<South Road>

 Even though she heard James's call to Chris, Brooke was too far forward to stop now. Almost in line with the leading truck she was on the verge of doing something extremely stupid; try to blow the freaking tires out of the canvas covered Mercedes Unimog. Her major problem was the other vehicles in between with their 'passengers'. Her eyes were watching, intently. Each heavy vehicle as she passed them Brooke scanned them as best as she could under the circumstances and until she reached the second in line they appeared to be only flat tops with tied down loads on the beds, a driver in each. She thought for a moment one of those reached for a weapon, luckily for her and him that he didn't, Brooke saw him reach instead for a ciggy. Bloody idiot, he hadn't even seen her.

 Easing forward she was almost at a point where she could simply aim her side arm at the rear wheels of that lead truck, her car finding a smooth patch along the side of the hard packed sandy road. She lifted the weapon, at that same instant her face registered shock as the canvas flipped back to reveal several heavily armed men and one with an AT-4. Brooke paled, she slammed on the brakes hard, pulled violently to the left almost rolling her car over, did a reverse turn at nearly 50 mph backing up out of range. "Guys! Stay clear of that front truck! We need a plan B, they've got some kind of shoulder mounted missile thing!" She wasn't sure how loud she was shouting over the radio, but it was loud.

Chris was keeping near to the cars, trailing just in case they needed more firepower. Not that he expected they would be needing it just yet. He had eased his car up, increasing the amount of pressure he had been applying to the accelerator, "Looks like Brooke's pushing up just in front. Going up to support." Of course, just as he had said that, the plan had changed and rapid.

The Brit's radio had exploded with Brooke's warning that the front vehicle was armed with something a little more than a rifle or a pistol, his eyes catching the flash of red of the brake lights as he applied his just narrowly avoiding collision. "We might have to go for a family reunion here, mate. Looks like they're pulling out all the stops on the lead. Anyone on the North road have a clear shot on the lead vehicle?"

Chris revved, making up for lost ground.

"Going to have to get you closer to the next vehicle instead." Chris responded bluntly over the radio.

<North Road>

There was only one word to describe this, madness. If this was their first mission as a team, what else did their mysterious leader have in store for the future? Surely things might get really easy after this? Tom was musing on life and death as his car bumped and twisted its way over the up and down, sand and rocks of this desert like terrain. Distracted for only a second, one of the bikes was on top of him before he knew it, coming at him from his right front with the pillion passenger pointing his Uzi right at him. Tom accelerated towards them, swerved hard left throwing up a cloud of dust into the faces of the riders. The impact he knew was coming sounded loud in the rear like thunder; he glanced only for mere seconds into his rear view to see a decent dent above the wheel arch and the hapless bike with rider and passenger go sprawling across the desert floor. The bike exploding seconds after that, incinerating both of them. Not a particularly nice way to go. "Gabby you do the same." He told her in between chasing down the next two. The first he caught up with quickly, pumping several shots in that direction from behind and that was exactly where one round went, straight into the man's backside. He fell quickly rolling away from the Nissan as Tom caught the bike and rider in the next few meters, bumping the rear tyre hard, sending the bike into an uncontrolled spiral the rider could not recover from. He was chasing down the third bike when his radio went off again.

"That's going to be difficult Chris, we're nearly eighty kilometers away from you. Go to plan B. Get ahead of them if you can, go off road lickety split. You've got a AT-4 in your trunk and with your speed you should be able to get up range of them, stop and hit them before they know it."

North Road

Trading fire from behind the truck, Ash ducked into cover. Raising her elbow, she smashed in a window and reached inside to open the back door of the truck. Angered at being shot at, Ash ducked in and re clocked her pistol. The truck hit a pothole that forced Ash to hold onto the roof of the moving vehicle. Looking around the small area in the back of the truck, she tapped the radio to call in her findings, "So, Gabby. Tom. I found some long boxes with some Russian markings in it." Being only somewhat Russian, she could read what it said.

Holding her pistol steady, she moved forward toward the cab. Taking her padded elbow, she smashed in another window and grabbed the driver's head. Pointing the trigger against the man's upper spine, Ash hissed with anger, "You'd better slow down or you'll be wishing you did. Don't even think about pulling that gun either, Mu-dak. Ash did spy him almost reaching for the gun, so she pressed the nozzle hard against his spine.

The male driver gulped and pulled the stick down to lower his speed. While that happened, Ash moved her free hand to tap her radio, Gabby. Tom. Truck's slowing down. Could you head it off to make sure we're not going anywhere?"

As the truck slowed down into a certain speed, the driver took his chance to move suddenly. Ash growled raising the butt of her pistol and bashed his head. The driver yelled with pain and instinctively grabbed the back of his head while keeping his other hand on the wheel. Grabbing the top of the truck, she pulled herself through the broken window into the seat next to the driver. Keeping her pistol pointed at the driver, she grabbed the back of his head and bashed him against the steering wheel.

Thrusting him against the window of the door, she grabbed the wheel and controlled the truck movement while pushing his leg against the brake to slow it down. She grumbled angrily in her native Dutch tongue at the unconscious driver, Stomme Rus

<North Road >

Chris's call echoed through the radio but before Gabby could think of an answer Tom responded.  It seemed like they were all in over their heads.   She just prayed they all made it through it alive.

Gabby swung the wheel of her car around, staying close to the moving truck.  Ash disappeared and Gabby growled under her breath.  Where had she gone? She didn't release her breath until she heard Ash's voice again.

"Think you can handle that, Tom?" She asked as she pushed down on the accelerator.   Her car revved as she pushed the car toward the front of the truck.  She pulled the hand brake in her car, swerving to park in front of the truck.  She pulled her weapon, ready to fire if the need arose.

<South Road>

"Which is why I asked for someone to get ahead and shoot the damn driver. Come on guys, get it together. I can't do a whole hell of a lot from my position, and one of you showed up to this party with a long rifle." James snarled as he swung back into the cab.

He kicked the rifle off of the gas pedal, since the engine and transmission were likely about to go if he didn't shift. The truck finally stopped screaming and he kept racing closer towards the middle truck when the GAZ Tigr came roaring back up, heavy caliber bullets thudding up the truck.

"OH COME ON!" James bounced a hand off of the steering wheel in frustration. When he looked, he saw the 4x4 wasn't stopping, and before he had to duck down before 12.7mm bullets tore through the cab, he caught the glint of something silver and big in the truck.

"Oh, you clever bastards." James muttered with a grin before swerving the truck into the Tigr. He then dove from the cab and onto the roof of the 4x4 AFV. It was pure luck more than anything that he didn't go tumbling over the side. The merc manning the heavy machine gun shouted something and started to go for his sidearm. James snapped up his MPX with his free hand and unloaded a burst into him. James quickly pulled himself up to the hatch, shoving the gunner back down, and saw the silver briefcase.

"Hi. Gonna need that, sorry." He said, pulling his Glock free and shooting the merc who was holding it in the head. He swiveled about to shoot everyone in the cab, before swinging in. He then opened the rear driver's side door, and shoved himself out with the dead owner of the briefcase, who had it handcuffed to his wrist. The landing wasn't great, but he was now on the side of the dusty road.

"Yo, gonna need a pickup." James called into his radio before picking the handcuff to free it from its former owner.

<South Road>

 Stuff happens as Brooke often quoted and big stuff happened in this business at the speed of light. She knew from back home when the Army started paying off their own Unimogs so many of them ended up in civvy hands with a lot of those being bought by either farmers, bushies or just people who wanted something bigger than your average 4x4 to go off roading in. One of her friend's father had bought one a few years ago and she recalls that while yes they could go anywhere, they were also sometimes quite unstable when met with a sudden change of direction. That gave her an idea, an insane idea because while she heard James and Chris over her radio; there was no point rushing to them while that Kasak still had the AT-4 in his grubby hands.

 Speed, she had that and she had to take the risk. The lead vehicle was doing about 40mph or so, with enough punch in the Monaro equal to a rocket sled compared to that old wreck she should be able to pull this off. Using the hand brake Brooke turned right hard, almost spinning around in the big car's own length. She was now on the rough desert floor, off the so called road. (There wasn't a lot of difference). Now facing east, the same direction as the convoy, she planted it, getting into 5th gear and holding it until her speedo was reading nearly ninety. As it reached one hundred she shifted into sixth, the yellow car shooting past the lead truck before they could do a thing about it. She was nearly a kilometer ahead of them when she reversed the process and getting back onto the road.

 The driver of the Unimog and his armed passenger saw the streak go past until it disappeared in a cloud of dust and rocks. One of those rocks shattered the passenger side front window, showing the man with glass. His hands went to his face as both eyes were filled with the broken shards. Shouting to the merc behind him in the back as a warning, that man tried to see over the top and lift his AT-4; the ride made it almost impossible and the driver refused to slow down. Then in his vision he saw madness incarnate as that Yellow thing came straight at him without slowing down; closer and closer. "Ібіліс!" He screamed when Brooke was no less than one hundred meters in front of him. Losing his nerve he pulled hard to the left, the Unimog did what that vehicle was want to do under the circumstances; it began to teeter, then with a sickening noise it tipped over, rolled twice and came to a smoking stop thirty meters off the side of the road. The cab crushed and the mercs in the rear thrown, getting splattered like putty as the five ton truck tumbled over them.

 Only one left now, the second and she guessed almost empty truck. A standard Soviet era Russian or Chinese made 8 ton flat bed with a canvas cover much like those used on army trucks all over the world. That driver wasn't going to be a dead man for anyone. Despite the protestations of his co-driver, he pulled over down the embankment to turn the heavy vehicle back west in his own cloud of dust.

 "Chicken." Brooke said under her breath as she slowed down getting in close to James. She pulled up alongside him, sweat pouring from every pore on her body. Looking left as she ducked her head down slightly she looked out the passenger window. "Yellow cab here mate." She had never been so scared in her entire life. She pressed her radio as she twisted her head about looking for their other teammate. "Chris! Check with satellite feed and see if we've attracted any unwanted attention."

One thing Tom wasn't, that was a cold blooded killer. So if someone was after you with a gun, yes he'd not hesitate shooting back at them with him most of his career wounding his adversaries rather than killing them. Back that was Cop's point of view, this was different yet it didn't mean going against his principles. That last bike rider saw that he meant business, so the fellow decided that life was far too precious for him. Being alone and virtually no one to answer to now, he stopped the bike, got off and held his hands high. Tom pulled up alongside him, his gun aimed out the window with his right hand while his left hand opened the door. "You speak English Bud?"

"Da, er yess." The man answered awkwardly. "Please, this just job for me, I hav family."

Walking to him Tom gave the man no reason to resist, he told him to get down on his knees to which he complied. "You'll see them again but my advice to you is don't take crap like this ever again, you want to support your family, find a better safer job even if it pays much less. Don't move." Walking to the bike, he was familiar with the big Suzi. A moment later he had the ignition coil in his pocket with a handful of sand poured into the tank. Getting back to his car, Tom pulled out a water canteen and a few snack bars.

"Take these and start walking, you can be back in town in six hours and Bud, don't look back." A warning and one the man took seriously.

Tapping his radio he could at last answer his team. "Gabby, Ash, Daddy's on his way kids." It took him all of two minutes to reach the girls. Tom pulled alongside the now very slowly moving truck to stop ahead of it. Jumping out he ran alongside it, which was in reality a fast walk, reached up to the door to open it, grabbed the driver's pants leg to pull him out quickly as he went over the top of him to take his place. "You've got some real grit girl." He told Ash from the side of his mouth. Grabbing the hand brake, shifting into neutral he pulled the vehicle up to a stop in a few yards, no big deal really after all.

With the two lead trucks oblivious to what had happened behind them, they continued on to the East. Tom knew there was nothing for the team to be concerned with as the way they bounced on the uneven road he was more than aware those trucks were empty, or at worst carrying more men in them. "Come on kid, let's go and see what is so important in the back eh?" Pressing his radio again he called Gabby up. "Chevy girl, it's time to count the treasure. Come see what our partner has found." He got back out of the truck to walk to the rear. Climbing up he flipped the canvas away then inside he saw the boxes, four of them. "Gabby grab a pry bar from your trunk, we're going to need it."

<North Road>

Gabby watched the truck, her finger in the trigger.  She wasn't about to get run over by a hulking monster of a truck.  Just before she had to pull the trigger though the truck slid to a stop.  She blew out a breath as Tom spoke.

"That was a close one.  On my way."

Gabby slid out of her car.  She moved to her trunk and snagged the pry bar.  Just what had they found? She jogged up to the truck.  "What do we have?" She asked, climbing up on the side.

<<South Road>>

Chris continued to listen to the radio chatter as he went about keeping an eye out on everything else going on around him. Nine years of being a commando was good enough when it came to ground work (or sea work, should they need it) and he hadn't forgotten his skills and drills but driving at high speeds wasn't something that he was all too experienced in. But, he had to change his mentality - otherwise this particular op was going to go sideways. The mention of the AT-4 in his trunk changed things. "Someone should have brought that up to my attention earlier. Now things are going to get interesting."

Imagining that he was the focus of a large manhunt wasn't exactly difficult when something very similar happened in his past. Chris pushed down on the accelerator, hoping that he would make himself a harder target to pursue when there were slower vehicles in the rear. Going at speed, his radio crackled to life and he gritted his teeth. "Checking now." His blue eyes flickered from one scene to that on the satellite feed. "Oh this day gets better and better...."

He grumbled as he clicked his radio on.

"Heads up, we've got six incoming vehicles from the Kazak border, possibly ten klicks. If there's a shot to get this particular lead vehicle out of commission before hand - I'm taking the shot with the AT-4, but it might get messy." Chris replied. His hands gripped the steering wheel as his brain tried to work out the distances and the likelihood of him actually pulling this off without him ending up on someone's windscreen that they needed to scrape off later.

Chris was making ground on the lead vehicle, having unholstered his seat belt. He wasn't expecting that he would be using his secondary, considering the speed in which was needed to jump out and grab the AT-4 from the trunk to disable the lead vehicle before potentially trying to outmaneuver the ones coming in from the Kazak border.

The lead vehicle seemed rather surprised that anyone had managed to catch up with them; perhaps their communication was less effective than theirs. Whatever it was, Chris smirked and sped past - gaining enough ground before bringing himself into a U-turn, facing that of the incoming vehicles. Chris jumped out, went to setting up the launcher and allowed himself a moment to line up the shot before taking it. He watched as the projectile flew through the air before hitting the lead vehicle, which had effectively been neutralized.

For a moment, he watched before being pulled back into the present. He had other incoming vehicles to worry about.
