"It had better be." Lanam snapped at Worthag's question. He turned to the helmsman, one of the former captain's crewmen, an older veteran by the looks of his many scars. "How do our odds stand man? What tactics are generally used by your people in these situations?"

The old man squinted his eyes answering in his foreign drawl. "We be fairly even Cap'n, gun fer gun. Best approach be head on, presents a much smaller target."

"Good, my thinking exactly." For a moment he had to fiddle around with the communicator to the  gunnery station, he soon had them in contact. "Guns, load full rounds, on my mark fire, aim for the bridge."

"Will do Captain, we have them in our sights." A younger voice replied back.

"Helmsman, turn five degrees to port, full ahead."

"Aye Cap'n." The little ship shuddered as the virtual hammer went down on the engines. Swiftly it began closing the distance.

"They've seen us!" A shout came from one of the lookouts.

Lanam lifted his binoculars again, sure enough the enemy was turning towards them at speed, yet they were off to their own starboard side, still showing most of their flank.

Wait a minute, they were going gun to gun? Urzoth was not at all used to these things.  She snarled a bit though.   "We won't let them win.  We can not let them.  Both our people depend on this victory. "  she knew death was the only other option.

Urzoth ran to the edge of the ship, gripping the railing.  A feral grin touched the Borg's lips.  "Think we can still win this.  Are we able to hit the side quickly before they can turn?" She asked, looking back at the crew who had seemed only too happy to help them.

Worthag snarled as the two seaworthy vessels approached each other quickly. He wasn’t used to battles on the water but he was quickly learning.

“Destroy it!” He yelled as Lanam gave the order to fire.

Their ship fired with some shots hitting the bridge while others strayed hitting the deck.
The enemy returned some fire in desperation but luckily only a few shots landed causing one small flame.

“This is ridiculous we will not be able to surprise them again!” Worthag didn’t like having to rely on others to win a fight for him.

“Get close and maybe we could board them!” Worthag was far more comfortable in a close fight.

Tor had been informed that they were entering a battle as their ship began to rock, he quickly grabbed some buckets with water and rushed to where fires were starting.
The ship rocked as a bit of water spilled from his bucket but he was determined to help keep this boat afloat.

What had started as a small fire was quickly growing, Tor threw the water from the buckets but could tell they were in a great deal of trouble.

“Somebody help!” he called out running for more water.

"They've seen us!"

A shout was heard from somewhere on the ship when they fired at the enemy vessel. Josh could only sigh and roll his eyes. I guess we're fighting them, then, he thought to himself. Alert and on his feet, he withdrew his arrow and nocked it on his bow. Extending the bow slightly priming it, Josh swiftly ran among the decks and awaited for them to close the distance. They were still far away, but he waited till he had his chance. It wasn't time to repel the boarders yet. Even Worthag was eager for an up and close fight which caused another eye roll from the Os Cavelerios.

Several gunfires rang out at the enemy as they returned it when they closed the distance. The Os Cavelerios was used to the gunfight. However, he preferred his own traditional composite bow and arrow. It was natural and easy to use. Pulling the string back, he released watching the arrow cut through the air. It hit the waters making a splash. They weren't close yet. Notching another arrow on his bow, he ducked into cover.

Nearby, a small explosion from within the ship was heard as the fire crackled along the floor planks. Sniffing smoke and inhaling the burning stench of metal, Josh growled. Ducking down into cover, he grabbed the nearby hose and shouted calmly, "What are you doing with a bucket and water? We have some primitive fire extinguishers and some hose stations. Follow my lead!"

Taking the hose, he aimed it at the direction of the fire and released his own torrent of water. Some boats and ancillary equipment that were set on fire was being hosed down. Josh had officially made himself part of the repair crew to keep the damages to the ship as low as possible. He wasn't a very good swimmer and as long as he wasn't thinking of it, he won't die with his last thoughts being seasick from just being on the seas.

The little ship's main gun kept up a steady barrage, scoring well placed hits both on and around the bridge. Yet despite that effort their enemy still managed to return fire, hitting his ship somewhere aft on the main super structure. He heard the shout of fire, there was nothing he could do about it for the moment. Lanam needed something, something critical to ravage the enemy, they had only one gun much the same as his own, if only.

What he realized then as Worthag suggested boarding the other vessel gave him an idea. Maybe not to board, perhaps draw in closer for a broadside. He still had plenty of power, the other vessel drawing slightly away to his own starboard side trying to get a better range on their ship. "Full power helmsman. Worthag, thank you." He called into the ship's tannoy loudly. "All hands, brace yourselves." His eyes met with Urzoth, she was enjoying this.

"We shall see lass. Hold on tight." He told her.

Shuddering and shaking the ship sped through the dark waves, breaking water over her bow in a spray that reached the bridge. The gap was closing rapidly, they were almost alongside their prey in minutes. "Commence fire!" He yelled through the tube to the gun room. Loud cracks soon followed, the flame belching from the muzzle of the gun on the foredeck. Once, twice, four times it fired as the two ships passed in the boiling seas.

The salvo was on target, only one round missed as their ship rocked. Lanam looked back rushing to the port lookout, all he saw was a burning wreck with the  stern of the enemy vessel starting to sink beneath the waves.

He rushed back into the bridge, a grim smile across his face. "Ease off on the helm, make for Merrenden." Lanam then collapsed on the deck, blood was streaming from his right side.

Urzoth grinned wickedly.  Yes, she was enjoying herself.  She was a warrior through and through.  Even though this was on a battle field that she wasn't familiar with she wasn't about to turn tail and run.  Hmm, it seemed Lanam had an idea if the look on his face was any indication.

Urzoth also heard the cry of fire and was about to sprint to help when Lanam shouted to brace yourselves.  She quickly found a spot to hold tight, not sure what he had planned, but she wasn't about to be thrown off her feet.  The two ships crashing into each other sent her into the side of the boat and she winced, but being a Borg she didn't go down.

She nearly cheered as their ship opened fire on their enemy.  once she was sure it was safe to move she ran to help put out the flames seeing as how she couldn't help with the guns.  She would be ready for hand to hand if the need arose.  It seemed the battle was over in the blink of an eye as the opposing ship was soon left sinking.  She shook her head a bit.  "Wow," she breathed. "This is some ship."  She looked up at Worthag and Lanam. "You both still living up there?"

As the fire lessened and soothed itself out via the steady stream of water from the hose, Josh turned the nozzle on the off switch. Feeling the sudden jerk movement from the ship, he looked up and stumbled forward with a jolt. Their ship had succeeded while leaving the enemy ship sinking. Despite his nausea, a side grin appeared on the side of his mouth as he knew they had won. Satisfied that the flames were dealt with, he ran up toward the bridge to see his friends.

Seeing Lanam bleeding and on the ground, Josh ran toward him with a shout, "Lanam! Is there anyone on the bridge a medic?" He wasn't much of a medical officer, but he knew some first aid. Dropping beside Lanam, he attempted to aid him.

Tor had helped with the hose once he realised what had needed to be done. It was a fair amount of work putting out the fires but it was all worth it when they passed the enemy vessel, flaming and burning it seemed they had made it through.

“Is Lanam alright?” Tor asked realising some commotion.

Worthag had enjoyed the glorious battle even if he hadn’t been given a chance to fight in a more personal setting.

“We’re living, for now.” he replied to Urzoth looking at Lanam.

Lanam seemed fine for a moment but then he collapsed, a gaping wound now revealing itself.

“Lanam!” he roared immediately rushing to help his friend.

“I know some traditional techniques, Urzoth assist me!” stripping the wound with a blade he checked for how bad it was.

Urzoth gasped in shock.  She darted up the steps when she saw Lanam collapse.  "How bad?" She asked, moving to help Worthag.   "Don't you dare give up on us," she growled.

She turned to the crew.  "Someone get in touch with the medics at Merraden.   Let them know we're coming. " she then ripped part of her shirt, moving to press the cloth against Lanam's side,  they needed to stop the bleeding.

During the time that had gone by since leaving the city port of H'agar Tesk, the engagement and subsequent removal of the original Captain, the valiant small war party had learned much. The name of the ship as translated 'Raven wing', the names of the crew remaining and their tasks and the general workings of the vessel. One of the principal jobs aboard the vessel was communications, generally there were three operators on board at any one time. Much to everyone's surprise and somewhat alarm it was found that those three sailors were among the crew ashore at the time when Lanam and his comrades captured the ship.

{Seaman Loc Dengal} NPC
They were more than relieved during the short but decisive battle to find out the youngest member of the old crew, apprentice Seaman Loc Dengal just seventeen was fairly well acquainted with most of the various departments of the Raven as his indenture required. After the wounding of Lanam, he was quickly coming to grips with getting the message out. He set an open frequency for the immediate area. "Merrenden base this is the captured ship Raven, calling Merrenden base. We have one serious wounded Captain General Lanam Banene, come in please!" He hoped his grasp of the local dialect was good enough.

Tor had continued to attend to assisting making sure the ship wouldn’t sink but he understood that something bad had occurred to Lanam and he had ran up to find Worthag leaning over him attempting to save his life from what seemed to be an extremely nasty wound.

Strapping on some bandages Worthag felt that he’d done all he could for now. “Urzoth watch over him.”

Worthag moved toward the radio where one of the ships crew was doing his best to make a communication. “Give me that.”

Worthag examined the radio, he’d heard of them but had never thought to learn to use one. “This is Chieftain Worthag, we have stolen one of these overglorified rafts and Lanam is not looking as good as he should so get off your horses and prepare for our arrival.”

{Seaman Loc Dengal} NPC

The half human half Forerunner as tall as the Borg chieftain himself watched with a degree of amusement on his face. "You need to press this to transmit." He explained touching the black button on the side of the hand device. He made his point, then delivered his reply. "Merrenden, we are aboard the Raven a Forerunner ship captured by Captain Lanam Banene of the Cavaleiros. He has been gravely wounded and we are yet still four hours from port, position twenty two degrees south of the estuary mouth, twenty five leagues west. Over."

Josh knelt beside Lanam as he listened to the radio conversation between the Seamen and Merrenden. They needed to get Lanam to the medical facility soon. It looked bad. Watching the action around him, he hung in there just in case they needed his help. Nothing else mattered.

"Hang on, Lanam. We're getting medical assistance soon." He reassured the fallen Os Cavelrios as he applied pressure to stem the flow of the blood from the wounded man. It didn't matter if there were blood on his hands. As long as he kept his hand over the covered wound, Josh applied pressure to keep Lanam alive a bit longer.

Urzoth growled under her breath.  She looked up at the crew.  "Is there any medicine or medical supplies on board?" She demanded, her large hand still on Lanam's side.  "Some one get me water and clean rags!" Men, why couldn't they do anything? Lanam needed real medical help, but right now he only had them.
