Climbing into the cockpit Richard realised that once again he had overlooked the obvious literally. "Yes, thank you Colonel I didn't take that into consideration. All I can say is good luck on the journey and please be careful out there, we both know the high stakes in play here." He took a lungful of air simply because he failed too often to get outside of that tower and see the sun on his face and breathe that rawness of life that came hand in hand with where they were. "I will say this Colonel, meeting Sunniva in her own environment is a world of difference to meeting her here. Be prepared to be overwhelmingly amazed, that's about all I can say. When you arrive you'll be outside their complex, there is a long bridge leading into the city that crosses a frozen river, I think that would be the best place to land and the closest. Be sure to hail them when you break hyper space, they are a touchy lot on protocol."

Next was to get the ball rolling in other spheres of the galaxy. Richard gave Radek a reassuring pat on the arm. "Much appreciated Doctor." The man was efficient and damned irreplaceable in his mind. "Colonel Radovic this is Richard Woolsey. Inform Commander O'Connel he has my blessing but please reiterate to him that we're putting a timeline on his search. If he doesn't find anything within two hours, he is to return here immediately. We don't want to risk things now, with his presence in that sector for longer that necessary." Even two hours was far too long in his mind.

"Doctor Zelenka, what are you doing in the next hour or so?" Richard needed a bigger advantage for the city, he wasn't sure right then and there what it could be but he did have something in mind if they could pull it off.

Zelenka

Zelenka jumped a little,  Woolsey's voice had nudged him, bringing him back to the present

He pushed his glasses along his nose

"Errrr, nothing, nothing at all, what is it that you require?"

Whilst waiting for Sheppard's response Richard carried on with what was at hand. "I understand Colonel Radovic, I'll leave my radio open for you." Now he knew John was anxious to be away so he started to leave the cockpit speaking to Radek as he climbed down the stairs.

"Something that I read from old SG1 reports Doctor. During a skirmish with remnant Ori forces back in 2009 decoy drones were deployed from both our ships and the AC-401. Now I know that all of our ships carrying them and I was wondering if it were possible to deploy batches of them in various areas, say near other planets for example, to give the Vanir the impression that we are more of a force than the are reckoning on." He had read that these drones gave off the energy signature of the ship or ships they were deployed from; his reasoning was that this would give the impression they had more numbers than they actually had. It wouldn't work long term, yet it would buy them time as the Vanir went chasing ghosts.

"What?" Radek said wearing that permanent confused look on his face when Woolsey was talking. It did set in and he did remember reading those reports and on the face of it given the abilities they had it felt like a solid plan. It could be done. "Yes, yes I'm sorry I understand what you're getting at. If you arrayed them within the belt of the thermosphere in a geosynchronous orbit that will work and give you the impression you need." He pushed his glasses of his face. "Was there anything else?"

"Mister Woolsey, this is Chief Petty Officer Walker of Mako. Sir, what's your location? We're currently gearing up the Gate Room personnel now, and I'd like to keep you within arm's reach of me in case this all goes south, sir."

"I think I understand Doctor, in fact I am sure I do." There were times when Richard was totally baffled with science speak, not this time, Radek had made the point quite clear. "We'll head back in now, there is much to be done." As he finished speaking a call came in that while not expected, it was appreciated. "As of now Petty Officer I'm on the piers heading back inside. I'll meet you in the base canteen, I'd like to make an address to as many as possible. Could you ask Amelia to make an announcement to call everyone there; we have a lot to cover and very little time to implement it."

Landing the fighters had been fairly easy, since the position chosen had been intended to support a -304 to land on it, and so it was more than enough room for the two fighters to land. Jack's fighter had remained mercifully stable on final approach. The hardest part was first lining up due to the cloaking field, requiring them to start their approach purely by instrument flying.

A crew was already on the ground to secure the craft for storage, at which point, Jack and AJ were told of the possibility of an attack and required to be armed at all times. This meant they were issued kevlar vests, as well as Jack being given a P90 and AJ taking an M4. They already had their own sidearms, M11s, which was the US Military designation for the SIG Sauer P228.

"What the hell did we just land into?" Jack asked while clipping the PDW to his vest. He was a little uncomfortable with this, he'd undergone advanced weapons training after joining the Program, it was mandatory for just about every member of the military joining these days, but the Navy never put much emphasis on his firearms training. He was qualified with pistols and rifles, but only just, his skillset used weapons on a far larger scale.

"I've no idea, but maybe we can get some answers." AJ replied as she slung the carbine over her shoulder. AJ's Marine Corps service had ensured she'd been better trained with small arms. This was less to do with her career field and more to do with the Marine Corps own institutional mythos of itself. Moreover, she had been sent to numerous field exercises with Marine ground units, as part of a program to better connect the Air Wing with the grunts on the ground and what they went through. Unfortunately, being stationed at Miramar often meant she had to go to Twentynine Palms, where she felt sorry for the Marines sent to that hellhole. It was far better to go to Okinawa while stationed in Japan.

"Well, I am starving, so CAG's prerogative, we're getting something to eat and then we'll report in fully. And somewhere along the way, we'll find out just what the hell is going on around here." Jack said.

"Aye aye, Commander." AJ replied with a smile, pulling herself under Jack's arm for a moment as they walked.

 <East Pier>

Having brought the Liberty down smoothly with little fuss, Alecia gave Rob a high five, he deserved it. She unbuckled herself from the pilots seat, hung up her helmet before unlocking the seat turn mechanism. "I imagine there will be some kind of debrief with Woolsey and Sheppard, one or both. Most of which will be from Lorne and his team's point of view with us and Hobo adding points where necessary. Most of all I want a decent shower and something proper to eat Rob and do some catching up as I am pretty damn well sure we've missed a lot since we've been gone." Standing she made her way through the back of the cockpit, down the four steps to address AR-2.

"Now we're here Lorne, you guys can lead us off. I don't know where they want us, but I'd say the Gate room might be a good start." She opened the airstair to be greeted by a maintenance crew waiting for them all to disembark.

Rob returned the high five.  Somehow they had all survived and returned in one piece.  It was certainly something to be happy about.   "You're probably right, " he agreed.  Debriefs were the worst in his opinion but he also knew they needed done.  It was the only way to know what was going on.  He laughed a bit.  "A shower would be much appreciated.   And a good hot cup of coffee." Sure they had had some while they waited but now he knew they didn't need to stay on alert.

Loud speakers had recently been fitted on the exterior of the city and for good reason.

"Attention. All personnel are required in the base Cafe immediately. All personnel are required in the base cafe stat!"

>>From Cafeteria>>

Jack and AJ's F-302s were still waiting on the pier, and one was quite visually striking, even before the hole was taken into account on the top near the vertical stabilizers.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

The body was a lighter shade of grey and the markings were all much higher visibility. The roundel was red white and blue, all of the USAF markings were replaced with NAVY in black, and the nose number was in orange, along with the tail letters. The edges of the vertical stabilizers bore an orange trim with black accents. To the uninitiated, it was needlessly flashy.  But to those who knew, it was the mark of being the Air Group Commander and Squadron Commander, a mark of pride to stand out among a fleet of low visibility grey and black marked aircraft, a call back to the days when all fighters in the Navy's inventory bore such bright liveries.

"Can't miss the hole, Doctor. It looked to me like it was an energy blast, but much slower moving and a bit bigger than, say, laser cannon fire from a Wraith ship. Kind of followed me but not as accurately as a Drone. I'm going to have my guncam footage pulled and forwarded to you guys as well. But my money says that the Vanir haven't been idle." Jack said, while a ground crew team moved a ladder into place.

"I'll try to answer what I can, but pretty sure there's not much I can say unless you wanted to know the capabilities of their craft and pilots. My wife has a better head for math and science than I do." Jack said a bit sheepishly.
