recount the old guys steps, she knew he'd most likely take a nap or get something to eat. Whenever she spoke to him, or saw him even if it was for the umpteenth time she always thought of that actor Donnely Rhodes, she couldn't shake the thought of it, Gordon could be a twin. Even as she spoke, that man's incessant whistling could be heard outside in the passageways.

The door slid back on silent air, a largish figure in the typical old school Doctors white coat stood there, the face was old but filled with a look of wisdom. "Well I'll be. Micheal Jaworski how long has it been?" He slowly walked in looking at the patients, his head then turning to Em. "And you are here Emily because?" He asked.

Emily gulped, she promised the old man she would have someone stand in for her today she could hit the books, her face went red. "I er..." She stuttered.

"Give her a break Gordon. She risked her life to bring these people in." Rachel couldn't fault the girl, she did what she had to do.

"I see. Very well then. Jim, Mike care to appraise me?" He left it as it was, but he was going to make damn certain Emily passed her medical re-entry exam tomorrow.

Mike gave his old colleague and former boss a grin, “Hello Gordon, good to see you again.” It had probably been a year, give or take a few months since they’ve met given that Gordon rarely left the Alpha site, and Mike… Well he’d made sure he never had a reason to go through the gate in the opposite direction. Anyway, at this point, Mike wasn’t the one up for a walk down memory lane. From the looks of things, Rachel had been right; the CMO had showed up sober on his shift in spite his affection for the local brand of whiskey -no real surprise, but always a relief to all involved parties.
Jim handed over the two clipboards with the latest readings of their guests to Gordon, who flipped through the pages, then sat down by the computer and scanned through the set of images on the screens behind Mike, then with a deep sigh, turned around in the chair and looked at Mike, with a deeply concerned look, “I can deal with Herva here, but what about the boy? Is he stable enough the get through the gate?”
Mike looked through the window towards Carib and the nurse next to him for a second, then nodded, “Yeah. If I’ll sedate him and keep him immobilized, it shouldn’t be a problem.”
Jim raised a brow, “Shouldn’t be a problem? You shouldn’t even be working, Mike. And now you're talking about transporting a neck injury to the SGC.”
Tossing his arms up in the air, Mike glared at the PA, “We don't have much of a choice here, do we!? It's not like we're having a dozen anesthesiologists lining up for work on our doorstep!”

Rolling his eyes, Mike fished up the radio from one of the side pockets of his flight suite and growled, “Jaworski, Forster. What?” Ok so maybe she didn’t deserve that tone, but what was done was done.

Gordan's old head whipped around like an owl, he raised those bushy eyebrows several degrees as he looked Mike directly in the eye. "You're joking? No you're not are you?" More or less a ridiculous thing to say of course, but then this was equally a rather ridiculously awkward situation. While in time they could look after the young boy here at the base, time wasn't always on your side when dealing with neck injuries.

The base CNO simply shook her head, not in disagreement, on the contrary she agreed with Mike, there were no other options. "Mike, its not necessary for you to go. There are plenty of staff back home who can take care of him, as I know your ship is due to leave, its a little risky on your part isn't it?" Carrie and Anne surely would be able to do what was necessary.

"I have to agree with Rachel, Mike. You know this sort of thing, with post care and all; this could have you there for much longer than you have to spare." Gordon usually didn't bother with what the military demanded of their people, but he was not about to step on Helen's toes. Not today.

Emily was at a loss, the boy's life surely was more important, even if it meant the Dreadnought leaving a day or so later. Yet she knew to how these things worked. She desperately wanted to go at least to see Carib safely there; she could be back in time to do her exams. Her eyes we pleading as if to say to all of them. "Make up your mind guys."

Mike looked down at Gordon with a tired expression in his face, “No, I’m dead serious - wish I wasn’t, but I am.”
He clicked his radio again and replied to Ruby in a much calmer tone, “Sorry about that Ruby. That… was totally uncalled for but we’re a bit busy down here as well. A breakthrough like that sounds great though, but to move the Dread – I can’t authorize that, you’ll have to call McPhearson about that. With the engines repairs I have my doubt it’s even possible. I suggest you use the bunker down here, outside of the hangar. Easier to relay information to the SGC too, over?”

Looking over at the others in the small room with an almost pleading look, Mike sighed, “Look, since the Dread wont leave for at least a couple of days due to maintenance and I just want to finish what I promised, to safely deliver Carib to the SGC, I’ll gate back here and be out of your hair again as soon as I can. Trust me, I’d rather be on vacation than working, ok?” It really felt like he was fighting an up hill battle here and for once he actually missed being the one in charge.
Gordon pursed his lips but nodded after a few seconds of reconsidering Mike’s proposal. “Alright, do what ever necessary arrangements you need to do for a safe transport. Since it appears Emily prefers a more hands on training than her books, then take her with you Mike. She might actually pick up something useful for her exams in the morning. Jim – contact the gate room and make sure the SGC is ready in…” he looked up at Mike, “20 minutes?”
Mike replied with a grin and nod as he pushed away from the table he’d been leaning against, “20 minutes, tops. Come on Em!” and took off towards Carib in the adjacent room.
"Rachel," the CMO turned towards the nurse, "get Herva ready for the OR. I’ll meet you there as soon as I’ve changed in to scrubs."

"Good as gold boss." Rachel snapped into action, getting her orderlies moving in good fashion with father of the boy and his gurney being moved away to the outer OR room. His IV's were disconnected one by one, and soon he was being washed down by one of the male nurses. Gordon had at least instilled some decorum and respect for the locals in that regard.

The younger woman almost choked on her tongue when she was given the green light to go with Mike to the SGC; to the point she could have blurted out something she would have regretted later. “I’m sure I won’t, Emily.” Gordon said calmly and watched the two of them leave. He turned to Jim, “Thanks for covering for me while I was away. I’ll be in my office until Herva is ready in surgery.”
Jim only nodded as Gordon left; what else could he do? The place needed to he run smoothly, CMO present or not, or they’d all be in trouble – least of all the soldiers coming back here in need of medical assistance. He sighed, logged in to the computer and sent off an e-mail to the gate room tech:
Quote

“Medivac to the SGC in 15-20 minutes. Jaworski, Harris and one native. They’ll need of assistance upon arrival to the SGC / Jim Lucas, PA”

When Mike and Emily arrived in the CT-room, Carib had started to come around so Mike spent the next few minutes to talk calmly and reassuringly to the young man, explaining the situation and what was about to happen before he continued to make a quick neuro check and then turned to Emily.
“I figure you’ve done a few difficult intubations during this past year, so I was thinking I’ll keep the neck in line while you do the intubation. You ok with that?” he said quietly as he begun to prepare the drugs needed put Carib to sleep.

As Emily came beside Mike she looked closely at Carib, her heart went out to him and not simply because he had a sweet face; no one deserved to have an injury like this, well she could think of some rather nasty types who did, but not this boy. "Yes quite a few Doctor, I think I lost count around a hundred some time back." As hardy as the Cavaleiros were, they did seem to lead a rather rugged life and accidents were rife. She began immediately by pulling over the utility trolley with the equipment needed, the first thing she did was check his airways.

Mike gave Emily a small smile a nod and replied as quiet as before, “Alright, let’s rock and roll then.”
He pulled in a deep breath, handed over the syringes to the nurse and then focused down on Carib’s face. “You ready to go to sleep now Carib?”
The young mans eyes darted away towards Emily for a second before they looked back at Mike, “No, not really… but I guess I don’t have much of a choice, do I?”
“No,” Mike subtly shook his head, “Not really if we should have a fair chance to fix those fractures.”
Carib closed his eyes and sighed, “Okey…” then moments later looked back at Mike, fixing the doctors eyes with his. “Can I ask you a favor?”
Mike frowned, “Sure. Ask away.”
“It’s kind of embarrassing…?”
“Probably not to me. What is it?”
The young man seemed a bit unsure if he should continue, but since he’d said half of it, then away with the rest of it as well. “Can you arrange for my father to be with me when I wake up?” he blurted out in a fast and low voice, “I remember what you said about him being hurt, and I’m grown up, self sufficient and all, but still, I…” the voice died out and he swallowed hard.
“Don’t worry. There’s nothing embarrassing about wanting to have your kin around you when life is tough.” Mike gave Carib’s hand a gentle squeeze, “I promise I’ll do everything I can to have him there. Okay?”
“Okay…”
“Good, time for you to sleep then.” Mike turned towards the nurse opposite Carib and gave her a nod to start administer the drugs, “Sweet dreams Carib", he said in a low, soothing tone, “Open seas and wind in the hair… Waves rolling towards the shores…” Even before Mike had finished that last sentence, the man was asleep and seconds later all reflexes were gone.
Mike made eye contact with Em at then head end of the bed, “He’s all yours.”

Watching Mike work and even being his 'assistant' was an utter dream come true for Em, making just that one more step further to achieving what she started and had to abandon suddenly seven years ago. Into her fourth term of medicine, a family tragedy meant she could no longer stay at University even with her rather generous scholarship, she had to support her two much younger brothers and her father who could no longer work. Her mother, well that was a different story, the woman took off and left them all for another life as soon as the boys were about five. Emily has never spoken to her since.

Once everything was done, Em followed procedure, in no time she finished the completed cycles of the intubation, when all was ready she looked up again at Mike and smiled. "We're ready to go Doctor." That...she said in the most professional way possible, although she wanted to give him a hug for allowing her on his team.

Jim poked his head in, “Mike? The gate room’s ready as soon as you get there.”
Mike nodded, “Thanks,” then turned to Emily with an appreciative grin, “Nice job. Now let's move it.”
As they maneuvered the gurney out of the room and towards the elevators, Mike clicked his radio, “Gate room, Jaworski. We’ll be with you in two minutes. Patch me through to the SGC as soon as you’ve established contact. Over”
As they waited for the elevator doors to open, Mike shot a fast look at Em, “So you’ve finally decided to get back to Med school, uh? When do you leave?”
Her failing the upcoming exam wasn’t even an option in his mind. He hated losing a good medic, but gaining another MD with a lot of real life experience wouldn’t be all too bad either… and then there was just so much of him in her although they’d made different priorities at some point in life. Him taking off and leaving his family as soon as he possibly could – her staying with her younger siblings. Mike couldn’t help but slip a small sigh, ‘Yeah, different choices, different opportunities.’

There weren't too many things about Emily that people regarded as cute, other than being small. But she did have one thing that so often melted even the hardest hearts and that her gap toothed smile. She probably should have had braces fitted at some point in her life, even now at twenty seven it wasn't considered too late; the point was for her as a kid her parents could never afford it and neither could she herself as the duty of supporting her family after the double tragedy of losing a mother and a father crippled by a tragic work accident. That was the sole reason she dropped out of med school in the first place after just four years, life was full of 'if onlys' for her, if only she could have seen out those last two years. Even with her scholarship she still needed to be earning to provide a life for her two brothers and her father. Em never had any regrets though and she had good reason to smile at Mike, after thanking him of course. "Thank you sir....you don't know do you?" She couldn't hold this back. "I'll be finishing my degree here, right in Foreston. Their University has accreditation now from the US Air Force Academy Hospital." That was something to be happy about, Em had nothing to go back home for now that her family were doing better.

Kim shivered a bit as she curled up under the blankets more.  She felt like she was going to forever have a chill.  She had never been so cold in her life.  Even now that she was back with the living she still cold.  She moved her head to see if she could see her friend.  "Bobbie?" she squeaked as her voice wasn't cooperating real well with her.  She had been in and out of consciousness over the last day and she couldn't remember what she had heard about Bobbie's condition.

"A frozen bloody popsicle that's what I am." Bobbie swore to herself as she sipped deeply on the hot chocolate the chubby blonde nurse had given her. Right now in the bed with the curtain pulled back she had no less than five blankets; but at least her shoulder was feeling better, having last night a quick stitch up job by the kindly old Doctor.

She was about to slide back down beneath the covers when she heard a familiar voice opposite her bed. Bobbie popped up again to see her dearest and best friend eagerly looking around for her. "Hey Kimbo, over here!" She said joyfully, noticing Kim to had a hot drink, yet untouched, by her bedside. "You had better drink that or I will." Her old self was back, if very cold.

Yep still the same two flighty girls who had gotten up to so much mischief aboard the station, a regular pair of young women who it seemed were still only 17 or so. Before she answered Kim she pressed her buzzer which brought a swift nurse running to her. "You okay?" The woman asked, a local as well, not one of the service nurses.

"Yeah I'm fine. We're still feeling the cold and I know this is going to sound kinky. But do you think it would be okay if I slipped in with Kim. You know body warmth and all."

The woman cocked her head in amusement. "Deary that would be perfectly fine, I would recommend it in fact."

That brought a joyous whoop from Bobbie and in less than a few minutes she was snuggled in next to Kim, her own cup of hot chocolate in hand. "Better, I'm feeling warmer already aren't you?" She had the nurse give her the remote for Kim's TV that was suspended on an arm at the end of her bed. After flicking through the base channels she once again squealed in delight, yes like a teenager. The opening sequence of Men In Black had just started.

Right from the beginning these two had been close, as close as friends could be; they shared each others lives so much in fact that quite often rather than dine in the separate crew and officers mess back on the station, Kim and Bobbie would often be seen taking their meals in the astrodome, possibly the most awe inspiring section of Zulu. When life took a hard turn for either of them, such as news from home, they shared each others grief, or joy depending on what was sent to them. They were as close as people could be to being family, it was a fact that the Commander encouraged that being so isolated as they had been. As the movie played, Bobbie spoke quietly of the future. "Where do you think we'll end up Kim?" She asked, still not knowing her own fate. "It'd be so cool if we were placed on a SG team together wouldn't it?" Her thoughts of Atlantis now taking a back seat to her friendships.

Kim savored her hot chocolate as the movie played.  If it wasn't for the fact they were in an infirmary it would almost be like they were back on Zulu.  It wasn't the first time the girls had sat down to enjoy a movie together after all.  Kim had never had a better friend than Bobbie.  There were times the younger girl felt more like a sister to her.  Kim thought for a minute.  "I honestly don't know."  A smile touched her lips which were finally taking on a pinkish color again.  "Oh, that would be great.  Since Zulu is gone I guess we'll all be reassigned now."

By this point Will Smith had made his entrance into the movie with the little lesson on 'space pistols', Bobbie had to squeeze her legs together tightly to stop from wetting herself she was laughing so much as Will went flying backwards from the effect of the tiny alien weapon. She had to literally hold her sides before she could reply and it felt damned good to, getting all that anxiety out of her system. "They'll put a new crew on her after the clean up Kim, but I think the SGC will decide its best from a psychological viewpoint they don't place any of the old crew back there. I am kind of in the same ball park there." She snatched a small choc chip cookie the nurse left for them, ate it then took another before continuing. "Basically we'll have four choices, or at least that is what they'll say..." She knew well there won't be any choice at all. "An SG team, here at the Alpha site, Atlantis or a ship. I'm hoping for the first one and I think maybe they might want to keep some of us together at least." She was hopeful on that score.

Kim couldn't help but start laughing as Will Smith was thrown backward.  She loved this movie despite the fact they had met different races.  It still cracked her up every time she watched.  Kim shuttered a bit.  "I don't think I could handle being back on the Zulu.  Not after losing so many."  She still hadn't heard what had happened to Leon, but she didn't hold out much hope of seeing him alive.   Kim sipped on her hot chocolate as she watched the screen.  "Hmm, you're right.  I'd rather be on an SG team," she agreed.  She didn't want to really leave completely and a ship didn't sound appealing to her.  Although she knew in the end it really wasn't their choice.

How weird was it that the two of them were watching this old classic about aliens on Earth and the risks 'out there' posed and here they were, having been there done that. Secretly Bobbie wished she could somehow get an invite for Will and Tommy Lee Jones to see what they do. When Bobbie was a kid all those years back these two guys were her heroes. It was even weirder that the current US President could almost be a twin for Will, other than he was a little older and shorter. "We'll make a pact Kim. No matter what we're given, we will do everything we can, touch every base we can to make sure we stay together. We've been through too much to be split up now." She put her now cold cup down to hold out a hand for Kim, a good old Aussie handshake was as good as a contract.

Kim had to admit, she was enjoying watching the old movie.  They didn't always get down time like this.  Not that she enjoyed being frozen but at least they were getting some time to rest.  She turned to her friend after munching on a cookie.  "I like that idea," she said.  She didn't want to lose Bobbie.  At least that way the two of them would be together.  "I completely agree," she said, turning to shake Bobbie's hand.

Sitting on the edge of his desk with his hands supporting his old creaky back from behind Gordon was more than pleased with Flynn's progress. Yes she still needed her crutches now and then, but that was merely due to the fatigue that came with getting one's strength back. Another six weeks with the plaster and she'd be fine as rain. He only wished he could do more for her.

"So then Flynn, excited to be going home at last?" He knows how much she had missed home, their little discussions and the not missed friendship she'd made with one of the base personnel was obvious, a longing for those green hills. What she didn't know that Blake was being transferred back home as well, so maybe something might come of that. "Paper work all done and I have a note here that all your belongings from the Saggitta are secured for you back at the SGC. Now, you have your scripts for pain meds if you need them, frankly I'd avoid them if I were you. The only other thing you need to do is check in once a week with the base MO or down at the Academy Hospital." At that point he stood erect, or at least as erect as a man his age could manage.

Flynn found herself wanting to fidget.   Not so much from nerves but excitement.  She was going home, but then again she would be leaving Blake which left her sad. She nodded.  "I am.  Although it is beautiful here.  I just hope to get some rest without any threats for a bit, " she chuckled.  It was still hard to think about what had happened and it could send her into  nightmares still.

Flynn nodded.  "I'd like to stay away from the pain medication if I can, " she agreed.  She didn’t want to have to rely on them.

"Well then..." He gave her a warm fatherly hug. "...you know kid I'm going to miss you around here and I hope your travels might swing you back someday. Flynn, you have been one of my best patients, I rarely say things like that so before this old guy breaks down, go on, enjoy your life, take care and for heavens sake girl keep your head down okay?" She'll be alright, he knew it. Flynn was one damned tough cookie to have endured what she did.

Flynn returned his hug.  Next to Rachel, Dr. Daniels had been the one to help her through each step.  "I'm going to miss you too."  She nodded with a smile.  "I hope to come back here some day, just not because of being injured," she smiled.  Flynn still had nightmares but she was trying.  She stood carefully.   "Thank you for everything."

Tears slid down her cheeks.  "Thank you," she whispered.  She had never been a weak person before, but right now she was still emotional.  And so much was going to change now.  She hadn't had a chance to speak with Blake about her going home or find Rachel again.  She was going to miss her new friends.

<Recovery>

Lanam awoke to find himself in strange surroundings with wires and tubes connecting him to even stranger devices he'd never seen before. A constant soft beep beep filled his hearing as he tried to glace sideways to see where it was emanating from, seeing a box like machine with coloured lights and a series of graph like numbers on the face of it. Twisting slowly in the other direction with a small grimace feeling a little pain in his side he saw a fair haired lass nearby. "Miss, may I speak with you?" He asked.

<Recovery>

For two days Rachel had watched over the Cavaleiros warrior, for though she didn't know him she had heard much of him especially from Josile who had been in and out since the hour he was brought in. Andy had handed over to Gordon, but there was nothing more to be done other than to wait for Lanam to wake, then see how he progressed from there. While a lot of repair work had been done, it was his blood group that was the hardest to find, being one of the rarer grouping even among his own kind. The most strangest thing was that it was within the Borg they had found the match, which naturally had everyone talking, wondering. When he spoke Rachel turned to him immediately. "Yes of course sir, how are you feeling? You have been through a harrowing ordeal, do you know where you are?"

He went to move only a little but felt a sharp pulling pain in his side again. His hand slid down his ribs then to his abdomen to feel the bandages there wrapping his body securely. "No I don't but can I assume from your attire and these machines I am connected to that I am within the Earthern facility known as the Alpha Site?" If that was so it meant he was near Foreston and that meant Josile would definitely know he was there. "Is it possible you know Josile Serantel Miss? I'd be grateful if a message could be taken to her, if its not too much trouble."

Coming closer to the bed Rachel placed a hand over his arm. "Yes that's right and you know..may I call you Lanam by the way? Well anyway it makes me so very happy to hear you say that. We have all been worried about you as there were concerns with infection but you did fight it off. You've been asleep for two whole days." She looked over her shoulder briefly, Josile had gone but Rachel knew she'd be back soon. "I think you should give that message to her yourself. She has been here for most of the time and in fact she left only a short while ago. I know she'll be back."

That piece of information made him sit up sharply changing his normally dour expression to something closer to a half smile. "Of course you can but I insist on knowing your name, I can't very well keep calling you Miss now can I? But what you say, she has been here? You do not know how that has lifted me, please if she is still within your facility I must see her." There were so many things he wanted to say to Josile, most of those being how sorry he treated her in the past.

"Poor man." Rachel thought to herself knowing he had been put through so much himself that his only thought was for the woman he loved. But then she knew the Cavaleiros mindset quite well and that was caring for others before self; a rare trait these days in any humanoid race. "Rachel, you can call me Rachel as I don't believe my rank should be of any great importance to you Lanam; its irrelevant in any case. Listen, do me a favor please, try to relax as you have quite a lot of stitches in you that is all holding you together right now, sleep a little if you can and I'll go see if I can find her for you, how's that?"

Another defiant attempt to move put Lanam right back down again, a little sweat breaking out on his brow. "I'm slowly getting the picture Rachel and thank you. You know I feel so damned awkward, I've taken injuries before this many times but not one that has me feeling so incapacitated, do you know what I mean?" He was quite confident she did. "I'll wait then, but please if I do fall asleep tell her to wake me if she does come."

A full day had passed since Josile had spent time with Lanam. Of course she had been back and forth since the first visit when Rachel went looking for her and in the evening of the next day she was on her way back with some fresh clothes for him which she had left at the Nurse's station. She had been told he was going to be released late this afternoon and his physio progress and been nothing but a miracle. That was put down purely to the Cavaleiros own abilities to heal and recuperate quickly.

The girls managed to get back to base in good time: better than good time in fact, Bobbie's hair was all over the place from the wind blown event, her eyes had been watering from the sheer exhilaration of it all. Who ever thought that a Humvee could be pushed so hard; well of course Kim was driving so that said it all. "Kimbo! Really you are doing the wrong job, I know someone who get you a drive with the WRC....erm World Rally Championship that is." She laughed in the spirit of the claim of course, but in essence it was good for anyone to see the girls in such a jovial mood lately, far from the nervous shell shocked young women that came to the Alpha site some months ago. "Now to find...." and as they say, speak of the..

"Girls!" The Cavaleiros leader called to them from behind as they were about to turn into the hallway leading to the Medical wing. She ran to them swiftly. "The Sergeant at the gate said you came looking for me, what is it that brought you back from town at such a devilish pace. You drove right past me in a cloud of dust." She was joking of course, the woman was in fact resting under a shade tree from the heat as Kim and Bobbie went passed her.

"Go on Kim, you tell her. I'm still trying to catch my breath." She wiped a small bead of sweat from her brow.

Kim loved to drive.  And the humvee was a blast to put through its paces.  Of course it handed like a dog, but hey, one couldn't be picky.  It had good ground clearance and could go anywhere.  She grinned at her friend as she readjusted the sloppy ponytail that was now falling out.  "What can I say?  Driving is a passion," she laughed, climbing out to walk with Bobbie toward the infirmary.

They didn't make it far before Josile hailed them.  Perfect.  Less time wasted this way.  A grin was plastered on her face.  "Well, alright.  We were wondering if you by chance knew anywhere to find some beautiful flowers.  Colonel Bixby and Commodore Whitmore are finally getting married!" she said, clapping excitedly.

<Corridor outside Infirmary>

The look on the Cavaleiros woman's face was priceless; if a photo of sheer excitement was up for a prize, hers would ace it perfectly. "Married! Oh my goodness that is marvelous news...oh dear, now I know what that message was on my communication device. I was about to read it when the power cell failed. It was the invitation from Miki's office, I hope she'll forgive me for not answering when I should have."

"Nah, you'll be okay, I'm sure Miki wouldn't have had time to read her mail anyway." Bobbie reassured her as she bounced on her toes. "Soooo, the flowers can you help us Josile...please?" She added.

Josile stepped closer giving the two girls a hug. "You two run along and do what you must do. I'll make sure the prettiest bouquet's are ready by the time Alex and Michelle are ready to seal their vows." Gently she pushed apart from them, turned about then ran in the direction she came from.

Bobbie laughed joyfully. "See Kim, we are living on a world of miracles, come on, we can quickly let Michelle and Alex know what we've done, then we need to start getting ready. I'll give the base hairdresser a call on our way and we're almost home."

Kim laughed.  "Caught us by surprise.  But it is certainly something we're excited about."  It took everything in her not to bounce on her feet.  Weddings were always great anyhow, but to know that it was Alex and Michelle.  It was just perfect.   Something good to take the place of all that they had endured on Zulu.

"Thank you, Josile.  We appreciate it so much."  As the woman disappeared Kim turned back to her best friend.  "Can't believe how this is coming together.  It certainly is a place of miracles.  Yeah, let's hurry.  You know how hard it is to tame these curls," she laughed, heading toward Michelle's office.

It was good to be back at last. No more camping out in the snow, a warm bed each night and decent meals. After almost six weeks down in Merrenden and that horrible war, Emily was prepared to get back to a normal routine at last. She checked in with the Nurses station to find Rachel was back as well. "Hi Rache' when did you get back?" She asked, noting that the Alpha Site CNO had lost a little weight, she thought nearly everyone had who was down there in the thick of it.

"Emily! Good to see you in one piece. Yesterday morning, we finished moving the last of the wounded the night before then it was the usual de-camp. When did you get in?" She missed seeing the young Aussie, always a bright moment in their day whenever Emily was around.

"About an hour ago. We had to make sure the aid stations were clear before we moved. There are still about two hundred of our troops down there searching for stragglers. The numbers are good though, we haven't listed any MIA's as yet." They talked on for a while after that until Em decided she needed to change.

While they were talking Noah's voice came over the desk radio intercom, without answering it immediately Rachel looked at Emily, a question lingering on her mind. "Well not a bad catch." She thought although whether Em was an interested party was to be seen. "Em, you've got a call. I'll put it through to the other desk."

"Huh?" She certainly wasn't expecting anyone to know she was already back and as Rachel didn't say who it was she had to ask. "Who is it?"

"A sailor I'd say, someone who has their eye on you." Now that was cryptic.

Then it dawned on Emily, it had been quite a while. She knew exactly who it was. "Noah! How are you? Emily speaking....how did you know I was back?"
