Atlantis base: Security office
« on: October 12, 2016, 01:47:43 AM »

The security office of Atlantis is housed on the main level, just below the gate room. Within its precinct are two cell rooms which have in the past housed various prisoners which naturally included Wraith. Major Even Lorne is the Officer in Charge of Security on Atlantis.

<<From 401>>

By the time Jordan, Valentine and the One reached the main spire they were met by four of the City's security detail. From there it didn't take long for them to find Lorne, as usual when not off world, writing reports et cetera in the front room of the Security office. Jordan met him once, two years ago when he had passed through the Alpha site. In the week he spent there they got on reasonably well in a professional manner. Before she entered, she spoke to the One. "You're on our turf now buddy, we have a habit of handing out names. Live with it."

"Major Lorne" She began. "Its good to see you again." She reached out her hand.

-The One-

He grinned to Jordan, as she explained her way of giving names. They should remember his name better, or The One would just go home. This place however, was quite interesting despite it's boring inhabitants. He could learn much from their technology… They surely had advantage in that thing. The One watched interested everything they passed.

Casey Hale

Casey had checked the manifest a few days prior to the new arrivals. It was something, he had been told, a lot of people do when people were due to arrive. He could understand - it was the same reason he was doing it - after six months with the same faces some new blood injected into the crew would bring a much needed refreshment. Casey had been largely solitary during his time on Atlantis. He had come as a part of the last arrivals and was a last minute addition to fill a specific job role they had failed to account for. His reconnaissance experience and previous service at the Alpha site was seen as a necessary skillset for upcoming operations out in the Pegasus Galaxy.

Casey heard his footsteps echo across the empty hallway as he paced through the lower depths of Atlantis. He had made the trip to the security office numerous times over his tenure to aid with rescue operations. The small room was cocooned away from others, Casey guessed, as a security measure to prevent access to the security console housed within though being below the gate room gave easy access for any incoming prisoners. The lights were dimmed in the hallway which indicated night was slowly falling outside - commands way of simulating a life cycle even though most people housed on Atlantis did little more than focus completely on their work. Dimming the lights was an attempt at keeping people’s sanity, promoting a healthy sleep pattern and easing the everyday worry that the enemy could be knocking at the door. It never worked.

Casey pressed against the pad to open the door which zipped open with an almost inaudible rush of air. He gazed inside the security office as his eyes adjusted to the brighter lights from inside. He hadn’t expected such a reception as he stepped forward gingerly. He searched the three faces and found the person he had come to see, quickly checked over the others in the room, and spoke.

“Ma’am,” Casey said. Jordan O’Neil, old XO of the Alpha Site when he served there. What she was doing here he had no idea but they had worked well together for a long while on the Alpha Site but that was years ago now. Having her onboard Atlantis was nothing but a good thing. “I heard you were coming over thought I’d offer a friendly face to welcome you.” He nodded slightly, almost apologetic for interrupting what she was doing. He offered a small smile that crept up the right side of his mouth as he nodded, he hands at his side. Although Atlantis was rather informal he had known O’Neil to treasure the rules and until he got the nod from her he would continue that tradition. "I hope your journey was easy enough?" He said, softly through his smile.

A slight glance up from his paper work allowed Evan to see the speaker clearly, his eyes brightened when he recognized the face. Shuffling his neatly hand written papers aside he stood without a word taking the outstretched hand warmly. "Commander O'Neil. I heard you were coming days ago, was there some delay?" He wasn't sure, although he thought that he saw a brief just a day ago referring to some kind of emergency the Dreadnought came across prior to her arrival.

Then as he was about to speak again, with one eye looking at a strange human like creature Jordan had with her along with obviously one of her team; Chief Hale entered the Security room not far behind. Evan had grown accustomed to the almost clairvoyant abilities the man possessed in the months he had been on Atlantis; he put that down to his other former occupation with the CIA. He was good, giving Evan an easy ride working with him. "Chief, glad you can join us. I had a hunch you know, some time ago you knew the commander here." Quite obviously, they were both SEALS, it was a small community after all. "So, am I to take it this erm, man is being handed over to me Jordan?" He knew he could be familar, there was only a hairs breath between them in rank.

Following to the security room he took his sweet time looking around indeed it seemed everything was rather advanced. He noticed that the one as he was called was extremely cocky and was a bit concerned about where he had come from.

"Maybe we could just take him to some other abandoned planet without a gate" he suggested figuring it would save them having to most likely feed him

Multi-tasking was all a part of a SEALS credentials, which is exactly what Jordan did. Clasping Lorne's hand firmly taking his greeting with the same warmth it was offered, even as she heard an all too familar voice behind her. She had business to do, yet she could not and would not ignore family; for that is what SEALS were, brothers and sister all of them, though she was the first 'sister' in that not too large a family. Letting Lorne's hand go tactfully she said quietly. "A moment if you would please Lorne."

Spinning on her heals she turned to confront 'that' voice, without even seeing Casey she knew who it was and the surprise on her face was genuine. "Well I'll be a friggin snot faced grunt!" One of her more favored terms of endearment to others. "Casey Hale, you gorgeous hunk of a human being....I didn't get the memo." With that she crossed the short distance to bear hug him. "Good, very good in fact." She replied again as she separated from him. Turning back to Lorne, making sure Valentine heard her, saw her actions. "We go back quite a while Major, quite a while." Nodding to Casey she whispered to him. "Catch up time bud. I take it there is a cafeteria somewhere here?" Then back again to Lorne, she was getting dizzy.

"He calls himself The One. I don't know much more Lorne other than he was rather vague about his origins and purpose. We found him on M3S-462, a wandering minstrel I don't think. So he's all yours." She took one step backwards, elbowing Valentine when she was level with him. "That was a thought that crossed my mind."

Casey Hale

Casey couldn’t help but smile as O’neil approached and embraced him. It had been a long few years since their last encounter and time tends to change people. The hug was warm, friendly. Casey’s softer side wasn’t something many experienced, his tendency to rely on a separation to avoid awkward conversations about his past made a lot of people wary about confiding in him. If they knew the truth behind the distance, he knew, most would avoid his gaze even more. The pain held behind his eyes masked under a military front of strength and reassurance. Casey had served under O’neil and she was someone he trusted with his life but still found himself unable to confide his most darkest secrets to her even in the foxholes they had found themselves in during their time together on the Alpha Site.

"Aye sir, nose to the grind stone as always." Casey glanced over to Major Lorne, offering a small apologetic frown that spread across his mouth. He was probably a little too involved in the comings and goings than perhaps the security chief would have liked. He didn't just enjoy knowing everything - from the broad sweeping changes where he served to the tiniest of minutiae of each persons role - he craved it. Years spent on recon and intelligence had driven in a need to be more aware of his surroundings and to know enough to try and predict where a tipping point may occur and his skills may be required.

“Commander, it’s great to see you!” He said, his eyes turning back to O'Neil, looking her over as he stepped back a slight after the hug. She was still the strong, defiant woman he remembered from their service together. Heck, she was legendary amongst all SEALs, paving a way and breaking down the gender bias kicking and screaming. Even amongst the SOG she was often discussed, her prowess as a warrior and concerns over women on the frontline. She proved them all wrong every single day and, in her own way, each day she served and succeeded was a kick in the gut of the old, obstinate establishments that refuse to change their ways. “I never thought they would pry you away from the Alpha Site, what brings you to Atlantis?”

Evan let the moment take shape for what it was worth, he of all people knew that very same feeling that came when you found, or met up with folks, teammates you hadn't seen for ages. It was special, something only the military family could appreciate.

"Ahem." He uttered, clearing his throat when he felt it was the right moment. "So I've noticed Chief. Very well then Commander." Pausing, Evan stood from the desk. "Leave him to me, you two should go get some catch up while you can, I hear there is something coming up so take whatever opportunity you can." He didn't miss the young PFC with Jordan either. Evan tilted his head just so in his direction. "You had better go with the Commander, Private. I can take care of our guest." While he had been speaking earlier, a button pressed under his desk brought two SF's in. "Escort our 'guest' to the cell if you would please."

After giving that last order, Evan directed his attention to The One. "Its just a security precaution until we can establish who you are and what your intentions are, I'm sure you understand."

Not one for having been told twice in any instance she could recall, Jordan took the dismissal from Lorne in good spirit since she wasn't yet 'officially' ensconced in Atlantis, for the moment she was the guest until either Sheppard or Woolsey had placed her and her team. Which for the moment was kind of small, just a team of three. "Thank you Major I think I will do just that." A quick quarter turn on one heel brought her back face to face with Casey. Valentine to her left.

"You know Chief, some things never change. You've heard that saying haven't you?" She was more than sure he was well acquainted with the old adages, just as anyone would be. "Well I'm about to break those boundaries of change. In a word, my time was up there at the Alpha Site. Done." That was several words but who's counting. "Once General Chalmers left a new guard was in order, I felt I needed to get some fresh air, a new horizon on life. Plus I was feeling held back, not so much in Command, you know I don't give a damn about that...no just having to do something a little more constructive. Oh and by the way, this is PFC John Valentine, he's one of the team I brought with me. The other, an Eltee is somewhere else on the base, hopefully with Woolsey."

There were times when you'd struggle to get six words out of Jordan in one sentence. Today wasn't that day. She also realised she and her boys had to retrieve their gear from the Dread, settle into quarters and a million other things. "Listen Case, I need to get my bags from the ship, how'd you like a quick nickel and dime tour?" That would at least kill two birds.

Casey Hale

“Thank you, sir.” Casey said to Major Lorne, his voice softened slightly, more at ease with those more senior around him. His enlisted status, he found, could be a bit of a hinderance to socializing with the higher ranks at times. Although Atlantis was about as relaxed as any base he had experienced in his long career there were still some military traditions that held firm even all this way out in the Pegasus galaxy.

“I get it,” Casey narrowed his eyes slightly, wanting to read into the situation a little more. He was unsure if she had just spun him a line or her need for a change was genuine but, either way, the middle of a crowded security office wasn’t the place for such discussions. “Well if you’re looking for constructive you’ve definitely come to the right place.” He paused, looking to the doorway that held firmly shut, his natural instinct to always be facing an exit was something he grew up with. As a child he couldn’t sleep without a door in sight or sit anywhere in solitude without the knowledge the door was close. He didn’t know why and in truth his predilection had only aided him during his military career.

“Valentine,” Casey nodded to the young PFC, offering out his right hand that opened with his palm slanted upwards slightly. Valentine looked experienced, a couple of tours overseas he would have guessed and maybe some time under his belt in the Stargate program before being shipped out to the middle of nowhere. Casey surmised this quickly after only a second of looking at Valentine. Not because of some supernatural sense he possessed but sheer common sense. Seeing a PFC with high enough clearance to be sent to Atlantis meant a lot of experience or friends in high places. Valentine didn’t look like a man that took that many free handouts - that was something Casey could tell.

“Well then, Commander, looks like you’re going to get the Hale special,” He smiled, trying not to sound too tragic while he turned his head back to O’Neil. Casey wasn’t one for tours though had spent the majority of his free time wandering the hallways so supposed he could show a little of everything should the Commander be so inclined. “After you Ma’am,” Casey said, waving his hand out to his right as he spun gently on the ball of his right boot to allow O’Neil room to move, he stepped one step over and tapped the door control to open it and stood at the side waiting for O’Neil to pass.

Upon being called up by Major Lorne, both Dinozzo and Kermis approached the unusual alien. They also noticed the new member of Atlantis and several other people. They were simple security grunts. Sure, they get the memo but its not their business to know everyone. Right now, they had a duty to do given by Lorne.

Looking at the one who called himself "The One", Alf and Levi stared at him. Levi gave a sidelong glance and whispered, "He's the guy we have to escort to the cell? Who does he call himself again?"

Alf caught his friend's comment and looked at him. He shook his head and shrugged as he retorted, "Thought you were supposed to know everything, Corporal. You're the one with the gene, not me. I'm just an Italian grunt."

Levi glared at him as Alf turned back to The One. He spoke showing him the way as he responded to Lorne, "Will do boss. This way, umm," he paused as he racked his brains to find something to call The One something else, "Kirk."

Levi stared at him and mumbled as he stood the other side to let The One through, "Kirk?"

Alf responded as he whispered back, "Yes. Kirk. What about it? I'm not calling him "The One" because then people will be confused if he was the one we found or not. It is such a confusing term to a specific person in a very general or broad specific way." Alf paused for a minute and silently cursed to himself as he muttered, "Damn, I'm confused."

Levi exhaled an exasperated sigh as he spat back quietly, "Yes, but Kirk is Star Trek. You're calling him after a Star Trek captain?"

Alf paused for a bit and stared at his friend. With a thoughtful face, he inquired plainly, "What is Star Trek?"

Levi silently groaned as he mentally facepalmed, but elected to remain silent as Alf shrugged and poked The One on his back, responding, "To the cell, Kirk!"

Silently, Alf grinned. He always wanted to say that and he finally got the chance to. The two Security SFs waited for "The One" to move to his destination until Major Lorne tells them otherwise.

One of the things Lorne loved about his job was the characters he worked with; Kermis and DiNozzo being two of his favorites at least in his department. He always found himself chuckling at their interaction, much as he would if he was watching some old comedy duo from the past. This time was no exception when they led their 'detainee' away. Taking up his little Ipad, he followed them to the cell, the questioning would certainly be 'interesting'.

Levi stared at "The One" within the security cell as the force field was raised. Alf came from behind him as he inquired, "How's Kirk?"

Levi stared at him and exhaled with a question, "Are we really going to call him that?"

Alf shrugged with a grin. Levi sighed shaking his head as he rolled his eyes with a mutter, "Well, I'm not going to call him by the rank of Captain."

"What was that?" Alf inquired sharply with a goofy face.

Levi looked at him and shook his head responding, "Nothing. He's just," he paused looked at the Hybrid alien looking at him with hunger. He shuddered with discomfort as he finished his sentence, "Staring..."

Alf responded as he returned to his mock serious expression and motioned toward it, "Well then, win the staring contest. You can do it!"

Alf grinned as Levi exhaled shaking his head. His expression remained serious as he stared back at the creature. Alf turned and faced the doorway as he returned to his seriousness while standing to attention. His boss should be coming around shortly.

While the shenanigans were occurring with their 'guest' Lorne took a little of his time to listen to the base radio chatter. The hair on the back of his neck went up on hearing Sheppard had a 'thing' going on to some remote Moon or some such. "Not without me." He mumbled. "DiNozzo, Kermis. Let him stew for a while, go get geared up then meet me in the gateroom in ten minutes." With that out, he promptly left for his quarters to change.

On that order, Levi turned around and walked out as Alf responded, "Yes boss."

When Levi turned and walked out while Alf returned to his normal seriousness, they knew it was time to work as they followed Lorne out. They went to the opposite direction toward the gear up room to dress up for the mission. It might be fun, quick change of pace even for a bit.
