"Excuse me for a moment Kylee, Lieutenant. Anise, Malcolm, a word in private please." Sam left the table walking towards the CO's office stopping near the door just far enough away out of earshot from the two younger women. Anise and Barrett followed without question.

"Well what do you both think? More so Anise is she telling the truth?" Sam was somewhere between 60/40 in thinking she was.

Not convinced Malcolm let his feelings known. "Sam you've cut me off and I get it. But how sure can we be really, we've seen some very good and convincing ruses before haven't we? With all we face right now Sam we've got to be careful." A plead for caution, that was understandable.

Anise wasn't going to go against what she saw, as much as it might pain Barrett to know the facts, that was all she could give. "She's telling the truth this much I can say. I am trying to imagine what she must have been through with Ba'al and I for one don't think we should harm her any further by making her bring it back. We've learned enough Samantha, I don't feel there is any more to be gained in pushing her deeper."

Sam was nodding her head up and down at this point, it made sense. "We can't have someone with her 24 hours a day, that would be counter productive and yes Malcolm we will be careful. Lieutenant Khoury is due for promotion and she has proven herself a good leader often taking over for Captain Fox when the need arose. We'll give her SG-21 for the moment as Captain Taylor will be on family leave for the next 3 months; Kylee can be attached with them to see how she does in that capacity. After all we didn't ask much more of Teal'c did we?" Both of them shook their heads, Sam turned around without moving. "Kylee, you'll be with us for a while yet it seems. We're going to put you into the care of SG-18 for the time being, you will act as a team member accordingly and if you pass through that and you wish to stay with us, you'll have a home here."

She had her head in her hands while they talked, the memories running through her head again, causing more a headache than anything.  It was possible she was just repressing the memories, but at some level, she imagined, Ba'al must have done something to her.   Once they were done talking, she turned her head up to hear what Sam had to say.  SG-18?  Yeah.  Okay.    She was familiar with them, worked out pretty well, the last time. "Okay." She said, exhaling.    "If it's okay I'd like to... give sleeping an honest college try."    Without trying to jump ship.

"Uh, ma'am if it's alright I'd like to talk to you."
Harwood asked, standing up.   This time she was going to have an SF escort Kylee.  Heh.   She gestured towards the office.  Once Kylee had taken her leave with the SF, back to her quarters, Harwood turned to Sam.

"Is there anyway we could somehow, some day, get my family cleared to know what's going on?  I know it's a long shot and I'm out of line for asking, but... it's more for her sake than mine.  Otherwise I'm just wondering what I should do.  This is out of my depth.  Obviously I don't expect special treatment I'm just trying to sort this out, how to make this work."

"Sure." She said, not one to deny her people some face to face time Sam had Anise and Malcolm scoot for the Cafeteria for no other reason than to be alone with Kylee.

When Harwood returned Sam wasn't quite sure what had to be spoken about in private at this present time, these kids always had something on her mind so it wasn't all that surprising when it came out. Thinking about it for a few moments in silence with her hand under her chin, the answer might not have been what Kylee expected to hear. Normally this type of request in the past would get a firm no, there had been precedents and this was a special case. Joe Spencer, how could Sam forget. "Kylee, I'm going to give you a tentative yes, though I am sure you're aware that it will have to get past General Landry and possibly the NID. I can't predict the future but I can tell you this, the Stargate Program Treaty as it is now runs out in a few weeks and some of the more how shall we say, more aggressive nations want the Program to go public sooner than later. So its really six of one and half a dozen of the other isn't it?" She leaned against the wall. "Your folks are still in Minnesota aren't they?"

That answer brightened Kylee's face a bit, and she shifted her stance to a more relaxed one, she then considered the consequences of that.   There was a lot to talk about, especially given the other girl's status among them.    "Yeah, Minnesota.  They're split up but both still within spitting distance of each other if you get my meaning." She offered an exasperated smile as though to say everything is fine, her domestic issues are few and far between.  Separated parents, an aimless brother with high functioning autism on occasion has issues with her not being able to be there for him, her mother's general worry for her in her occupation.   It's no big deal.

"I'm not sure if I'd clue in my mom yet.  My dad's a safe bet for sure.  If the program does go public then I'll probably be able to tell them anyway.  And it's not like it has to be right now either, it's just her being alone seems like a bad move. Otherwise my only concern is keeping her powers in check, but I really do believe she's got good intentions though I may well be biased. "

One of the things about being in Sam's position was she was much like Woody from Toy Story, she knows everything. While she wasn't about to reveal that fact when Kylee mentioned that tidbit about her family, Sam politely smiled a half smile that said basically she was sorry that had to happen. Family wasn't something she delved into too deeply of late, hers hadn't exactly been fringed with confetti either, so she moved on to the facts. Palms down on the table she voiced her concern. "I and I suppose our other Kylee would be, grateful for your efforts Lieutenant but at the same time I don't want this to be a distraction for you either. We still have Ba'al out there and it is highly possible that you may well be doing something connected to our search for him so please bear that in mind." She stood back for a second, tapping her lip with a finger. "Listen, it's almost 1600 and you'll be knocking off for the day, why don't you use that time to get her settled in and we'll see what tomorrow brings. In the meantime I'm having dinner tonight with General's O'Neill and Landry, I'll bring it up to them..." those powers, yes that could be a problem down the line. "...I believe she has good intentions, we can though for our own sake just keep an eye on her okay?"

"I understand.  I may have bitten off a little more than I can chew.   Can't imagine it was that easy when Doctor Carter showed up either, huh?"  Okay so she may have heard about SG-1's greatest hits.   She gave a thin smile at what was said and nodded.  No rest for the weary, not even a little.  "Ma'am I'm thinking about taking off early if you'll allow it.   I'd like to solve the parent trap situation asap."  She made a point by tugging on a lock of her hair.  "After I get her settled, that is."

"It's about time I cut it anyway, hat hair is a nightmare.   Let's just hope that I don't end up fulfilling the mini-carter prophecy I keep hearing." She makes a show of rolling her eyes to emphasize her humor.   "Any blond with a tech degree, right?"

A wry smile crossed Sam's face, she knew exactly where Kylee was coming from, a case of been there done that. "Every now and then we are faced with having done that Kylee, on the one hand it is part of being a woman as you may have noticed we do have a tendency to do that far more than men do. It's that inner maternal instinct, that protective shield we need to put around people we feel vulnerable." Having the alternate Sam and Kalowski here all those years ago did put a few things in perspective, then to have a room full of herself widened her eyes even more so. "The first time wasn't no. In fact it was heartbreaking but that became more bearable in my mind three years ago when it happened again. That event even had a fun side to it and you know, maybe you can find that in all of this don't you think?"

She leaned back on the table edge. "That's the idea kid, just don't leave the base before 1600 hours, other than that your work day is done." Never missing much that smile widened. "Don't worry if you change your mind it'll grow back; you'll have to take that up with Major Hailey, I think she is still trying to claim that title." And Sam imagined there were more than a few at the Academy lining up. "Competition is good for you by the way and please don't mention that if ever you see McKay, we'll never hear the end of it. Now go on Lieutenant and I'll see you at 0730 sharp."

"I think I can still resist fawning at an infant a little." She scrunched her nose up to imply it was a weakness for her.  "Just barely."  Anyway, she mulls that over.   Especially as the bit about the SGC going public sinks in.  "My mom always wanted another girl.  Of course I think this might be something we're gonna have to ease them into."

"Fun will come after everything is smoothed out. And Colonel, you realize by Early I mean fashionably late, right?    Even if I have no more obligations today I left a compiling program on and I probably should finish that before I leave.  But now-- domestic duties await."   She said glibly and snorted at Carter's remark.    "I'll be honest I'll be totally fine with bowing out to Hailey.  Even if I did end up being the one to echo your dimensional shenanigans." She grinned sheepishly and offered a salute.

"Ma'am.   See ya tomorrow."

The next morning at 0700, Harwood was at base waiting near the elevator for Colonel Carter.  She had a vanilla folder in hand, her hair cut short just like she had proposed the day before, a little tussled which fit her role as air force science geek.   She pressed her lips together and reviewed the material she had gotten from Bill Lee who did most of the work on the decoding of the stuff Kylee had written down.  Now it was just a matter of getting it to the right hands.

Or, arguably, the wrong hands.  But she was fairly certain she could trust Colonel Carter with this.

At exactly 0705 as Sam had done for many a year now when she was on the base, the elevator doors opened for the woman to step out. There was something about getting out early in the morning, doing a few laps around the block before it was barely light and getting into work well before everyone else, except those of course who happened to live on the base. But even many of those stayed in bed as long as they possibly could. "You're up early." And there was nothing more irritating than to see someone chirpy and happy first thing in the morning. Sam all but skipped out of the elevator not missing a beat, she saw the folder in the younger woman's hand. "Something important I take it Kylee? I must ask though how did our girl go last night?" It was a worry, Sam couldn't deny that. She wondered how she would feel being not only away from her home world, but not even knowing if she could ever get back.

"I uh... She gave new meaning to 'eating like a horse' based on what the SF told me when I relieved him.  Other than that we're gonna need to coin a term for gate travel jetlag because she's got it.   Internal clock is off so I recommend she sleep and maybe get checked out by the MO this afternoon.   That said she handed this off to me and I got Dr. Lee on it." She said handing the Colonel the folder.  She basically brushed off the chipper morning thing, she was excited but very very focused on the information she had to relay.

"It's something else she remembered, a genetic sequence.  Look familiar?" The ATA gene sequence.   Fairly common knowledge especially considering how they had gotten the work done.  "Bill thinks it might have something to do with her abilities but without a blood workup we won't know for sure."

"Nice job on your hair by the way Kylee, very nice and it suits you." How often had Sam herself changed her 'do' over the years she had lost count and people did notice, even if they never said so; that would be Jack. Sam felt a sincere compliment went a long way in life, it helped ground you so to speak, took you down from whatever lofty place other's may have placed you in.

Sam pulled up a chair to sit down, she did that slowly as her backside was feeling a little tender from the workout she had earlier, very tender as she drew in her breath when bum met seat cushion...they could be softer. "From what I gather she needs to refuel much like you'd re-energize a battery, that must be hard for her if she runs out of gas at the wrong time. I do still need to read Cate's report. By the way have you seen her since yesterday? Cate I mean. She was supposed to be here early, I checked her room on the way and she wasn't there." Not unusual, since Cate's team was officially on leave she wasn't compelled to hang around. "Anyway our other Kylee can sleep as long as she likes for now, she's still considered a guest so there isn't a routine she has to keep is there?"

Opening the folder Sam read through it in silence, noting a few things here and there to file away for later. But Kylee and Bill were right, absolutely right. "Very interesting, very I must say. I'll give Anne MacGregor a heads up and she can look into it for us, I think she'd love to get into something like this. It isn't surgery I know but it is the kind of thing she likes to delve into, Ancient gene coding is a unique science and she has a handle on it. How long do you think we can let her snooze? Despite what I've just said."

Compliments were not always easy to take without getting a little bashful.  She pressed her lips together and tried to hide the smile but nodded.  She walked with Sam to the briefing room and took a seat across from her.  "I haven't seen her, no.  Might be monkeying around in the lab doing techy things, as you tend to do as a blond science junkie around here."   Far be it from her to be far away from a lab herself.  "If there was an AA session for science  we'd all probably be forced to attend." A smirk to that, shaking her head.

"Aah, lots of Macgreggors around here I guess.  We'll have to see about that.   I think the polite thing to do is check in at noon.   Her and SG-18 really should be given at least a day to recoop but maybe I can at least have her get looked at at some point.  As I'm aware now they had a run in with Ba'al out there.  Any chance he got wise to what she was able to do?"
She asked, folding her hands and glancing at the info about the ATA gene.

"And... oh.  Almost forgot.  What did the generals say last night?" As pertains to her, anyway.

"Possibly." Sam said quite softly as if it was almost a thought. She knew the woman was working on several different projects over the last few days. In reality though Sam was seriously thinking of ordering Cate to take some time off or she will burn out eventually. The joke wasn't lost on her either. "Well...the SGC does seem to have a penchant for those of us of the lighter shade doesn't it? And yes we would, I'm sure they'd insist on it." That came with a chuckle, something said so lightly yet typically the kind of humor Sam had been used to for some time now.

Did that seem odd? Maybe, she wasn't sure if Kylee had ever come across Anne, by all accounts she should have at least once. "Anne MacGregor, or I suppose to us mere mortals Admiral MacGregor has been with the SGC for quite a few years now, she came here as one of the first from Australia while we were recruiting for the Atlantis mission and when we went through some rigid reorganisation given the numbers of personnel we were dealing with, she became Stargate Command's Surgeon General. Most of us have experienced her unique shall I say, bedside manner from time to time. And yes she is Cate's mother, I think it was something from Anne that got Cate into the program in the first place. Or not? Its been so long now."

Taking a moment to check the laptop on the table to see if either SG-18's or Cate's mission report was there, Sam shrugged when she didn't find either. They had until late tonight in any case. "We'll let them be then. As for Ba'al, we won't know until I've seen those mission files to come to any kind of conclusion, but given what Kylee said, it is possible and something we need to consider down the road...they both said yes. Hank did some checking, you're family is in the clear but of course as you're aware they will have to sign the non disclosure agreement and I will have to speak to them myself personally."

"Probably have, but I've not been subject to much combat since Alpha site.  I'm just lucky that 'desk job' at the SGC involves breaking ground on alien tech.  Either way there hasn't been much occasion for me to get  stitches or doctored ordered bed rest so probably passed her by while in the fitness room."  Of which she was a frequenter when she was staying on base during big lab crunch time.

She paused, thoughtful as to how to best orchestrate this domestic operation.  "It's going to be a hard sell on my mom to actually get her down here.   It might take at least a week, but I'll get in contact with them this afternoon.  I mean I know there have been official house calls in the past but I'd not recommend that.  Mom's a touch neurotic regarding my service so last thing you wanna do is show up in uniform."  The corners of her mouth tug to signal that it would be a disaster, she then laughs mirthlessly at the thought.  "My dad's situation is more a staffing issue.   I'd like to give him time to actually cover the shop so he can come down here.  He's been wanting to visit anyway."

"As for our guest, I'm inclined to say that any personality evaluations or psyche files on me the military has are tentatively accurate.   I don't think she's too much different from me but I'm almost certain she didn't have a military career even if she doesn't remember it.   Something about her story seemed like stuff I would have done if I didn't do ROTC.  Beyond that I think we're gonna wanna set some hard limits on the speed thing or we'll be seeing some high speed stress baking at some point." Yes, that was a thing she did, sans speed, but as it really an issue if everyone got cake?
