Lennox Thornton - Ranger
« on: January 16, 2017, 04:58:08 PM »

Full Character Name: Lennox Wren-Lloyd Thornton
Date of Birth: (36) Dec 9, 1989
Place of Birth: London, UK
Job at the Shatterdome: Ranger
Military Rank: N/A

Appearance: He stands at 6'0", with short ginger hair and green eyes. In recent years, he has begun to fill out with the strenuous task of fighting kaiju. Though not known for smiling - more so for his personality - he does have dimples.

Lennox does not go much outside the kit issued by the PPDC, often simplifying it through his trousers and shirt. The dog tags were of his biological mother's, her time spent in the military before being KIA'd. Despite his arrogant and rather hot-headedness, Lennox does show a lot of care for his looks, ironing his clothing and often keeping to saluting his seniors.

Personality: A young boy, having already suffered the 'loss' of his biological parents at four months of age may not appear to have suffered much of a huge loss, but Lennox has. It is mostly sub-conscious, things that he does not think of - mainly because he fears what would come if the flood barriers opened; the fear of being abandoned, the fear of losing someone he has grown close to and the fear of attachment. All this combines and his defense mechanism tends to swing in the different direction; pushing people away from him.

His adoption into the Thornton family had not been a step forward nor was it a step backwards. His siblings had been older than him at the time, and being the only ginger in the family, lest to say, Lennox got picked on a fair portion of his life. They were rather a strict household, bending him backwards for the smallest of things, which ultimately ended up backfiring on the family.

Lennox rebelled, and perhaps stayed in his rebellious phase, knowing that no one could hurt him. He was a bully, if only to hide the softer inner side of him that never really fully developed. Emotionally, he's difficult to interpret as he hides behind a hairpin trigger response for his anger and blocks off any attempt at fully forming relationships. Sarcasm has become his best friend, from the time he was left to fend for himself on the streets up to when he'd joined up to enlist into the PPDC ranks.

Skills:

  • Different forms of martial arts picked up over the course of his time on Kodiak Island; MMA, BJJ, Judo, etc. (He mainly specializes in a mixture of them, calling it 'street fighting.')
  • Quick reflexes picked up from his time both as a homeless boy on the streets and of the time he spent in the PODDs and simulations.
  • Sarcasm, well-versed in the art of pushing people away and hiding his real feelings.

History: Born on a cold, bitter winter's night, Lennox was the only child of a military woman and an unknown father; the only memory he had of them was of the dog tags across his neck. He was put in an orphanage, and left there before being adopted at four months old.

Lennox does not remember much, but the family that he was brought into became his world. There were major differences between him and his family; being the only ginger certainly made him stand out and was not widely accepted by his five siblings (three adopted, two half). Some were still suffering from wanting to be the main attention of their parents, they often took out their frustration on the 'new kid on the block.'

Unknown to them, this had a profound effect on Lennox.

He was a quiet kid growing up, in school, he would play the teacher's pet but as he grew older and his peers grew critical of him, something switched. Lennox turned from the thin kid to the bully, and that was when his 'self-confidence' grew. He got into fights; both with his parents, siblings and those that came into contact with him.

It was age 15 when he got thrown from the household, having been a month into their move to Australia, and left to scavenge the streets. Lennox became engulfed in the wrong crowd, got into stealing and got nicked by the police. Being that once returned to the front steps of the Thornton's, they wanted nothing to do with him. He remembers the look that they had given him as he was pushed back into the police van.

Lennox spent a few years in juvenile before being allowed to go free into the world. Hitting 18, he had little else to do, and so, remained homeless. He drifted from homeless shelter to homeless shelter. This was where he really learned to fight, from little scraps to a man taking him into the underground boxing ring that he had run for many years.

K-Day.

Kaiju began emerging out of the water. It was really the fighter within him, the deep in-grained fight or flight reflex, that caused him to sign up to the PPDC. He was terrified of the beast from below, and with no safety net and nothing to lose, he joined the cause. It was that or building the anti-kaiju wall. Lennox wanted, ultimately, to prove his worth to his parents and to do something worthwhile of his life. The Academy caused him to be pushed to his limits, his breaking point before being brought all the way back down again.

His stubbornness and hot-headed behavior did not win him any merits, but certainly, his willingness to fight and was drift compatible was something they had to take into consideration.

Soon, Lennox found himself placed in the position of piloting Striker Eureka.

Life is a dream — of pain and woe.
A dream from which — we pray to wake.
A dream from which — we wake and go
