Corbin Walsh, pilot

"Don't call me 'kid'," Corbin lightly growled at Fred after glaring at him.

After listening to the both of them, Corbin sighed while thumbing his forehead. Shaking his head, he shrugged, "Alright. I'm sorry. Just voicing my thoughts. Shows what I know."

After ranting, Corbin felt slightly uncomfortable and a bit embarrassed.

Komado Class Mid Bulk Transport

{Fred Rivers}

"I will call you kid till you learn more about the naughty side of the verse." he laid a drink on his chest fingerbin the bottle neck to stop it fizzing up.
"Till then. Have a drink and fly us straight and true." he added. Before glancing to Cassie.
"Unless you have an issue with the officers idea."

Komodo Class Mid Bulk Transport
{Cassie Foster}

Cassie took another swig before shaking her head.

"Enough, both of you. Ain't just run from one fight to have another. And let's not go naming this boat after the War. I dunno, Starchaser or something that ain't too obvious to who runs this thing. Ain't keen on naming it on a name of some lady of our past, ain't much good if only one of us knows who she meant." Cassie stood up.

"Well, we should take better stock of our situation. Fred, go on down to the cargo hold. Best we know now if the recently departed Luther had any bits of precious we don't want the Feds knowin' we have laying about. See if one of the more talkative former crew know of any hidin' places, too. Best we know what's in the hold if we have to hock it for money." She glanced to Corbin, "Meanwhile, Corbin, you hop on the Cortex, see if any news is up about the station yet. Should likely see it as a disaster zone if it even pops up. Also keep an eye on the sensors, if the Reavers came to Pratchett, no tellin' how far they've decided to go huntin'."

"I'm gonna poke around the quarters and mess, see what we have in the way of supplies and provisions. Best if we don't get ridin' too high on this wave only to find we're gonna starve." She said.

There were no reports of a missing Komodo class transport on the cortex, some conspiracy theorists on the wave though were reporting the vessel as missing, having done a little bit of searching into the public record of the Pratchett Station Administrator. But almost all their ideas were the Alliance Blew it up and don’t want to admit it. But the Alliance were still claiming an unknown incident had happened at Pratchett services and the station was lost with all hands and docked vessels and that they had assigned the Cruiser Perry to investigate.

As the new three-man crew searched the ship, they found it had a lot of battle scars from its time as a Browncoat Gun Boat, but she had also received a lot of TLC from Administrator Hakeswill. The old man had been a very wealthy man a few years ago, hailing from a core world with a prominent family name. But he had joined the Browncoat’s during the war though from the core he didn’t agree with them ruling everything. Some said he joined because he wanted to play soldier, others because the Alliance wouldn’t let him buy a commission, the truth seemed to be, he honestly believed in the cause. He had been made a Major in Independent High Command in charge of procurement, because he had the money, and one of his jobs was to help the Independence Forces budget and pay for the Komodo class ships they would refit into gunships.

As Fred and Cassie explored the vessel it was clear to see that Hakeswill wasn't an idiot. Or even cruel. The Mess was on the deck just below the bridge it took up most of the desk with a kitchen area, a lounge area and a dining room. There was a grand oak table and matching blush leather chairs, though the kitchen was more stocked as if it were a bar, in the back of the high shelves there were nutrition rations. The lounge area had three sofa's and some games to the side, mostly card games on a shelve with a screen in the corner to watch the latest news wave. Along the back wall were a few decorations, prized possessions of Hakeswills. A 3rd Generation Lassiter laser pistol. Not as sought after as the original that was now in a private collection the 3rd Generation had been made almost 50 years after the original and was merely a copy of the ascetics from the fabled relic. Of course Hakeswill had mounted it so that the markings that gave it away as an cheap impostor couldn’t be seen by his guests, along with a selection of bladed weapons, mostly curved sword of an Asian design in several different lengths and colours, and apparently a first production Callahan full bore marksman rifle. The thing was the grandfather to most of the Callahan Full Bore Auto Lock range. Though like the knock off Lassiter this was likely a fake of some sort. Clearly Hakeswill had a little bit of a vain streak. Especially after spending all his money to try to rebuild Pratchett Station.

On the deck below there were the crew accommodations. 7 rooms. Four on one side, three on the other with the offset staircase down from the mess with a small seating area and oddly enough a potted tree in the place of where an 8th room would be. Down the hall there was a sealed door that led to a ladder that ran down to Engineering and the rear of the Cargo bay, but the hall also extended to a rear air lock and access to the two shuttles. Each shuttle was your standard fare, nothing overly special though one did seem to be a little older than the other given the recorded flight time on the controls and the worn seat upholstery. Each room had a similar design about three by four meters with a central saleable door, with a number pad to lock the door to the side. In each room there was a 'water cubical' in the corner. About a meter by meter square which could be curtained off that held a shower, as well as a sink that could be pulled out from the wall and a toilet that folded out like was seen on most mid-bulk freighters.

Three rooms were lived in. One was clearly Luther’s. a little Spartan but also messy, cluttered. Luther was the sort of man to set up a rigged shotgun whilst he slept, his wardrobe was all the same Alliance inspired jackets with false insignia he slept on a single bed with grey sheets, a small display case held some books and data pads and a few weapons. of course, under his bed was a box, full of 'personal' items. things he liked which he had stolen. Even women’s underwear from companions he had liked a little too much, and there was a bit of horrific reading in his diary which explained how he revealed in manipulating an old man, strong armed docking ships for extra money and even several murders he had committed, and of course like any criminal he had some of his other prizes mounted to the wall. Pistols. Nice ones, some laser, some sonic and some projectile each with custom holsters hanging under them, it was clear to see where the laser pistol he had tried to attack Cassie with earlier had been taken from that morning. The next room was Hakeswills. More luxurious that Luther's the walls were painted a nice blue colour, with paintings on the wall’s cupboards surrounded the walls holding books on art and science. And he even had a large fish tank full of goldfish, about eight of them the tank had a pump and a broken model of a Firefly ship in it surrounded by fake plants for the fish to interact with. Hakeswill wasn’t as paranoid as Luther, but he was still cautious a compact Semi Auto pistol sat on his nightstand by his bed. The last room was the pilots. Still nice but not as lavish as Hakeswill's, but not as grim as Luther’s. There were nick knacks on shelves. a wardrobe of clothes and a workspace where he had a pair of glasses in the midst of being repaired. The last four rooms on this desk were bunk rooms. Each room had four single beds and 4 lockers, clearly designed to transport Hakeswill's private guard.

Down a central staircase to the balcony area. the Balcony housed two small guest rooms they had a shared washroom though each room had its own sink and a single bed that could pull out to be a double. A small medical bay that was stocked with the highest quality medicines money could buy, though the tools were a little old, and there were draws of charts for all the people on Hakeswill's pay role. Behind these two was the large engine room. Best described as short and wide, though it was tidy it was clear that some of the parts had been jury rigged, they had just been done so neatly. There was another small seating area here that had another large potted plant. And instead of a bulkhead with a central door leading to a balcony that overlooked the cargo bay, it was wide open giving a view out to the cargo bay, on the sides of the balcony there were lockers that held space suits and a few weapons. There were other lockers like them all around the ship though this floor had the largest collection of them. On the balcony there was a control station that would command a small overhead crane that was mounted to the roof to make moving cargo around easier for the crew and a staircase on each side leading down to the cargo floor. With a larger section in front and a lower section under that level. Finally, there was the cargo bay a large cavernous space with the typical system of a ramp with a standard airlock door in it that would have to be pulled open and a pair of sliding doors behind it where they had entered the station from. On the floor there was hatch along with various points around which things could be mounted or tied down too.

Whitefall
Komodo Class Mid Bulk Transport[/b]
Cargo Bay

Fred Rivers

Whitefall was not the place Fred had been to a year ago, what was once feuding families had now spread to a planet wide feud, they weren’t waring yet, but it would only take a spark. It had gotten to the point where the Alliance had stepped in. Though it was clear to see this was low on their list of priorities. When Corbin had brought the ship in to land he had been contacted by a central control demanding that they land at one of the assigned landing areas close to one of the three larger settlements on the moon Fred had directed them to the city of Dannatt where he knew he had a few friends. Thankfully the Alliance appeared to have only assigned a company's worth of people to the planet, a platoon per city, typical alliance strategy, start small hope people get in line. Though these soldiers didn’t look like the typical alliance forces from the war, light brown all weather jackets, white trousers that looked to be repurposes from some other old uniform with standard black boots, they also had their normal armour though it was painted tan and instead of helmets they had caps though some carried helmets on their gear, others had scarfs some had goggles, and they all looked to be a little dirty the typical sign of having been on a patrol. Fred had seen them before. Though lots of Alliance forces kept the grey uniforms throughout, others improvised though he was sure each soldier of the alliance was charged for securing replacement gear because what was issued wasn’t up to the task. Though it was far from Standard Alliance Tactics and that worried Fred as there was likely some bright commander, who though may not be looking for them, could catch them out.

He stood on the ramp of the Komodo watching the four-man patrol walk around the landing pad. Which was nothing more than a field cleared of debris. He noticed an Alliance Lieutenant and Corporal approach. Once they had gotten the call Fred had dumped his brown coat and all, but his revolver and he stood in the cargo bay with the two prisoners. Of course, they didn’t look like prisoners and Fred had made it clear if they told the Feds about the fact, they stole the ship Fred would also tell the Feds that they had gunned down innocent civilians. He had also armed them. Small revolvers from a weapons locker in one of the compartments he had checked though after Cassie had ordered him to talk to the two about finding hidden compartments, there were a few though all were empty apart from one in Engineering where the two pistols had been. That had how most of his search had gone, lots of nothing, apart from a shipment of stolen semi auto rifles. Though when giving them the guns, Fred had made sure they weren’t loaded. He wasn’t about to send these kids out there defenceless, but he wasn’t going to be stupid either.

"State Your Business?" Asked the Corporal as the officer behind him wrote down a tag for the vessel. Fred turned to him and nodded playing dumb, no need to raise suspicion.
"Afternoon officer. Just dropping off a few passengers in the area for work and we needed the coin to keep our ship running." The man nodded and then turned to the prisoners.
"Welcome to Whitefall. Stay out of trouble." And with that he stuck a laminated tag on the side of the ramp and walked away, Fred checked it as the two kids slowly left. Just simple information Ship class: Komodo, a registration, Purpose: passenger transport, and the time and date of their arrival. Fred nodded as he turned back and walked inside, he decided to keep the front ramp open not to look suspicious, he did though close the secondary doors before he headed up to the Mess to speak to the others.
"So. We're here and the Alliance didn’t try to arrest me, so I think we are clear. But there is a lot of crap on this boat we don’t have a great deal of a need for. Plus. I am sure a stolen ship will get us noticed sooner or later. So. We can speak to a local I know, she was the head of one of the family's here, former mayor of one of the cities. See if she has a Komodo class we can borrow the name and registration of, plus we could sell her some of the stuff that used to belong to the previous owners." Luther’s body was wrapped up tightly in one of the morgue drawers in the medical bay as a former Independence ship it had two fitted in the deck in case casualties died on the table.
"Plus seeing as we don’t look like we'll be flying around freely to dump Luther’s body in a pond somewhere. She could help us with that too."

Komodo Class Mid Bulk Transport
{Cassie Foster}

Cassie had changed attire, to one of a white button up shirt, jean pants, and a rugged black vest, which went along with her brown boots, black cowboy hat, and a red bandanna tied around her neck. For the moment, she only openly carried her Dragoon pistol, but the holdout piece was on her, just out of sight.

"We best go talk to her sooner rather than later." Cassie said as she habitually flipped open the Dragoon's loading gate and ratcheted the cylinder by hand around to verify she had in fact reloaded it several hours ago. She flicked the gate shut again and tucked the large pistol back into her holster.

"I'm thinkin' she's gonna want either plenty of money or services rendered before she'll give us what we want. Corbin, whatever ID we get, I want you to run it and make sure she don't give us something that upgrades us from "Maybe Looked For By The Feds" to "Definitely Being Looked For By The Feds"." Cassie explained.

As she approached the ramp to look out and see what kind of place Whitefall was, she got a strange feeling at the back of her neck. Something was setting off her proverbial sixth sense and she couldn't figure it out for the life of her. Unconsciously, her hand had rested onto the grip of her pistol before relaxing.

"...at any rate. Fred, let's go talk to your contact. Corbin, you too. We ain't exactly flush with people, so until we find more help, likely we're gonna all need to chip in on getting the work done around here." Cassie continued after a moment of consideration.

Corbin Walsh

Gotcha," Corbin responded while walking alongside the ramp and spoke to Cassie, "I'll keep an eye on that."

Looking at both Cassie and Fred, he added, "So, I guess. For the moment, we are sticking together? I guess, let's go see her then." He wondered what Fred's contact would look like or what her personality would be.

Whitefall
Dannatt 'Space Port'

Fred Rivers

Fred had decided to leave his Semi Auto pistol behind he had claimed one of the guest quarters, unofficially. Which simply meant he had stored his stuff in there for now. He had though added the small snubed nose pistol he had taken from the Service Station in a holster on the back of his belt, the holster had been taken from Luthers collection He was sure to board Alliance Soldiers a man with two full sized pistols would be a red flag, it used to be for him when he was a Transport Copper, not that he was often bored at the Evesdown Docks, But it happened sometimes.

"Well... I'm hoping right now she'll take some of those guns we rounded up and the fact she owe's me a favour." He decided to leave out the part where she disagreed that she owed him anything. "But if your still sure you dont want those defence guns. We could sell those to her." He was referring to the eight miniguns that were housed on each thruster strut. four sets of two, not an issued feature on the Komodo but likely added by Luther to stop people looking to his ship for safe harbour.
He then looked to Corbin and held out one of the Long Slide Black Polymer pistols for him. "Here. you got seventeen shots. We'll pick you up a spare mag or two when we come across them."
Once he had handed over the pistol he made his way over to the console by the door. He had taken his time with reprogramming all of the locks on the ship. The outer door was now coded to 1114, not a unique code. He had actually picked it off a serial number from a create in the cargo hold. But it meant they could lock the door behind them and leave the ship unattended. He made sure to add the 7 round gas seal revolver to the underside of the console fitted with a home made suppressor, just incase when they returned to the ship, it was under less than ideal circumstances. He had learnt it from Load Masters from Komodo's in Browncoat service. Though they normally strapped a SMG next to the console instead of hiding it. Seeing as the assigned storage area for the load masters personal defence weapons was in a locker on the balcony with the crane controls.

Once he was sure it was safe he waited for the other two to exit the cargo hold and locked up the ramp, the four man patrol had moved on but towards the make shift control centre the Corporal who had placed the tag on their ship glanced to the group and frowned but did nothing.

...

Once in to the actual city, that wasnt much more than a large town typical for a rim world or moon, wooden buildings some prefabs, well lots of prefab housing. Lots of wheeled cars instead of hovering transports.
"Well... I guess we're best off heading to a bar and seeing if anybody knows where Patience is." He said with a small shrug. "Dont go getting in to fights though, or blurting out her name. Some people might not take kindly to people looking for her." He glanced over his shoulder to see a local marshal standing by a supply store. Not technically alliance but the Alliance did pay them to enforce the law. "Plus I dont want to be bringing our former collegues to her door." He added as he looked to Cassie. "But keep your shooters to hand, and keep your eyes peeled."
